How Do You Write a Long/In Depth Fic Comment?

First of all, let me say-- there's no 'wrong' way to write a fic comment (unless you are being rude or offering unsolicited concrit). Short comments are good, emojis are good-- all of it's good! Don't take me making this explainer to mean you have to write long, analytical comments. Express yourself however you want! Authors love hearing about how much you liked their work no matter how you choose to tell them.

This is meant to be a guide for people who want to do this, but don't really know how, because they find it difficult to express themselves, or don't know what authors like to hear. If that's you, let's continue below the cut!

Why should you do this?

because it's fun!

because you really like someone's work!

because it's motivating for an author, and can sometimes inspire them to post more, or re-post old stuff!

because it's usually a great conversation starter! Some of my best fandom friends have been made in comment threads on AO3!

What do authors want to hear about in long comments?

Many things, but primarily:

What you liked about their work

Why you liked it

You can show them what you liked by quoting their work back at them (I find it useful to put quoted text in an indented section; the html code for this is <blockquote>text</blockquote>), talking generally about which events or characters you enjoyed most, or, if you have thoughts about it, what you liked about the structural parts of their work-- i.e. plot, pacing, sentence structure, etc.

As for telling them why you liked something, getting into emotional reactions is great for this-- you can tell them where you laughed, or cried, or where you felt moved by something they said. If you found the way they had the characters talk or think realistic or relatable, tell them that! If you want to, authors love hearing that people noticed them foreshadowing events, or planting clues within the text.

You can also tell them where you were when you read it, or your overall experience -- did you read at 3 am? Do you have school or work tomorrow, but you just had to finish reading? Did you read their fic in the club? Tell them! And if you're feeling especially brave or you want to share, feel free to tell authors how or why you related to the text. If it makes you uncomfortable, don't worry about it, but those are some of my favorite comments to reread.

How do I comment on specific parts/lines of a fic?

Okay, a demonstration! I am going to pretend to analyze my own work here, for convenience:

He dreams of it, ceaselessly. It seems to echo throughout his days; he cannot let his mind drift too far, lest he fall back into it. He has to cling to this world, like a drowning man to a raft, though it rarely feels worth the effort.

Okay, so let's pretend I read this section and I really liked it. If you want to talk about that, stop and consider what about it was special, for you. Maybe I thought that the third sentence really captured what it felt like to be depressed, or the second reminded me of something that happened in my own life. I might say:

"I really loved this part! I found the way you wrote about [the character's] feelings in this paragraph so relatable; I think you captured exactly what it feels like to feel consistently hopeless."

You can also take a look at the way the author has written the sentences-- try reading them out loud. If I think the last line has a nice sound, I might say something like:

"I liked how you chose to structure the last sentence! The grammar you used gave it a really nice combination of phrases and stops. I loved how it sounded, and the rhythm the punctuation created."

Another thing you could talk about was how the sentence or paragraph made you feel about the character. If that section made me feel particularly sorry for them, or if this was the point in the story where I connected strongly with them, I might say:

I think this part worked really well to demonstrate how [character] felt! You communicated the pain they were in really effectively, and I was very connected to them, during this part.

You can also just express your excitement! I love great writing, and sometimes I just keysmash, or put a million exclamation points, or say AHHHHHHH!!!

Keyframes Spring 01: CG Guide

For spring of the first year there is 8 CGs, with 2 CGs having variations which total up to bout 11 CGs that you can collect for this season (v1.11). All the CGs will be below the cut!

We'll go from up to down, left to right

1. Deja and Cam celebrating

When you're going against one of the boys during the scavenger hunt, you'll be prompted with 3 rounds Quick Time Events (QTE), the first two rounds honestly don't matter and is just fun dialogue of who is currently in the lead. The real deciding factor is the last round where you must succeed at least 3 keys

2. Percy, Elio, and Jamie celebrating

As long as you score less than 3 on round 3 of the QTE when you're up against the boys, whomever you're up against will get ya and they'll win

3. Percy and Elio studying

During the Studying Session event (you can check my other guide on how to get a specific event), choose "I'll actually tag along." when Elio asks if you want anything

The variations come from what you choose to do when yall detour, the options being the polo club, horticulture club and the coop, with each option getting you a variation of the CG -> - Why were there horses on the Green? - Those plants… were they having a sale? - The coop sounded… intriguing, to say the least.

4. Burger !

During the Late Night event, you'll automatically get this CG and it's unmissable!

5. Percy, Elio, and Jamie goofing in the rain

During the Rainy Day event, which you have to play as the first event, you're gonna have to reject Percy's invitation to go good off in the rain and not invite them up for soup </3. The reason why it has to be the first event chosen is because if its any subsequent event, Cam or even you are closer to the boys so you'll automatically invite them up for soup. It's okay, at least you get to have quality bestie time with Cam and Deja if you don't invite them up -> - Going out into the rain? No thanks. -- Whatever they were up to down there, you’d leave them to it.

