i've got this hc that, in a canon timeline but they get together au, shawn & gus either a) make the biggest deal out of their relationship and make everyone know they're now a couple and in 6 months they're engaged bc they know sooner or later they're gonna marry so why wait, yknow? or b) they act completely the same and nobody really knows they're now together until idk shawn mentions packing and jules like "oh i didn't know you were moving, shawn!" and he's like "it's more like i'm taking all my things with me to gus's this time" and then she's like "wait what" and everyone discovers they're together bc they completely forgot they ever were not a thing and didn't really tell anyone about it (even when they're like week 1 of dating if someone asked they would be like "yeah we've been together since always") (same thing for marriage someone asks them if they're married and they're like "yeah we ar- WAIT" bc what do you mean we aren't married? we ARE marriage)

shawn and gus are 1000x more insufferable & giddy & clingy & Married (tm) but they completely forget to actually say to people specifically that “we’re boyfriends now” because, like, haven’t they always been?

shawn sits on gus’s lap during meetings at the station, gus rests his head on shawns shoulder & thumbs the strip of skin between the hem of his t-shirt & jeans. they get looks from the chief & lassie & jules but none of them say anything bc, really, what can they expect from them in regards to professionalism, this actually seems pretty normal.

shawn barges in on gus at central coast like he always does, but he brings like 3 bouquets of flowers and distracts gus with kisses. gus’s coworkers can see everything but, i mean, this is also the guy who walked through the whole building in a civil war army uniform so they’re not that shook.

shawn announces to everyone that he and gus are moving in together and everyone’s just like “ok cool why do we care?” because neither of them mention that it’s together together (they figure it’s implied) and so everyone’s just like, yeah, seems about right, you guys spend 24/7 together anyways.

juliet only figures out they’re dating when she asks shawn to dinner on saturday because her girlfriend has a friend she thinks would be cute with shawn, and so she wants them all to go on a double date. shawn, of course, is shook.

“i, uh, i’m not single”

“what do you mean?”

“gus and i are dating”

“wait, really!?”

“??? jules you saw us making out at the christmas party last week”

“well, yeah, but i just thought that was normal for you two”

lassie doesn’t figure it out until he’s hanging out with jules and she going on about wedding cakes and colour schemes and he’s like “whose wedding are we taking about?” and she mentions shawn and gus, and he’s like “wait since when?” and she shrugs and says “beats me”

the chief only knows because she overhears lassie and jules talking and then she sees shawn and gus pass out little pink “save the date” cards and she puts two and two together. the rest of the station doesn’t know until they get their own cards. (buzz, poor, sweet guy, doesn’t realise until shawn and gus are actually at the altar reciting their vows and he turns to jules and is like “wait is this a wedding?” and she just looks at him).

the only person who can tell right away that shawn and gus are finally dating, is henry. it’s a normal day, shawn and gus aren’t any more obnoxious than usual, but there’s a certain bright, relaxed, and happy feel to the air. henrys spent the last 30 years watching these two pine over each other, and so the moment when he can feel that tension, heartache, and guilt leave the air, he knows exactly what happened. it was only a day after shawn and gus finally got together, when henry sees the two of them, and it’s the happiest he’s ever seen his son, and so, of course, he knows.

anyways, you’re 100% correct. shawn and gus are That couple, but also everyone thinks it’s normal for them.

OSRR: 1955

today was a day of decorating.

every year, i want nothing to do with decorating for christmas. i always get to it when i want to, which is usually when i'm in the christmas spirit, and that isn't usually until like the week of christmas. but this year, it was today. i woke up and my mom was baking muffins and cookies and i was excited for some reason, so after going to shaw's to get a few things we needed (crisco shortening, mini snickers, and pie for later, to be exact), i came back with my hurting ankle and decorated the banister and the dining room. doing the banister is always my job, and decorating most of the house is also usually my job because i have the best creative eye in the house. and i'm the best at making bows, if i say so myself. (which i do, because i am.) and anyway, it looks awesome. everything has lights and i love it. we're waiting on some battery-operated LED light strings and some gold garland for the tops of the window treatments and hutch, but once we have those it's all over for you hoes. (i've always wanted to say that bc i think it's fuckin hilarious.) and anyway, the house is more festive now.

i wound up going over to chelsea's with cookies, snickers, pie, and cheesy potatoes in tow, i tending fully to work on homework and stuff and get a bunch done. what i didn't anticipate was the anxiety that watching hell's kitchen caused me. SO MUCH ANXIETY. if i were there i would always be crying. i can't handle that stress.

at the end of it, i wound up not getting much work done, unfortunately. i rescheduled my tasks and determined joel and i are gonna have to move date night to wednesday this week so i can use tuesday to get the rest of my physics done and prepare for both of my finals the next day. and then wednesday i can chill, because i have thursday for doing linear algebra, and i can use my notes on that one, and i'll be fine. i'm glad i'm not worried about that one.

