Unveiling Our Vision: Milestone 1
Blog 2 - May 4, 2024

Artist: Arek & Anna Kajda - Pitch 3D Brand Illustrations 2020
This week, our team had the opportunity to present our Milestone 1, showcasing our Fish Box venture aimed at addressing the challenges faced by fishermen and fish vendors in preserving the quality of their daily catch. As we prepared and delivered our presentation, several valuable realizations dawned upon us.
Firstly, we recognized the importance of clearly articulating the "why" behind our venture. It's not enough to simply describe our product and its features; we need to paint a vivid picture of the problem we're solving and the impact we aim to create. Our pitch deck highlighted the significant food wastage, economic losses, and environmental pollution caused by the lack of reliable and sustainable refrigeration solutions in the fishing industry. Communicating this problem and our vision for a better future helped us establish a compelling narrative that resonates with our audience.
Secondly, we learned the value of customer validation. Our research and interviews with fishermen, fish vendors, and end consumers not only provided us with valuable insights into their pain points and needs but also served as a powerful tool to demonstrate the demand for our solution. By sharing the quantitative and qualitative data we gathered, we were able to substantiate the market potential and underscore the urgency of addressing this issue.
As we move forward, our team is committed to refining our pitch. We'll continue to hone our ability to communicate the essence of our venture, while also ensuring that we back it up with solid market research, customer validation, and a well-thought-out solution. By striking this balance, we aim to not only present a strong business case but also inspire others to join us on this journey of creating positive change in the fishing industry.

Balancing Storytelling and Technical Detail in Entrepreneurship
This week, our team had the chance to present our Fish Box project pitch to a group of experts. While they liked our fresh approach to tackling food waste and pollution in fishing, their feedback emphasized something we often forget – the importance of storytelling.
They pointed out that our presentation, although informative, lacked the gripping narrative and lively delivery needed to really grab attention. We came off as too formal and rigid, missing the opportunity to inject the passion and excitement that could make our idea truly stick.
As tech enthusiasts, we tend to dive deep into the technicalities of our products, sometimes overlooking the fact that we're not just selling a solution, but a vision. We need to vividly illustrate the problem we're solving, the impact we aim for, and the journey ahead, all while showcasing our personalities and genuine enthusiasm.
Furthermore, their suggestion to include product architecture in our next presentation reminded us of the importance of balancing the big picture with the nitty-gritty details. While storytelling is crucial, we must also provide solid technical information to demonstrate our credibility and the feasibility of our venture.
Moving forward, our team is committed to incorporating these insights. We'll focus on crafting a more captivating and visually stimulating pitch, one that truly reflects the passion driving our project while also delivering the necessary technical information. Because successful entrepreneurship isn't just about having a brilliant idea – it's about conveying that idea in a way that inspires and engages our audience.

Development and Discussion on Our Path to Sustainable Fishing Solutions
Blog 4 - March 8, 2024
Tumblr media
Artist: Paykhan - Vivre x EDF Magazine
This week was a big turning point in our ongoing project to create portable thermoelectric iceboxes since we asked our teacher for advice and submitted our progress report. The insightful input we received helped us navigate the complex world of sustainable solutions for small-scale fishers and highlighted the significance of continuing to interact with important stakeholders.
The consultation session was an important opportunity for introspection and improvement, highlighting the need for a more thorough comprehension of the difficulties experienced by fish sellers, customers, and fishermen. By highlighting the crucial function of direct interaction through interviews to gain deeper insights into the requirements and preferences of our target audience, our teacher's observations highlighted areas where our approach may be better.
Equipped with a fresh sense of direction and determination, we're determined to step up the number of interviews we do with fishermen, fish vendors, and consumers. These exchanges are essential for both co-creating solutions that meet the needs and goals of the people we aim to assist, as well as for verifying our theories.
Our focus remains unwavering on establishing meaningful connections and fostering a sense of shared ownership among all stakeholders. We seek to bring together various viewpoints into a cogent story that guides the creation of creative and long-lasting solutions for the fishing community by active listening, empathy, and teamwork.
Finally, we would like to say that the progress report and consultation session have given our project to create portable thermoelectric iceboxes new life and purpose. We are getting closer to realizing our common goal of empowering small-scale fishermen and encouraging environmental stewardship in the fishing sector with every interview. We set out on a path of self-discovery, resiliency, and group action together, driven by the unyielding will to bring about positive change in the world.

