Not to mention the whole point of HH is the exterminations were unjustifiable because the idea of Hell rising up against Heaven was an imagined problem. If Hell did decide to rebel against Heaven that dick Adam and her unhinged lieutenant were Right All Along™ and thus the Hotel is made meaningless.
I would usually agree. I would say that it's all on Sera's head and she's acting preemptively to stop something that won't happen. I would say that Adam used that unfounded fear to plant an idea and make the extermination happen....
However
In Episode 3 we see those fears aren't unfounded. Velvette and the Vee's came up with an assault plan the moment they realized that Angels weren't invulnerable. They were ready to take the fight to heaven the moment they knew they could, and since we'll be seeing more of them in season 2, I don't doubt they haven't changed their plans.
It unfortunately makes sense. War criminals, corrupt political leaders, those people are in Hell too. People who would want to attack Heaven and get revenge for the Exterminations. People who would want to make Heaven another Hell and don't care who they have to hurt to make that happen.
Sera's fear isn't unfounded. There are people who would want to tear Heaven out of the sky and watch it burn. There is reason to be cautious. Not cruel, of course, but wary of those who do not have good intentions.
However, to condemn all the sinners would be to condemn people like Angel Dust. Angel, who's killed in his lifetime. Angel who had no choice in how he was born. Angel who loves his friends so dearly he'd risk his afterlife for them. Angel who wants to spare his friends from suffering. This black and white view refuses all the nuance and depth that humans have.
It's complicated
Hazbin Hotel plays in the grey area of things, it never makes a story simple, and instead keeps it complicated and messy. It's more complicated than children's media is allowed to be and it plays with those messy adult themes well. The point is that there are no easy solutions, and viewing the world as 'good' or 'bad' refuses room for understanding.
Like you said, rising up would just kind of prove heaven right, at least in their eyes. And in the end, Hell wouldn't even win. It's a lose-lose situation if a war breaks out.
But that's just my take on it ^v^ I really like the show and analyzing it. Plus, those themes are ones I LOVE working with. I like it when things are messy, but not hopeless. Which, of course, Hazbin Hotel fits right into.

I am beyond hyped for Resident Evil 4 Remake! I'm about to geek out in this post with my analysis on the leaks, so if you want to read that, it'll be below the cut.
Dude, I remember when that game first came out for the playstation 2, I was just in 8 or 9th grade at the time. It's one of my favorites, despite its obvious issues with the writing. Still a fun game.
The leaks are impressive! And I mean REALLY impressive! The designs of the enemies and the main characters look fucking stellar! From what I'm seeing, Ashley is actually getting character development. Halle-fucking-lujah! I've been preaching this for years, but Ashley in the original game was objectively awful in every way. I'm sorry, but she was.
According to some sources I found, the writing team for the remake have actually given her a personality and made her character more self reliant than her previous archetype. YES!!! YES!!! THIS is what I want to see!!! Take her crybaby, useless, original character and make her more real. Like, make me care about her!! Take her from the comforts of home, and throw her into some horrifying shit and SHOW ME that she can rely on her own instincts, with or without Leon's help.
Develop her character!!! THIS is what I want to see!!! Fuck, they even have a screencap of her holding a gun. I am so hopeful for what they'll do with it. So hopeful. Honest to god, if they pull her newly written character off really well, I will completely adore and respect Ashley SO much more. And hell, for what it's worth, I'll tell you what else will be fucking amazing...develop her in RE4 Remake enough that she's more complex, and then maybe BRING her back in future games.
Show us that after part 4 she isn't the same, kind of like what they're doing with Leon when it comes to the aftermath of RE2. Let the previous game have a dramatic affect on her life to the point that she feels compelled to join up with the protags, and go on her own special missions. From comfort and riches, to guns blazing and taking down an evil corporation AS THE (former) PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER. Capcom could do SO MUCH with that I think.
Now with that out of the way, I have so much more to say. My thoughts about replacing Salazar's dwarfism with frailty doesn't change much to the plot or the character. Just feels like a change for the sake of making a change...? I don't know. Still looking forward to seeing his fucked up transformation just the same because hell yes I want to see that fucked up shit.
And then, my only real complaint is Luis Sera. And no, it's not about his design. I actually really like what they did with his appearance. It's the direction and butchering they're doing to him that I'm very leery of.
