I really want to get the fucking spooky tv movie, I really do. but it just kinda makes me want to jump off a bridge? like, it felt very "It's too late. Give up. You get one shot and if you blow it you'll never be happy."
I guess it's super cathartic for... trans women who have already transitioned and therefore don't have to think about having a Time Limit on Joy. But I just saw it and was like, "Ohhhh, so we kill ourselves and THEN we get to be happy? I didn't need a movie to say this to me."
it's frustrating bc it IS like. a technically impressive film and I'm happy people enjoyed it, but here I am a couple minutes after the end credits and I'm like... "I don't think I can go to sleep now."
I SAW THE TV GLOW SPOILERS ‼️‼️‼️‼️
Oh I got the completely opposite impression of the ending. The ending seemed like a call to action to me; an example of what keeping yourself in the closet can do to you - so that's why you have to, even if you think it's too late. There's a shot right before the ending scene that basically has the words "it's not too late" written out verbatim on the floor. The scene to me reads like it's telling Owen that things have gotten worse because you didn't take that leap, but there's still that light inside you and now you're faced with the overwhelming evidence that you need to do it to be happy. It's not just one chance and you miss it; circumstances change the further you go, but it's not too late, you HAVE that second chance. The movie stops where it does to hit you in the face with the idea that you'll never be happy hiding from your true self. Whether or not Owen goes through with it, there is still the possibility she can. But she has to be the one to do it.
The "killing yourself" part is also not as literal as I think some take it to be. I read it as something that is presented as so scary it's equivalent to killing yourself, not the literal act. Being buried alive is probably one of the scariest things that can happen to you, and the movie uses that as a metaphor for how terrifying it can be to look inward and realize your true self; something so frightening that the alternative of living a joyless life seems preferable to some. But the point is that you need to do something, even if it is that scary, because decaying as someone that isn't you is even worse.
It's a grim movie, but it's far from hopeless. It just stares at the worst possibility and says "what do you want to do with that? Because you can do something with that."

also on, "why do you think this means the reboot will be bad?" Cosmic Fury didn't give me much hope. A different team is working on this one so I'll stay open to be pleasantly surprised, but I'm expecting disappointment.
I'm going to be frank here - we need to leave Cosmic Fury out of discussions of quality for future PR projects because it is not a fair comparison to make by nature of its circumstances. Hasbro did not want to make Cosmic Fury; they outright turned down Netflix's offer to give it more episodes. Cosmic Fury was thrown together solely to give fans an official ending to the 90s continuity rather than just cancelling the show on Dino Fury's cliffhanger, and that's it. If anything, it could have been much WORSE for how little Hasbro cared about it beyond it being an obligation while they worked on their ACTUAL passion project, which is this reboot. It is a weird anomaly that's only the first thing on peoples' minds because it's the final season of the show as we knew it.
And besides, like you said, this is a completely new crew, so that leaves Cosmic Fury's quality even more irrelevant to the discussion here. If they hire Becca and Alwyn on the writing team, THEN we can worry, but for now, there's literally no cause for concern - unless you don't like the Percy Jackson series (which.....I liked a lot, so...........lol)

https://www.tumblr.com/starredforlife/757324980163887104/hello-for-those-planning-on-voting-for-kamala
Hey thanks for this post. People loooove to act like you cant do TWO things on this site. You can: Plan on voting to aid the situation at home while also LYING to the democratic party that you DONT plan on voting to improve the situation abroad.
absolutely. democrats are right now more motivated than ever to win as many votes as possible. they need you to back them. i've heard rumors that due to the frenetic energy and support (in donations and volunteering) behind kamala harris, that they assumed the hitch/dissent from voters on the issue of palestine was inconsequential and behind them. we need to absolutely light a fire under their collective ass and let them know it wasn't just biden's age--it was his violent, Zionist, conflict-escalating policies and unequivocal support for a recently declared apartheid state that drove us away and to other candidates. so please, please, lie to these people, and lie well. tell them you'll vote for trump, who campaigns on a "0 wars track record". tell them you're not a single-issue voter and that this is a policy that also affects how you feel about their domestic policies (why send money overseas for war when you could spend our tax dollars on us citizens?). tell them you don't want to send our troops to war. appeal to their sensibilities. they are obviously ghouls who haven't given a shit about the thousands and thousands of dead Palestinians. and so i say this with the most macabre and disgusted and bitter tone, but they do care about your vote, instead. use that. TELL THEM YOU WILL WITHHOLD YOUR VOTE. it is absolutely the least you can do for the Palestinians suffering because of us.
anyways, also please get involved in your local organizations to protest!! if you are in chicago, where the democratic convention is going to be held, there will be protests there, i'm sure--and there will be an "Uncommitted" campaign making their voice heard. You can find out more about them here!!

