Okay, but having spent a few hours Friday morning fiddling with holiday date-calculation algorithms in JavaScript (I program corporate phone systems), I’m pretty sure that anyone who can tell you when Easter 2030 is without having googled “table of Easter dates by year” is either a wizard, or absolutely full of shit.
Because seriously, what the fuck.

Hi!! I wanted to say that I loved reading about your journey of creating a personal website. I'm still unsure between Vercel and Netlify. I have a small question to ask. See, one of the reasons I want to make a website is to archive drawings and journal/sketchbook. Would you have any tips for creating an area on my website just for the diary/journal, which has tags, files for each entry, etc.?
Bello!
Tumblr media
Really happy to hear about your interest in websites! I want everyone to make their own site so I don't have to log into social media and get instant tummyaches ♥
Vercel vs Netlify: I think I settled on Vercel for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I just made a site on Netlify, then tested on Vercel, and now I have like 5 websites on Vercel so I just kept using it LOL. I'm sure a more tech-savvy person would know the difference - I think they have certain integrations with specific programs.
Creating a diary or journal with tags:
There's a couple of different ways you can do that, with different levels of work needed.
you got me yapping again:
This sadgrl tutorial might be outdated and may or may not work, but explains the process better than I can.
Easiest: make a journal on Dreamwidth, or another blogging site (wordpress??) that allows easy tags and RSS feed, and embed that RSS feed onto your site.
This requires almost no HTML set-up, and the easiest to organize tags, but you don't truly have the data on your own site since it's just embedded.
When I snuck into a web design class at college, this was one of the methods that the professor used for a blog within a portfolio site LOL.
Shit like wordpress is what a LOT of ~professional~ sites do for their blog section. They code it separately from the main site haha. It's the most popular thing, but not necessarily the best. And wait til you read on what the CEO of wordpress has been having meltdowns about... he owns tumblr too!
It's made with a tutorial for Neocities if that's what you use.
Medium: Set up zonelets.
It will require some HTML and JS editing, but will help automate making headers/footers for each page of a blog.
I've never used it myself, but I see other people speak highly of it.
HARD FOR ME CUZ I'M A GORILLA: I believe a lot of professional web devs will slap your face with their coding cock until you use a static site generator (SSG) to make your site.
You will need some coding knowledge to set up the tagging system since it doesn't come with it enabled by default. But it's made explicitly to be an alternative to big Static Site Generators which are...
It requires some more intimidating knowledge, because it's a lot of scripts that turn files that are not HTML/CSS/JS into plain HTML.
Also you have to use the command line, and that doesn't come with buttons that tell you what you can do. You have to copy/paste all that shit or memorize the code to 'dev build astro' and it all looks silly.
I've used Eleventy, and now am using Astro. Other people use Hugo or Jekyll or some other stuff with crazy names like Glup Shitto. I hate all these sites cuz none of the words mean anything to me. This is a common theme for me and tech. I don't know what NODES or CONTENT or ISLANDS are!!!
I had the most success attempting to learn how to use a SSG by downloading a template and altering it with github + VScodium. Here's the template page for Astro. You click on a theme you like, and it takes you to its github page. (If you don't want to use evil Microsoft stuff sorry. Skip this entire section.) Follow the instructions on the page for "forking" the glup shitto. When it tells you to run commands, I run those commands through the terminal window in VScodium. These tutorials never tell you what these commands do cuz they assume you already know. Usually those commands automatically install the files you need onto your computer, and create the final files.
You can see my wip here for a "tag system" that SHOULD show members of a web listing haha but I don't know what I'm doing and I have a reading disorder AND don't know cumputer good.
THEORETICALLY this will be the simplest and easiest way to maintain tags and files, because after you set it up you just have to write the "content" of the blog page. And you don't have to set up the header/footer ever again. I see the vision, and potential, but I am not there yet when it takes me 5 hours a day to figure out what any of the words in the documentation mean and I don't want to ask an actual tech person cuz they will be like 'obviously just press the Blip on the Repository and then Suck My Ass in the command line".
(side note I haven't updated fujofans in like a year cuz I'm struggling with this part to make updating easier).
Con: the final HTML/CSS code is really ugly if it's "minified", and a lot of themes use """"""professional"""""" CSS libraries like Bootstrap and Tailwind that I honestly think are ugly cuz that's what every fuckin' tech website uses to style their pages and make them look Professional and Minimalist with stupid code like style="500-w dark-gray-balls D-cup-bra" on every single element. Even Toyhouse uses Bootstrap. Eugh!
But maybe you're smarter than me and can wrangle these things better!
That was really long. Woops. I hope you can slug through this wall of text and find something helpful. Feel free to email me if you have any more specific questions. I may or may not be helpful.
If someone else sees this and has better suggestions for making BLOGS, please chime in. I'm begging you.

