"Daddy! Daddy, come quick! Mary's here!" Elicia bounded into the living room with a wide smile, her eyes shining with excitement. She reached over the arm of the couch to tug urgently on Hughes's sleeve.

As soon as his daughter called out to him, Hughes folded the newspaper he'd been reading and turned to her with an indulgent smile. It always warmed his heart to see his daughter so excited about anything, and her most recent passion had been repeatedly drawing a girl she referred to as Mary. Neither Hughes nor Gracia knew exactly where this sudden interest had come from, but Elicia was at that age where an imaginary friend was common, and they assumed that was the case here.

For the last few months, the same blonde girl had been appearing in Elcia's crayon masterpieces, and each time she talked about Mary as if it was someone she had been actually spending time with. Hughes had always found her sense of imagination to be an endearing quality, and he and Gracia had encouraged her to keep drawing and enjoy playing with her imaginary friend.

Hughes set the newspaper on the coffee table and rose to his feet, exchanging an amused smile with Gracia as she passed by with a basket of laundry. "Alright, Elicia. Let's go see what you made. Every drawing is better than the last, so I can't wait to see this newest one." It seemed strange that she'd left it in her room - which hopefully didn't mean a life-sized version of Mary now graced her bedroom wall - but if that's where she wanted to show him, he didn't mind following her.

"No, she's real!" Elicia insisted, grabbing her father's hand and hurriedly leading him toward her room. "I want you to meet her!"

Hughes gave a light laugh. She really was being persistent about this, but that was adorable in its own right. "Let's go meet her then." This was going to be a wall drawing, after all, wasn't it? Well, it would wash off.

When they stepped through her doorway, however, Hughes stopped dead in his tracks. There, in the middle of the room, stood a blonde girl dressed exactly like the one his daughter had been drawing. Gracia hadn't mentioned that Elicia would have a friend over today, and he'd been home all day hadn't heard anyone come into the house, so he couldn't think of a way anyone could have snuck in.

Elicia grinned widely and let go of his hand to scamper over to her very real friend's side. "See? I told you she's here."

Hughes managed not to furrow his brow so as to avoid giving the impression that he was angry at either of them and somehow managed a smile he hoped looked more comforting than confused. He slowly crossed the room to crouch down in front of the two girls.

"Hi there. I'm Elicia's dad. Are you a friend of hers? How did you get in here?" He kept his voice soft and welcoming, though he couldn't possibly think of a way she could have gotten into the house with out attracting attention.

Haha, I'm glad you noticed. I really enjoyed the art and it has been my first ever kind of equal response - as in the only art I've received before for anything.

There is this thing I started to do a few days, where I think about the relationships and create categorized lists of the potential relationship or relationships between my OC & a character. It’s just to help get an idea of the interactions between the characters for the roleplay/story, then figure out the undecided and other relationships along the way.

Though I don't have any triggers, there are things I won't do with my OCs because it would truly be out of character for them.

I research a lot for my OCs, world building, and roleplaying, and I put much thought in various topics. But there is something in particular I have a personal experience with and it's something those who have also experienced or something similar, which is official adoption (legal adoption). For various other people, they have specially when there is no consent involved, no informed consent, and the lack of looking into alternatives (kinship (only if there is anyone alive, and safe for said person or people, to community/tribe (if you are familiar with ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act), you will understand what I mean), to guardianship; then fostering last); I only have experience with the lack of consent and informed consent. And there is also the issue of not being trauma informed (which is especially important when it comes to newborns and infants, and if the bio mother/parent had trauma (before, during the pregnancy (physical pain or injury, serious illness, war, natural disasters, terrorism, witnessing a death, rape, domestic abuse, incarceration within the criminal justice system, poverty, adoption trauma, medical trauma, family trauma, refugee trauma, traumatic grief, abuse and neglect (physical, sexual, emotional or psychological, religious, financial, digital, stalking, educational)—and those on the receiving end (and the causer) might not even recognize it was, is, or has been done at all or to a certain extent (even if the trauma suddenly hits them the worse they've experienced, though it could also be what leads them what realize they have trauma and what caused it); generational trauma comes to mind (humans being blank slates were never true, people just used to believe it was; but there are people who still believe this dangerous myth.