Bad news, Rob. He clarified and what he meant was “take all the cool parts out”
i mean... i get it? not sure what he specifically means by "sped-up action sequences", i don't think PR's action is the thing that's holding it back and could easily be transported over to whatever reboot they wanted to do, but the other things ARE generally seen as corny in a bad way by general audiences. im certainly not happy about that but like. it's just the truth
again, japan was introduced to tokusatsu and suitmation techniques through genre-defining works like godzilla and ultraman, made by people who took the material seriously. america was introduced to it through often goofy (or just straight up racist) kaiju dubs from people who didn't get it and power rangers, which im guessing the original crew thought would be some dumb forgotten flavor of the week before it became a worldwide phenomenon. power rangers evolved as it went on and produced some great, iconic (certainly iconic to ME 😤) seasons of kid's television, but that's not what people remember. people remember the kiai noises tommy would make when he did karate, the cheesy acting, and bulk and skull falling face-first into a giant cake at the end of every episode. and to them that's all it'll ever be, unless something new comes along to pique their interest
i know people say "well, power rangers has succeeded for 30 years under this formula!" but... when was the last time it was actually relevant? i think it got a brief blip from the original cast returning for that 30th anniversary special, but before that? nickelodeon pushed samurai hard when they first acquired it but ever since then it's felt dead in the water. from anecdotes i've heard it seems like a lot of kids think power rangers is lame and something their dad used to watch, its days as must-watch kid's tv have been over for a good long while now. it's survived not by continuing to be a hit but just through sheer momentum. hasbro could work something out with toei and make Power Rangers Beast Cubers or Crystal Guardians and it could be the most incredible season we've ever had, surpassing all the greats, but i still don't think that'd be enough to get anyone who's not a longtime fan to care
power rangers has had an unbelievable run, by any metric it should not have lasted this long. but it's not possible for anything that goes on 30+ years to continue without change. super sentai's not like it was in 1975, kamen rider's not like it was in 1971, ultraman's not like it was in 1966, and power rangers can't be like it was in 1993. whether they go for another movie franchise, a teen netflix reboot, or an animated series, it's clear that the direct adaptation process is over. if it turns out to be good, we're in luck! if it sucks, well, we've got 30 years of Classic™ power rangers and TONS of tokusatsu to go back to. there's worse ways for a show to go out

Whoopsie XD
Good thing I did tag it then and that I've been keeping things mostly out of context
Gonna use this as a reminder for other people to also blacklist spoiler tags until they're caught up with the MSQ or related things

Would you rather fight the Daily Chicken or the Annual Chimpanzee?
Additional Details: The Chicken can appear at any time a day and will appear once every day.
When The Chicken is defeated, its corpse despawns. You do not get the meat.
The Chimpanzee can appear at any time during a year but only once that year.
When you fight The Chimpanzee, you get a sword.
Hard Mode: The Annual Chimp gets a sword.
I don't think I could handle the emotional toil of fighting a chicken every day.
Meanwhile, Chimps when in the mood to kill are no longer creatures of god but creatures of man, and it's no longer a sin to slay them in self defence.
Also even in hard mode chimp's first move will be throwing the sword, so as long as I dodge I'm good. Congratulations, you played yourself.

Do you think I should turn MY gay furry story into a gay furry rpg maker game? Should there be more of these?
There are never enough gay furry RPG Maker games
But also I do think that RPG Maker games (or Ren'py visual novels) are a good way to get a story out there with visual and interactive components, but with way less of a workload than, like, a full webcomic or an independent animated series or something. It would've taken me a million years to make SLARPG as a webcomic. In an RPG Maker game I can just throw in more dialogue scenes wherever I want using the same old character portraits as always, instead of having to draw 20 new pictures of the party every time I want to do a jokey conversation

Shuichi Kitaoka
*gets sent kitaoka in 0.5 seconds*
very easy to chart on ethical axis...
affection... not so easy. i swing wildly between Derogatory (Affectionate) and Affectionate (Derogatory) but he's shifted over PRETTY FAR towards the left bc today is a particularly Kitaoka Affectionate day for me (unfortunately)
#blorbo babygirl chart#washipink#i like kitaoka soooooooooooooooo much. i have to be mean sometimes tho.

PR likes to act like there's real tropes associated with Ranger Colors, but they didn't put in the work to make that happen. Like, I can think of maybe 5 rangers in each color that play into the alleged ranger color tropes they keep using in things like the TTRPG book.
They really just don't want to admit that when they say "Red mean [x], Blue means [x], etc" they're trying to retroactively shove the post-MMPR seasons into MMPR's template like it was always planned that way rather than the fact that only seasons SPECIFICALLY made to callback to MMPR wrote their characters that way and others were a lot more fast and loose with it. That's why you have AI Grace like "Blue Rangers are problem solvers! Except the ones that kind of aren't" - they're trying to make this a thing despite the show itself never making it a thing until very recently outside of "Red is leader" (and even then that was disproved as early as MMPR s2 with Red Ranger Rocky)
And then this leads to the other colors getting left out, as we can see in cases like Ranger Academy, because again, MMPR's color scheme was never the foundation of the franchise and is actually only present in MMPR s1 and Megaforce. So it's like "the users of these six colors are all connected and share inherent traits!!! And if they don't, we'll just say they do deep down!!!! but idk about the other colors, they're just whatever i guess"

Its really funny that you keep getting recommended Tom Scott’s goodbye video.
Essentially, he’s been making these little educational videos on Interesting Things In The World every monday for 10 years. Things like this:

Early in 2023, he said that this would be his last year working on this channel for the foreseeable future. So he ended it off with this nice, heartfelt thank you and something he’s wanted to do for a long time: Flying Under A Helicopter
you may also recognize him from videos such as this: https://youtu.be/g_EnsU88o6M?si=RVnFxWzq3G3juXW3
loll yes I do recognize him from that video. it is funny that the only time youtube has recommended him to me is his goodbye video like ... goodbye ? egjdvjd