Christ, they're actually making HIM the final boss and not Saddler? Why? What's the use of having Saddler at all, if thats the case? Saddler was the big-bad. I mean, cutting Krauser out completely and making Luis a conniving piece of shit that kidnaps Ashley doesn't make any fucking sense??? What ties does he have with the American government??? Krauser trained with Leon, so it only makes sense that he would have anything to do with it at all. It's not like Luis flew to America and then flew back with Ashley, like, the fuck????
Not to mention the blatant character butchering they did to him. Luis was a cool guy that turned against the Los Illuminados in the original game, now he's...the main villain I guess?? Okay....
I mean don't get me wrong, it COULD work, but it's just so fucking weird that they would do that... Luis was charming, and a likeable guy, now he's...not that. He's weird. I don't know yet if I like the direction they're going with that. It's a see-it-to-believe-it kind of thing for me if I'm to believe it's good writing in disguise. Sorry, but I just don't trust it so far.
If they REALLY wanted to make Luis a villain, then in my honest opinion they could still do that without butchering his personality and omitting Krauser from the story. Remember It? The monster on the island level that chases you before the final battle with Krauser? Make Luis mutate into that after Saddler "kills" him, and there you go. He's a charming likeable dude AND a boss. Making him the final boss and the kidnapper is just a little overreaching. Those are my thoughts.
Other than that, I will finally just say that the Ganados look SO MUCH BETTER. Everything looks INCREDIBLE. And I CANNOT WAIT to take it all in when the game is released.

This is @queer-verse’s ask about ep 249!!!🍿🥤🍭🍬🍫🧋🥨🥬🍦🍧🧊🐇
!!!!!WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!! !!!!!READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!
Ep 249!!
Warning this is long lol
- the mind games have begun
- im still sure that sera isn't gonna fall for it but it must be really rough for her rn
- lmao i screamed when she told him to group up
- as in my anxiety kicked in
- like how tf do u even do that, esp when uk they don't want u there
- LMAO THE "HELLO 🤗"
- I COULD NEVER
- HE REALLY HAS NO SHAME
- "it must be a sign" ASSRFVJN
- and oof i was waiting for a confrontation
- i wasn't really vibing w this weird lets be fake nice limbo
- and Honestly Blyke has so much to work thru. like hes a hypocrite rn, but i think the only way forward is accepting is that he was once just like john, just way less extreme
- and hello? the dialogue is killing me. most of the drama in uno starts bc no one knows how to use their words
- if someone beat me up brutally for months and then said it was bc of my headspace, i would be furious too (not that blyke is totally justified). thats not even close to a real apology (if john already apologized i forgot sorry)
- but thb
- they dont deserve an apology unless they own up as well
- like why r they "putting up" w john rn? all of them? its bc they all feel guilty deel down, but noone is ready to own up.
- "saints for being able to keep their cool"???? hello? did u just point at arlo? boi, they haven't denied their actions as deeply as u have. they know that they were at fault as well.
- everyone had kinda concluded "we've all fucked up, so lets just silently move on and be polite to eachother" on their own
- and blyke broke that mutual agreement
- and im glad. stuff needs to be said
- arlo was the biggest piece of shit for what he did. he was a flaming arse hole, the worst of em all. and even tho he kinda realized it, it was for all the wrong reasons and he STILL hasnt give a legit apology
- blyke comes second, ive given my reasons. He's come far but he still has a long way to go. so many apologies
- remi is the embodiment of toxic positivity and i really hope that Changes. she might owe a general apology to john for not being a better queen at first but assuming she was doing good anyway. ill never understand why she didn't try to carry on her brothers legacy. i mean, i do understand but sis didn't even try
- isen 😭😭 he needs to treat john like person. but honestly, the way hes so done is peak entertainment
- obvs there are things john needs to be sorry for as well, but its like thats the only thing everyone (in the story) sees
- anyway, w the way hes going i bet john is going to be the first one to step up in the group, good for him.
