Let's Talk About... Blind Melon - Self Titled LP There are very few vocalists in the world that would grab attention more than Shannon Hoon did with Blind Melon. We first caught sight of him when featured on the Guns n Roses Don't Cry video. The world would ask, "Who is this flannel shirt wearing cat that gets to hang out with the band?". Not only would our curiosity lead us to Blind Melon but we would discover a band that we would admire and the poetry within. The band has the ability to write captivating and forward thinking riffs that sometimes march toward jam band territory but never go full scale melt down like other jam bands mistakenly over do. Blind Melon then allows the words to float over the entire foundation and it makes for one of the time periods most important bands. This album falls into my essential listening list but also lands on my shelf filed under masterpiece. Many will reference other albums but this one still remains my favorite from the band. Grab one in store at @collectiveclothing or on our web store at InherentRecords.com And I always thought this would be The land of milk and honey Oh but I came to find out That it's all hate and money And there's a canopy of greed holding me down.… https://open.spotify.com/album/0A6yLV44DEhpwXB7cyvLEP?si=JPhF1Q7ETw2XV9uL2Gp_8g #BlindMelonvinyl #BlindMelon #vinyl #collectiveclothing #inherentrecords #chattanooga #records #nowplaying #vinylrecords #yournewrecord #chattanoogavinyl #hiddengem #recordsofinstagram #vinylcommunity #mailorder #vinylmailorder #monumentsinruin #BobbysEssentialListening (at Collective Clothing) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjIbmPgrrUg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my late, great friend + part-time mentor Rick Anderson (The Tubes), the 1971 Bangla Desh concerts, Lionel Bart, incredible guitarist Tommy Bolin, Pam Brenneman (RIP), Geoff Britton, Rob Buck (10,000 Maniacs), the late, great Boz Burrell, Jim Carroll, William Clark, Coolio, Rick Coonce (Grass Roots), Denny Cordell, Robert Cray, Joe Elliott, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Joe Friday, André Gagnon, Jerry Garcia, Dhani Harrison, Geoffrey Holder, Henrietta Lacks, Paddy Maloney (The Chieftains), Herman Melville, Jason Momoa, MTV (1981), Yoshinao Nakada, Taapsee Pannu, Michael Penn, Edith Pretty, Mrunal Thakur, and my friend and musical colleague evinrude a.k.a. Kevin Spyker. Starting around 1997 I worked as a bassist-singer and producer on some recordings and a string of concerts with Kevin a.k.a. evinrude—the name of a famous cartoon dragonfly, which applied to Kevin’s powerhouse abilities as a singer-songwriter, multi-media artist, and DJ. He also sang on a couple of my tracks and I recall a “rooftop concert” at Lycoming College. Kevin’s song “For Angela” is a highlight from the evinrude debut album, which received good notices and drew comparisons to Beck and Blind Melon. At the board is John Bechdel (Killing Joke, Ministry), who enhanced the synth-y groove of this enchanting track. Meanwhile, HB to KS and thank you for taking flight...

Today seems to be the 90’s grunge scene, so I want to dive into the enchanting world of Blind Melon and their iconic song, "No Rain." 🎶 This track holds a special place in my heart because it represents a unique blend of heartfelt lyrics and melodic bliss that instantly uplifts my spirit.
Blind Melon was formed in 1989, hailing from Los Angeles. The band's name came from a nickname given to lead singer Shannon Hoon, who was known for his dreamy and introspective personality. The name perfectly encapsulates their whimsical and introspective approach to music.
Their style can be described as alternative rock with influences from folk and psychedelic rock. Blind Melon had a way of weaving together captivating melodies and poetic storytelling that resonated deeply with listeners. Their debut self-titled album, released in 1992, became an instant hit and showcased their immense talent.
"No Rain," the standout track from their debut album, became their most recognizable song. Its catchy guitar riff and Shannon Hoon's soulful vocals created an unforgettable anthem. The song's introspective lyrics about searching for acceptance and understanding struck a chord with millions of fans around the world.
Did you know that the music video for "No Rain" featured the iconic "Bee Girl"? The video portrayed a young girl dressed as a bee, struggling to fit in and find her place in the world. It perfectly captured the essence of the song and added an extra layer of charm to Blind Melon's music.
Tragically, Shannon Hoon's life was cut short due to a drug overdose in 1995. His untimely death was a great loss to the music world, but his legacy and the impact of Blind Melon's music continue to live on.
Let's celebrate Blind Melon and the everlasting magic of "No Rain"! Share your favorite lyrics from the song or any memories you have associated with it in the comments below. 🐝

