Water Made Us, Jamila Woods (2023)

The primary theme of Water Made Us is the end of romantic relationships, and while it is as much about our emotions in the face of them and eventual reflections, it is also about how those we love (in a non-romantic fashion) provide solace and support; as such, it has clichés – after all, don’t all our friends resort to cliché sometimes? –  but in all ends up cementing the human beauty of support, appreciation. In that, Jamila Woods has produced something really quite wonderful.

Featuring duendita, the singer’s exuberant new clip has her celebrating the little things we do for those we love, splitting between mundane domesticity and the serene beauty of nature as Woods expresses her romantic joy through the art of dance.

‘Tiny Garden is a song about the way my heart works, the slow and steady way I love. In my directorial debut I wanted to create a visual representation of how I often feel in relationships, like I’m having huge feelings that I end up expressing in small specific ways.’
