WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Best-selling “pulp” thriller author Clive Cussler’s most popular creation, former Navy SEAL-turned-marine engineer for NUMA (the National Underwater & Marine Agency) Dirk Pitt, is brought to the big screen for the second time (after 1980’s Raise the Titanic).  This time we follow Pitt (McConaughey) and his best friend/fellow ex-SEAL Al Giordino (Zahn) as they accompany WHO doctors Eva Rojas (Cruz) and Frank Hopper (Turman) into the beleaguered African nation of Mali, currently under the brutal control of newly-installed warlord General Kazim (James), on a two-pronged mission – finally satisfy Pitt’s long-held obsession about an American Civil War-era Ironclad battleship he believes is buried somewhere in the African wilds (seriously), and discover (and hopefully stop) the source of a potentially devastating new biological outbreak.
WHY IT’S LOST: Paramount clearly wanted a new Boy’s Own action franchise that could plug the long-empty gap left in the absence of their heavyweight Indiana Jones saga, and clearly felt that Cussler’s immensely popular, long-running Dirk Pitt series could provide a strong foundation for them to build on. It could have worked, there were strong factors in place to make it a hit, which is why it’s so frustrating that the film tanked SO HARD on its release.  Ultimately earning just $69 million against a production budget of $160 mil (and that’s not even counting the further tens of millions spent on advertising and distribution), Sahara has been listed as one of the most expensive flops of all time, which, together with a consistently poor critical reception, meant the comprehensive death of any hopes for a sequel, never mind a future franchise.  Which is a genuine pity …
WHY YOU SHOULD DISCOVER IT:  … because I really loved this movie right from the start.  I’ll admit I’ve never read any of Cussler’s books, even off the back of seeing this (although I’ve always intended to), but going off of what I saw here I would definitely have been game for more – in the hands of Matthew McConaughey, Dirk Pitt is a fantastic action hero, athletic, gritty and adventurous, sharp-witted, intelligent and VERY easy on the eyes, a sculpted alpha male without the slightest hint of toxic masculinity. That said, the greatest pleasure to be found in this film has to be Steve Zahn, who invests Al with just the right kind of wiseass self-deprecating charm to tip the balance in favour of lovable goofball rather than irritating stock comic relief – Zahn is a consistent joy throughout, bagging all the best lines to become the perfect vehicle for the film’s frequently riotous sense of humour, but also proving surprisingly talented in the film’s significant action stakes, Eva, meanwhile, could have been a painful throwback to the bad old days of the “classic” damsel in distress, but in the hands of Penélope Cruz (and screenwriter James Hart, probably best known for other adaptations like Hook, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Contact) she’s a tough, independent lady who (for the most part) doesn’t need Dirk to save the day for her, and saves HIS arse instead on more than one occasion. There’s even a strong line in villains on offer here – Snatch star Lennie James impresses as a sociopathic dictator with delusions of grandeur, while The Matrix trilogy’s Lambert Wilson is enjoyably oily as corrupt tycoon Yves Massarde – while there’s strong support from Delroy Lindo as sneaky CIA operative “Carl”, Glynn Turman as Eva’s friend and mentor Frank, and relative unknown Paulin Fudouop as Tuareg rebel leader Modibo, and it would have been great fun getting to see William H. Macy and Rainn Wilson return in future films as NUMA director Admiral James Sandecker and fan favourite scientist Rudi Gunn.  Director Breck Eisner has had a pretty rocky filmmaking career over the years – with the exception of his most well-regarded film, the acclaimed remake of George Romero’s The Crazies, his work has largely been overlooked or derided, from straight-to-video debut Thoughtcrimes to his (also criminally underrated) most recent feature The Last Witch Hunter, while he’s been dumped from a long line of potential hit projects such as Ouija and Flash Gordon – so this one could perhaps be considered par for the course, but this has always been my favourite of his films, a solid little action thriller with just the right combination of elements to create a thoroughly entertaining rollercoaster ride.  Eisner excelled on all fronts throughout – the action sequences are first rate, particularly Dirk’s knuckle-whitening fight with a nameless thug on top of a ridiculously tall tower and a brilliantly overblown river-set boat chase, while the drama/humour balance is set JUST RIGHT, the characters are all thoroughly well-rounded and the script sufficiently inventive that this doesn’t come off as just another Indiana Jones rip-off, while the suitably adventurous score from Moon and The Fountain composer Clint Mansell is the icing on a very rich and satisfying cake indeed.  Altogether this deserved to be a HIT, and it’s a genuine crime that we were denied the long-running franchise this should have kicked off …

Beckett x Maeve Fluff ABC: Part 1(A-H,K,L,N-P)
This is only first part of Fluff ABC, here are included letters that already completed, still left some to write, so Part 2 will be later in the week. I hope you will like this, what I got for Beckett and Maeve.

