Hey, what are your favorite Sanji ships? Do you only ship him with Gin (and if yes, why is GinxSanji a ship that you like)?

So! I do have a couple of ships for him!

1. Ginsan obviously. I’ll answer the second part of your ask here too, tho i’ve think i said it before on my main blog (whirlybirdwhat) but any excuse to rant lol. 

Its just!! very fun and gin with how little we know of him has a lot of opportunity to grow as a character and I can have complete control over that. He was inspired so much by Sanji and his life was shaped by the straw hats, and I just want to see where that goes! Additionally, its just. the mutual stand point they have (asshole people trying to control them, almost starving to death, etc etc.) and I think it jus has a lot of potential!! Also rare pair so i can do what i want with it lmao

My other Sanji ships are

2. Sanlu (Sanji x Luffy) - because its just. very soft. and food. also wci angst and the way Sanji lights up when luffy asks him about the All Blue like fck yeah

3. Sanuso (Sanji x Usopp) - also because its very soft and I think Usopp would be good at bringing Sanji down to earth and Sanji would be good at just expressing his mushy romantic feelings to Usopp. in away. idk

4. Sance (Sanji x Ace) - just. Alabasta. Very gay. And also fire guy and fire guy? Perfect and also luffy in the name of all good siblings just looking at both of them like they betrayed him is very funny to me because two seconds later he would support them as all good siblings do. Its also very soft and food. 

5. In a world where Nami wasn’t the biggest lesbian in one piece and sanji wasn’t a horny shithead, Sanji x Nami because i read a few ships where they were background characters and just. Nami keeps sanji down to earth and Sanji isn’t a fucking horny mess and is just like ! my wife’s awesome! which good for him. Definitely not want I want to see in One Piece or as a main pairing but?? its cute on the rare occasion. Better as friends tho

Hey! Opalsong would be interested in podficcing part of your series "monsters chasing dreams" (Mostly "Moments of Fear" at the moment, but maybe some of the others when they're complete)

My favorites are but the eternal pose points East (Lech L’cha)” and “a certain calmness” and - okay if I list anymore I’ll just list the entire series oops. Highly recommend!

In Which Higuma Doesn't Get To Get Drunk, Even Though He Really, Really Wants To - also by grainjew, Luffy goes back in time and everyone bullies higuma, delightful one shot, 2.5k.

The King's Will - my last rec (for now) by grainjew, a one shot focusing on Rayleigh and Luffy training on Ruskaina, and the application of conquerors haki, 2.3k, very, very good.

How it Should have Healed - by Wordlet, 36k, a hurt comfort series about Luffy’s numerous injuries over the years, and his crew taking care of him. Extremely sweet, hurts my heart, luffy please learn to take care of yourself, 100/10 reread all the time.

Coming Into Focus by DemonsLOver, 4k, focusing on Luffy’s trauma after Marineford, EXTREMELY good, I reread this one a lot as well.

Being there - by chali, 45k, another Luffy post Marineford fic that I love, focuses on his trauma and wounds left over in varying aspects and with each individual crewmate.

wish by spirit and if by yes - by midnightluck, 32k, in which sabo and ace reunite and they may have some issues but everything turns out alright in the end.

Chasing Flowers by taizi - 4.7k, the Strawhats leave out gifts for luffy and he just has to follow, outsider pov, one of my absolute favorites of taizi’s fics!! Actually just gonna say rn go read all of taizi’s one piece fics, everything is so very good.

Already Forever by taizi - 1.8k, another of taizi’s fics that devastate me, nami realizing that the way luffy works will never be understood by any one else, really, really, really sweet.

Sea Shanties by Milo - 13k, luffy focused series of one shots, and the first one devastates me. zoro/luffy but it’s not romantic just platonic and this made me cry 100%, its just. So soft. Chapter 2 is with brook annd chapter 3 is with shanks and oh,,,, oh its so good. One of my absolute favorites of all time.

Twin Flames by SoccerSarah01 - 66k, a Marineford fix-it in which Sabo remembers, he and Ace call themselves not just brothers but twins, and everything changes. This is by Sarah whom I love and I 100% cannot rec this fic enough its so, so, so good. asl brother focused and the way the brothers are written im just the watery eyes emoji.

I'll be by your side (forever, always) by SoccerSarah01 - 1.5k this also by Sarah is another fix-it in which Luffy takes the blow for ace, and there aftermath and it hurts but ohh,,, its so sweet

Wind Beneath My Wings by SoccerSarah01 - 11.8k, last rec for me rn by Sarah, essentially the asl brothers celebrate Makino’s birthday and everything is good and wonderful and soft <3

Rising suns, free waters by Amazaria - 5k, vivi and shanks talk at mariejeoise fic how can you not fall for that like. Oh god the concept is so good, and amazaria executed it perfectly!!! 100% recommend, stays very true to the characters, and their like for one straw hat luffy.

Serendipity and other ordinary miracles by Amazaria - 2k, also by Amazaria, Straw Hat loyalty and discussion of dreams thats just so, so, so good. it hurts my heart, but luffy loves his crew and they love him so everything is okay.

All that we've yet to lose (burning, burning bright before us) by Amazaria - 1.9k, usopp and Gear 2’s effects on Luffy, dear god this makes me cry, like. Holy shit. Also some very good nami + zoro bonding in the background like!!! cries.

