The original Wade Preston Band plays Forgive Yourself for the first time in over two decades, and dare I say, I think we sound pretty good! @christopellani on drums and #JohnMeadows on bass. The #710BeachClub in #PacificBeach CA used to be called #BlindMelons and it was one of the main places I played throughout the early 90’s, solo and with the band. Crazy days, those were. I was recently reunited with an old friend I thought I had lost. The Roland SH-101 was / is an #analog #monophonic #synthesizer that you could wear like a guitar. I always loved pitch bending techniques like Jan Hammer - mimicking guitar riffs. I stole a lot from Hendrix, Page and Zappa. Armed with with a #wireless unit, I used to run out into the crowd while taking #solos, even going outside the venue sometimes to mess with the people on line or people driving by. I played this poor thing till it didn’t work anymore, probably up until about 1993. It occurred to me today, Father’s Day, that my father bought it for me, along with a little Roland keyboard amp, right after I left Chubby Checker’s band in 1983. Thanks Dad. I think I will try to get this thing working again. Throw Back Thursday was the first thing I thought of when photographer David Frasier (thank you very much!) sent me these pics from my birthday party at Elario’s atop the Summer House Inn (no longer there) in Laguna Beach, CA in #1990. I lived on the #westcoast for a long time before I came back to #NYC for #MovinOut, and this picture is #indeed evidence; my #california days were a #lifetime ago. The new #NEPA version of the #WadePrestonBand will be #debuting tomorrow, Aug 30 at 7pm (originally we said 8pm, sorry - check out FB event pages) at the new #Stonehouse in #Carbondale, PA. Bassist #JonVentre and drummer #SteveKurilla are joining me in this endeavor, spearheaded by Joe Munley with his endless research and enthusiasm. We’ll be doing some newer and some classic material from a number of different genres, along with some of the #Billy and #Elton and maniacal instrumentals I’m known for, and maybe even an #original here or there. With the vast amount of material available to us, we’re trying to get something in there for everybody. I had a very #eclectic three piece #WPB in #SouthernCA for many years, and hadn’t revisited the concept since I came east and started doing #Broadway. Thanks to Joe’s relentless enthusiasm and two very fine #musicians, we’re gonna give it a whirl. Come on down if ya can. I’m really looking forward to this. If you heard a rumor that there will be a #WadePrestonBand #reunion and a couple #solo shows on the west coast in #September ... it’s true. North Torrance, #HermosaBeach, and #PacificBeach (#SanDiego) so far. We’ll see how much I / we can cram into a couple weeks plus ...
