Conceptualizing the tip top factory - I am interested in creating a path through space which would be juxtaposed with the existing structure, the path would allow flow through the space, providing vantage points where nature and structure can be observed co-existing.
The internal areas of the space that the path does not flow through would operate as offices for DOC, to assist in maintaining the space, as well as providing information to visitors.

Week Eighteen-Twenty
Week Eighteen/Four and a half months Week Nineteen/Almost five months Week Twenty/Five months:
On the language front:
I've finished the first two levels of my Norwegian course and we started level three this week.
Last week I posted a list of the things that I am confident talking about in Norwegian.
In the last two classes we had before the break I formed two sentences that I was really proud of, both about grammar:
Adjektiver er ord å beskrive substantiver. [Adjectives are words to describe nouns.] Adjektiver med siste bokstaver 'ig' har ikke 't'. [Adjectives with the last letters 'ig' don't have a 't'.] [As I explained in a previous post adjectives are conjugated along with the gender of the noun they are describing. One of the exceptions are words that end in 'ig' (such as koselig [cozy], hyggleig [nice/pleasant], deilig [delicious].]
Due to the holiday season we spent a lot of time with family and my Norwegian tends to improve when I'm around more people speaking Norwegian and holiday drinks don't hurt either.
I've been joking about how my flatmates don't feed me unless I ask for things in Norwegian, but really it's a good way to practice everyday words. Kan jeg få smoret? [Can I get the butter?] With all the dinners over Christmas I got a lot of pratice in.
I was required to read all of the gift cards on lillejulaften [the day before Christmas Eve] and the four “young people” (yes, including me) took turns on julaften [Christmas Eve].
On the last day of class before the break we sang a few traditional Christmas songs and the fiancé and I spent an afternoon going through them to make sure that I understood everything (it was actually quite hilarious, but when I wrote it down it felt like one of those 'I guess you had to be there' situations and I had some formatting issues so I didn't post. On lillejulaften I got to choose the song we sang so I picked the one that I knew best and it was a success.
On julaften svigermora reads one of the Moomin books in which they prepare for Christmas. I first heard it two years ago and understood nothing. This year I understood some words, but not sentences or full thoughts. We've decided that it will be a good measure for how well my Norwegian is coming along, whenever I spend Christmas here.
Weather:
All the snow melted before Christmas and we didn't get any more. I have to admit that I feel a little cheated. If I was to specifically go somewhere seeking a white Christmas Norway would be high on my list.
The ‘not that cold’ temperatures have persisted.
It snowed really hard yesterday, but it didn't stick.
I kinda feel sorry for my North American friends and family this week, judging by my Facebook newsfeed people are losing their minds.
Culture:
Christmas and New Year's Eve
This post is behind schedule because of the holidays. I'm trying very hard to differentiate between typical Norwegian behaviour and just my new family things, but it seems that Norwegians celebrate for the entire month of December until the beginning of January. Romjul is the period between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and the majority of people have it off as holiday.
Christmas Eve is the big deal over here and is usually reserved to spend with family. The days before or after can be spent with friends.
As a couple we've tried to arrange a schedule to take turns spending the holidays with my family in the US, the fiancé's family in Norway, and my family in the UK.
I've found that because the holiday is somewhat stretched out here there are more traditional things to do. I started to list them all but it was too long. There were like eight bullet points.
We also watched a helluva lot of films which I will list and review another time.
It has been decided, I am getting a new phone! Hopefully an iPhone, but I may have to wait unitl I get paid at the end of the month. I still miss Instagram… In the meantime the following is a list of images I would’ve Instagrammed if I had a new phone:
My first “sewing project” in which I didn't even use my sewing machine.
My new doll, Mini-Lee, which was handmade in Tehran. My fiance' gave her to me for lillejulaften. I have visions of getting some sewing practice by making clothes in miniature for her.
My for real bowtie that I tied by myself.

"BLUE YELLOW" (2010) - Jonathan Burrows
The framing and shot within this screen dance almost feels as if the dancer does not know she is being watched. It gives the impression someone is looking in on what she is doing without her being aware as she shows no signs of knowing the camera is there either through facial expression or movement wise. This is also shown by the camera filming through a door way, allowing the audience to see the edges of the room as if someone was standing outside of it. The camera uses a follow shot to follow the dancers movements often getting closer, then stepping back again always remaining outside the room like a stranger.

I began conceptualizing how the tip top factory may function as a park, I was particularly interested in this site as a lot of my research in the previous semester was informed by Marco Casagrande who works a lot with informal architecture in post-industrial spaces. The concept for this park was to play on the idea of where a sanctuary should exist. Similar to U-Thant island I wanted to create ecological sanctuary within an urban wasteland

What we are creating is not a dance, nor is it a video of a dance or even for that matter simply a video.