and yknow, for all the complaining i've done and all the misery i've gone through this semester, i've actually done really well, even despite my brain shutting down for like two months and getting sick in there at some point. yeah. i'm kinda proud of myself. given i recalculated the grades i could get, and there's no way i can wind up with more than an 88 in calculus, the other two will be good and i'm grateful. that's a decent GPA. i'm kinda proud of myself. joel helped me a lot this semester, between encouraging me to do my work when i didn't want to and spending time with me to wind down to talking me down from the ledge of anxiety about being alive and being in school to just holding my hand when the day was tough. i don't know how i've ever handled school being single. i couldn't have done this without joel, or lisa or john, or my parents or my sister or tanya or joth and renae and hannah and demi and honestly, i owe my success to so many people for the support and encouragement they've given me over the last few months. also shout-out to God bc there ain't no WAY i coulda remembered some of the shit i have in the past, so thanks.

and thank you, my friends here, for sending me encouragement when i needed it and for listening and checking up on me when i felt down and crummy. despite the friends i've lost in the last year, i've also made some incredible friends who have made all that pain and sacrifice worth it. thank you for loving me. thank you for supporting me. i'm gonna need more in the future, but i wanted to thank you for all you've already done to help me succeed.

this is just more silent night talk bc i have a lot of thoughts abt it and donovan and his character in escape from furnace now

so obvs spoilers and this is just a lot of fucking words dont say i didnt warn u

starters: it’s endlessly amusing to me that in this christmas story there really is a dude that is straight up called santa 

and that in this story santa is a bone knife wielding gang leader who stabs donovan three times and then dies at the end

on that particular fight scene: i was honestly gasping in shock on how it went down and when donovan got stabbed in the stomach and the particular details of him using bleach to disinfect the wounds??

which, oddly enough, i was wondering about how illness and infection was treated early and well asked and answered now

this story answered so many questions i had in general abt the culture in furnace and the history of the gangs and the prison and how fuckin kevin came to be leader

bc real shit that reveal at the end finding out kevin killed ambrose in his sleep really was another irl gasp to me bc like. ambrose’s whole deal was interesting given that perception i had was like kev was The Boss this entire time, but it feels so obvious and yet so perfect to discover kevin was a backstabbing son of a bitch

also real shit: ambrose pope. hell of a name, hell of a dude. obvs my focus has been more on adam and batek, but ambrose is the close third of the new characters he’s introduced in this short story. and part of  it is bc his dialogue kind of sounds like david barley, but like, if david barley was a shredded gangster, yknow?

batek has somewhat more of a minor role, but i love that he’s that Guy who knows how to be dick and push it exactly to the right point

and im conviced he can read donovan and adams faces exactly to the point of “we’re one more joke into actually making them go off” and if he met alex and zee this would be Important Knowledge to Part

adam tho: completely blew me out of the water

given that everything in the main story is through alex’s persepctive, literally up to this point, everthing about donovan’s life and experiences are mostly speculation

and ive kinda interpreted adam as being a similar position of what donovan was to alex, but that the blood watch incident happened, much, much longer ago by the time alex came to prison, characterising donovan to be someone, who still very much heartbreakingly, developed his thick skin and his strong boundaries over a long time of being by himself

but it really isn’t like that all. it really was just two months between the events of silent night and the start of lockdown 

and it’s so fucking clear how much love the two of them had for each other, being the originals, only ever having each other as cellmates this entire time. the fact that donovan sees adam as the more well respected one in furnace, literally the statemtent of how adam makes his world seem smaller, safer is A Lot to consider when alex is suddenly the one to fill that space

ugh the fucking “don’t bring your heart down with you” vs “keep your heart with you no matter what” lines fucking wreck me

other lines that wrecked me are:

“she’d flown, she’d flown for good.”

“i was aiming high, i was aiming for her”

donovan absolutely continues to love and adore his mother and that’s where the running gag of him wanting to break out just to eat a burger comes from?? fuck!!

their christmas traditions are so fucking endearing, i love that she hates turkey bc the bird is fuck ugly and refuses to eat one. love that her childhood momento is a mother-son bonding moment, and her personality and sense of humour is so clear to see and parse from the way donovan talks about her. i just love this lady a lot and i want to see so much more of them interacting and living together in other contexts

(altho here’s my salt: super fuckin shitty to not have given her an actual name in this story, and one to the abusive creep. and the fact that like, it fell into the Absent Black Father trope by having donovan saying he never really knew/met his dad. which, i know a lot of the big parental relationships are between mother/child, but there could’ve been smth more substantial than a write off)
