SPOONER AND LITA AND MICK???

Oh yeah - this one got complicated because it's had about three different iterations and eventually turned into another one on that WIP list. So this is now sort of a deleted scene that prob won't see the light of day even if I do finish the other fic. But basically, Spooner outsider POV on Mick and Lita having problems in their father-daughter relationship because of something big going on in Lita's life. The Spooner part ran away with me a bit, so it had to go :D

Since I'm prob never going to put it in a fic now, here's a bit of it (before Lita and Mick arrive on the scene). New-to-the-ship Spooner finding out just how much sex is going on around her...

On the fourth night of this, she moved cabins. Ava’s lady being elsewhere, Spooner was sure she'd finally get one quiet night.

But, no. Apparently Zari - her neighbour on the other side - has multiple partners. Probably just to annoy Spooner. “Polyamory,” Ava said cheerfully, that morning in line for the bathroom. “I recommend it.” She pulled Zari in for a very demonstrative kiss, making her squeak. Somehow, Spooner managed not to say I’m too ace for this, but it was a tough one. (She was starting to wonder if she was going to have to start adding “…ship” to her signature phrase.)

She raised an eyebrow at John, who was leaning back against the wall, reading an actual physical newspaper and paying Ava and Zari exactly no attention. He shrugged back at Spooner. “You think one person can keep this gorgeous girl happy? I’d be fucked out within a week.”

“Woman,” Zari chided, with a far-too-smitten smile at John.

“Damn right you are.” And then John leaned in for a kiss too, and it was all a big tangle of limbs and giggles, till Ava extracted herself and pointed out that she was not sleeping with John. It seemed important to her to make that clear.

Spooner considered coming back when the line was less full of horny people, but on this ship, she had a feeling it never would be.

4. opinion on brunch

Solidly pro, unless I am visiting or vacationing in a large metropolitan area where brunch is a statusy thing, in which case I am very anti because it crowds out the leisurely breakfasters, the early lunchers, and doesn't give wait staff or cooks enough time to rest and reset between seatings.

But like the food? The drinks? Not expecting everyone who wants to eat a big breakfast to be ready to consume a big breakfast before 9am? Iconic.

9. favorite scent and why

I had a set of shower gel/shampoo/conditioner about 20 years ago that smelled like the most sublime lemon candy in the entire world and I've been chasing that high ever since.

I also really like candles that smell like the good parts of sea spray and not the rotting fish/crab/seaweed, patchouli because I am a hippie pothead at heart*, candles that say they smell like cotton when they really mean powdery sweet fabric softener, that scent a cat has when they've been out in the snow for a while and come back into a warm house, the pine scent that almost overwhelms the highway between Portland, OR, and the coast, and food things roasting/toasting (coffee beans, root vegetables, turkey legs at a ren faire, sugar, really great breads). Oh, I also really like the smell on your hands after you wash them in a public restroom with that obnoxiously cheap pink liquid soap? Top ten scent for sure.

*a guy wearing patchouli walked past outside the coffee shop yesterday and I almost asked him to come back and stand there for a minute

🧬 Who would you like to see a crossover with?

Beyond the rest of the extended Arrowverse? I could see Legends having a fun Doctor Who crossover. With many shenaningans, much confusion about different time travel methods ("Time... stream? Huh, that's a new one on me, after hundreds of years"), and jokes about how Rory Williams reminds the Legends of someone but they just can't think who.

🎢 Favourite storyline

Legends of Tomorrow had storylines? I jest - although those def weren't the reason I watched the show. But I really enjoyed the android-clone Legends plot in the final season (I think it was the final season?) That was peak Legends chaotic weird. And because android Zari is the ultimate Zari and also my perfect woman.

💎 Favourite friendship

Mick and everyone. Mick and Amaya were wonderful. Mick and Ray, comedy duo for the ages. I wanted a lot more of Mick and Zari ("New Girl," beta reader for Mick's novels). Mick and Ava were a weird unexpected treasure later in the show. And of course, the absolute joy that is Mick and Sara - brotp forever. They had their ups and downs but they were family in a way that maybe only Snart ever was for Mick before. Excuse me, I'm off to cry and write Mick Rory fic.

🌠 Favourite episode

Here I Go Again. No Legends episode was ever perfect, but that one came damn close. The scenes between Zari and Nate will live rent-free in my head forever. "Groundhog Day!" "You're stuck in a time loop and we have to stop the ship from exploding?"

🔫 Favourite superpower

The superpowers aren't really what make this show great - some of the most watchable Legends in fight scenes have no powers - but I did enjoy everything they did with John Constantine's magic. If that counts as a superpower.

🤣 Funniest moment

How do you choose?? Any of the seriously weird shit Legends got away with. "Puppets of Tomorrow" and, possibly even weirder, demon puppet Stein. Gorilla Grodd fighting young Obama. Inspiring George Lucas to make Star Wars. Giant Voltron Beebo. "Guest Starring John Noble." Leo making the terrible mistake of trying to get the crew to share their feelings (a lot of the funniest scenes involved puppets). I could go on forever. Damn I miss this show.