A – Anger (What was their first fight about? Any big or recurring arguments?)
- Maeve, can you please stop, - shouted Beckett after his wife, quickly following her, and catching up only at the elevator when doors got already opened. He gently grabbed her arm and turned her around to face him, - This is not what you think it is, - he said softly watching her earthy warm eyes, becoming cold and her breath quickened, she pulled out her hand.
- And what do you think I thought? - he could feel her blood boiled with anger and her hand reached for the elevator button frantically pressing it again and again.
- Please, let me at least explain, - he asked her with panic rising in his voice, looking at his pregnant wife, her eyes filled with tears.
- You have ten minutes, - she whispered, casting her eyes aside, letting him lead her to the nearest empty room. She can hear the click of the closing door behind them, but not turning to face him waiting when he will start his explanation.
- I didn’t know she was hired to work here… When I have saw her resume, I even didn’t know it was her, but she was perfectly suitable for the work…
- Yes, I have an idea of HOW suitable for the work she can be in this fuck me dress and Plexi-glass heels, that would make any man hard in his pants, - she muttered, her arms crossed in front of her, - Don’t even dare to come near me, - she warned him, throwing lightnings with her eyes.
- Mae, what you have seen in there…, - he inhaled sharply, watching her eyes getting black and knowing that he has exactly a minute left to explain, - it’s not what it seems it is. She just stumbled on her stupid heels and somehow got onto my laps… I told you already, you are the only one for me, you are the only girl who ever mattered. Why would I want to lose it?
- Then why did you kiss her, - Maeve’s voice was barely above the whisper, the tears streaming down her face and her heart ached inside her chest.
- I didn’t…. whatever you saw or you think you saw was her way to get back together. I swear she is nothing to me… Just say a word and she will be gone from our lives by tomorrow and will never come back. Just say a word and I will do this. But please don’t look at me this way and don’t run away from me ever again, - she looked intently in his eyes feeling the warmth washing over her, seeing the truth in his eyes.
- I believe you and you can leave her for now, - she narrowed her eyes continuing speaking,- but later we go into your office and you fuck me on your table and I will ride you wild like a riding horse, - she inched toward him, her hands tugging him by his tie for the fervent kiss.
- But…,- started Beckett hesitantly glancing at her pregnant belly.
-No, but, - she murmured, - Or do you want to argue again? - she narrowed her eyes, which again burned with fire forcing him to capitulate.
B – Best (What would they say is the other’s best trait?)
Beckett can go on and on about Maeve’s best traits. To name few: her forgiveness, gentleness, kindness, understanding and so on and so on. He loves basically everything in her. When he got to know Maeve better he was swooned by the way how loyal she was to her friends, family and to something she truly believed in. When she stayed by his side refusing to leave him in his fight with his mother he knew, that all future battles they will fight together no matter how difficult it may become.
In the same time Maeve can do the same with Beckett’s best traits. To name few traits that she loves in him are: loyalty, responsibility, compassion, courageousness and his kindness. Also Maeve is proud of how determined Beckett gets when it comes to fulfilling his goals, never giving up without a fight. He is ready to fight through obstacles that are met on his way, but also he will always remain faithful to himself without trying to adapt to something that will go against his own believes. Another thing Maeve is proud in Beckett, is how soft he becomes around her and their children, wanting to be there for them. He always was there for her to help rising them and this was not just playing with them or teaching them magick, but also do night diaper change duties, give a bath, feed them or simply wake up in the middle of the night just to comfort them. And the way how he always put their family first, made her fall in love with him over and over again.
C – Camera (How do they document their relationships? Who likes to take pictures? Or videos?)
Maeve always loved to take pictures be it a nature or people. Every time she took out her dad’s old camera she tried to create a story like in old movies or picture a sincere emotions the one that cannot be faked. She loved to pick up little moments and smiles, happiness and sadness. She was the first who started to document their relationships and their friends. When their first baby was born she was the one who took a picture or video of achieved milestones and till one year of age she tried to picture every day of their baby, be it sad or happy. She always was behind the camera, trying to take a picture of Beckett and their children rarely appearing on this photos. She never got tired of memorise their life on the old photo film making them immortal through the camera. The only time she stopped doing what always was her quiet haven was when they broke up, this hurt her so badly, that the pictures of them or the camera itself made this pain only bigger and her loneliness even more noticeable. And so her camera was hidden and forgotten in the Prendergast just to be found one day and returned to her.
As for Beckett, he began to get involved in photography only after seeing Maeve through the camera’s lens. After he seen how her eyes sparkled and the gentle smile touched her lips watching on their peacefully asleep baby girl. After he took this first picture that took his breath away capturing this perfect moment he knew that he wants to do this the rest of their lives.
He laughed quietly, trying not to wake up Alexandra, siting on the edge of Maeve’s hospital bed, pretending to take a picture of her. She giggled and her earthy eyes sparkled with warmth of green, dropping down on their peacefully sleeping baby that sucked on her thumb. This was just an instant, barely a second of observations until Beckett looked through the camera’s lens and what he seen through it knocked the air out of him. His laugh that was ready to bubble on the surface froze inside his throat, his eyes widened and his mouth felt dry. He never seen anything so sincere and beautiful in his life, this perfect moment when the love flash in your eyes and realization hits you that this never will change. Beckett instinctively pushed the button, as he could do nothing else as to take a picture of this moment.
D – Dates (What are their dates like?)
Beckett loves to take Maeve out for a dates be it just a picnic in their favourite spot or some night’s movie session or her favourite band’s concert or three Michelin star restaurant for their Anniversary’s dinner. He always knows how to make his girl to feel special and loved. Even with their busy schedules and with their responsibilities as a parents they still try to find a way to go out on a dates and for a romantic in their relationships. And Beckett always tries to surprise her making her heart to skip a beat before starting to race.
Maeve sat at a large oak table in her small countryside office, equipped especially for her by her husband, so she could focus on her shelter’s administrative work without being interrupted by the running and screaming children. She frowned trying to focus on the papers in front of her, but her thoughts stubbornly were returning to her husband, whom she didn’t seen already for a couple of days due to his extended business trip to France. She sighed, returning her gaze to the papers in front of her trying to focus. But only to be interrupted again, this time by the slight knock on the door. It took her a second to realize that this was Beckett and without a second thought, she run to him wrapping both hands around his neck, knocking the air out of him.
-Hey, - he laughed wrapping his arms securely around her waist and lifting her up, - I’m also happy to see you,- he murmured kissing her gently.
-What are you doing here? I thought… I thought, you will be not until tomorrow, - she frowned trying to figure out what could have happen.
- Are you not happy to see me? – Beckett raised his brow questioningly trying to look hurt and lowering her to the floor stepping back from her, but the soft smile on his lips betrayed him.
- Of course, I’m. I just didn’t expected to see you.
- In this case this is for you, - he said handing her a big fire engine red rose with a nice white reverse on the petals, - his lips barely touching her earlobe and his hot breath caressing her sensitive skin behind the ear,- this rose made all its way from the France, and symbolis my genuine and unwavering love for you, - his voice barely above the whisper, gently tucking a strand of hair behind the ear.
- Beckett, - whispered Maeve turning her head to meet his lips loosing herself in unhurried and gentle kiss, savouring every second, intensifying it, before driving apart.
- Are you very busy or can we spend today’s evening just the two of us? I have planned something, - murmured Beckett brushing his thumb sensually over Maeve’s swollen lips, his eyes not leaving them and his lips parted, noticing uncertainty in her eyes and the way she swallowed hard. He continued, his voice barely audible, hoarse, his lips almost touching hers, and his fingertips lifting her by the chin to meet her eyes, - Don’t worry about kids. Katrina will watch them today. Please, come with me. Will you? - he can see her nod, small smile playing on her lips, when his hand takes hers he almost growled from a sensation wanting nothing else than to pin her to the wall and have his way with her. He closes his eyes breathing deeply, trying to calm his nerves, thinking of what he has planned for them. He thinks about quiet evening under the stars, watching her favorite Hitchcock’s movie Notorious, in his old Rolls-Royce in drive-in cinema, cuddling her and inhaling her sweet scent of lavender and wildberries. He missed her, but not just her body… he MISSED all of her, her smiles the once that she reserves only for him, the way her eyes changes when he truly manages to surprise her, the way she turns her face away and her cheeks starting to burn the lightest shade of rose. He don’t want this to be quick or rushed today, he truly wants so much more from her, he wants all her emotions to be placed on display, he wants to savour every moment with her, making sure than before he will take her in his old vintage car under the stars she will be truly utterly happy.
E – Early (What was the first month of dating like?)
Their first month of dating was mostly the time of stolen kisses and moments. This was so hard to hide what they felt for each other and it got even harder after amount of times Beckett fall asleep in Maeve’s room. They didn’t wanted this to be rashed, but every time he fall asleep with her, in the mornings he felt how his throbbing member reminded him furiously that he isn’t made from steel. But with her nightmares progressing he didn’t wanted to leave her side either, making sure that before he do she is soundly and peacefully asleep. He held her in his arms, calming her and kissing her gently not requiring nothing in return. Despite the fact that no one knew that they were dating he still managed to surprise her either this was a midnight date in the Roost or some lustrous brilliance flower that will perfectly suited to her honey coloured hairs.
F – Friends (How is their relationship with each other’s group of friends?)
Maeve is easy going person like a ray of sunshine so she easily gets together with new people and make friends. While Beckett is more reserved, coming up as broody and rude. The main reason for this is that for him it is really difficult to open up to someone because of his family. He never could know, if this person will be someone whom his family would approve or they will make this person disappear from his life, as many times before when he was a child. The only group of friends they interacts with together are PendPals, where Beckett was introduced against his will at first, but got fond of this people who called him friend. Even when he and Maeve were break up they still interacted with him making sure that he is good and reminded him that he is not alone.
Beckett sit on the beach of Aruland watching how his kids play with other kids in the distance, the memory of his own lonely childhood flooding him.
- Mother, why cannot I play with this kids, - asks six years old boy his head bent and eyes fixed meekly to the floor.
- They are attuneless… not worthy of your time, - she cuts sharply ready to walk away.
- But mother…, - he sighed, feeling how hot tears burning his eyes, but holding them back.
- I told you… not worthy of your time… now, go to your room and get to your books, - her eyes dangerously black shoot in boy’s direction making him shiver internally.
- Mother, please…
- I said go to your room. NOW.
- No, - he whispered feeling how his breath hitched in surprise from his own boldness.
-What did you said? - hissed Mrs. Harrington her eyes turning red and flaming in rage.
- No, I don’t want to go to my room and study. I want to go outside and play with other kids.
-G-o-t-o-y-o-u-r-r-o-o-m, - his mother hissed and the air around them felt thick and heavy piercing his skin. Beckett could feel the hot drops of blood falling at his white shirt, his eyes wide in horror, - I told you to listen to me, and if you will not… you have to be teached a lesson.
Beckett flinched, abruptly ripped from the memories, feeling a small gentle hand on his shoulder.
- Hey, Beck. Are you okay? - asked Maeve watching him with concern, siting next to him, intertwining their fingers and putting his head on his shoulder.
- I will be… Just watching our kids made me realize, how much I missed as a child, because of my parents.
- Hey… I know… but now, now you have friends and something that you can be proud of, - watching his questioning glance she smiled nodding to their children direction. Maeve hugged him, feeling him wrapping his hands around her waist pulling her closer to him, happily looking at their children making new friends.
G – Gifts (Do they like giving each other gifts? What kind?)
They both love to give each other gifts, something about seeing the loved one happy makes their happiness even bigger. There is something in their relationships that makes them always pick up something that matters at the moment. Beckett loves to surprise Maeve not only by the big meaningful gifts, but also by some small gestures, but the once that make her love him even more.
He quietly knocked on the door waiting for an answer holding a big parcel in one hand and the huge bouquet of flowers in another. Hearing a quiet reply from the other side of the door he opened it slightly getting in.
- Hey! How are my two most favourite girls feeling today, - he whispered walking closer to the hospital bed and placing a gentle kiss on the top of Maeve’s head, watching their baby girl peacefully asleep in her arms.
- Hey, you, - whispered Maeve turning her head slightly to meet her husband’s eyes, - Sasha just had her breastfeed and fall asleep straight after it, - she chuckled watching tips of Beckett’s ears turning the crimson red, from mentioning of her breasts, - Beckett, it’s really adorable how you blush every time I mention either my breast or feeding our baby with it, but you need to get used to it. My breast will not disappear anywhere and for the next year or year and a half the child will eat it, so you need to get used to it. Now, what in the parcel you are holding, - Maeve sited straighter, with baby still on her arms, biting her lip slightly in curiosity ignoring Beckett’s attempts to object.
- Mae, I just thought you may enjoy doing something what you loved before the baby was born, and something you didn’t done for a very long time, - he whispered sitting on the edge of the bed, the flowers laid on her bedside table. With a trembling in his hands he started slowly unpack the gift, handing her dad’s old camera. His eyes with uncertainty met hers. Surprise, happiness, mistrust of what she sees in front of her flashed through her gaze in an instant, not thinking for too long she wrapped her free hand around his neck, bringing him in for a kiss - I know that this was so long time ago, but I dare to hope that this will still make you happy and will return the piece of your soul that was missing since.
H – Hugs (All things involving hugs)
They both love hugging be it comforting hugs or hugs after they are exhausted after the night of love or hugs while watching a movie. The way their bodies fit together when their arms are entwined around each other inhaling each other scent make them always feel finally home. Hugging is the only way for them to get completely relaxed after a difficult and stressful day, making sure, that not only their bodies and minds are at rest, but also their souls. They love fall asleep holding tightly to each other, lulled by each other’s breathing.
Maeve leaned back into Beckett’s embrace, her back firmly pressed to his chest and his chin nested on the nape of her head. Maeve can feel her eyes fluttering almost flying shut, before opening again to focus on the movie their watched. This was some old movie they picked up without really caring what it was about. Children were put to bed, and they finally have time for themselves, to have a glass of wine with bowl of grapes. Beckett’s hands securely wrapped around her waist, her hands placed on top of his, intertwining their fingers. She could feel how his breathing and the heartbeats calm down lulling her to sleep, feeling her own heartbeats slowing down and eyes flying close.
K – Kiss (How do they kiss? Who usually initiates?)
Their kisses can be slow, gentle and sensual full of love and promises or they can be fervent, passionate and fierce. This always depends on the mood or circumstances in which they kissed. Also sometimes slow, gentle kiss may turn into fervent and passionate. It’s hard to say who initiates the kiss as they kind of just start kissing enjoying every second of this intimacy between them. If in public, Maeve usually the one who initiates the kiss, as Beckett still not used to, to show any form of affection in front of anyone else and it still makes him blush furiously, although after the wedding he became more open to expressing his feelings.
- Hey Beck, - murmured Maeve her eyes darkening, focusing on his lips, - I think you have some chocolate stick in the corner of your lips,- not letting him wipe it out she moved closer to him, her lips brushing his. She kissed him gently, her tongue licking off the chocolate off the corners of his mouth. Despite the fact that it lasted only an instant, he could feel his face becoming burning hot and blush starts to sear through his cheeks. The tips of his ears turning a dark shade of red and he lowered his gaze on his laps, averting his gaze from their laughing friends'  gazes.
L – Love (How do they first say those three words?)
They laughed freely, holding hands and kissing each other, savoring every moment of the remaining of this day, leaving with the last rays of the sun. Beckett gently tucked a golden strand of hair behind Maeve’s ear looking deeply in her eyes. His lips moving closer to hers again, but instead of pressing them to hers he murmured in a hoarse voice:
- Mae, I love you.
- Beck, I… I love you too, - she whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks, but a happy smile played on her parted lips. She remembered how her dad told her his and mum’s love story, that on the back of this restaurant on the glass platform he said to her mum “I love you” for the first time, promising her that they would never part until death part them. So she has never been here, but she knew about this platform and always wished to see this place that meant so much to her parent, - I love you, - she whispered again, placing a sweet kiss to Beckett’s lips. They don’t have particular nicknames or pet names for each other. Occasionally Beckett may call Maeve love or dear wife. Rarely he may call her honey or beautiful. But usually, it is either Maeve or Mae. Sometimes he may call her Mrs. Harrington.
Maeve usually calls Beckett, Beck or Mr. Harrington. But they both never get tired to repeat over and over how much they love each other.