- good for fucking him that he went after Blyke
- JOHN MY KING
- SEE THIS IS WHAT I MEAN HES SO MUCH BETTER THAN BLYKE RN
- yea, and blyke needs to cope w the fact that he was a part of the fucked upness of the heirarchy, and that somewhere in there, john had a point
- he needs to accept that someone who hurt everything he cares about is actually just a person who is trying to change just like john has
- perpetually obsessed w the trope of a lowerclass less privileged "genius" rising to the top and being rooted for but then they slowly get more and more questionable and loose support and get called the fuck out but we realize that theyre just doing what the "rich" did all along and it's not fair that they're the only one who had repercussions
- like that's basically human history
- YESSSSS
- FOR A SEC I THOUGHT IT WAS SPECTRE BUT THIS IS FINE
- LMAO DONT HATE ME BUT I MISSED THE FIGHTS
- IM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO OUT FIRST FIGHT IN A LONG TIME
- BLYKE AND JOHN CAN KICK👏THEIR 👏 FUCKING 👏BUTTS👏
- IM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT EPISODE EVEN MORE THAN I DID AFTER 245
- IM IN MIDDLE SCHOOL SCREAMING FIGHTFIGHTFIGHTFIGHT
- Boba anon 🧋
----
*I’m guessing she’s not gonna fall for it since she told John to go group with the others
*God John is such a menace
*I personally don’t think Blyke’s being a hypocrite. Like to me I think Blyke has a wayyy better reason to act like this to John than John did to Blyke
*Like Blyke got trauma from the Joker v Royals fight and with all of the further fights between Blyke and John and with John actively targeting Safe House, Blyke learned that John’s a threat
*Stuff like that takes a long time to work out
*Like he TRIED really hard to be John’s friend like he said this episode
*And I don’t think John’s actually apologized to anyone other than Sera but I might be wrong
*I mean the royals kinda did own up
*Especially Blyke and Arlo considering they owned up to people other than John
*The big example of this is Safe House and the new peace at Wellston
*But I absolutely wouldn’t say Blyke is hiding what he did
*I mean the Zeke v Blyke fight he literally says that the royals fucked up and how they needed to do better and stop bullying everyone
*I understand both the polite move on and Blyke’s point
*Like the polite part is to keep the peace and bc they can’t go back and change things, they can only more forwards
*And as I mentioned before, Blyke literally has at least a minor form of PTSD from the crap John did
*He has so many symptoms of minor PTSD
*Plus Blyke seems like the type of guy to treat others how he’s treated
*He’s super nice to Remi, he’s sarcastic and crap with Isen, he’s respectful to Arlo and Sera
*The only thing he’s gotten from John is hatred and aggression
*Didn’t Remi apologize when she met with John in his room? I might be remembering wrong though😅
*I think everyone’s just trying to do what’s best
*Plus I don’t think John would be accepting of their apologies
*Like up until this trip, he didn’t give a shit about anyone other than Sera
*While I give John props for going after Blyke, Blyke doesn’t owe John anything
*Like John’s done NOTHING but hurt people Blyke cares about and be an asshole from the moment they met
*I don’t blame Blyke at all
*Like I’d be soo pissed if I were in his shoes
*Bc from Blyke’s perspective John’s just this super dude that pretended to be weak for a lil while, got angry and then hurt a lot of people, including putting me and my best friend in the hospital before targeting the club members of the Safe House that was created to help out people
*Like I’m p sure that Blyke doesn’t even know that John’s ability developed late (i might be wrong though)
*John’s just a bloodthirsty bully for the entirety of the student body except Sera, Arlo, and maybe Remi
*Idk
*But yes!!! I’m so excited to see them fight together!!!
*Also John canonically only has 1 method of making friends and that’s to just keep following people around, even when they tell him to leave them alone until they just give up

EPISODE 164
Honorable mentions:
Idea: Arlo becomes a fake joker. Idk if he does it either to take down john or just try to use the authority to fix the school, but im entertained by the idea lmao
I miss Cecile but that’s just a given. I miss her even when she’s in the actual episode lol
Technically Arlo’s not the king anymore but everyone’s still terrified of him and I live for that
Arlo and Rei’s ‘I always have a reason’ parallels are great but that just be my love for parallels talking im not sure yet
Not gonna talk about Blyke again until we see him next because apparently you guys very much disagreed with what i said about what he was going to do in my last episode thing so- I want more information to do off of, but honestly, im still kind of sticking to what I originally thought. Blyke getting enhancement drugs, it makes sense you guys are just mean isudhgfusjhgf
Back on that ‘anyways is my favorite word’ agenda
Colors are nice
The last section isn’t very professional but thats just because i was freaking out about the last scene and it very much shows im just so excited guys
This episode, episode 164, marks the 50th episode since I started writing these, so that’s fun.