Eddie Thawne: Canon Edition

Ahh, Eddie. Old reliable. The show really had no idea what they were giving us with Eddie, did they? They thought they’d just create a temporary love interest to distract Iris from Barry and keep the ‘will they won’t they’ thing going, who we’d forget about a season later - and instead we all fell in love forever (and would have been very happy with polyamory but maybe that one’s just me.) When I say ‘canon’ I really mean ‘canon is a suggestion, in this case in particular.’ But WOW then the show actually gave me Cobalt Blue and set up the perfect Westhallen scenario for the Flash, the Negative Speed Force avatar and the woman who is deeply connected to the Speed Force and loves them both I mean seriously where is the fic. (If the muse cooperates I might attempt to write it after the current WIP. Even if it would mean rewatching season 9…) But anyway Eddie is perfect and I needed canon Westhallen but thank gods for fic because the fandom had fun with these three.

And yes I said ‘if something happens to him I will cry’ and it did and I did. But then we got almost acceptable fix-it, for once, so I’m happy again!

Hartley Rathaway: Canon Edition

Hartley was just *there* for me, for a while, until I encountered two things: 1) Rogues fic featuring Hartley (ideally comics-influenced Deaf Hartley, but all fanon versions are good), and 2) my friends’ fics about him. Seriously, read @achangeinpriorities’ Hartley/Barry fics, but I know a bunch of awesome people who write Hartley really well (you included) and he’s massively grown on me in fanon/fic versions. Obviously I don’t love a bunch of what the show did with him in canon, but hey, they gave us a great (grumpy bastard of a) character and we ignored the rest. Good powers, nice thematic rats thing going on. I re-listened (obsessively) to ABBA’s The Piper recently and got some excellent dark!Hartley vibes. And now I’m listening again…

Also damn right I want Hartley’s gender. I headcanon nonbinary genderflux Hartley who uses he/them pronouns and I want their style. I mean just look at that cloak.

8. How slow is a slow burn?

Hah. I’ve read some *very* slow burns, but I don’t usually have the patience to write them myself. 12 chapters is about my limit before I get bored and start smooshing faces :D

10. Top three favourite fic tropes.

Is angst a trope? Okay, maybe that’s pushing it :D Number one would be anything domestic - especially what we used to call it ‘curtain fic’ (no plot, only buying of curtains). Two, neighbour fic (fits with the domestic thing really). Three, kink fic (I could get a lot more granular there but we’d be here forever…)

1, 12, and 29 for the weekend ask game please?

1. sleeping in or getting an early start

Sleeping in 5ever. I've gotten better at getting up early since a) getting a cpap and actually sleeping at night and b) starting to hike before work early in the pandemic. I've even seen sunrises without staying up all night! But I would much rather stay cozy or cool in bed until the very last second.

My new ADHD med is essentially speed and I haven't figured out how to counteract it by bedtime, so my sleep sucks again. I'd like to pretend to be a morning person and am hoping to get back to hiking before work or at least doing all of my PT and a new stretching routine.

12. tattoos or piercings on your wish list

When I was younger I went to get a flash tattoo after thinking about it for years but the parlor was unexpectedly closed so I took that as a sign that I'm not supposed to have one. But I really want more piercings! The anecdata on daith piercings preventing migraines looks good but I also have always wanted a cute little nose ring, more lobe and cartilage piercings, or maybe a lip ring. Both of my ears have conventional piercings already but I don't even like to wear earrings except for captive bead lol

29. do you play an instrument?

I used to play flute and violin and gave up on guitar after learning one song. I'd like to learn piano though.

17. a book you’re currently reading

I am currently reading Fat City by Leonard Gardner, by which I mean I carry it from room to room with every intention of reading it. It's very good! I just get distracted every six seconds and unlike the film version there is no disconcertingly attractive youngish!Stacy Keach to keep my attention.

0. the lasagna!

It is the GF one by Udi's with meat sauce and it's good but not great. The cheese on top kind of vaporized during one of the rounds of cooking or reheating but the ricotta is still creamy and the sauce has a good flavor and isn't too sweet or overly spiced like a lot of frozen Italian food. I found it at Target!

Sleepover Friday, what's your opinion on rice.

Brown rice is great, but white rice sends my heart into overdrive (dysautonomia triggered by refined carbs) so my opinion is: good, but only if brown. We just had brown rice risotto for lunch. The spouse spent an hour stirring at the stove, bless ‘em. It was lovely!

Sleepover Friday: what are your top two fave ships to write right now? Do you tend to get into one ship at a time or can you spread your interest across more?

Coldwave and coldflash. Yeah, my interest moves around - I basically get obsessed with one at a time (though coldwave is a pretty perennial one). I always look sadly at my other ships, patting them on the head and reassuring them that the obsession will come around again and they’ll get written once more!

Sleepover Friday ask Me About My Day

It was so nice! I drove 2.5 hours to sit in a field with a friend - it was the first time I’ve met a friend in person since March. As I’m someone who has a VERY hard time communicating over Zoom without brain-melting levels of anxiety, being able to talk to a friend in *person* was just so nice. I’m hoping I’ll be able to do the same again with a few other friends before the summer is out and I retreat till there’s a vaccine... Also I just got a new Thermos flask, and am I the only person who never knew how good those were? I had hot tea ALL afternoon long. And we saw ducks and crows and kites and dragonflies and so many wildflowers. A Good Day!