They can eat almost anything unless it contains curry or something very very spicy. The most favorite meals they had are meals prepared at home, and the once they prepared and enjoyed together. For them this always more about spending time together, than about food. But at the same time this helps them, if they don’t have time to prepare their meal, enjoy the food bought from the food van equally to the one prepared by the posh restaurant’s chef.

A few readers out there know me from Facebook. Some know me only for this account. Some of you know me IRL. A few of you have known me since I was five (this is absolutely true). But, today, if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to engage in an experiment. I posted this link on my FB page (with a brief description), however, I failed to describe the circumstances in which I conducted my research. This will be a tale of brain damage, neuroanatomy, orthopedic surgery, canes, and pimps. Yes, you read that last word correctly. If all that seems insane and surreal; well, get used to that.
So, you’ve undoubtedly seen that faux statistic that claims that you only use 10% of your brain. It’s misleading not only because there’s never been a significant study to back it up, but it also ignores how the brain works. As has been noted elsewhere; you only use a small percentage of your keyboard at a time. Why not just save money and order used keyboards that are missing a “z” or “~” key? Similarly, your brain has many, many specialized parts that are carefully coordinated to work together in harmony. You can also think of the brain as a carefully-run network of computers, where information (in this example, a selfie you’re going to have touched up for Match.com)  goes from computer A (in this case, your camera-phone) to computer B to computer C (where a technician fills in all those unattractive, bald, radioactive spots), to a printer. You could, theoretically, torch computer B in this hypothetical, and, as long as Computer C gets wifi. Unless the photographer is experiencing an outage, or he lost it in a craps game. In which case, he’d have to go to a public library or Kinko’s or someplace suitable to receive and modify things. But those are a hassle, and it’s not convenient to plan your life as if you’re going to have to run to a business center at a moment’s notice because you made a bad gamble. Human brains are very similar - there are a few places where science has a good idea what’s happening, some places where no one knows; anything, and everything in between. The point is, just like the photographer in that scenario, it’s possible for the brain - when injured - to develop new ways of sending information from one area to another, although that process is not well-known (and, if a few scientists I know are correct, I do that much, much better than the average human)(which, as it turns out, might just be because I’ll keep growing brain until it kills me). Which is really not here nor there, just that, as frightening as brain damage seems (and it scares the shit out of me), it isn’t necessarily as permanent as we thought twenty years ago.
Now, Tumors #2 and #3 were (are?)(were/are/will be?) were in my right somatosensory cortex (that old thing about the right side of the brain controlling the left side of the body? That’s mostly-accurate; so all my motor deficits are on my left side). The good news is, science has a pretty good idea what does, and it heals well with few flaws and without much help (of course, that was just what the surgeons told me; I didn’t ask about combining surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy; so we’ll all find out, together). Which means that the biggest, most-lastingest side-effect of the latest round of high-powered treatment (by which I mean the surgery, radiotherapy, and 42-straight days of Temodar)(and the Cap serum, can’t forget that). In the week after the latest surgery, my entire left side was completely numb. Like, I couldn’t feel a thing (which, when I saw the horrifying swiss-cheese post-surgical MRIs, made me almost grateful I could figure out which side was screwed-up). In total honesty, I was never paralyzed on the left side (although I was definitely weakened), however, you’d be amazed at how useless your limbs are if you can’t feel them. Imagine if you had to actually see your hand to know if you had it clenched or not and you can imagine the trouble I had (okay, so that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s not far off)(also, my sense of sight, hearing, smell, etc were always intact, but that’s another matter)..
I’m doing much, much, much better these days; HOWEVER, as everyone has noted, the side-effects of treatment are identical to cancer progression (this is true), and, as Mad Scientist noted, likely to cause more somatosensory problems (I have a temporary handicapped parking placard thanks to that prediction) and, in total honesty, there have been a few days  where I was not moving at 100%. These are usually post-infusion days (there’s a shocker). So, after the latest round of black magic (that was last Tuesday, I believe), I wasn’t feeling completely well (I’ve also since figured out that my allergies tend to exacerbate my post-infusion side-effects), so, when offered the chance to go for  a walk, I accepted, and grabbed one of Dad’s canes.
A few notes on Dad I have previously left out. Back in... oh, let’s say the past, he had a nasty bicycle mishap that required lots of assorted orthopedic surgery, and required him to become an expert at using canes. So, I figured he’d have one left over from his own medical misadventures. I was right; and he dug out a German-engineered walking stick (that’s the only way to describe it). Although I got an introduction to cane-use 101 (the physical rehab cheerleaders in Northern California were decidedly sub-par), I decided it didn’t seem like a good immediate investment (Dad later confirmed this, pointing out that the form of injury determines the best cane to use). He also admitted that even though he liked the walking stick, it was his attempt to ditch the horrifying, medical-standard hospital canes you get sent home with, in favor of something cooler and more versatile. Now, also to keep in mind; Dad’s hip joint is starting to wear out, and he’ll be due in for more surgery at some point in the future. Which also could be a limp-rich time for me. And it occurred to me that I didn’t wait for Radiation Oncologist’s (horribly accurate)(still horribly accurate as it turns out) prediction that I’d lose vast swathes of hair, before i started doing hair-replacement research.
I believe my remark to Dad was, “There have to be cooler, functional canes. Pimps have them.” Yes, I’ll admit that may be the whitest thing ever written.
However, just 20 minutes of research made me realize just how screwed cancer patients are by dint of being a medical novelty - it’s a disease of old, (or an unbelievably rare disease, in my case) and, until recently, people weren’t living long enough to get cancer, or dying before they got diagnosed (that’s most brain cancer patients)(or patients with obvious tumors/cancer - it was discovered by the ancient Greeks, let’s not forget). Whereas we’ve had obvious, visible leg problems forever, and the underlying cause isn’t usually nearly-instantly lethal, so medical science has had a long, long time to deal with it. Now, in all fairness, I’m not saying paraplegia or bone or muscle problems or anything that causes limps and mobility problems are cured, or we need to divert research elsewhere, but a simple twenty minute search revealed that we are - in terms of those issues - light years ahead of even the coolest, most-freakiest stuff we have for brain tumors and cancer (my apologies to Radiation Oncologist if she’s reading this, but I think she’d agree that most treatments for bone injuries or hip dysplasia or any related medical conditions I’m forgetting are more numerous, cheaper, and more effective than anything available to me, even though there’s a possibility I’m being held together by the Warlocks stealing the life essence of other beings and transferring it to me)(okay, that sounds way cooler than any cane, but I’m digressing). The point is, only twenty minutes’ of research revealed a wonderland of walking-aid options. And we’re only talking canes. There are - this amazed me - flask canes. I mean, I get that flasks are good and needed; double for canes, but combining the two never would have occurred to me. Surely, the point of a flask is that it can be discreetly sipped in those moments of crisis or boredom in the courtroom or family counseling session. Having a mobility issue and coupling that with the cumbersome size of a cane doesn’t seem the most efficient means of delivery. There are, of course, the classic sword canes (although I don’t know how effective they’ll be at supporting your weight). Based on Ian Fleming’s writings and experiences, I’d imagine you could get some sort of gun-cane combination, although, that also seems both tasteless and inefficient.
However, after much, much perusing, I found Candidate #1, should my mobility issues return on a more permanent case.

