Obsessed with that scene in the brick when Montparnasse makes the mistake of trying to attack Valjean. Not only is it a little funny because imagine attacking a guy and he just lectures you about it, but it’s also kind of intense and sad because Valjean got real specific during that lecture. This isn’t just a slap on the wrist, this is pages and pages of Valjean backstory. Whenever I read this scene it makes me so nervous because he has been so so careful all this time and now he’s just telling nearly everything to this fucking teenager.

— What did you just ask me? Didn't you say you knew? I knew? You mean the bus? There is no direct bus around here. We can only take the subway. Then why did you say you knew? I wasn't paying attention to what you were saying.
"So what do they give you this Order for?" said Austin Grey. "Fornication?" And hooking his fingers beneath it, he ripped the sash from Lymond's shoulder. The little glove also pinned there fell with it.
"With my wife?" said Francis Crawford.
Checkmate, oh Checkmate...
(the glove falls off before their brief fight, but Austin is the enemy, isn't he? "Do you keep it, M. Crawford. For someone truly dangerous.")
This entire scene got tears in my eyes. It's the way she tells them all--so matter-of-fact, but with an unmistakable love beyond every word. Like she's completely made her peace with it. Suletta's still trying to move forward, but now she's not as desperate for her mother's affection, because she knows why it won't come? Maybe just knowing is enough. She still loves her mother. But she knows her mother's feelings towards her are much more complicated.
"When you wake, it will be back in our camp, back in our small, dirty, bloody patch of existence. But stay with me now. There are endless worlds out there. Countless ways to declare love. Infinite ways to express it. Too much for one night… but we shall try."