Also: this is over a week late, I know, but until i post this, know that i haven’t read any episodes after this episode (ep 164). A lot of times when I am late with these I either forget (it’s constant and often and becoming an issue) or im doing something else that’s creative related that i feel the same obligation to do as the obligation to do this (? Making sense? Not sure), and school.so that’s why this is late oops
Ignore that its not important im just sorry this is late
Anyway, here’s the analysis/commentary/review (? Still confused about this) for episode 164
Also half of this is not proofread because theres a chance if i do that ill get even more writers block even though that technically shouldn’t happen but it does and i just want this out so sorry if some sentences completely cut off or i just don’t talk about something because oops is it worth it at this point
Fake Jokers:
Starting with this because, hey, chronological order. In the beginning of this episode Arlo is approaching a group of students gathered around a piece of paper stuck onto the bulletin board saying that there are fake jokers running around. One of the bystanders is seen saying, “I wouldn’t mind being Joker for a day.” This isn’t very concerning by itself because we already know that people are already doing this, but I just want to point out that the reporter who tried to publish the story about the fake Jokers argued that they should because the students needed to be warned against the fake jokers. What the bystander in this episode tells us is that this reporter was wrong and Isen was in fact right (we been knew but).
Something bigger that I want to bring up is that now because lots of students have been exposed to the idea of faking being Joker, more and more are obviously going to be doing it, which I kind of already just said, but the consequences of such a thing are what intrigue me. If the school is suddenly filled with fake jokers and students are already aware that the majority of the jokers are fake, the Joker mantle is going to lose its significance. No student would take any joker seriously, even if it happened to be the real one.
The thing about that is that the real Joker, John, won’t be able to use his authority as well anymore. If nobody recognizes Joker as the king anymore (what with so many low-tiers also wearing the mask), they’re not going to listen to him. It basically means that John wouldn’t be king anymore. And, though I’m still confused on if John even really wants to be king, if he wanted to be, if he wanted that authority, he would have to find a better way to present himself. It means that John would either have to figure out a way to separate himself from the other jokers (I don’t really know) or reveal his identity to the whole school. This would be something huge, especially because, to John’s knowledge, Sera doesn’t even know who he is yet. But who knows, by the time the decision rolls around or things escalate enough, he might have figured out what she knows.
Another interesting idea is that John would take advantage of this situation to let himself be lost among the fake jokers and disappear, leaving the school without a king anymore and also in chaos, because honestly who. Knows. What the fuck. He wants. Not me.
I do think, however, that John will stay as king. Because every once in a while he’ll make some comment suggesting that, and in one of the recent episodes, he got pissed that someone was impersonating him and if wants to blend in again and not be recognized for his power, I doubt he would act like that.
Isen/Arlo confrontation:
So, in this episode we get Isen yelling at Arlo, which you love to see, and I’m here to talk about it yay.
Isen, at the beginning of the scene, is very nervous and scared of what Arlo would do when he comes, which is very understandable. That dude is scary but anyways, once Arlo does show up and starts yelling, which was exactly what Isen was afraid of, instead of letting himself retreat into his fear, Isen argues back at Arlo, which to be fair probably wasn’t an active decision, supported by how he acts after he yells at Arlo. Isen just blurts out what’s in his head and it’s pretty eye-opening. Isen yells that he never wanted to be given any of the responsibilities given to him by Arlo. He specifically talks about his role as head of the newspaper, but he says later in a much more general way that Arlo forces people into responsibilities that they either don’t want or aren’t ready for. This makes me think back to the beginning of the comic when Arlo made Isen dig up information on John. Isen acted pretty scared and squirrelly once he found out something he knew Arlo wouldn’t want to hear, and that behavior is very much repeated in this episode. Anyway, back to what’s happening currently. Isen defends himself against Arlo saying that Arlo’s accusations weren’t even fair because Isen tried to do the best he could to stop the news of the fake jokers from getting out. Also, it really doesn’t make sense to be blaming Isen for someone else leaking the information (without him knowing) and posting it on a public board (not even affiliated with the school newspaper). What happened is not a result of Isen’s bad leadership, or at least that what Isen tries to argue. Arlo has some other ideas on that subject though. Arlo thinks that if Isen were a better leader, the other students would just listen to him and not go behind his back to publish the information, which I have some thoughts on.