He activates the screen, which pulls up the inner schematics of the Lab.
X: Hmph… This is where Mushroom was observing me.  Lets zoom out.  There’s got to be something…
He pulls back from the Satellite feed to get an overhead view of his location.
He pulls back and finds that he is in a small island surrounded by long stretches of sea in every direction.
X: Am I on… Fiji???

He looks at the map.
X: (v.o, thinking) So which way do I go…? New Zealand or Australia… (aloud)  Its either South or West…
He looks at the map again and grows anxious as he tries to make a decision.  He looks up the distance between the two areas.

At around 2 hours past midnight, Iris walks into the Shinobi wing of the Maverick Hunter Dormitory hallways with a cautious look on her face.  There is too much on her mind that cannot wait until the morning.  She needs to find Zero at his quarters.
She finds his room at the end of the hall and timidly knocks.
IRIS: (low, soft) Zero...?
After a moment the door opens.  A groggy Zero looks down at her with his eyes half open.
ZERO: ...I-Iris?  Hey.. what’s up?
She looks away, almost embarrassed or ashamed.
IRIS: I couldn't sleep...  I've been thinking about you all day...  C-can we talk...?
His eyes widen as he wakes up a little more now.
ZERO: Of course.  Come in.
He lets her in and closes the door.

X studies the computer as he continues to convert his data from distance to time.
X: Looks like I’m heading South.  (v.o, thinking) New Zealand is 2595 kilometers away…  Let’s convert that to miles.
He types into the search engine and looks at his new numbers.
X: (v.o, thinking) Okay..  So 1 mile is 1.609 kilometers.  Man!  I can’t believe I’m doing Math right now.  So… then that’s… /1,612.46 miles!!  What does that mean??
At the dash, the information is /pulled up.  He begins to panic, as he starts to feel the weight of the distance in his chest.  Then he takes a deep breath.
X: Okay.  Let’s get real.  Marty was able to swim a mile in 10 minutes!  She was comparable to an amazing World Class Swimmer.  I remember how she used to make fun of me for taking 3 times as long as her…  I tried to keep up, but I’m average at best..  which means that it’ll take me about half an hour, each mile.  …27 minutes, to be nice..
He slightly smiles through his plight as he crunches more data.  This time he wants to see how many minutes it will take to reach New Zealand in 1,612 miles.
X: (wide eyes, stumped) …43,536.42 minutes.  Good, God…

Iris sits next to Zero on his bed as they both look at the floor.  He looks at her out of his periphery as he listens to her.
IRIS: I'm worried about you...
ZERO: Huh? …Why?
He turns his head to look at her solemn face, still staring at the floor.
IRIS: This War...  I think.. it's changing you.
ZERO: (neutral) ...I'm still me...
He looks directly ahead at the wall.
She makes a short laugh and continues, turning to him with a slight smile now.
IRIS: Ah.. I know...  But...  I don't know...  Its just been really scary to watch you lately... That's all.
ZERO: (defensive) So don't watch me.
IRIS: I can't...  I have to!
Out of confusion, Zero cringes his brow and starts to become annoyed.
ZERO: I don't understand y-
IRIS: (interjecting) I care about you too much...  I need to make sure that you're okay.
His heart lightens up inside. He finally feels that it’s time to open up to her too.

Iris puts her hand on Zero’s knee.

Zero closes his eyes. Almost ashamed.  He takes her hand and squeezes it.
ZERO: (whispering) ..no...
He closes his eyes and looks away, fearing the worst.

INT. BIO LABORATORY – Broken Computer Room – NIGHT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- X stands upright with huge eyes as he’s finished converting his data.
X: One month!  That is how long it would take if I swam from here to New Zealand.. with NO BREAKS!  And only THEN could I try to fly home..  This isn’t going to work.  I’ve got to call someone…  
Despite his com-link not working, he holds out his arm, opens up his gauntlet with the push of a button and thumbs through his contacts.
X: The coms are down, so I can’t talk to most of my contacts…  But maybe, I can reach out to some Ex-Hunters that I’m still on good terms with.  Let’s see… Who could I call from the web?
He looks at the names on his list of Ex-Hunters: Carapace Turtle, Charlie, Gear-rig, Grizzly Slash, Kenny, Plated Platypus, Poison Toad, Skid, Squid Adler, Steve, Tom, Venom Varanus, Zarrick.
X gasps.
X: Zarrick!  He’s the only one I could call.  Duh!  He inherited Cain Manor!!  I should’ve thought about that before.  I’ve got that number memorized!
X happily pulls up a phone app from Split Mushroom’s computer and dials Doctor Cain’s old number.

After a short moment of silence, Iris pats Zero on his hand.
IRIS: ...well, I guess... I’m gonna have to live with it.
ZERO: (surprised) Hm?
She lightly smiles with a tired face and curls up next to him, resting her head on his shoulder.
IRIS: (peaceful) I know how you feel about my Team...  I understand why you're fighting your fight.
ZERO: (astounded, relieved) You do!?  Thank you!  That's all I wanted..
IRIS: But I also know how I feel about you... And I don't want to lose that.
Zero's eyes widen as he feels his heart fill up with an unknown joy.
IRIS: (continuing) Which means that... for now... I'm just gonna have to live with it, until it gets better.
Zero blinks his eyes and looks at her, not quite sure what he is hearing.  Is she actually accepting Zero’s stance in this War?  More importantly… does she see a future with them together?
ZERO: (bowled over) Huh??
IRIS: (clear, engaged) I have a plan that'll help you attack Jet Stingray tomorrow...
ZERO: (shocked) What!? Are you serious??  You’re actually helping me???
IRIS: Yes.  ...Stingray is a jerk and he has it coming…  He never should have attacked Sydney like that.  That’s what escalated the War…
ZERO: It did!  If he didn’t do that, I still would’ve been pissed at your brother, but like.. that’s it!  I just would’ve been waiting for him to cool down and talk to me!
IRIS: Exactly!  And I’m still hoping that will happen.  But in the meantime…  Jet Stingray deserves to be punished.  And I want to help you do that.
Zero can’t believe his eyes.  This beautiful, unsuspecting girl has come into his life and now they’re working together as a team.
ZERO: (elated) Thank you.

ZARRICK: (tired, filtered) Y-yeah.  Sure man!  I’ve got a jet and everything.  Me and the crew can pick you up in the morning.
X: Oh my God, Zarrick!  You’re a LIFE SAVER!!
Zarrick laughs over the video call.
ZARRICK: (filtered) Heheh…  I’m so glad I can still be of help.  It’s late.  Get some sleep, man.  I’ve got your coordinates marked down.  We’ll come and get you in the morning.
X: (relieved) Ohh.  Thank, God man.  Okay…  I’ll see you tomorrow.
ZARRICK: (filtered) Goodnight.
X: (smiling) Goodnight.

