The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.

Hmmm just gonna spit this headcanon out in text post form since A. I don't think I could exposit it well enough in image form and B. It's not actually textually/thematically substantiated and I don't like actually staking my stuff on just vibes alone*
But anyway. I'd say it's pretty evident that all the islanders forgot their names, right? King obviously. Because why the hell else would he do that, but also Siffrin No Middle Names No Last Name.
They're 'pretty sure' they've 'always' been 'Just Siffrin' 'as long as they can remember'. It's a pretty cruel twist of the knife to say that they don't even get to keep their birth name as a memento, which is why I'm saying as such.
My utterly unsubstantiated claim is I think it'd be cute to say that Sisyphus *is* the name Siffrin initially picked, assuming the myth of King Sisyphus is recontextualised as idk, just a play or something in the setting. But I like the idea of Siffrin going 'oh shit 🫵 he's just like me fr' at a tortured fictional character long before the irony kicks in.
As for how Sisyphus -> Siffrin. I think that chronic mumbler and emotional doormat Sif just did not correct people who misheard the name during their time travelling, and went through enough places with incompatible phonologies (pronounceable sounds in the language) without ever really writing it down that it just got kinda. Changed until it was unrecognisable, and Siffrin just went with it until the earlier pronunciations slipped out of their swiss-cheese brain. And they just kinda don't remember any of that.
Also, something something the horrid realisation that Siffrin also named themselves after a King. Just not as blatantly.
*(though I think there's something here about Siffrin, a guy from a belief system that seems to thoroughly disincentivise autonomy and self-motivated choice continuously having their hand forced to make changes/choices they don't want but have no choice but to... It's not solid enough to really back this up tbh, but it informs it.)
Anyway.

I think something that gets lost in the discourse of whether Beren and Luthien were wrong for not giving the Silmaril to the Fëanorians is that Luthien was kidnapped and held captive by Celegorm and Curufin, whose end goal was forcing her to marry - and with how Tolkien's elf marriage=sex that would require sexual assault or coercion in the very least - and then tried to murder her fiancé. And to her knowledge, C+C were never reprimanded for it by the other brothers. The only public consequence they got from their own family was in the form of Celebrimbor leaving. I love the Fëanorians, I really do, but if I were in Luthien's shoes, I would tell the entire family (minus Celebrimbor) to get fucked. I would not be taking the moral high ground and handing over the Silmaril to the guys who imprisoned me and tried to kill my loved one for sake of property rights and family heirlooms. The expectation that she should is wild.

1 year contract with no job security? Is this not what happened to Valtteri before he went to Alfa Romeo? You can build the team up to win 7 championships but the second they "want to go in a different direction" they will kick you to the curb

"This historical figure who was born as a woman and lived the rest of her life as a man isnt transgender and shes not a man she was an oppressed woman who pretended to be a man in order to pursue her dreams under intense patriarchy" listen i understand what the line of logic here is and i know that applying modern labels to figures who lived and died before these words and concepts were invented or popularized is a dangerous game but if this dude not only lived his life as a man but insisted that he be referred to as a man and went off on people who misgendered him and had an entire love life where all of his lovers would also refer to him as a man and was adamant that his body not be examined postmortem as so not to be retroactively defined by his genitals and wished to still be recognized as a man after his death i feel like at the very least you could respect his wishes to be referred to and seen as a man and leave the 'born female' thing to be an interesting tidbit at most instead of the fact about him you parade around

some of you people are really ableist to mithrun (and even post-canon thistle) for the sake of ships and its weird as hell. ' mithrun x reader you respark his desire to live because hes in love with you ' whats going on do you even like mithrun or do you think hes hot. because if you liked him you would not be fantasizing about curing part of his disability. this applies to making kabru or the canaries do it too.
also wrt post-canon thistle (if you think he's alive) there's a huge focus on his relationship with delgal/yaad as caretaker(s) while he's in a simmilar situation to mithrun's recovery period. and like. yeah i like this idea and im fond of their relationship anyway but also i think yaad should be allowed to not want to associate with him. yaad did dig their grave when they said they were delgal to him, but in a long-term scenario thistle did literally torment the golden kingdom in his paranoia and controlling behaviour. I like to imagine that yaad would over time grow to become fond of thistle again now that his episode is over and he no longer has the means to excert power over any of them anymore. but idk. nobody really likes to give yaad that agency and prefer to use them as a crutch for thistle.
dunmeshi fandom where is your love for strained relationships and mending wrongdoings
