“I’m staying with him,” Steve says, toeing a weed in the soft soil. Testing the give. Thinks maybe he’ll be doing that for the rest of his life. 

“Uh,” Robin objects. They’re at the top of the hill again, halfway to the car — everyone but Eddie, who refused to leave the boathouse after telling them in horrific detail how a cheerleader floated up to the ceiling and popped like a cheap balloon, and whose pale, frightened face Steve can see staring at them through a grimy window, two black dots hardly daring to blink. 

“Steve.”

“Huh?” 

Max calls him a total space-case.

Robin groans up at the sky. "As much as we would all love to have a spooky sleepover with you two under a tarp—”

“Mm, would we love that?” Dustin wonders. 

“—I'm not so sure our parents would be too thrilled about us not coming home when there's a freaky evil killer magician on the loose!"

Max snorts at that; mutters under her breath. “My mom probably wouldn’t mind.”

Dustin whines, “Mine would!”

Three people turn in unison to lay into him for being a dick, but he’s already holding up his hands in surrender, cringing so hard it folds his face like crumpled paper. “Sorry,” he winces. “Sorry. That was rude.”

“Yep,” Max agrees with a flat smack of her lips.

Eddie's still waiting by the window.

Steve just nods at them — arms folded, shoulders broad. "Dustin’s right.” He turns to Robin. “You both are.”

“Thank you,” she sighs, the sound long and airy, sweet with relief that he's seen reason.

She takes a wide step toward the car.

Steve says, “Which is why I'm staying here, and you're all going home."

Her foot falls back down to the ground; legs stretched in a standing split, shoes slipping on wet grass. “Oh, my god." This sigh is sour. "Oh, my god, of course you are.”

“We’re not leaving you,” says Dustin.

“Wasn’t asking,” Steve replies.

Robin lets out a strangled noise of frustration and shimmies herself upright. "Steve, please!" She marches over. "I know you’re all” —her hands come up around her head, voice warbling; wooOoo-ooh— “about your boyfriend-slash-not-boyfriend-slash-whatever being in danger, and I get that, babe, I really do, but I don't! Know how! To drive!"

Steve turns to Max. 

She’s looking right at them, mouth pinched in a flat line over the laugh she's holding back. Restrained as ever, but Steve can see the glimmer of excitement at the edge of her expression — the subtle twitch of her nostrils, the muscle jumping in her jaw. 

I've driven it before. 

"...Do not," he warns as he presses his keys into her palm; closes her fist around the metal, "fuck this up."

Nevermore - Remastered

Another Spooky Season remaster, this time featuring some awesome original art from @spaced-goddess. Go check her blog out!

“Alright now, up we go,” came Mrs. Winthrop’s soft voice, as she picked her onesie-clad student up from the classroom floor and placed her onto her desk, their school principal looking on as she did. “Can’t be having a talk with you while you’re crawling around on the floor.” 

Amber didn’t resist. She didn’t say anything, didn’t fight back against her teacher’s choice of words - after all, walking without tripping seemed to have become her latest challenge, and she had the carpet burns on her knees to prove it. Without a word of protest, the girl allowed herself to be picked up and placed on the desk, hiding her blushing face away as much as she could. 

This was a far cry from the girl who first arrived in Mrs. Winthrop’s preschool classroom on Halloween day, half a year before. That Amber was headstrong and defiant, fuming constantly that some saboteur had seemingly drugged her and messed with her brain, leading her down a road of failed tests and embarrassing accidents. She was furious that she had to drop out of the college and come here to relearn her basics, and she let everyone around know it. 

That Amber was proud. She was sure of herself. And even through all of her setbacks, she was confident. “Whatever,” she would snarl, “fine.I’ll just re-do some stuff and get out of here. I’m still an adult. I’m still better than all these dumb little brats.” 

As the school year wore on, though, those “dumb little brats” could actually keep up with their preschool lessons. And Amber? Not so much. 

While her classmates learned their numbers and letters and shapes, Amber just stared blankly, trying and failing to understand what the teacher was talking about, only to be distracted by the slightest hint of a pretty bird or a squirrel outside the window. Again and again, those “dumb little brats” ended up having to help her with shape blocks and stacking rings, while they played with their ‘advanced’ toys. Again and again, they would have to remind Amber to use the potty - or, more often, tell Mrs. Winthrop when the girl had an accident. 

Maybe, if Amber had known that she was under a witch’s curse, she wouldn’t have been so shocked at how it all turned out. Maybe, if she had heard the incantation, heard that the spell would lower her abilities to the level of her maturity, she would have understood why her stubborn attitude wasn’t getting her anywhere. But of course, these were truths she never would have accepted, or believed. 

“Amber, sweetie,” Mrs. Winthrop began, “we need to talk about your progress.”

The girl said nothing. Her face was turned away, her hands hidden between her legs.

