it is funny though how kids' shows are so so so careful about death, no one's ever killed except MAYYYYBE the big bad, all those random side characters are fine, here have a quick shot of them before we leave just so you know they really did survive that 50-foot drop into a stormy sea,
and meanwhile kids' books nearly all agree that it's not an adventure until it has a body count.
#to be clear I don't mean the heroes killing people#that's frankly a separate question#but bad guys come with collateral damage#even if they're nameless extras who are never described as more than a body in the street#and quite often the friends the hero meets along the way#will not all make it to the end#edit: actually I do also mean the heroes killing people#atla being so so so careful to show random mooks surviving and having the fire nation take prisoners all the time#vs animorphs going 'yeah we kill people. yeah we've got ptsd. what of it'#vs that one vivian vande velde book I read where the protagonist is really really stressed#about creeping up on a mook with a rock to bash him on the head#bc *what if she kills him?* she's just a teenager she doesn't know how brain trauma works she doesn't want to be a killer#to be clear animorphs and this book are on the same page

#chris doodles#it's been so long since i've been able to dm a campaign and i'm having so much fun#we're only on session 2 but everyone's having a great time#so the doodle guys in order:#we've got azalea--a tiefling mage with 3 giant anglerbeast pets#(anglerbeasts are a custom creature i made taking displacerbeasts and adding a cool anglerfish bobble to the end of one of their tentacles)#(and if a player fails a saving throw they can get hypnotized by the bobble and will attack their fellow players for one turn)#next is adira--half-orc lady in charge of the beast's den#which is a monster/creature bounty sector of the silverhands mercenaries#a group of sellswords that run the majority of the security of the port town the party is in.#next is nakris--the dragonborn who hired the party!#an ancient artifact of his people#the amulet of the ironscale#was “accquired” (stolen) by a museum curator#he's been trying to do all the legal ways to get this ancient item back#but it hasnt worked so he's resorting to Crime and hiring the party to steal it back#which means i get to plan a heiiiiiiiiiiiiist mission!!!#its been so so fun#OH AND FINALLY the last one is reinheart!#who is one of our pcs!#a kalashstar war cleric#i plan to draw the other pcs eventually :]

is there anyone who was helped during their lives by what yrz started? a school they went to or some charity they received? i just imagine if someone close to him mentions his name without knowing. like if not for yrz's clinic i would've died as a child or his program saved my family from hunger or something. will yrz pretend he is not there? argue that the great saint wasn't that great?
Oh yes. His schools and hospitals exist all the way into the present. Some particularly devout sinners still pray to his saint hood even in hell. He left behind a grand legacy that helped thousands upon thousands and helped start new human rights movements like crazy,’mostly because of his own outrage. But Yrz views that as No Longer His Problem. He died! Life on earth done. All that amazing charity work got him was 100 years of solitary confinement. If his human life comes up in conversation he just goes oh that was after my time sorry.
Like Yrz is very much not a person to rest on his laurels or argue with other peoples subjective opinions. His attitude is more ‘ oh that thing I set up helped you feed your baby and got you free healthcare?? Good that’s what I designed it for.’

#delete later#on like half of the stories i've written on ao3 or more#i don't even get 10% of the viewers leaving kudos on my work and that's just kinda tiring man#we've come so far from the fanfiction.net days where writers solely thrived on comments and private messages to KNOW if their work is well#received by the online people#now you can just press a BUTTON to know that you enjoyed a story and it only takes like half a second!#there are so many people online who are constantly BEGGING everyone to PLEASE comment or review or let them know somehow that you've enjoyed#their work because we get so little feedback often and it is demotivating af#but if you're not gonna comment AT least leave a kudos rather than staying silent and consuming the stories like it's nothing#one thing i loved in the beginning of the ml fandom was how interactive everyone was with fanfics and how it had such a positive status#people were happily reblogging and leaving kudos and commenting LOADS back then#now???? it's literally SILENCE#back when my writing was worse prepandemic i easily got hundreds of kudos in a few days#but now i'm struggling to reach even 200 kudos in three months on my newer oneshots#engagement rate is soooooo bad now and it's demotivating af#i think this is why i prefer to write and send drabbles on discord because people there do respond and react to my works and it gives me the#push to keep going

ok im actually making a dent on the Lights Out prelim outline - ive got a bit over 4k in it but i didnt realize how tough the real start would be. It's actually... sort of boring lmao
#like all frank and wally can do is#sit around and talk / read / avoid sally / check on friends#like??? ITS SO SLOW#what fuckin else is there to do?#like we've got the minor conflict of them still having to do the occasional play for sally#and there's the existentialism of frank learning that everything is fake#but once he acclimates? theyre just vibing#all thats left is for frank to slowly lose hope and also touch with reality like wally#i mean i want him to go through an investigative phase bc he is Observant#but once he reaches the inevitable dead end?#theyre just hanging outttttt#what the hell would they even talk about...#frank trying to chat with a Very out of touch out of practice wally#absolutely unprompted#and so inevitably i have returned to the Aftermath and am working on that while my brain turns over act one things#ive got it on lock all the way to frank meeting the 'new' wally#siiiiiiigh....