Out of curiousity, what would putting a website on piermesh be like / entail...?
If the regular web can be accessed as well, how is a piermesh-specific site different?
Apologies if I'm misunderstanding, I'm only just getting into programming / web dev :]
First, just for anyone interested: a site on PierMesh is called a Catch for themeing reasons
More to the point, at the moment putting a website on PierMesh is just:
Make sure all your content is inlined to one html page
Copy paste the code into the web client
Sharing the link to your page
The difference between a regular site and a PierMesh site at the moment to a normal web dev is mainly that you have more freedom in setting your link (any utf-8 characters are allowed) and that we ask that PierMesh sites be lightweight. But there's a lot more coming, WASM (WebAssembly) based site logic enabling Rust and Python based sites, cdn like site duplication across (operator*) nodes for faster access and distributed indexing to name a few. Also typically a PierMesh site will load faster, maintain more features and will be more reliable on PierMesh then a normal site because the Hopper/proxying functionality just scrapes the page and provides that to you (though it does automatically inline some content) which can be heavy on the PierMesh network and have buggy JS interactions depending on the site.
Tumblr refuses to let me start a line with an asterisk without turning it into a bullet point so the detail here on the operator note is that operator nodes are intended to be more static, higher throughput nodes as opposed to a single user setup.
Thanks for the question, let me know if you have any follow ups

So i was thinking stuff for my fic
Sour Bill
Is he a villain? I think it's more complicated than that
the dude knew KingCandy removed Venellope node + locked their memories. Did he believe he was the game ruler when he proclaimed so at him? Naaah SourBill knew he was full of shit
How can u trust someone you just saw locking up your memories.
Then why serve him?
In my opinion SourBill thinks like this "i know u are a liar, but i cant do anything about it, yeah fuck it u are the king! I guess this is my job now to serve u! Ugggghh" he is the kind of guy to complain about everything that annoys him but do nothing about it
Rewatching his scenes the guy looks like he tunes out 50% of what KingCandy says "yup just keep noddin SourBill to whatever the fuck he is saying".
U see him lookin at the ruler face like "ok he is shouting he js angry... should i make an angry face too? Oh angry at ralph so i guess i need to glare at the guy got it".
he is so surprised when kingcandy slams stuff or marches away like, that just woke him up and now he needs to run towards the king as to not be left behind.
What about that time he trapdoored Felix? He probably did that thinking not doing it would have generated more work for him in the end.
No i will not confess the secrets to ralph. KingCandy is so obnoxious when he js angry and- ok ok fuck it im not paid enough for this here're the secrets... wait... im not gwtting paid here at all!
He is not *actively* evil. He just enabled KingCandy by not reacting. He is like awful neutral?
But look at this face. Can u reeeeaaally be mad at him?