First of all, the fact that Arlo thinks this is the bare minimum for leadership speaks a lot about him. Arlo was the last king of Wellston, which means he was a leader, and he doesn’t think he was a bad one. I think Arlo thought he was a really great leader, because he was to be honest. He fixed the mess that Rei made and kept the students under control. Anyway, Arlo thinking that people follow good leaders with this blind loyalty and trust means that that was the case under his leadership. I just want to say that this probably means that Arlo thinks John is a shit leader, but we been knew. But who knows, John might have that kind of leadership and it would be for the same reason that I think Arlo did: power. Arlo is obviously one of the most powerful people at Wellston. Even more so than his title of king, and probably even his leadership skills, there is no doubt that the reason so many people followed him was this, especially considering the type of society UnOrdinary was. John, as Joker, has lots of authority and power among the Wellston students, which we talked about in the first section, and no one can doubt that it’s because of one thing: his power. People follow powerful people, it’s the way of the world, it’s how hierarchy works. But what I want to point out in relation to this episode is that Arlo seems to pushing this expectation of “leadership” onto Isen. Arlo is undoubtedly a fantastic leader, but as I keep. Repeating. His power plays a huge part in the respect given to him. Isen, though definitely more powerful than some, doesn’t exactly have that power. Not to the extent that Arlo or John has at least. And because of this, obviously, doing what Arlo and John are doing won’t work in the same way for Isen because it’s not enough. He doesn’t have that power backing him up, which is why Arlo’s expectations are unreasonable for him, which is why Isen keeps saying that he can’t do it and it understanding this is why Arlo keeps saying that Isen can. The line, “we’re not all as capable as you are!” From Isen really emphasizes this, though it probably was misunderstood by Arlo as, ‘we’re not as good leaders are you are,’ which might also be true, but that’s not what Isen’s trying to communicate.
Now that I’ve talked about that, there’s something else in this scene that catches attention. After Isen’s outburst at him, Arlo thinks about what he said and firstly, agrees with Isen that he really does set high expectations for people, but secondly, he says that, “it’s never without a reason…” Now, this stood out over Isen’s argument when I first read the episode because of how blunt the statement is. It surprised me in a kind of way. Arlo telling himself that he always has a reason for setting high expectations of people. I was especially intrigued by the pairing of that statement with Arlo’s mental image of John. If Arlo truly feels that he had a reason for believing in John, what was it? I know that he wanted John to accept his responsibilities as a high-tier, but that’s not what Arlo is saying in this episode. He’s saying there’s a reason that he gives people responsibility. Does Arlo have some specific reason for wanting John to have authority? Does it go past that drive inside of Arlo that tells him that people need to be put into their places just because. I wouldn’t really be thinking much about this at all (especially considering that it it very in character for Arlo to make John resume his place purely to secure them hierarchy) if it wasn’t for the fact that only John’s face showed up in between the lines, “I do set high expectations for others,” and, “But it’s never without a reason…” the placement automatically makes me assume that it was chosen for a reason. But who knows, that might just have been a way to remind the reader that Arlo is constantly being reminded of what happened between him and John and how it affected everything.
Anyway, these lines also have me thinking about Arlo’s recent turmoil with himself about John and the part Arlo played in the whole Joker situation. We know that Arlo has been blaming himself for this for a while now because without his interference, John would never have decided to dethrone him and all of the other royals, or at least not to the extent that he did. But in this episode, seeing Arlo talk about how everything he does has a reason and especially those later panels after Arlo leaves the room showing him when he was younger, it’s starting to make me think that Arlo is changing his way of thinking.
