⸺ LESSON 3 ⸺
Solomon
MC's magic
strange feelings & soup
misc
- lesson 2 || lesson 4 || all posts so far -
Not as much stuff in this lesson, but honestly I'm kind of glad. With 40 lessons to go through I'm grateful for the shorter ones lol
General spoiler warning for all of Obey Me Nightbringer, as well as for the original Obey Me
⸺ SOLOMON ⸺
Lucifer kind of makes it sound like Solomon hasn't had an apprentice yet at this point in time [3-A; pic below]. Again, thinking about something that was established in OG season 3......
Solomon is also wearing his human world look again [3-15 + lesson 3 hard mode]
Solomon's fortune telling app essentially is the reason Mammon picked up gambling [lesson 3 hard mode]. Again, be it intentional or not, he's influencing the things around him to eventually play out the same way they did in our time
⸺ MC'S MAGIC ⸺
their magic is still strong enough to summon Beelzebub [3-10]
⸺ STRANGE FEELINGS & SOUP ⸺
Lucifer is once again a little vulnerable around MC by admitting to them that he wanted Cerberus as a pet from the start [3-15]
Mammon is also very open and vulnerable with MC [3-17; both pics below]
Lucifer says that someone must have leaked the information of what happened at the Starfall. And conviniently enough, MC is only refered to as "unnamed attendant" in the newspaper, ensuring that only the seven brothers are named the seven rulers of the underworld [3-15]
⸺ MISC ⸺
first quote from the website [3-4; pic below]
we get a small explanation on what the Starfall is [3-4; pic below]
Asmodeus mentions that Leviathan's elemental aspect is water [3-6]
Asmodeus charms the flowers that put the others in a trance, and we learn that he didn't have his charming powers back as an angel [3-8; pic below]
Belphegor hates apples [3-8]. They draw quite a lot of attention to this small moment imo
the way Cerberus just immediately listens to Lucifer [3-13]?? Like, just like that????
-> then again, considering how Lucifer treated Toni the Lepus until MC stepped in, maybe that's for the best...

I liked the main trio at first when I thought the story was going somewhere, then it jumped into weird baby's-first-romance stuff that felt designed to get people to make gifsets, and Ezran was the perfect unchallenged moral center.
yeah, i mean early callum/rayla/ezran were fine. early on in like season 1, there’s a huge question mark of potential above their heads. you’re still kind of sketching the type of person they maybe are. why is callum so calm in the face of danger, thinking about cycles of violence even when an elf assassin has a knife to his neck? who is rayla, really? how has being raised an assassin affected her? and ezran is a cute kid, what challenges will he face as king?
anyways as the story went on the answers were “lmao.” they stayed in that potential stage and kind of got worse. meanwhile soren and claudia were faced with pretty serious dilemmas and really tangibly changed throughout the series in a way none of the main 3 have. when the side characters are faced with the big questions and the main characters aren’t allowed to have any feelings, you sort of end up with that.
but like. the baby’s-first-romance is a symptom that they don’t actually know what to do with the 3 mains. it was completely unplanned, and it really kind of shows. even though callum and rayla just.... didn’t really have that level of emotional connection, they sort of wrote it in because, uh, i guess girls and boys can’t be friends. and it wasn’t a small write-in, either. so much time is spent on this romance.

Rtumblr entity file #??: @flufferdancy816 (or “Flüffy” for short.)
[Strange… this file opened on its own. RAERA is still sleeping, so they can’t have done it. Hm.]

🛳 my opinions on DNI lists
//ooooohhhh ok well here we go- so, as a whole, i think DNI lists are like. fine? i don't have one myself and i'm not interested in making one, but i understand they're important to some people and i do my best to respect them when i see them.
however, the main reason i won't make one for myself.... is that i don't think they're effective. like, at all. aside from very rare instances, i think a majority of DNIs i see are impossible to really enforce after a certain point, and i also see a lot of people in general who don't seem to want to enforce them.
again, i do want to clarify, DNIs are not inherently bad. i think it's good to take steps to curate your spaces online and do what you have to do to be comfortable! do what's best for you! but a DNI is only as effective as your ability and willingness to enforce the boundaries you put down, and the willingness of people it applies to to follow it.
for example. an 18+ blog saying "minors DNI or you will be blocked on sight"? that's perfectly fine. ditto for a blog run by a minor saying "18+ blogs DNI or you will be blocked on sight"--both of those are very clear, enforceable boundaries. from there it's just down on the person to actually enforce them.
(it should be noted that, after a certain point, even good DNIs like that are impossible to enforce completely, like if a post blows up you'll inevitably have people who fall under your DNI who interact with it without knowing they break your DNI, for example.)
but like... saying "homophobes dni" or "racists dni" is not... effective, in my opinion, because *most racists or homophobes* (and other bigots) will not openly call themselves that, nor will many of them consider themselves that. and also like... i don't think that just saying that is going to keep bigoted people from interacting with you and your posts, especially if they're real assholes about it. honestly, it may even have the opposite intended effect if the people you don't want interacting with you are actually dangerous.
and don't even get me started on vague DNIs like "usual dni criteria" or "freaks dni"--neither of those statements mean anything inherently and are, in fact, very performative to me and, at best, show you don't actually have firm boundaries for what kinds of people you want interacting and just want to show you have The Right Opinions.
ok this got long lmao- ok.
tl;dr: i don't think DNIs as a concept are inherently bad, and i think it's fantastic when people assert their boundaries and do what they have to do to make their time online as enjoyable as possible. but the vast majority of DNIs i see are functionally useless imo
