WIP Wednesday

It wasn't a very writing-full week, but I took some time to draw!

- Raina's 9:37 Summer collection, the animal bras. Probably she hit Aveline very hard to take her measurements and have them wear it. It's missing Cullen, who has his own bra as well with tiny lions. How she took his measurements is a mistery, but it fits perfectly. Somehow.

- The AU that unites two hyperfixations, and with which I'll pester you for still some times. I decided to colour it and maybe to make it something a little more refined for my portfolio because fuck it. Allegedly, it wasn't a good idea to pair up my current hyperfixation with Tolkien, I don't know if many of you know but I'm a fervent Tolkien fan and... Well. My brain's down Mount Doom, I hope the Warg puppers will be able to retrieve it (without hurting themselves). Bear with me, also SCALEY JACKET. And themed brooch which Cullen is deftly failing to notice and question. I realised I have no idea about how to paint mountains, watch me search for 6 tutorials and crying. (I'm also a little crying because that's the best Cullen I've drawn up to now. And he's in a silly AU that will get three people's attention because I'm pestering them with it. Sorry Ali, toss me a shoe if I get annoying.)

Anyhow I just posted the Kos kid to nowadays piece so might as well have basically the only doodle of me trying to figure out the menace that keeps both Kos and Namir in the game-Abyss (aka Devourer of Worlds, King of Beasts, Martyr of Humaity, a fucking bitch to deal with(her enemies) or obviously the most amazing person in this world not that this means much (her)) She is what happens if you chuck all human souls of a doomed world onto the person who already was the first human to become a demon in their world, and then throw them into a whole new enviroment (her home was destroyed after all)

Anyhow she basically went all out in her previous lifetime and now mostly laughs at the religious fanatics trying to act out a fantasy novel to kill her (it’s not going well for them so far)

i'm one hundred percent certain that after percy and annabeth made out underwater. and he wanted to make their relationship official. the question was not "will you be my girlfriend?" but "can i be your boyfriend?" i don't care what the canon says. percy gave annabeth the space to take the lead in the relationship. because after a lifetime of being abandoned by everyone she dared to care for. and then watching her on the brink of a panic attack at the thought of losing him the last four years. he wanted to honor a new beginning between them by follow her lead and moving at her pace.

Reading (listening to, as Homer intended) the Iliad making me go oh. Ohhh. I should have done this before I read Gideon the Ninth. I get it now.

Particularly thinking now about the tidbit that in early drafts, our beloved gray-eyed Necromancer Warden of the Sixth House was named Diomedes Sextus. For Diomedes, king of Argos, young, brave, noble, heroic. Favorite fighter of Athena, bestest friend of Odysseus. And, notably, fought gods and—well he didn’t win exactly. But he got them good.

And specifically, he fought and wounded Aphrodite; Aphrodite, who is also called Cytherea.

And then of course Tamsyn Muir said she decided to change his name so she could make the Sex Pal joke.

Palamedes is a less heroic, less fondly remembered character in the Trojan War, but according to Plato, he unrelatedly invented both number and the alphabet, so you keep that connection to scholarship even if that’s not the first association with him. More interestingly, imo, there’s also an Arthurian Knight of the Round Table named Palamedes, best known for his unrequited love for Isolde (and his apparent ultimately gracious acceptance of her choosing Tristan).

I think this is actually a super interesting shift in thematic naming focus: from favored-of-Athena, fought-gods-and-wounded-them to unrequited heterosexual love, but didn’t act like a dick about it.