INT. MAVERICK HUNTER BASE – Zero’s Dorm – NIGHT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zero and Iris are locked into each other’s eyes.  They passionately stare at each other, affixed and exhilarated by their new plan.
IRIS: I can get you inside the Marine Base Terminal.  From there you and your Unit can destroy the base from the inside.
Zero gasps and is overflowed with such emotion.
ZERO: Iris!  You’re so amazing.  And incredible!!
IRIS: (giggling, playful) Hehe.  I know..
She smiles, as Zero inches closer to her face.  He lightly puts his forehead against hers and touches her shoulders.  Their smiles continue.
ZERO: I'm so happy that we’re working together.
IRIS: (soft, whispering) Me too…
Their faces are so close that they can practically feel their lips touch when they talk.  In the next second, their lips meet as Zero hugs her.  In a passionate embrace, they proceed to kiss and pronounce their feelings for each other physically.  Their lips and tongues entwine with closed eyes as they both blush and fully accept each other’s kisses.
When they finally stop, she looks at him with amazed, slightly glazed eyes.
IRIS: Oh, Zero... I Love you.
ZERO: (gasping) I Love you too...!
They feel dizzy as they embrace into their second passionate kiss as a couple.
When they pull away, they look at each other, fondly.
ZERO: (smiling) Why?
IRIS: (smiling) Why what?
ZERO: (smiling) Why all this?  Why now?  Why help me??  
IRIS: (giggling) Were you even listening, silly? Or just staring into my eyes again.
ZERO: I do love those eyes..haha.  
He gives her a quick kiss.
IRIS: Hehehehe.  I already told you.  I just wanted to help you…  I wasn’t expecting any of this…
Zero gives her an impish grin.
ZERO: Whoops.
She smiles.
IRIS: Hehe..  oops…
ZERO: So… I think I get it.  You see my side now, but.. how? Why so sudden?
IRIS: It’s not sudden...  I’ve been very disappointed in Repliforce’s behavior, but… that’s my Brother…  And those are really great people that he works with.  For the most part!  But Stingray is a loose cannon.  I don’t like him.  Slash Beast was another one, but you did away with him too.
ZERO: Hmph.  What about Web Spider?
IRIS: Ugh!  Sooo creepy!
ZERO: Hahahaha!!!
They both lay down and get comfortable.  He puts his arm around her and pulls her to his side.  With her head on his chest, she puts an arm around him and runs a finger up and down his torso.  She hesitates and looks up at him sheepishly.  Then out of nowhere, she slaps him on the chest, lightly.
ZERO: Ah!  Hey..!!  What was that for??
IRIS: (smiling, flirting) Hm?  Oh, nothing…
He smiles at her curiously, then looks up at the ceiling as they snuggle.
ZERO: …We clearly have a thing going on.  Probably have for a while..
IRIS: Well, if this War had to be the catalyst to act on those feelings, then so be it, I guess..
She slightly frowns and looks away at that thought.  But then she looks at her beautiful, blonde warrior and decides to kiss him again.
ZERO: Mmh..  aah.
He accepts her short kiss as they disembark.
IRIS: Jet Stingray is a jerk...  He has this coming to him.
ZERO: Ohh Iris.  You have made my night.
He embraces her and pulls her on top of him with a tight loving squeeze.  She looks at him mischievously and puts her hands on his chest.
IRIS: I haven’t made anything yet!
Zero looks at her with wide eyes as she sits on top of his pelvis.  With a glittering twinkle in her eyes, she gently pulls his arms towards her chest with a smile.
Zero’s eyes widen and dilate as he gasps.  She has just placed his hands on her chest.  He always wondered how they felt.  Never in a million years did he think this would happen.
He massages her breasts as she blushes and makes a light moan.
IRIS: (passionate) Oh!  Zero…
She girates on his pelvis and leans in to kiss him again, as his hands makes his way down her back and firmly cup her bottom.
ZERO: (kissing, loving, consulting) Mmf. Yeah?
IRIS: (passionate, sighing, consenting) Yeahhhh…

Caption: November 17th, 9:00 AM - The next morning.
X waits outside of the weathered Laboratory amidst a short field of grass as he stares at the sea off the nearby shore.  He lightly gasps when he spots a shiny white jet heading toward him from the distance.
The jet pulls in, turns to his left and touches down nearby with it’s landing gears.  X smirks when he sees a big, flashy logo advertising the word “Legion”.
When the cockpit opens, Zarrick, Skid and Gear-Rig peer their heads out.  Zarrick hops out of the jet completely and smiles as he walks over to X.  
X: (thankful) Wow!  This is amazing. Thank you!!
He greets him with a firm handshake.
ZARRICK: (smiling) Ya see that X?  Sometimes it pays to have friends outside of the establishment.
X: Heheh.  I guess you’re right.
Zarrick leads X on-board, who takes a seat in the back next to GEAR-RIG, his short-term Navigator.
X: (surprised, warm) Oh.. Hello.
GEAR-RIG: Salutations, old friend.
He greets him with a warm, friendly handshake.
SKID: Yo..
A seat ahead of X, SKID passively waves her hand without even turning around as she gazes out the window.
Zarrick locks the cockpit and switches the knobs back on.
ZARRICK: Alright guys. All buckled in?  
SKID: (reluctant) Yeeeah…
GEAR-RIG: (excited) Yep.
X simply smiles and nods.
ZARRICK: Alright!  Next stop…  Good old Hunter HQ…!
X feels a wave of relief pass through him as the turbines from beneath his feet activate and rumble throughout the entire cockpit.  Soon the aircraft hovers over the sea and lifts off.
X: (v.o, thinking) Finally!  Thank Goodness for Zarrick.  I've got to get home and figure out what’s going on with our coms.

An annoyed Captain stares at his Halogen screen, which continuously loads and gives him no indication of updated information.
CAPTAIN: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!?
He smashes his fist against the central console and gets up from his station.
A nervous navigator turns around from his chair.
NAVIGATOR: Errm…  I think it’s that.. Bug we caught snooping around in our system sir.
CAPTAIN: Bug!!?
NAVIGATOR: Y-yeah.  You know.. The bird-like one.
CAPTAIN: Ghaaah.. Of course!  Its that Cyber Peacock, or whoever. It must be!!  Can we get a hold of X?
DISPATCHER: Um..  I'm not sure if it’s the system or what, but he hasn’t reported back since last night.
CAPTAIN: WHAT!!?
He walks over to his console and attempts a com-link only to hear static interference emitting from the network.
CAPTAIN: SHIT!! Coms are down!!!  Someone find X for me.
DISPATCHER: Ah-h.  I'll go, sir.
CAPTAIN: Good.  Lets get our best techs over to R & D.  With any luck, X is in the building and we can get him into Cyber Space.
DISPATCHER: Right away, sir!
NAVIGATOR: Can’t someone else go in, sir?  ..er.. In the meantime…?
CAPTAIN: No…  Thanks to the work of a world-class technician named Middy… X's Host Pod is able to interface with Cyber Space. He is the Only one who can physically enter the Data Network, since it’s his personal pod.  …if this is going to become a persistent problem we're going to have to remedy that.
NAVIGATOR: Zero's pod is down there. …Maybe we can rewire his!
CAPTAIN: Hmph.  Not in enough time..  Speaking of, where is he? And where the Hell is Iris??  I need her in here.

Iris teleports into a back room hand in hand with Zero and Takuma. They are surrounded by a line of supplies and Ride Chasers.
IRIS: (whispering) It’s a good thing I have direct access to all Repliforce Stations. Otherwise I don’t think this mission would even get off the ground.  The Main Terminal is just through that door.  Are you two sure about this?
ZERO: (firm, quiet) Absolutely sure.
TAKUMA: (worried, hushed) But what about Tau and Venzo?
ZERO: (low) The teleporters aren’t working for some reason…  They’ll just have to catch up with us the old fashioned way.
TAKUMA: (light) Hmm!  But that could take-
ZERO: -Hours, I know, depending on how they travel…  We have no other choice. We have to move.  Thanks for everything Iris.  We'll take it from here.
Zero looks around and chooses his Ride Chaser.
IRIS: (soft) Remember, I'm only agreeing to this because Stingray's a jerk...  If it weren't for him this War wouldn't escalate to such a degree...
ZERO: I know.
He hops on and slowly backs out of the track with his feet.
IRIS: I'd better get out of here. If I'm seen with you, technically that's treason.
Zero closes his eyes as Takuma gasps.
TAKUMA: (gasping) Are you gonna be okay?
IRIS: (smiling) I'm Repliforce silly.  I'll be fine…
She smiles at Takuma warmly and gives Zero a fond wave before she teleports out of there.
He makes a relieved smile as she disappears.
ZERO: (v.o, thinking) She'll be okay.
With her gone, Zero invites Takuma to hop on another Ride Chaser in the room.
ZERO: Well… It’s now or never, bud.  You ready for this?
Takuma takes a deep breath as he walks over to a Ride Chaser.
TAKUMA: I guess so..!

The Dispatcher returns, panting and winded.
DISPATCHER: I'm sorry sir..  Hheh. Hheh.  X isn’t in his room and no one has seen him at all today.
Captain looks at his frozen Halogen screen with a scowl.
CAPTAIN: (v.o, thinking) Well, are you happy now, X?  You made it Priority None, and now we’re all sitting ducks until you get back!