“But it’s never without a reason” He swings wildly from agreeing with his past decisions and disagreeing with them, but maybe because this is the most recent, he’s finally realized that he hasn’t been the one in the wrong this whole time. I’m not exactly sure and I don’t want to assume based completely off of one scene, but I really am hoping for some development in this way for Arlo because a. I love him and b. More hatred centered around John, which would mean more drama and I love that. Not much more to say about this
The Talk (wink wink):
I hate what i called this section because i thought of it at like 4am but i dont know what else to call it so- anyways the biggest thing that happened this episode has to be when Arlo and Seraphina met up to talk because if you read my posts, you know that I’ve been begging for this for a while and can I say, im hyped.
First, I want to start with something small, but something that is bothering me. Seraphina seems so pissed at Arlo doing this whole scene, and for what? Honestly, I hope im not biased or anything because I absolutely love Arlo, but he really hasn’t done much wrong in this whole joker situation. The only rational reason I can think of for Sera being pissed at him is because of the whole Arlo fighting john in that clearing like a long fucking time ago. Which, you know, I understand, but at the same time, recently, Arlo has obviously been trying to only help you and tell you the truth, you were the one who was being difficult. I honestly think that she’s just in this state of pissed off because of John, but i don’t know. I hope I’m not forgetting any shit because if im being honest, i don’t pay as much attention to her storyline as I should, especially recently, because i do not care that much for her character, at least not as much as the others. So yeah. R.I.P. that. I don’t know. This isn’t important i think im just very Arlo biased sorry bout that.
OKAY FIRST OF ALL THEIR CONVERSATION STARTING WITH ARLO REMINISCING WITH SERAPHINA ABOUT WHEN THEY WERE THE KING AND QUEEN OF WELLSTON IS ACTUALLY BASICALLY EXACTRLY HOW IVE WRITTEN WHAT I WANT THEIR FRIENDSHIP TO BECOME AFTER THIS AND I WISH THEY TALKED MORE ABOUT THAT ASPECT BECAYSE i would actually die for Arlo and sera to realize that the only thing that kept them apart was not realizing how much they had in fucking common and in reality they were the two people who understood each other the most and i know i sound very confusing because i just talked about how i love Arlo and how i dont love sera all that much but that is beside. The. Point.
Anyway, Arlo talks about how successful their leadership was (back to that common motif of leadership that Arlo just seems to carry around) and how now that that’s changed, the school’s whole vibe has been horribly threw off and shit is happening and he has no clue how to fix it ( I am so sorry for my god awful gen z vocabulary I realize these posts become just completely cheapened because of that but i dont know how else to communicate sorry bout that). Anyway, this struck me as a weird way to start this conversation because Arlo hadn’t reached out to sera before this to talk about john (after she found out about him at least) and it seems to me that he would want to talk to her about that, but the disarming way that Arlo starts talking took me off guard. I’m not really sure about why yet or what I want to say about that, but that confused me.
Anyway, it doesn’t really matter because sera brings up john herself and directs that conversation where we knew it would go, but at the same time she starts talking about feelings too and this is just so weird because Arlo and sera both are characters who we’re not used to really seeing talk about their feelings and stuff. I think that this has changed though recently for both of them because of the stuff they’ve been through and im here for it, but anyways, i should really talk about the actual contents of their conversation hold up.
But the thing fucking is.
I have to wait for the next episode to fucking get the actual content of their conversation ikfuhefhbejkfhieuhfgieughfnierugniejnrgkjergnkejgnieknjgvkdlnv. *upset noises*

Gryff strongarmed him out of prison using Inquisition resources and had him continue to fight as part of the Inquisition. ah, but his judgement specifics was a tough one. on one hand, she doesn’t care about what he did before she met him and things he did while outside the Inquisition. she doesn’t care about treason to a human kingdom, nor about the murder of nobles really. on the other, she values honesty and not being a coward, and more importantly, the betrayal of the loyal men under his command was unconscionable and indefensible to her - you protect your men, soldiers who trust you with their lives as their commander. to do otherwise goes against everything she believes in, she’d sooner die herself than betray her men. that was what she took most issue with really, over the general deception, lies or the murder of some people. if he’d done that or a similar thing as part of the Inquisition, while he was under her command, she would have executed him without a second thought. she had respected him as a warrior and as a Warden, but her respect for him completely nosedived and evaporated on learning what transpired between him and his men.
the first time around I had her free him and reveal his identity, but in hindsight I think it makes more sense for her as a character to opt to send him to the Wardens to undergo the Joining for real after Cory’s defeat. thank goodness for the Keep eh?
