Minors: DON'T LIE ABOUT YOUR AGE ONLINE. Don't you understand you're putting yourself in danger? You shouldn't be interacting with adults privately online AT ALL. No you're not "mature for your age" or "almost 18". You're still a kid, NOT an adult.

Like a year ago, a 15 year old (who was pretending to be 19) tried to contact me and a friend on Discord, and then asked me questions he shouldn't be asked by someone his age. I instantly told my friends who he really was, blocked him and reported him. I'M 22. Why tf did he ask me that shit.

Then, I saw a tweet of someone I follow about a 13 year old kid, asking him for a relationship and making inapropiate comments to him in DM.

I'm a victim of online grooming ( I was 14, and didn't fake my age btw), and seeing minors willingly putting themselves in danger makes me sick.

And that left me wondering; how common is this?

Please, If you suspect someone is a minor in an adult space, BLOCK and REPORT, as soon as posible.

Anyway, after what seemed like hours of listening to the 12yr old wax on about how mature she believes she is, my aunt actually said, “I’m glad that you felt you could trust me with this,” and I think I almost fainted. Was definitely not expecting auntie to be so calm about it (sn: she’s an old, Black Pentecostal church lady auntie, so anything other than extreme anger + slut shaming is wayyy off brand here - hopefully it was genuine and not just something she said just bc EYE was present)

Then auntie asked her daughter to step outside so that the adults could talk (lol, I almost thought she meant someone else other than me and I nearly left the room with the 12yr old)

Here’s where the problem comes in: my immediate reaction was, if the kid truly thinks she’s in love + has clearly considered having sex, then put her on the pill or some other birth control immediately. But Auntie thinks it’s too early bc she doesn’t think her daughter is emotionally ready for sex, and not mature enough either (my 12yr old cuz’n thinks that if she takes a birth control pill on Monday, then she can have sex on Tuesday. I was stunned at how difficult it was to disabuse her of this notion - which apparently is “common knowledge” amongst her peers)

My aunt thinks putting her daughter on birth control would be encouraging a child to engage in intercourse, but I kept trying to drive home the fact that she IS going to have sex anyway, with or without contraception, and with or without auntie’s consent—that’s just a matter of fact, like taxes and physics and gravity

I kept saying, “just be glad she came to you beforehand, or at all, because now you have a chance to act and to protect her”

But then we found out about the boy. He’s a fucking mess, and almost 4yrs older than her

My aunt is leaning towards something like, “If she can demonstrate that she’s ready and mature enough, then maybe I’ll let her go on the pill when she turns 13 or 14,” and I’m like, what happens if SHE doesn’t wait until then?? Steps for being a parent to enforce on kids EQUALLY: 

I’ll add more later but so far:

I’ll praise them for good behavior or grades etc but scold or punish or whatever for inappropriate behavior or grades (unless it’s a C or something then I’ll just help but C’s are NOT the end of the world. Also if they’re autistic or have any other mental disability then the behavior is a different story)

If my children ever have trauma no one’s trauma will be invalidated compared to others if they’re both or all traumatized which I’ll try to prevent but shit happens like CSA and stuff 

I’ll never doubt them when they come out and be with them on their gender/sexuality discovery journey 

Taking devices and stuff away no matter the age as long as 10+ (cos that’s when they get devices that aren’t tv)

Taking devices away (tablets or tv) and no sleepovers/school clubs/events or going to friends houses for some amount of time depending on their crime for 11-12 

For 13-15 id take away devices like phones computers tablets tv allat and also ground them from going out or calling anyone and stuff obvi and no school events or clubs or anything including sports and stuff like drama club plays etc it’s their fault the teams suffering without them (or maybe doing better? I don’t know)

For 16-17 the above and for 17 id lecture them but stronger than i obviously would with younger kids and also not let them see their gf/bf/lover

for 11-12 is 8:45-9:15 pm

for 13-14 it’s 9:30-10:15 pm (maybe an all nighter for hw or something if truly needed)

For 15-16 it’s 10:15 pm-12:00 am because sometimes you need to pull an all nighter for assignments

17+ idc just get sleep and don’t be on your screens too long mk??

When I expect my child to get a car is at the latest 17 but I understand shit happens

id mostly like to keep my baby off the road if they’re really allat terrible at driving and by the time they’re 17 if they’ont got a vehicle they can travel with they best not expect my flat ass to be pulling up

I expect my kid to be tryna get a job by 15-16 especially 16 and DEFINITELY best have one by 17 cos car!! 

If my kid is excited about getting a job at 14 they gonna work to find that shit but if they find one then you go guy/gal/nonbinary pal

If my kid doesn’t have a job anytime between 18-23 they can stay with me but by 24 they WILL be trying because they could at least work at McDonald’s and get better jobs from there with college and stuff

If they ever wanna quit something I’ll talk to them and ask why and stuff and if it’s something silly like not feeling good enough or something I’ll give em a good pep talk and maybe let them take a break if it’s possible to go back after but if they truly want or need to quit then they got it