CAPTAIN: (o.s, v.o) …from wherever you are…
X looks out of the window as he gazes at the swiftly passing sea with concern.
ZARRICK: So, X…  I have to ask.  What were you doing on Fiji???
X: Heh…  I was investigating a lead that only lead to more questions.
ZARRICK: Isn’t that always the way…?  What was the lead?
X: Well, this lab created a bunch of new Mechaniloids!  The same ones that attacked the Sky Lagoon!!  So I figured it was this guy.
ALL: Oooooh.
SKID: So you got 'im?
X: (smiling) I got him.
ZARRICK: Nice!!
X: Yeah.  But… I can’t prove anything because he stranded me there, and now he's kinda dead…
GEAR-RIG: Oh my.
SKID: Heheh, that’s what happens when you mess with Big Boss X.
ZARRICK: So wait…  What did you want to prove?
X: That there’s something more to this War…  That it’s all happening for a reason.  I think Repliforce has been set up!  And now with our coms down and no way to get home, they’re going after us too!!
They all gasp in their own way.
ZARRICK: Hmmm.  Well now that we're on the subject, what happened with Repliforce anyway…??  Why did the 'Great War' start?
X: (surprised) Oh man…  That’s a tough one.

INT. REPLIFORCE MARINE BASE – Main Terminal - DAY

Zero smiles as he weaves back and forth in the corridor with Takuma on their Ride Chasers.
Ahead of them, a soldier drives after them on his Hornet Ride Chaser.
Takuma gasps while Zero grits his teeth and fires his Ride Chaser's blasters.  He destroys the soldier and his Ride Armor to bits within seconds.
ZERO: Hahahaa! Isn’t this great?
Takuma looks at his leader in awe.
ZARRICK: (o.s, v.o) There’s a lot of buzz on the news right now.  It doesn’t look good, man…
X: (o.s, v.o, regretful, disappointed) I know…  I dunno.
They pass by 3 hover gunners as they catch up to three more unsuspecting Hornet riders.
HORNET 1: Huh!?
He is struck down by the blasters and destroyed.
HORNET 2: What the-!?
Takuma shoots him down.
HORNET 3: (reporting) It’s the Hunters, sir. Its an Invasiaaahh!!!
His report is cut off short as Zero blasts through him and revs up his bike's engine.
They continue on the sloping ramps of the Terminal as they pass through a wave of hover gunners easily with their blasters.
ZARRICK: (o.s, v.o) What do you mean 'you don’t know'??
Zero hops off a ramp and destroys a fleeing soldier in mid-air.
X: (o.s, v.o, perturbed) I mean - I don’t. Know…  One minute everything’s fine.  The next second, The Sky Lagoon falls…  
Zero spots two soldiers riding in different directions. He shoots one in the back, while the other dodges his attack and jumps over his head.
ZERO: Whoa!
TAKUMA: (reacting) Whoa!!
Takuma quickly fires at the rider before they collide.  He destroys him in the knick of time.
TAKUMA: Phew…
X: (o.s, v.o) There was so much confusion. A lot of fingers were pointed that day. …I think we all got caught up in our emotions and said things we didn’t mean.
Zero weaves in and out of the line of fire from floats through the corridor when he spots a heart piece lying on the floor.
ZERO: (v.o, thinking) What the-??
He lowers himself to grab it while moving and then hurdles over a short pit trap while Takuma takes the safer route above him.
ZARRICK: (o.s, v.o) Oh yeah?  Well, those 'caught up emotions' are gonna have a lot of consequences on this World until you figure it out…
A vertical line of hover gunners attempt to form a blockade as Zero bashes through them with the bottom of his Ride Chaser.
Takuma joins him in the narrow corridor as they take a ramp down, which is walled up with barricades.
TAKUMA: (gasping, worried) Master, look out!!
ZERO: Hha!!
Zero fearlessly pops a wheelie and bashes through not one, but two barricades as they progress through the sloping corridor.
They continue in this fashion through more barricades until they arrive upon a series of dangerous tiles.
As they pass by, two tiles explode which affect them as they move on.
ZERO & TAKUMA: (hurt) Ohhh!
ZERO: Tile mines!!  Be careful!!!
TAKUMA: (worried) Ah-h..
ZERO: Jump over them!
They both carefully hop with their Ride Chasers as they evade the mines, but also head closer to dangerous pitfall traps.
TAKUMA: Good, God.  This place is falling apart!!
ZERO: (grinning, determined) Aaagh, yep!!  Keep jumping and firing your blasters. We're doin' it man!!!
Zero fires at the ceiling as he bashes through more barricades.  The place begins to explode.
TAKUMA: Whoa Man!! This is Crazy!!!
ZERO: (exhilerated, manic) Hahahahaha. Ahhahaha. HAHAHAAAH!!!!!
He continues to lay waste to the base's infrastructure as the whole place explodes around them.
TAKUMA: (scared) Ohhhh!!!

In a zoomed out, overhead view, we see a huge explosion occur at the Repliforce Marine Base.  The only thing that remains is the iron rigging of it’s surrounding ocean ports.

Zero and Takuma zip out of the explosion with their Ride Chaser’s mostly unfazed.
ZERO: Woooooh, baby!
TAKUMA: (Shocked) Whuhahoa!!!! Man!!!
ZERO: What a rush, eh?
TAKUMA: (nodding, excited) Hm!!
The two dash on into the waters of the Pacific as they ride around the damaged base’s Ocean Ports.

They all fly in silence until Gear-Rig speaks up.
GEAR-RIG: To be fair...  In X’s defense, there are possibly many more variables to this equation that have not presented themselves yet.
X: Yeah…  There’s something else going on here. I just know there is! It doesn’t all add up.
SKID: No… It really doesn’t.
X: I think they were set up!  And it’s my goal to prove it!
ZARRICK: How!?  And what if they weren’t??
X: (determined) I’ll figure out a way…  I just have to!
ZARRICK: Well, if anyone can figure it out, it’s you X.  In the meantime, let’s just focus on getting you home.
X: (nodding, relieved) Yeah…  Thanks again, man.
ZARRICK: Of course…  It’s the least I can do.  Rest up, X.  It’ll be an hour and a half before we get home.
X: Okay.
X sits back and rests his eyes as he takes a deep breath.

General and Colonel look at their monitors, surprised and annoyed.
GENERAL & COLONEL: WHAAAT!?
GENERAL: Colonel!  What is the meaning of this?
COLONEL: I…  I have no idea!!
GENERAL: FIND OUT!
COLONEL: Right away, sir.
He zooms in on his computer’s screen to find Zero and a Shinobi Hunter killing off the last of Jet Stingray’s recon scouts.  He narrows his eyes.
COLONEL: (muttering) Zero…  He must’ve snuck in somehow and-
GENERAL: …How did he get in?  The Maritime Unit didn’t even come close to breaching our defenses.
Colonel’s eyes widen.
COLONEL: (v.o, thinking) Was it all a distraction…?  No, it couldn’t be…  For an attack like this to go unnoticed it must’ve come from… (gasping, outloud)  …From inside…
GENERAL: What’s that?
COLONEL: I think I know what happened, sir.  But before I go further, I need to confirm something with my Sister.
GENERAL: Hm??
COLONEL: Please, excuse me.
He runs out of the room in a panic.

EXT. PACIFIC OCEAN – Ocean Ports – DAY

On an upward ramp from a port rigging, Zero bashes through two more Hornet Riders as Takuma follows him.  Then, Zero spots his target at last.
ZERO: Stingray!!  I’m coming for you.
Jet Stingray, flies steadily beyond Zero’s range, but he turns around shocked and annoyed.
JET STINGRAY: What the Hell have you done!?
Zero fires his blasters at him and they just narrowly miss him.
ZERO: (impish) What’s it look like?  I destroyed your Home Base!!
JET STINGRAY: You crazy, foolish bastard.  You’ll pay for that.
ZERO: Hahaha, nope!
He manages to catch a ramp that gives him enough momentum to reach Jet Stingray with a mid-air dash from his Ride Chaser.
JET STINGRAY: Gaaah, noo!!
He flies away at mach speed as light explosions peer out from his back.
ZERO: Hah!  That’s what you get for destroying Sydney..  Coward…
Zero chases after him with a fervor as more Hornet Riders get in his way.
Takuma aids him with cover fire from behind as the two traverse through the surrounding ports.

Iris walks and talks with Spiral Pegasus, who is surprised and happy to see her.
IRIS: (continuing) …so then I said, “You know what?  If you’re gonna continue to act like a child, maybe you should be treated like one and get a time out.  I’m leaving.”
SPIRAL PEGASUS: Whooa!  You really said that??  I can’t believe it.   What did he say?
IRIS: (firm, stern) I don’t know.  I just up and left.  I didn’t even look behind me.
SPIRAL PEGASUS: Damn, girl.  You tell ‘em.  I never understood why you bothered hanging around him in the first place.  Good for you.
IRIS: (blushing) Hmm.. Shya..  Right??
SPIRAL PEGASUS: (smiling) I’m glad you came to your senses, kid.  Welcome back.
IRIS: (warm, smiling) Thanks, Skiver.
COLONEL: (o.s, filtered) Sister??
IRIS: (gasping, loud) Oh!
The sound of a com-link from her brother surprises her so much, she actually jumps.
SPIRAL PEGASUS: Whoa!  Haha.  You okay?
IRIS: (aside) Haha!  Yeah..  Just wasn’t expecting that.  (attentive) Hey, bro.  What’s up??
She attempts to sound as casual as possible and starts to sweat.
COLONEL: (o.s, filtered) We need to talk…  Where are you…?
IRIS: (worried, calm) Uhh, where would you want me to be??
COLONEL: (o.s, filtered) Hmph…  My office.  5 minutes ago.
IRIS: (nervous) I see…
COLONEL: (o.s, filtered) Get here, as soon as possible.  Understood?
IRIS: Yep.
COLONEL: (o.s, filtered) Good.  Over and out.
Iris’ sweaty, flushed face becomes misty eyed as well, to the point where Spiral Pegasus can’t ignore it.
SPIRAL PEGASUS: Uhh, you sure you’re alright?