S p a t i a l A w a r e n e s s
I don’t spend a ton of time out in the world, but when I do, I am bombarded by the fact that people have horrible spatial awareness. It’s actually ridiculous how much people don’t pay attention to their surroundings and fellow humans.
I work in a mall, so I see this a lot because of that. I know that many stores have awkwardly narrow aisles or have random stands that take up space in wider aisles. I know that some buildings have inconvenient layouts and some sidewalks aren’t wide enough. That being said, even with the widest of aisles, the most expansive of spaces, people still manage to be in the way and not care to realize it. I’ve been stuck behind a single person walking like an idiot and taking up an entire sidewalk. I’ve been stuck behind pairs of people walking apart in such a way that you can’t get around them or go through them. I’ve been stuck behind groups of people taking up entire hallways and aisles by walking side by side instead of clumping. I’ve had to serpentine dramatically just to get to the food court on my lunch breaks. When in a car, it’s been difficult to get out of parking lots due to people slowly walking in the middle of the road. When at my till, people will scoot their carts so that they sit at a diagonal and block off the whole entryway.
It is astounding how these folk don’t just glance to the side and see that someone is trying to pass by and they’re in the way. And the worst part of this is, is the amount of these fools who ignore your requests for them to move. You can say “excuse me” all you like but they aren’t going anywhere. It doesn’t matter if you have a giant tiered cart of stock you need to get past them or if you’re an elderly person in a motorized scooter trying to get through a doorway. People will stand in your way and dismiss your words and you simply have to suffer and go another route or plow them down. Which would be a nice feeling, but alas, most of us are decent human beings and don’t fancy kicking our fellow idiots out of the way physically. I don’t know if it’s because everyone is so wrapped up inside their own heads that they truly don’t see anything around them or what. I’ve only started noticing this in recent years, but it must be something that’s always been present. It’s really frustrating though, and I’m at a loss as to why people find this acceptable. Could you imagine if everyone did this but when crossing the street? They’d all get hit by cars and it would be a bloodbath! It would be mayhem! It shouldn't be too much to ask to pay a wee bit of attention to our surroundings. We shouldn’t all have to fight for our lives just to get anywhere because morons are blissfully unaware of where they are at all times.

Nigeria week 1 blog
The most important quote of the week in my book, “Continent in balance: Africa: Nigeria” is on page 11 which states, “Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and one of its most diverse.” The book does a good job giving us a brief introduction to Nigeria. Sharing with us the histories of its geography and culture. In the book, the author starts with a nice opening about Africa.  Kind of quickly touching on its many different languages and religions as a whole. The author talks about revolutionary battles they have had and he gives us statistics to show us how big and diverse Africa really is. However, as we get more into the book the author begins to narrow down so the main focus could be Nigeria and how big and diverse Nigeria as a singular country is.
I thought this would be the perfect quote of the week because it really stamps what I’ve been learning. All I’ve been reading about this past week is how Nigeria specifically is very one of a kind. The book so far is just giving me a basic, but boring introduction on Nigeria and some of its history and statistics. It tells us about the many languages and religions that are booming in Nigeria. It was talking about the climate and how it varies from south to north and their own seasonal change and how it is different from us here in the US.  The book is broken down into many sections going from the landscape, environmental issues, animals to It's governmental status. So far I like the book. I haven’t read anything that I hadn’t known before as a Nigerian, but I am excited to read about the next chapter, which is talking about how Nigeria went from colonialism to democracy. I think in this next chapter, it’ll really show Nigerians true strength and how they are born warriors.

What is up every juan?!! Another week in my life. (Feeling vlogger yern) Well, I don't have any ganaps last week. Nothing special happened. Still working from Mondays to Fridays and sleeping every Saturdays and Sundays. Introvert ano? I went to David's Salon earlier for my haircut kasi 1 month na since last ako nagpa haircut and wala ng shape yung hair ko. Nag watsons, grocery at nagwaldas ng pera.(mayaman yern?)
Tumblr media
And I just want to share this also kasi sobrang nalulungkot ako, nafeel ko na paulit ulit nalang ginagawa ko. I am looking for something to look forward to. And I always tell my bff na magbook ng hotel, staycation ba. Or magwork kami together in a hotel. I just want a break, yung ako lang muna. Mag muni muni, magisip isip. And lately sobrang nagooverthink din ako, what will happen in the future. Ganun din ba kayo? Or ako lang?

