Imagine if you were a gay or bi man who tried a certain firefighter show because of all the attention it was getting for one of its mains having a later in life bi awakening.....and between seasons you ventured into its fandom in search of material to tide you over til the next one. And you're greeted by a deluge of posts and fics that are just cheerfully homophobic towards one half of the newly out bi character's canon relationship on the basis of 'well he's not the RIGHT gay guy' and pushing the idea that actually its fine to cheat on him because Reasons and he's sexually predacious based on......behind the scenes implications people have divined like they're reading fucking tea leaves.

But don't get it twisted....this fandom, like all fandoms, really cares about representation!

Sorry not sorry, but we really need to kill this idea that fandoms are welcoming and inviting and inherently progressive when they're frequently insular and reductive as fuck. Every single fandom I've been in has had major trends of people doubling down on their own headcanons and fanon interpretations of the characters and willfully enacting trends aimed at running off people who like the 'wrong' characters (usually characters marginalized along one or multiple axes), like the characters in the 'wrong ways' or other bullshit.

Scott is a Bad Friend fics overtaking Teen Wolf fandom was not incidental, it was a FEATURE of the fandom, because the vast majority of that fandom did not want to share its space with anyone who had the nerve to like its main character. Survivors complaining about or criticizing the prevalance of rape fics in a certain fandom has in my experience always led to a reactionary UPTICK in those fics, with gems like 'this character can, will, must be raped' in the tags making it crystal clear that some of these fics exist because how fucking DARE anyone try and push forth a narrative not agreed upon by Fandom Main.

I could cite examples for so many other fandoms, with the commonalities always being that vast majorities in these fandoms are explicitly reacting defensively to being asked to be more mindful of fandom trends revolving around or exacerbating racism, homophobia, transphobia, rape or abuse apologia, ableism, etc....

With the most prolific fucking rallying cry across countless fandoms being "No the fuck we will NOT be doing that," because lolololol.....

I think I figured out why "anti-zionism isn't antisemitism" bothers me so much for something I agree with.

Israeli Jews need a place to go. I feel like a lot of the anti-zionists sharing their opinions forget this fact. We can't just say, "You have to leave Israel, but you can't go anywhere else either." That's a recipe for a new Jewish genocide if I've ever heard one.

With the rise in hate for Israel, a part of Jewish history, and the rise in antisemitism in general, a lot of Jews don't feel safe in their neighborhoods. I've heard many talk about making Aliyah, aka moving to Israel, to be safer. Frankly, I don't feel safe. I live down the road from a place that was shot up less than a decade ago, and now antisemitism is rising.

There are anti-zionists trying to shut down Jewish run businesses. If they can't make their living when they live now, where do you think those businesses are gonna go? Many menorah lightings have been canceled. If they can't celebrate their religion safely, where do you think the Jews in those areas are gonna go?

To them, there's only one possible answer: Israel.

This is where zionism comes from. This is why people move to Israel.

If you're anti-zionist, the best thing you can do for Palestine is be kind to your Jewish neighbors. Make them feel safe and welcome. Because if they don't, they'll go someplace where they do feel safe and welcome: Israel.

my understanding is some quackity fans on twitter have been really awful to other creators and fans because of the current admin issues, particularly the french (and baghera specifically) for speaking out on behalf of the admins as well as brazilian fans (since some brazilian admins came forward, and brazilian fans are supporting baghera and the rest of the french) once again. so some people are moving over, i think both fans being impacted by the harassment & xenophobia as well as quackity fans who don't want to be involved in treating people like that. i'm not super aware of the details myself so this is all i know

But she’s been made the scapegoat and now people will think she made him say this and it won’t matter will it? I doubted it before but looking at everything coming out, it feels like someone has wanted MHJ out of Hybe for a long time. First they tried to use public opinion turning against her with the pedo scandal to do it, but it didn’t work because Hybe supported her. So now they are attacking her from within Hybe itself, using her caustic abrasive narssistic reputation to paint a character profile of a backstabbing greedy SM bitch who wants to pull another 50-50 even though MHJ herself has said in the wake of such glaring failures of both SM and 50-50, its stupid to think she’d attempt the same so soon. I work in investment banking and this feels like an inside hit job from everything I’ve seen. It’s sad. If she leaves will there be any more top women at Hybe? Nicole left Hybe recently to go to Columbia after almost 7 years as A&R for BigHit, Adora left Hybe after almost 9 years to do her own solo career outside of Hybe. Sometimes i wonder why those women left after all the investment they made into the company, of its because they weren’t given more real support to advance to more independent or autonomous roles. All three women: Min Hee Jin, Adora, and Nicole were hired when Bang PD was in charge, but now that other men are calling shots at Hybe and it’s a more big chaebol corporate structure, all these women are either leaving or in the case of MHJ, attacked and left little choice but to leave.

i know this is giving conspiracy BPP, and i hate it. Maybe I’m projecting my own trauma from work into the situation. But this new VP L statement just triggered it for me. Something about this scandal smells very very wrong. I just hope the outcome for NewJeans is the best one.

What I hate about all this is I can't even find the content I want to see here anymore. I hate blocking people that aren't spam bots, but these Twitter stans have tried my patience. Like I'm cool with whatever interpretation, but when I come to a tag that is supposed to be curated with specific takes, that's what I want and expect to see. Not all this tsundere best grape jiujiu meow meow stuff. That's what the general tag is for.

Just because the word canon is in the tag name it doesn't make the take more valid lmao. It's a search category with a passive aggressive name because the people that made it were harassed out of the general tag. They deserved the snark for essentially being kicked out of the character tag. Plus it made it easier to search out novel specific posts, so to me it was a win/win

And I just shake my head at these people trying to "reclaim" the tag and telling the fans that made it to go make a new tag again. Hey Twitter stans, why don't you make your own tag called "actual canon Jiang Cheng" or whatever if it means that much to you. The tag name doesn't automatically make you any more correct or incorrect. Right now all you're doing is ruining people's ability to curate their content.

And really you make yourselves look like idiotic assholes who lack critical thinking skills and try to cover up that fact by harassing the people that inform you of the above, and enticing a mob mentally to try to get your way. (Which given the content of the source material...)

As most people already know, Twitter has been banned in my country recently by our Supreme Court, and using a VPN to access the site is out of the question as it could result in a 50k BRL fine to whoever is caught doing it.

Sounds extreme but I actually support this decision because all of it started with Musk's denial in banning accounts that promoted criminal activity and our Supreme Court doesn't really fuck around and find out later; legislation does work in Brazil.

Following that decision, we all migrated to bsky and if your timeline feels a little emptier, that's why; believe me when I say we are everywhere - a massive number of daily and fan accounts were run by brazilians and we always interacted with posts from our favorite foreign creators.

Ngl, bsky is being a nice experience! I'm quite liking it there, the tags actually work, I actually see the posts from people I follow, it's been such a good detox experience tbh.

The only things I'm missing are the folks I forcibly had to leave behind, I won't ever forget all the nice comments and love my art got there, especially my rarepair posts. I also miss all the amazing Japanese artists and cosplayers I used to follow there, not many have a bsky account... 😔

Before leaving, I left my bsky handle on my Twitter display name in case anyone feels like following me there; I also left some tweets explaining that I won't be able to keep posting there in case the ban isn't temporary, one of them is pinned too.