SPIRAL PEGASUS: (annoyed, bothered) Why do you let him talk to you like that??  I know he’s your brother and all, but… he’s so damn… controlling.  I’d hate that if I were you!
IRIS: Ah no…  He’s just… protective of me.  That’s all.  He probably wants to lecture me about my own safety again.  ‘Don’t fraternize with the enemy Iris.  Anything could happen to you at any time…’
She mocks her brother’s serious voice, which makes Spiral Pegasus laugh for a moment.
SPIRAL PEGASUS: Heh..  Well, he won’t have to worry about that anymore, once you tell him the good news.

Spiral Pegasus smiles at her and gives her a soft pat on the shoulder.

She clenches her fist as she turns around and walks the other way.

Jet Stingray sneaks up from behind Zero and Takuma and he fires ground hunters at their Ride Chasers.
TAKUMA: Auughh!!
His Ride Chaser blows up, as he falls into the water, damaged.
Zero turns around, shocked.
ZERO: TAKUMMAAAA! NOOO!!!!
JET STINGRAY: Hahahaha!  That’s what you get, you pest!!
Zero swiftly dodges his ground hunters and slows down, allowing Jet Stingray to catch up with him.
Zero grimaces as he stares at Jet Stingray, focused.
ZERO: That’s it!
He hops off of the Ride Chaser and latches onto him in tight bear hug.
JET STINGRAY: What the-
BOTH: GHaaa.
Jet Stingray collides into his Ride Chaser, destroying it entirely.  
JET STINGRAY: You crazy, stupid bastard…
ZERO: You ugly, God damn Maverick!
The two of them repeatedly punch each other in the kidneys hard in mid-air as Jet Stingray flies them directly into an Ocean Port with a short purple gate

He smashes him against the wall, descends to the gate and enters it.
ZERO: Aughhh…
A bruised and bloody, Zero picks himself up, only to find another annoying Maverick waiting for him.
KING POSEIDON: HAhahahaha!!!  It is I, King Poseidon, come to finish the job.
KING POSEIDON(S): And I… and I… and I… and I…
More and more appear from out of the water in a swarm as they hop onto the port’s landing.  They begin to surround him as Zero looks up at them, more annoyed than worried.
He wipes some blood off of his lip and pulls out his glowing, green saber.
ZERO: Yeah!?  …That’s how we’re doin’ this?
KING POSEIDON(S): Muahahahah.  Get ‘im.
??????: NOOOOO!!!!
ZERO: Huh???
A huge hammer bashes through a wave of King Poseidons, from beyond Zero’s line of sight.  Then he smiles, when he catches a glimpse of his weapon.
??????: Huuaaaaahhhhh!!!!!
The hammer bashes the King Poseidon that was talking to Zero from behind.  Takuma is revealed to be alive and well, with a life bottle in his hand.
ZERO: Takuuumaa!!!  Impressive entrance!!!
He slashes away two Poseidons that attempt revenge.
TAKUMA: YYYAh!!!
He swings his heavy hammer at a few King Poseidons to his left.
TAKUMA: Take this!  It’ll give you your strength back.  …I found a sub-tank too, but I’m gonna hold onto it for now, just in case.
He tosses the life bottle to Zero, who quickly catches it and drinks the liquefied energen right away.
ZERO: Whoa, Takuma!  You’re the man!!
TAKUMA: I’ll handle these idiots out here.  Get in there and finish the job.
ZERO: I will!
Without hesitation he turns around and dashes into the gate.

When the gate opens up, Zero drops into the water and falls on the shallow sandy surface.
Jet Stingray’s body slowly rises from the sand, and he turns around to see Zero in pristine condition.
JET STINGRAY: Argh!  He’s still after me!  Enough already.  We settle this now!
Jet Stingray gets ready in a battle stance as Zero pulls out his Z-Saber with a smile.

“It’s the abstraction, stupid”
As much as the economy plays a key role in political developments, abstractions are fundamental to the complex waters of software engineering.
The need for abstraction is what sparked the Serverless model in the Cloud. This is decades-old in our industry.
It has happened with programming languages. We went from the lower-level ones – Assembly, C, Java – to the higher-level and increasingly popular JavaScript and Python. Also with paradigms, going from procedural to object-oriented and functional programming.
Yes, several factors were behind these evolutionary courses, but very few would deny the fundamental role played by the need for abstraction.
Think for a second: what would the web look like if every-single-developer had to understand and deal with memory allocation or parsing TCP/IP packages?
Abstraction delivers speed, simplicity, reusability, and collaboration. They scale much better and enable building complex systems out of simple, battle-tested building blocks. They are at the heart of the exponential growth of the internet industry as we know it.
Shortage of resources
During World War II, chocolate became an expensive luxury in Europe. An Italian entrepreneur decided his fellow citizens deserved some affordable sweetness during such tough times and invented Nutella.
A shortage of resources always leads to searching for alternatives and solutions.
What shortage does the software industry face nowadays? CPU or memory? We have much higher and cheaper hardware capacity in an earphone than in early space rockets!
Humans are in shortage. More precisely, brains that are able to write quality software code. And their time costs a lot of money. Tens – or hundreds – of thousands of dollars every year. For a single brain.
That is one of the key factors behind the popularity of higher-level programming languages. They are much faster to develop with and save expensive brain time. It can be up to 3x faster to write a solution in Python than Java, for example (I know, eyes will roll because of this statement – but you get the point here).
This is also one of the key reasons behind the adoption of serverless: it makes developers more productive and speeds up time-to-market by abstracting away time-consuming infrastructure configuration and management.

The internet is a giant gluing machine
Internet services are overwhelmingly just gluing tools.
Look at Google. It glues data from scraped web pages, past search intents, click-through streams, etc, and compiles into a list of relevant URLs for each of our interests. That’s it.
As lower-level languages are yielding space to their higher-level counterparts, server-based infrastructure is quickly being supplanted by serverless ones. It’s a no-brainer and non-stop trend.
Serverless is just more suitable for building solutions in a giant gluing industry that is short of developer brain time.
What about the spectrum?
When it comes to technology, it is rarely a binary choice.
Lower-level programming languages provide all values of being closer to the metal: a high degree of control over the hardware, super-fast processing speed, etc.
But CPU is rarely a performance factor for workloads that are heavy at parsing data and networking. Python and JavaScript are great for data gluing, and their slower performance is usually not a problem. Until it is…
Enters the spectrum: Python can be combined with C, for example, when we need the best of both worlds: abstraction, developer productivity, and performance.
The same rationale applies to Cloud infrastructure. Serverless is becoming ubiquitous for web back-ends, just as JavaScript and Python. But it will be combined with solutions leaning towards server-based when necessary.

My expectation of the Model 3 test drive
The test drive with the Tesla Model 3 is to find out how the latest Tesla works and therefore by the way: what makes the Model 3 different from the larger Model S (apart from the length). In order to find out, I did a trip to the countryside – a short tour through the varied Lower Austria.
Introducing my individual passengers
Andreas Icha is responsible for our resort “Alles Auto” (All about Cars will come soon to the english website).
I invited three completely different passengers to my test drive. No. 1 is female, over 50, knows different cars, drives cars almost every day, but is only very interested in the topic – they should work. No. 2 is male, about 30, soaks up everything about cars, like a dry Greek natural sponge. No. 3 is female, counts 90 (!) years, still drives joyfully and safely small cars and is curious about everything new. And there is me – since my childhood infested with the auto virus and a critical observer of the mobility concepts for our future. For the personal opinions of the persons, I will use these Numbers in the editorial as 1 to 4 – that’s easier (for me).
The Tesla Model 3 variants to choose from
The Tesla Model 3 isn’t named like that because of  THREE different versions. But there are three models to choose from. You can choose from the following options:
Standard range Plus: Rear-wheel drive and partial premium interior
Maximum range: four-wheel drive and premium interior (our test vehicle)
Performance: four-wheel drive and premium interior
Model 3 does not skimp with power
Model 3 from Tesla doesn’t stint with performance. 460 HP is an announcement for a car of the middle class. The same class is Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, C-Class Benz and exotics, such as Jaguar XE or Renault Talisman. It is not the pure performance that inspires. No, the characteristic of the powerful e-drive. The full torque from the first engine revolution – that’s impressive.
Like pulled toward from an extra strong jar glass rubber, the Tesla slurps the hundred in 4.6 seconds. The top speed of 235 km / h is OK – for Austria at least sufficient. No. 2 very pleased: “Hurry, the next traffic light is red again. Give it a good gas … uh … electricity!”. The joy I like – “whoohoo” and we are gone – but only up to 50 km / h. We are still in the city area.
No. 1 notes that it is not that quiet in the interior. Although no engine hum can be heard (really now?), however, the wind and rolling noise are clearly audible with 80km/h. A well-insulated, modern oil burner is not much louder. So we roll over the Danube river highway in the direction of the airport, where “No. 3” is already waiting for us.