The Art of the Pitch: Injecting Passion and Purpose
Blog 1 - April 24, 2024
Tumblr media
Artist: Arek & Anna Kajda - Pitch 3D Brand Illustrations 2020
This week, our team had the opportunity to present our pitch deck for our Fish Box venture to a panel of experts. While they showed approval for our innovative solution to address food wastage and pollution in the fishing industry, their feedback reminded us of a crucial element often overlooked – the power of storytelling.
The panelists pointed out that our presentation, though informative, lacked the compelling narrative and engaging delivery needed to truly captivate our audience. We were too formal and "stiff," failing to infuse our pitch with the passion and enthusiasm that could make our idea truly resonate.
As technoprenuers, we tend to get caught up in the technical details and practical aspects of our products, forgetting that ultimately, we're selling not just a solution, but a vision. We need to paint a vivid picture of the problem we're solving, the impact we aim to create, and the journey we're embarking on – all while injecting our own personalities and genuine excitement into the narrative.
Moreover, the panel's advice to provide the product architecture in our next presentation reminded us of the importance of striking a balance between the "big picture" and the nuts-and-bolts details. While captivating storytelling is crucial, we must also back it up with solid technical information to demonstrate our credibility and the feasibility of our venture.
As we move forward, our team is determined to apply these lessons. We'll work on crafting a more engaging and visually appealing pitch, one that truly showcases the passion driving our venture while also providing the necessary technical details. After all, successful technopreneurship is about more than just a great idea – it's about the ability to communicate that idea in a way that inspires and captivates our audience.

BLOG - Week 5
In our journey's fifth week, we dedicated our efforts to refining and presenting our value proposition. This critical piece outlines the compelling reasons why our product or service stands out as the choice for customers, spotlighting the key benefits they stand to gain.
To bring clarity to our value proposition, we developed a comprehensive Value Proposition Canvas. This included defining customer segments and creating value maps to ensure our offerings align perfectly with our customers' needs and expectations.
For the customer segment of travelers, we uncovered a pressing need for convenient and reliable charging solutions. These individuals are on a constant quest to keep their devices charged and ready, particularly during their travels. The frustration of battery depletion is a common plight, compounded by an increasing desire for sustainable options. Despite the availability of various solutions, there remains a gap – travelers are often left with powerless devices and insufficient charging opportunities.
Our exploration this week has been instrumental in understanding these challenges and shaping our offerings to meet and exceed the expectations of travelers, promising them a seamless and eco-friendly charging experience.

Enhancing Fisheries: A Technopreneurship Journey of Creativity and Cooperation
Blog 3 - March 3, 2024
Tumblr media
We recently engaged in a group exercise called Game 3 where we collaborated to envision a more positive future. Our main goal was to assist small-scale fishermen who cannot afford refrigeration and hence struggle to keep their catch fresh. We devised solar-powered iceboxes to help preserve fish without using styrofoam, which is bad for the environment.
We conducted interviews with fish vendors, customers, and fishermen throughout our activities to better understand their needs. We also learned that a lot of fisherman lose money because they can't keep their fish fresh for very long. We learned from our interviewees how crucial it is to build larger, more durable iceboxes in order to accommodate more fish.
We discovered from our conversations that maintaining fresh seafood is only a small portion of the issue. Additionally, we must guarantee that the fish maintain their coldness from the time of capture until they are sold. Speaking with fish vendors revealed to us that they can be valuable collaborators in informing consumers about our solution.
When we reflect on our work, we recognize that we must continue to pay attention to the people we are attempting to assist. In order to ensure that our ideas become practical solutions, we also need to collaborate closely. Our objective is to continuously develop and look for methods to improve the lives of fishermen and all those associated with the fishing business.