The original Wade Preston Band plays Forgive Yourself for the first time in over two decades, and dare I say, I think we sound pretty good! @christopellani on drums and #JohnMeadows on bass. The #710BeachClub in #PacificBeach CA used to be called #BlindMelons and it was one of the main places I played throughout the early 90’s, solo and with the band. Crazy days, those were. Playing there again solo today at 4pm and no doubt there will be more videos. #WadePrestonBand #WadePreston #piano #maniacalboogie #soundslikewade #solo #soloconcerts #raininthewoods #originalmusic #newcd #compilation #guestbook #casiopx560 #debsaysishouldbuyanrv (at 710 Beach Club) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoUfSpzAOLR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=191kc4oncrt2g

No Rain (1993)
Artista: Blind Melon (Estados Unidos)
Álbum: Blind Melon
Año: 1992
Género: Rock alternativo, Neo Psicodelia
Compositores: Blind Melon
Sello: Capitol Records
Dirección del vídeo: Samuel Bayer
Letra
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watching the puddles gather rain
And all I can do
Is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view
But it's not sane
It's not sane
I just want someone to say to me
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll always be there when you wake, yeah, yeah
You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today, hey
So stay with me and I'll have it made (I'll have it made)
And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape
Escape
Escape
Escape
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
You don't like my point of view and I'm insane
It's not sane
It's not sane
I just want someone to say to me
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll always be there when you wake, yeah, yeah
You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today, hey
So stay with me and I'll have it made
I'll have it made (I'll have it made)
And I'll have it made (I'll have it made)
Oh no, no
You know we're really gonna
Really gonna have it made
You know we'll have it made

Blind Melon - Soup @blindmelonband #blindmelon #shannonhoon #90s #90smusic #90srock I had a conversation with a friend about Blind Melon yesterday and he told me that they were his favorite band of all time. It felt odd that we'd never discussed it before, but after he showed me paintings of Shannon and autographed merch from the band and even a little corner of his music room dedicated to keepsakes and collectibles, I was convinced. I have an interesting background with loving this band too. My mom loved Janis Joplin her whole life until she died by suicide at the very end of my teens. I remember her listening to Pearl when everyone but she and I were in the house and I remember loving how gritty and soulful her voice sounded. One day I heard No Rain on MTV during a super hot summer spent mostly on the couch under an A/C vent and I thought about how similar their voices sounded to me. I didn't much like No Rain and that got worse as it became one of the most overplayed songs of all time, but a local pizza joint had the Tones of Home 7" on their jukebox and I was HOOKED. I mowed a couple of laws and bought the cassette and spent a lot of the summer swapping out my bootleg cassette of Nevermind with the Blind Melon s/t album. I fell in love with Dear ol' Dad next and realized this band was nothing like the dreampop revival nonsense MTV and Capitol were billing them as re: No Rain. They were roots-centric gritty rock music that had some folk and even psych influences, sure, but not so much to say they could be pigeonholed by either. It's cliché to say a band is a genre of their own, but I have never been able to think of another band that sounds like a Blind Melon clone nor can I pick out any single influence that could make them seem anything but original. Soup was my favorite release from the band and like so many amazing musicians from this stretch in time, we lost Shannon Hoon to the vices of a troubled soul thrust deep into a spotlight of pressure and criticism. I sometimes wonder if Janis's soul lived inside Shannon for a time and maybe he channeled and merged his own energy with hers to create some of the most cherished music I've ever heard. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEzX-kUHEEH/?igshid=qrl47tqo9wrh