Who Knows (what could happen) by Chromi - 87k, the only unfinished fic on here but im putting it because HOLY SHIT! Essentially the journey of Ace and the Spades from Sixis to the Moby Dick, Ace/Deuce incredibly good writing I cannot stress that enough and also pining. So much pining. Deuce you are so gay. This fic is very lovingly and well written, does err on the more mature side than the rest of the fics I have listed here (just look at the tags) but not explicit by any means. Chromi also has like. Tons more ace/deuce fic, and I highly recommended checking out her Take My Breath Away [Tumblr SFW Prompt Fills] series!

Synthesis by KBstories - 4k, in which even Luffy has a breaking point and that breaking point Is sabo, but his friends won’t let that happen. I reread this fic so much and it’s so fucking good like all of KBstories like,,, cries??

If you’re still accepting prompts (if not, here’s a fun little headcanon for ya! (Spoilers for Whole Cake and Sanji’s backstory))

I’m a firm believer that there’s no way, with all of Judge/Germa’s extensive scientific knowledge and genetic manipulation, the drug Sora took could leave 3/4 children completely unaffected while Sanji was born a standard child. SO! What if, even though Sanji experiences human emotion and was born weaker than his brothers, he’s not completely unmodified? I’ve bounced around a couple different ideas before (higher pain tolerance/deadened pain receptors (man regularly catches on fire and collects internal injuries like free candy), enhanced senses (like taste and smell), a faster healing factor (see multiple internal injuries), damn good lungs (all that smoking plus he’s canonically the best swimmer on the crew)) but I’d love to see your take on slightly modified Sanji. Bonus points if it’s somehow connected to his intended role as the spy/tactician/information gatherer of the Germa team.

Owner Zeff is a hard man, but a good one. He guides Patty and Carne into making better dishes than they could have ever imagined, gives them a home above the waves, and makes sure they get to eat, every night. There’s no days off save for errand runs, but Patty is a cook of the sea. He never needed those anyway.

But the kid – the fourth member after Carne – he’s… well, as Zeff calls him, he’s an Eggplant. Just nine according to the brat’s determined snarl, he can already cook circles around Patty and Carne when he can reach the counter. He knows what he’s doing, and is quick to correct what he doesn’t know. Patty feels like he should be jealous, but all he can manage to feel is a grudging sort of respect.

The kid is damn small, but he can cook.

Yet… there’s something off about him, that just doesn’t add up, and that alarms Patty more than anything else.

He’s just… weird.

Oda really cheated everyone put from having a 9 ft tall Ace. The Strawhats see this giant of a cowboy man say that he’s their captain’s brother, the same captain that is the second shortest person on the crew, second only to the literal reindeer (yet somehow he’s taller than me *sob*). The short jokes, oh the short jokes. Not to mention that Dragon is a behemoth of a man as well? Before the Roger reveal everyone must’ve thought Luffy got the short genes of the family (hell, he still might’ve)

LITERALLY. ACE DESERVES TO BE 9 FEET TALL. itd be so funny if he only shot up at 17 like JUST after he left Luffy so luffy has no idea and just goes oh free jungle gym upon seeing his too-tall brother like?? hello???? his crew is baffled. his crew asks if luffy is going to be that tall. hell, at this point, ace is like 2 feet above the tallest human they've seen. they don't even know humans can get this tall (save luffy, who knows garp.) luffy is just. small king. love him.

also i find it so funny that luffy is so short. i see him next to his crew and i smile. short kings for the win.

Oooo whats the foxy theory? Why is he relevant

SO VERY RELEVANT!

firstly, the theory that I have seen a lot is that the big meeting between Shanks and Luffy?? The big fight? The proof that Luffy is a great pirate and Shanks can take back his hat? It's going to be a Davy Back Fight - a proper one, without the schemeing of pirates like foxy. Foxy is a complete opposition to what Shanks is like as a captain, and basically just provides a standard Shanks will beat fully and absolutely lmao.

Secondly! the absolute amazing @grainjew (grainjew on ao3) and @sweetcandyholic (fallingwish on ao3) have a theory about Foxy + Long Ring Long Island's thematic relevance. Essentially, we know that water 7 is all about the captain's role right? Luffy has to make the decisions about merry, usopp and luffy's whole fight is about usopp's insecurity and Luffy's captainship, luffy's it's heavy about the duties of being a captain, even afterwards when Zoro points out about Luffy's role as a captain while debating on welcoming usopp back. What grainjew n sweetcandyholic say is that Long Ring Long Island sets this arc up perfectly, because it's about the captain's privileges. The captain makes all the decisions. The captain risks their crew members. The captain makes the choice to risk the crew's pride. The crew members have no choice. Its all about what the captain can do - then directly bleeds into water 7 which is about what the captain has to do.

it is the worst thing they have ever told me and now i am a member of fucking hell long ring long island, foxy as a captain that abuses his privileges in comparison to luffy, is fucking relevant. its cursed knowledge. i hate it sm.

because it fits very well with the first theory about shanks + luffy's confrontation being a davy back fight as well - because this time, it's between two captains who do not abuse their privileges as captain on the crew, and who understand what it is to risk it all without tricks. im betting that rather than crew members or flags, the debate will be over the hat, each being a stark difference to what foxy enforced as captain! it just. makes so much sense. i hate it so much. fuck you foxy fuck you so very very much.