After the encounter with Spencer in the basement, he and I spent more time together and I actually earned TV privileges something about me being "a good girl" as he put it. With said privileges Spencer and I had watched the entire Friday the 13th franchise.... multiple times. During one of these summer camp nightmare rewatchings I had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room.
I woke up 3:33am the clock read. I noticed Spencer wasn't sitting next to me any more, I stood up stretching and looking around the small living room. I shrug and turn off the TV leveling me inm darkness but not complete darkness, I noticed light, very little light coming from the door that lead to the basement.
I debte gotinmg down the steps but curiosity got the best of me and I opened the door and decided the stairs. I reach the bottom of the stairs i hear what i dreaded most, screams of another panicked victim.
I rounded the corner "Spencer?" I ask rubbing my eyes still not fully awake. Spencer turned and again he's wearing the wig and make-up. "Oh love did we wake you?" I walk over to him surprisingly this time not fearing him, and I hug him and press a soft kiss to Spencers lipgloss coated lips. I pull away and let my arms loosely drape around his neck. "No Hun I woke up on my own." I reasured lightly stroking his blonde wig, before I bring my hand to cup his cheek. Spencer leans into my touch. Out of the corner of my eye I see the new man tied to the chair rocking back and forth to try to Ecape. I drop my hand from Spencers face and face the man in the chair. Spencer followed my gaze and sighed. "Oh love I'm sorry but I have some business to attend...." Before he could finish his sentence I cut him off. " What did he do?" Spencer looks at me wide eyed. "Come on Spencer I'm a big girl I can handle it"
Spencer finally responded "he's a serial rapist and killer, he's hurt many women and men and their families. The world would be better without him." I noded turning to leave before a thought hit me "Spence can I do it?" I get another bewildered look out of my lovers face. "Babe come on give me the knife." I smirk putting my hands on my hips. "I love it when you call me that" Spencer smiles handing me the knife in his hand. I take it and kiss his cheek. I turn back to our guest of honor. I walk over to the captive man and lightly graze his skin with the blade.
"So you like preying on innocent people don't you?" He mumbles something but with the tape over his mouth nothing much is heard clearly. I plugged the knife deep in to his right thigh. "AWNSER ME!" I scream. The man nods his head as tears stream down his face. "Well you just sealed your fate right there buddy!" I giggle loudly. The man's eyes go wide and more muffled screams and yells are heard as I lift the knife and stab the man in the chest repeatedly until I can't hear cant hear his screams anymore. I breathe heavily and realize the wet sticky feeling of blood on my face as I collapse to the floor. I feel a hand on my shoulder and I jumped a little, oh Spencer I forgot he was there.
I look up at him. He has a wide smile on his face andhe bends down and presses hard and heated kiss to my lips. I kiss back. Spencer brakes the kiss "you did amazing my love" he kisees my lips softly this time. "Yah seems like you enjoyed watching." I smirk observing the tent in his pants. Spencer pulls his wig off and picks me up bride style and quickly makes his way to our room.
As soon as we make it to the room I'm thrown in the bed
I make quick work of my bloody shirt and pajama shorts, and Spencer dose the same with his sweat pants he was wearing. After we're both undressed Spencer is immediately kissing and biting my neck. I moan his name almost like a prayer.
I flip us so Spencer is on his back and I am straddleing his hips. I grind my wet core on his hard length. We moan in unison. I continue grinding on Spencer until I reach down and align him with my entrance. and sink down on his cock. "Fuck Spence your so big!" I moan and I begin bouncing up and down in his dick. The more I bounce the faster I move. My legs began to shake as I feel my orgasm build up. "Fuck Spence I'm gonna..." I cum all over his cock and soon after I ride out my high Spencer cums in me. I rest my head in the crook of his neck and catch my breath. Once I do I hear Spencer laugh. "What?" I ask. "Love your still covered in that guys blood." I look at Spencer and sure enough there are bloody hand prints covering his face and chest, along with his smudged make-up. I laughed and kissed him.

i want to keep tumblr because i like aesthetics
aesthetic aggregation is important because it allows for intimate relationships to develop outside of life-long domesticated-servile contracts
you transfer
love energy,
actually, when you share your aesthetic, and merge, like that
however
i don't think its possible to make organic relationships the same way it was a decade ago, no, entirely too sanitized
i highly doubt, since the algorithm that i'll ever oganically run into; actually its absurd to even finish that sentence
luckily, i became a sysadmin / programmer, in the interem period, and can actually build the tools this time around
i have an idea for an aesthetic aggregator portal place that combines dump.fm & tumblr with cellular automata, like a living pool you gaze into and everything's a ripple on a wave, man, that's like connected, woah
and i'm schemeing on it, i love lisp, when i go looking everything i want to do is available to me like channeling a spell... somebody already wrote scheme to wasm, that really shouldn't be too hard... still looking for alternate ways to chat :D hmu on xmpp it's exactly like AIM
i've tried node/npm, python, package managers... the best most satisfying one if you're going to go and install a big library, blob thing like that, is probably some flavor of emacs... for me, this is a personal preference, the fact that you 'can' do anything that rust/python/go/js can do in LISP... is enough for me, because, it is elegant, it is more pleasant to look at and easier to read, idk. loving my time with it recently and have been knocking it out of the park most days recently... the past 7 years i've been working on a top secret project, which will have a working alpha demo of the basic features by the end of next week :D
the best os rn is a freeBSD jail with guixSD GNU/linux-libre there's also hyperbola/BSD in the works you want to try to phase out the linux kernel because of all the google/microsoft shenanigans creeping in, you don't need unix/linux any more you can do all your daily driver stuff on an embedded, low power risc soc that costs under a hundo you need less overhead for embedded systems, there's microkernels like genome, and platforms like zephyr, its ok to move away idk one thing i learned its good to take a step back and look at the scope of what you're trying to achieve, try to strip away all the unneccessary parts... a mhz is 1,000,000 calculations a microsecond or whatever, when you sit down and write a piece of code how many calculations exactly do you need to do to do your business, honestly.
^these are the 3 am ramblings of a minimalist
i'm trying to find peers here on my site that's connected to the internet that's why i'm sending messages to it about my interests, pardon me, sir please send $1 to this address