Solas1. Did your Inquisitor engage Solas academically with questions or were they uninterested in his experiences?3. If your inquisitor was told they were “unlike others of their race” by Solas, how did they respond? Were they angry or grateful?
1. not at first, because she mistrusted him from the outset. she also has little interest in intellectual matters outside of theories of war (and definitely not in the metaphysical), and did not appreciate Solas’ criticisms of and comments about the Dalish. silly really, because they each looked down on the other for a time. it made for a bad combination initially - they had a strange, bitter and belligerent association for a time. the development into mutual respect, comrades-in-arms and eventual friends there is really interesting to me, maybe I’ll write about it to chart it out ‘on paper’ someday.. it doesn’t follow the game exactly.
she came to accept that he was an expert on the Fade, the anchor and the sort of forces she was dealing with when it came to sealing the Breach. consequently, ever the pragmatist, she sought his counsel on those subjects and had him join her in the field as she journeyed around closing tears. eventually her Dalish desire and drive to recover and relearn as much of the past and their culture/history as possible got the better of her pride and distrust, and she would ask him about what he’d seen in his travels through the Fade, about ancient elves, the ancient elven kingdom and what had been lost. then about other stuff, like spirits (her growing friendship with Cole helped springboard that one, she wanted to understand Cole better) and magic in general. and it went from there really. (I will say that I dooon’t headcanon or think of Solas and Gryff as having had a teacher/student or elder/child relationship, for me personally that’s an uncomfortable power dynamic. I think of them as two equals who just had different areas of knowledge and expertise, who learned from one another in a give and take sort of way. I think it’s possible to pick someone’s brain/knowledge banks about a topic without that kind of dynamic being present.)
he did continue to frustrate her sometimes with his occasional bursts of intellectual and general superiority, tendency to longwindedness, and especially over their clashing ideas on how to help the elves. I tend to think that some of the arguments Solas has with Disapproval Inquisitor still occur in a manner of speaking between Solas and Gryff. you know, like DA:I’s main basegame plot spanned a whole year or so and a lot can happen in a year, and Solas content was not as extensive as some of the other companions’ were, particularly as a romance compared to the others. a game is inevitably constrained by length, resources, simplistic axes like “approval” and “disapproval”, unrealistic mechanics like “touch all these orbs for bonus approval points”, etc. real relationships between people are obviously a lot more complex. ah sorry.. these 2 just fascinate me so much, 2 very different individuals who both deeply love the People but have totally different ideas about how to help them.
3. he did tell her that, and she was angry. smh Solas. Gryff believes the Dalish made her who she is, that she’s no different from the rest of them and that Solas misjudged them. she loves and respects the Dalish. there are the new pieces of information regarding portions of elven history and the Evanuris, and she has her newfound.. atheism? secularism? (the main change is that she no longer believes in the Evanuris as gods the way she did before) and has disdain for aspects of the upper echelons of ancient elven culture (ex. the keeping of slaves by an elite upper class), but she is still proud to be Dalish. she feels there is plenty of value and worth in modern Dalish culture and (still practises and takes part in) their traditions, and in what they have reclaimed and made their own. she will always be Dalish and culturally Dalish.
Sera3. How did your Inquisitor respond to the truth of Sera’s childhood (the cookie scene), if they received it? Did they empathize?
despite the differences and initial teething problems between Gryff and Sera, she received it. she did empathize and was angry at the notion of a human noble lying to a young elf and telling her that a baker hated her simply for being an elf. go figure. but she was initially a bit ? about what the hell they were doing on the roof with cookies, and doesn’t have a great interpersonal manner. Sera clarified that she was trying to say she liked it in the Inquisition, and share this with the Inquisitor. kinda ‘thats great and I’m glad, but this is a bit ?. I know! why are we yelling? because we’re friends now. oh okay. let’s go get drunk. :)’ by Trespasser they are good friends.
Cole2. What did your Inquisitor think of Cole’s ability to see into people’s thoughts?
she thought it was unnatural, but quickly realized the strategic value of and advantages to be gained from the ability and indeed, of Cole’s other abilities, both on and off the battlefield. later, she would come to love Cole as if he were a member of her clan.