Expect Nothing, Embrace Everything
Here’s a thought: when you birth a child, you birth a stranger. You don’t know who this person is, nor who they will be. You embark on an adventure to learn though, each day, every moment you spend with them, more pieces are added to the puzzle. But the times you don’t spend with them, the times you don’t see them, those pieces stay hidden. The only way to recover them is by explanation. You want to know what these pieces look like, but you cannot see them. The child on the other hand has seen them and if you want to as well, you must listen to them and understand what they say.
Now why did I come up with this intro? Well, I shall tell ye.
The friend I mentioned a few times, the one good boy, moved to the mainland. He moved back in with his parents, the only place he could live rent free. He had been away from home for five years working his ass off nearly every day. He was in a management position at a fancy dessert place, making two dollars more than minimum wage. This man worked overtime so many times, he went in on days we were all hanging out to help people close or sort some issues out. He would usually be a relatively short walk away but once he ran a good distance just to fetch keys. Another couple times he would verbally explain instructions over the phone for as long as it took to assist a coworker when he wasn’t on the clock. He worked a closing shift and opened the next day more than once. He spent one night at my house to save him the bus ride since a manager had essentially quit on the spot and he was left with the immediate aftermath. This guy endured eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve hour shifts because he was the only person who could help. He rarely had days off. His only break was the few months in between him finishing school and moving back home.
The rest of us in our little group have been flabbergasted by this dude’s ability to function like that. He awes us, stuns us, and, frankly, concerns us at times with his need to be busy. Unfortunately, this is what was expected from him in his household. You always have to be on the go, doing something, making a career, being productive. Those were the expectations. Now he is back home with a six month job. He’s been back for about a month. His parents, who let him come home, are already asking when he’s going to move out. They have shown annoyance over him not having another job lined up already after his current one ends. It’s been a month.
Rewinding to my beginning thought, you birth a child and you want them to do well in life. You want them to be capable of anything and everything they want to do. You want them to have all the things and opportunities you did not. You push them to become that person you believe they can be. Since you birthed them, you think you know all about them. This is where the parent is wrong.
You may have seen your child as they grew and explored and excelled and failed and fought. You may think from that, you have all the puzzle pieces. However, there is everything you couldn’t see even if it was before you. Only the brain holder knows the capabilities of their held brain. I may look functional from the outside. I have a job, an apartment, a hobby. I went to school almost every day. I worked hard in most things I did. I have friends, I’ve gone travelling and on adventures. I’ve laughed and smiled and still do. On the outside, I look fine. But you cannot see my severe anxiety, my moderate depression, my ADHD, my chronic pain. You cannot see the emotions I’ve hidden from view. You cannot see the times I’ve cried myself to sleep alone at night. You cannot see when I’ve sat on my couch as a vegetable for hours or gone through weeks feeling naught but numbness. You cannot see any of that because either it is not visible or you weren’t there.
If you didn’t know that though, you would think I could do a lot. I’m active, productive, hard working, clean. I look like I have a lot of potential to do great things, therefore, as a parent, you would want to push me to do that. You would have expectations. If it goes unknown, a person not being as functional as they appear they should may look lazy. A child may be scolded for not doing more since they appear they can. They may be questioned why their work ethic isn’t strong or their motivation is lacking. It may be confusing because on the outside, everything seems fine. That is where there is failure. When expectations get in the way, the reasons get buried.
When parents create this entire personality, existence, being, what have you for their newly born child, they fail them. You are not creating another you. You are not just passing on your own genes to this person. When the bun is ready to come out of the oven, it doesn’t just have its parents seasoning, it has the seasoning of every generation before sprinkled on. Some flavours are light or miss the bun completely, others overpower the taste. You don’t know until you experience the bun though. It’s a gamble. If one wants to fully and properly indulge in the bun, they have to pay attention to it, not themselves. If something doesn’t taste right, or seems off but you can’t place why, inspect it. Ask your bun and listen to the reasons it gives for the flavour not being what you expected. Then mull over what it said and really let your brain comprehend the words. Too often reasons are seen as excuses and ignored.
We each are an individual, a unique makeup of genes from all over our family trees. As a child of my parents, or a child of my own, it makes no difference. We are all puzzles, mysteries, creatures to be discovered. It takes time to fully know each and every one of us. It takes patience and pondering. Stop thinking that children are an extension of the parent or a vessel for which they can live vicariously through. Stop expecting things and instead observe what’s there. Think of my friend, the one good boy. He never feels like he is good enough because of this mindset. He’s saved me three weeks of grocery shopping because he gave me fifty five pounds worth of food. He brought us chocolate covered strawberries and roses on valentine’s day. He drove us all the damn time in Evo’s that he never let us pay him back for. He’s given us more love and affection than we knew what to do with and he still doesn’t feel like he’s good enough. I myself have felt shame for not being capable of doing more before I knew why. I put myself down for being lazy or stupid if I fell behind what was expected. My other friends have experienced similar struggles. It’s not a new issue, but it is an avoidable one. Ye need just stop having expectations.