10/09/2023 || Day 78
Horoscope Generator - Log #3
Y'all, this project's hard. Ran into multiple problems with it but I'm slowly solving them.
Problem 1: How to send information from the backend to the frontend, and get React to display that information once it's received without refreshing the page. I did this using a bunch of useEffect hooks. The first main one is to monitor the status and changes of my userSign variable, which is set once the use clicks on a button corresponding to their zodiac sign.
Tumblr media
Doing this sends the sign to the backend, which will then do some magic to get that specific sign's daily horoscope (right now, it's just sending a basic testing message). Now we need to actually tackle the problem where now the backend has data I want to send to the frontend, and again we're gonna use the useEffect hook in React. First thing's first though, we need to send that data, and we do that using Node JS and Express JS. I check to see if there are actual values for both the sign and the resulting horoscope, and if so send it forward.
Tumblr media
On the frontend side React will GET the data if both conditions listed below are met, ensuring that I'm only making an API call when I have all the information I need to get a proper answer.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the easy part; displaying the message: the App component will check the conditions and if they're met will display the message from the api call.
Tumblr media
The other problems I'm running into are more trivial but still super annoying.
Problem 2: Find an api that will give me the daily horoscope for a specific/given sign. All the ones I've found are either paid, or that specific service doesn't work. I actually managed to find a free api that does exactly what I want, but it's only available in Portuguese. Now, I don't speak Portuguese, so this leads into problem 3...
Problem 3: Find a free api that'll translate from a given language to English. I spent a lot of time looking for one and dear god are they hard to find. I managed to find a random one that isn't always 100% accurate, but I'm ok with that. The problem now is that it has a 5,000 character/day limit, so I'll need to come up with a method to simply get all the sign's horoscope for the day and translate it at once, then send it to the frontend to sort through that...
Anyways, those have been my struggles with this project, but here's a small video showing that the information is being sent from the frontend to the backend, and then to the frontend again. In a few days it'll actually have the proper messages, trust me.

100 days of code - day 11
Hi, today I didn't study rust, today I studied JavaScript. Well, I was thinking with myself, I need to finish that full stack course that I started a while ago. Because I never finish what I begin. So I'm going to focus on it a little more. To be honest, I should've taken this decision before. But I want to continue to study rust every day, a little at least.
So, I set my all the node development environment and started to code. I already know a little of JS, but I'm not too comfortable as I'm with C/C++, so I need to practice more.
Also, I was seeing that I know git, but only the basis, like commit, push, pull, and I'm not too used to use commands like branch, merge, rebase, checkout, etc. I've already used them, but since I'm not constantly branching, I have forgotten. So I'm practicing these git commands and git good practices as well.
That's it. Sometimes I feel a little lost, because programming has so many paths to choose from. It can give me a little anxiety, but, as long as I'm studying, progressing, and not paralyzed, I think it's ok.

My Dev VM
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those interested, this is what my dev machine looks like. Debian 12 + Cinnamon Desktop running inside of Virtual Box
The wallpaper is one I found on DA, but from what I can tell I don't think that the uploader was the original artist, especially after looking through the uploader's gallery. I have tried to find the original to no avail (TinEye, Lens, etc), so if someone finds the original artist I'd be more than grateful (and willing to shoot a few pounds their way cuz this piece is amazing)
Outside of that, I use VSCode most of the time on Linux, Komodo Edit (RIP T^T) on Windows, Beekeeper for SQL (database stuff) on Linux and Heidi on Windows, and Bash on Linux and Powershell on Windows for terminal/scripting.
For languages, it changes between three, Node/JS for web apps, C# for the majority of game and Windows stuff, and Elixir/Erlang (Oh look my MD OC's last name) for more random stuff cuz I'm trying to learn it.
So yea, thats my nerdy infodump for the moment, I do still create random website designs in my downtime after work but more often than not, I just play copious amounts of Trackmania and FFXIV.

today in questionable development decisions,
i have finished a site entirely* in godot, and it's now live right where my questionable web decisions have always been!
(*it's still hosted via JS bc apparently there's some really jank shit going on with godot 4 html exports and i am too attached to the features to backport it all to 3 (i tried))
Tumblr media
anyway! this is the product probably a year of overthinking > cutting the scope down > overthinking again loop, as well as how i finally got out of creative block, so i'm pretty darn happy with it even with the bugs (like how it doesn't like to resize and i currently dunno how to send keyboard shortcuts like f5 and f12 to the browser when focused on the game area)
might still end up porting it over to JS if maintaining it becomes problematic, since i believe currently there's a file size issue specifically with the shared array buffer in firefox, my beloved browser, and if it can't work in that then what's the point?
either way, i kinda despise prototyping that goes from a sketch or static graphic straight to code, so even if i do jump right to JS for future builds (which is conveniently very easy since i am using the same node based implementation from before), i know exactly what i'm happy with and only need to make it work in JS.

Node.js Server-Side JavaScript – What is Node Used For?
Developers can run JavaScript code at the server with Node.Js, an open supply JavaScript runtime environment.
If you find it to be too complex to understand, bear in mind it this way: JavaScript that runs at the server rather than within the browser is known as Node.Js.