Iron Bull1. Was your Inquisitor wary of Bull upon learning he was a spy?
yes, and she was wary anyway. it didn’t unsettle her though, and she understood where he was coming from and why - flip the script, and from a certain angle she was a bit of a spy for her own people for their own ends, among other races and cultures, at the Conclave. their early interactions were engaged on a level akin to two soldiers from opposing factions during a time when a temporary truce or ceasefire had been declared. I think they both recognized that. professionals.
Vivienne3. Did the feelings of your Inquisitor towards Vivienne change at all after completing her personal mission about Duke Bastian, if yes, in what way?5. How did your Inquisitor feel about Vivienne? Friends? Allies? Rivals?
3. Gryff got her the heart she requested. Gryff didn’t really know what to say when Bastian died, or in the aftermath, but she felt for her. this sad and unfortunate event showed a side of Vivienne Gryff had understandably not been privy to before.
5. initially she did not really trust her, but Gryff doesn’t trust many people at all early on. early on they had a bit of disagreement for example about the Dalish and mages, the Circle etc. but I think this was not great writing on the writers’ part regarding Vivienne here, as opposed to Vivienne herself. Vivienne is a formidable, compassionate, smart and wise woman of considerable ability and power. Gryff rejected the Game but appreciated Vivienne’s insights and political acumen, for often Vivienne saw what Gryff could not. they were definitely allies, and perhaps something akin to friends by the end - I think Gryff developed great respect for Vivienne, in time. they have some different views on some topics, but this is not a bad thing at all.
Varric2. How did your Inquisitor feel about Varric’s situation with Bianca? Who did they decide was right about what Bianca did?
Varric and Gryff are friends but she doesn’t really have opinions on his personal life. Varric tracked the red lyrium source. gryff thought Bianca was in the wrong with what she did, but at the time just shouted at them both to knock off the arguing.
Dorian1. How does your Inquisitor feel about Tevinter? Did Dorian change their feelings at all about the Imperium?5. Did your Inquisitor agree with Dorian’s decision to return to Tevinter? How did they feel about his choice?
1. dislikes Tevinter. dislikes what it did to Arlathan, dislikes it for its continued slavery and subjugation of elves. Dorian showed her that some Tevinter mages (later, Magisters, even) are different (they became good friends), and it is now of course known that the fall of Arlathan was more complicated than Dalish lore suggested, but she still dislikes the Imperium. she hopes Dorian and his faction gut it and reform it and burn away all the rotting corruption. she wishes them every success.
5. [bit of repetition here sorry] she wholeheartedly agrees with the need to reform the Imperium and remove the corruption, and with his desire to do so. she thinks there’s nobody better suited to doing so. she hopes he will succeed, and would render any aid she’s capable of giving, wolfhunt and clan-protecting duties permitting. she hopes he’ll be safe, be careful and that he’ll find success. she will miss him a lot though. they keep in touch via the sending crystal.
Cassandra4. Did your Inquisitor agree with Cassandra’s vision for the Chantry? Did they choose her as Divine?5. Does your Inquisitor know all of her middle names?
4. on balance Gryff doesn’t give a shit about the Chantry (dislikes it really) and didn’t really care about who the human grand clerics were favoring or not favoring to put on the sunburst throne, but is insightful and strategically-minded enough to realize that it was important to Cassandra, and, more importantly, that the belief structures of whoever ascended would most likely have far-ranging impacts on Thedas. by that point in the storyline she had been using her power and position as Inquisitor to help the People (Dalish and City alike) whenever, however and whereever possible. she supported Leliana for Divine because she agreed with the need for radical reform (specifically, Leliana’s ideas that all races are equal and that the Chantry’s tenets should reflect that). she had no desire to see elves be Andrastian and join the Chantry per se (if they didn’t really want to be that is - in the cases where ones do that’s totally fine), but Leliana’s ideas for how the Chantry should be were doubtless going to improve the lot of elves in southern Thedas in general. she also disagrees with Circles and Templars, and didnt want to lose her friend Cassandra to the Chantry throne, l0l.
5. yes. (♥ω♥ ) ~♪ there is a great affection between the two women, and they’ll always be friends. in turn, Cassandra knows the fabled deeds of the Emerald Knight Brocair, from whom Gryff’s name preserves her descent. its a love story for the ages tbh.
wew! there we go