Tight front seats
The seats are a functional and pleasant compromise. For No. 2, the front seats have too little lateral support – compared to the sports cups of a Porsche (hm…). No. 1 means: “The upholstery could be a bit softer”. In my humble opinion, seating fits best for everyday life. During civilized driving style, the lateral support is fine, the seats are suitable for about 180 cm tall people and the tight padding helps the occupants to keep in a good mood and lively, even after long distances. A weakness: the headrests are not adjustable in height and inclination.
The front seats are well-sized and comfortable – even on longer trips.

Sitting back is no punishment inside Model 3 from Tesla. As in the front, the passengers in the second seat row are well and long-distance suitable lifted. Tight cushions ensure a tireless journey.
Modern sedans are generally a bit confusing. Tesla Model 3 is no exception. When parking backward, the camera at the rear and the acoustic beep tone helps anyway. So you’ll squeeze the Tesla into every tight parking space.
You can handle Model 3 almost entirely via the central monitor in the middle of the dashboard – which also impresses unicorn llamas
Operation via the central touch screen
In terms of functionality, Tesla goes its own way. In the interior, the central touch screen is the dominant design and operating element. Beside the screen there are only two steering column levers and two turn & push buttons on the steering wheel – that’s it. The menu navigation on the fixed tablet is very simple if you have seen through it once. That’s all it takes to operate a car. All functions are available here and you will be able to adapt all configurations. You can see that Tesla is a computer with a driving function. Only No. 3 is a little confused. “And how do you take the tablet down from there?” she asks doubtfully.

Crisp chassis for sporty driving
Model 3 you can drive crisp and direct because of the relatively high deadweight of almost 1.9 tonnes and the low center of gravity through the batteries let the load fed on the asphalt. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires on the test car are top and fitting very well with the vehicle. The category “sporty sedan” characterizes the driving dynamics best. Curvy overland trails, such as along the Wagram, conjure the Tesla an imaginary grin in the front. He acknowledges tight, fast corners with the intervention of the electronic assistance systems. They down-regulate everything so that a safe course is secured. Up to the limit, the Model 3 is neutral to slightly understeering on the road. The chassis is tight and fits well with the sporty character. 
The driving behavior of the Model 3 is quite sporty – with a racing kart you should better not compete
If you drive provident you will rarely need to use the brake pedal. Simply go from the gas or accelerator pedal and the energy will be recovered by recuperation and fed into the battery. If this is not enough, the brake calipers grip the four discs and decelerate the tight two tons until they standstill.
The brakes are sufficiently dimensioned and benefit from recuperation.
Interior and Trunk
The interior of the Tesla Model 3 is simply clear. This was addressed earlier in the context of usability. The materials don’t match the feeling of other premium manufacturers. Front and back, the Model 3 offers enough space. Four people will travel very comfortably by car – five of them fit in anyway.
The (rear) trunk can hold a lot of luggage – even if the loading floor is slightly high due to the batteries.
The trunk volume is sufficient for a mid-size vehicle. The high cargo space floor in the rear cargo space is because of the batteries on the car floor. The access is a big hole – unfortunately, the model 3 has no despite hatchback. In the front Trunk of the car, you will also find a storage space – this is the advantage of the compact electric motors.
All hatches open – access to the rear luggage compartment could be more convenient if it were a tailgate.
Full equipment – all in there
Our test vehicle is equipped with everything that Tesla has to offer – this is called ‘premium interior’. The front seats are 12-way adjustable and heated. The rear seats can be heated. Enjoy listening to music with the premium audio system – 14 speakers plus subwoofer make great sound.
Sunscreen – not the greatest thing since sliced bread
Ambivalent reactions trigger the tinted panoramic glass roof. While No. 2 finds the transparent roof extremely cool, No. 1 is less positive about it. “Because the sun is dazzling. It’s getting extremely hot because of that. Why isn’t there a nice sunshade roller blind? “, so the feedback. So I start to install the not very practical sunscreen. “Well … that’s not the greatest thing, since sliced bread but ok”, notes No. 1 sullen.

Autopilot – on the way to autonomous driving?
No. 2 nearly can’t wait anymore. He wants to see how the autopilot controls the car. “Come on! Take your hands off the steering wheel! Let the Tesla drive itself! “, It sounds highly motivated from the second row. No. 3, already experienced a lot in her 90 years and would like to spend some more time on this planet, moans: “Does it really have to be that way?!”
Come on – take your hands off!
 “Autopilot” sounds more dramatic than it is. The centerpiece is adaptive speed control, which does a pretty good job on the highway. For example, change lane? Yes, it works. However, the system acts so carefully – it needs enough space and no car should be visible from behind. But that raises the question of purpose. If you are no longer able to make a lane change without automatism, then please return your driver’s license.
From the use of the autopilot function in the city Tesla advises, is clear. Don’t do this. – I completely agree. Wrong estimated boundary lines on the road, or just next to it on the sidewalk, triggers sweat attacks. Sudden braking maneuvers, because the system thinks – there is a perceived obstacle – can bring the cars behind you into dangerous situations.
The autopilot is a first step in the direction of autonomous driving – but the way is still very long.
Tesla – Heel! – The blaming “Enhance Summon” feature
The summon feature on the Tesla app seems to make sense to lure the Model 3 out of a tight parking space
There is still the “enhance summon” feature that lures out the Tesla from any parking space as if done by a magic spell. That must be tested on practicality.
Szene: Sloping parker opposite a Greek Restaurant in Korneuburg. The garden is full – about 50 curious heads stretches to the parking spaces and looking forward to a high-tech spectacle.
Model 3 is moving – but short. Connection interrupted – aha. Again. Oh, another piece out of the square. Connection interrupted. Hm … is going again like this several times. Now the Tesla stands across the road and blocks five cars that can’t pass anymore.
We all need to get back into the car quickly – bu speed is relative for a 90-year-old lady. Finally, everyone is inside. But I can’t drive away immediately, because the car rolled straight and not in a curve out of the parking space. So  I need to roll back into the parking lot again, let all (now eight) cars pass and then pulling out of the parking slot manually. The mischievous grin of the guests at the Greek restaurant bothers me – I’m just very sensitive.
Safety and Security
Active safety is GREAT on Tesla’s Model 3. Recently, the Model 3 received five stars in a crash test by ÖAMTC / ADAC (see here: https://www.oeamtc.at/tests/crashtest/crashtest-2019-07/tesla-model-3-32606934). Among other things responsible is the high-strength metal structure of the body, all-around airbags and a lot of safety assistance systems.
The high passive safety is arguable by the enormous acceleration potential. In addition, you will find that driving with an electric vehicle is very relaxing and soothing. we need more relaxed motorists in this country!
The female passengers are happy about the high safety standards in Model 3.
Clean and green without emissions
Zero emissions! Of course, it is not and only half the truth. Depending on how the electricity was produced from the charging station, it is clean (renewable energy), dirty (lignite) or questionable (nuclear power). The ecological footprint also includes the production of the batteries. However, I deliberately do not want to continue this discussion here – the top experts in the world have been arguing for years.
Model 3 on the Tesla Supercharger – charging up to 80% battery capacity is relatively fast.
Certainly, the Tesla Model 3 generates no polluting pollutants while driving – which at least contributes to better air in the city.
All sorts of charging cables for all connections can be found in the double floor of the luggage compartment.
The Pricing
If you want to buy a brand new model 3, you have to pay (i Austria in September 2019) at least EUR 46,680. (35.000 USD USA Price List) For that, you get the “Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus”.
The retail price of our test car comes to EUR 64.930, – (Tesla Model 3 maximum range with dual-engine four-wheel drive and some extras). We did not consider the huge savings of Fuel and tax savings and state fundings.
Model 3 is the cheapest way to drive a Tesla. Retail Pricing starts at EUR 45.700, –
Tesla Model 3 vs. Model S – differences
First of all – the Model 3 is in a different league compared to the model S of Tesla. The big Tesla is longer and offers more space and a plus in travel comfort. The ‘little one’ drives more agile and sporty and therefore feels noticeably more comfortable on winding roads. The Model S performs larger ranges. The interior feels a bit higher in the Model S, but the Model 3 with its minimalist approach – One display that’s it – offers an even more modern ambiance. Pricing of the Model S starts at EUR 87,980, – compared to the EUR 46,680, – the Model 3 entry price (with significantly lower equipment and rear instead of four-wheel drive).

Conclusion of the editor
The Tesla Model 3 fascinates by its agile handling and the sports car-like performance. Due to the four-wheel-drive of the test vehicle, there are hardly any traction problems. In the city, the sedan is sufficiently maneuverable and offers four people and enough space for five people. Lovers of powerful electric cars can’t ignore the Tesla Model 3.