6. Cam, Deja and Jamie studying

During the Studying Session event, choose "Can I text you if I think of anything?" when Elio asks if you want anything

The variations come from what you choose to do what yall choose to do in town either going to get ice cream or see Nena -> - Ice cream sounds really good right now… - Let’s go see if Nena’s at the thrift store?

During the Errands event, its another unmissable CG!

8. Cam posing like a cutie!

During the Spring Festival event, you have to choose to split up when prompted what the group should do, from there choose to hang out with whomever you want to but after choose to take a break with Cam - There was no harm in splitting up. You’d catch up with whoever you found along the way. -- (just choose any you wanna do!) --- You needed a break— to the benches with you.

BEFORE WE START! No matter which route you take you will always get this CG so I'll be skipping this one in the guide

ROUTE 1 - CROWE AND OTHERS

In this one you can either choose "Stay with the group" and ignore Sol and Hyugo

Or choose "Call Sol over" but later choose "Stay with the group"

Now you can talk one by one with all of your friends and you will get CGs with

But for Geo make sure to select "I have questions..." to get all of the CGs of him

And that's how you will get CGs of your friend group!!

(I will not post all of the friends here because theres a lot of illustrations with them)

After talking with Geo, Deryl, Brittney and Jess you can now choose to "Look for Crowe"

No matter what you choose you will get the CG of Crowe

After all of that you will meet Hyugo and Sol offering you to ditch classes with them, you can now choose "I can't skip class"

Sol will offer to walk you to your class and no matter what you choose you will not get the CG of him

You are now at the library with Crowe and now, again, no matter what you choose you will get a CG of Crowe writing something.

And that's it for the Crowe route!

ROUTE 2 - JELOUS SOL

So you have that choice again but instead of hanging out with your group after choosing "Call Sol over" you want to "Join Sol and Hyugo"

During the lunch break with them you will get Hyugo CG no matter the choices you make

The choices you will make on the rooftop, again, won't really matter to get the final illustration, so now Hyugo and Sol will ask you if you wanna ditch classes with them, and you, unfortunately, will have to say "I couldn't afford to skip this one..."

Now to get the CG that I saw a lot of people have missing you would just have to choose "Take his hand"

And that's how you get the last CG for this route!

Bonus scene:

If you choose C, they'll give you a 10 heart discount making each choice only 15 hearts. I'm temporarily broke, though.

If you choose B:

If you choose to distract them, you'll need 4 hearts to get exclusive art and a scene with one of them. But if you choose any of the slasher, you'll still be 1 point away from the bonus scene.

I have a great suspicion that this bonus scene is not even real because I replayed many times and paid for all choices but never got enough bloodlust. Also, tf do they mean I can get 8 points with each character in this episode?? Leather, for example, you only have 3 choices with him. I believe it's just a strategy to get people to go back and pay for the choices.

Courtin’ Cowboys: Achievements and CG Guide

So I’ve been going at it for some time now and decided that I better make something out of all the time I’ve put into 100%-ing this game as hard as I could. I tried to include all the possible ways to get each achievement, but I’m sure I didn’t test out all of them. It’s more of a self-note for if I want to replay it in the future, but maybe it’ll help someone else too! (I call <3 achievements endings because I'm cringe, don’t mind me)

I’m at a loss here. I tried multiple stuff like catching every type of fish, making every recipe, collecting every type of berry, eating every ingredient, eating every dish, etc., but I still don’t know how to get any of these but one. :(

Gameplay Achievements

Again, I tried a lot of things: getting all the stats to at least 100, resetting the game a bunch of times via the symbol, getting as many NPCs killed as possible in one go, reporting a bunch of crimes to Jed, getting every character to hate me, leaving town with every character,  etc. So I ran out of ideas for what this last one is.

Accident Prone - While chasing Will through the river let the timer run out Down with Bastard - Get automatically during Bastard vs Jak or Bastard vs Will event ??? - ??? Go Getter! - Meet all 8 characters in one playthrough (although when I tried to replicate it I only got the achievement after I was attacked by the Bastard a second time) Lady Killer - Make Magnolia and Jade dislike you (by asking Magnolia if she enjoys her job and getting Jade’s Ending 2)

Extra CGs (Boot)

You’ll probably get these by exploring the game for yourself, but you might miss them if you’re just following this guide to a T, so I’ll just list them for completion sake.

Been working on a 100% completion of Pokemon Sun this year, and while I'm mopping up every single item in the game, I noticed that all the type plates are located somewhere on the southern part of Melemele island, so I put together a little chart just to show where the locations of them all are!

Every plate, except the ones that can be found at the Antiquities Of The Ages in the mall are hidden items, meaning you'll need to use Stoutland to find them. The plates, regardless of location or acquisition method are also completely unobtainable until after beating Nanu's grand trial, where Team Skull will messily intercept the AOTA shopkeeper's delivery of them outside of the mall (This happens off-screen but is confirmed by the shopkeeper who sells the eight recovered plates after you buy one from him.)