“Now now,” the principal chimed in, a stern air of authority in his voice, “your teacher made you a very special potty chart, don’t you remember?”

Amber turned her eyes briefly to the wall, turning them back just as quickly. It was embarrassing for her to think about - the way her teacher had set it all up to help encourage her re-training, the whole class cheering her on like their little sister as she proudly donned her training pants. But of course, her results were anything but encouraging, and she was soon taken out of pullups altogether.

“Do you think you did a good job with your potty training?” Mrs. Winthrop asked.

The girl hung her head in silence. 

“And do you think you’ve been doing a good job with your preschool lessons?” the teacher added. 

“N-no,” Amber finally muttered, tears beginning to well in her eyes.

“And do you know what we’re going to have to do now?” came the principal, his arms crossed as he stood in front of the girl.

“Am I… Am I gonna havta stay in preschool again next year?” Amber's voice began to crack. 

Mrs. Winthrop let out a heavy sigh. “No, honey… I’m afraid it doesn’t look like you’re ready for preschool at all.”  

The girl was in shock. “B-b-b-b-” she stammered, “but… but I’m a big girl! I’m a big girl!”

 “Oh?” the principal offered flatly, “And what do you think makes you a big girl?”

“‘Cause - ‘cause I’m…” Amber took her hands out from between her legs, trying to emulate the “I’m this many!” gesture that her classmates would often make. She wanted to show that she was nineteen… or was it twenty now? Was twenty more than nineteen? Would she need to use more fingers than the other preschoolers did? After all, she was a lot bigger than they were. But then again, they were a lot smarter than she was…  

“Oh dear,” Mrs. Winthrop intervened, motioning the girl’s hands back toward her lap, “I think the poor thing’s gone and confused herself again.”

It was at that moment that another set of footsteps made their way into the classroom, and they belonged to Tom, Amber’s college boyfriend. Through all her failures and misadventures, he was the only one who stuck by her, seeming to enjoy having to take care of her more and more. And now, here he was again to pick her up from school.

“Daddy!” the girl blurted out instantly - he’d encouraged her to start calling him that, and it came naturally to her now - “They tolded me I can’t go preschool! They tolded me I’m not ready! But I’m a big girl! Big girl! Big girl big girl BIG GIRL!!” Amber shrieked, pounding the desk with her balled-up fists as the tears began to stream down her face.

“Oh my,” Tom turned to the two adults, unfazed, “has she been causing trouble?”

“Ah, you know how she can be,” Mrs. Winthrop shrugged, “I’m sure it hasn’t been easy for her, trying to keep up with these classes with the level she’s at.” 

“Maybe,” Tom nodded, a wry smile beginning to form, “or maybe she just needs a change and a nap.

“Up we go, princess,” he turned to the girl, lifting her from the table and into his arms, “time to go home.” 

“BIG GUWL!” Amber kept shouting, hands still waving in the air, “BIG GUWL! BIG GUWL!”

“I’m sure you will be one day,” her boyfriend-turned daddy assured her, patting her padded bottom, “but for now, we’re gonna find you a nice daycare, and first we gotta change you out of that stinky diapy.”

“But I’m not stin-” the girl protested meekly, before freezing halfway through.

That, of course, was when the smell and the sensation hit her. Of course she was stinky - she'd probably filled her diaper while shouting about what a big girl she was, while insisting that she belonged in a preschool where she was nothing more than the pants-pooping laughing stock of the class. 

As the last remnants of her pride crumbled away, Amber started to imagine just how far she had left to fall. She wondered, as she was carried away from that classroom for the last time, was she going to be the laughing stock of her daycare, too? It was all too much for her mind to handle, and so the girl simply started to bawl. She cried, helplessly, like the little baby she had become. She cried, helplessly, like the little baby she had now been for months. She cried, helplessly, like the little baby she was going to be for a long, long time.

SURPRISE! Did you think the day would come when we would cover Love Live on this blog? I didn't!

Yohane the Parhelion: Blaze in the Deepblue is the Metroidvania-style game based on the fantasy spin-off of Love Live Sunshine, but you probably don't care about that! Statistically speaking, our target audience is Bogleech readers who are deeply revolted by anime girls!

So why bring up? Why bring it up? The answer is 🐠 FUNNY FISH! It's Funny Fish Friday!

Since this game is set in an underwater temple, the enemies this game are all based on sea creatures, and that's cool! Again, statistically speaking, you probably think sea creatures are cool. I really liked seeing the variety of enemies when playing through this game, so I thought it'd be fun if I could share them with an audience of people who otherwise wouldn't care! None of the enemies really have names, as far as I'm aware of. But I'll do my Rubesty...?

Our first guy we encounter in the game is the sort of guy who emerges from the ground like the Zombies from Castlevania, and wow! A good first impression I think. It is sort of a squid mantle, if the mantle was also a cloak for a spooky sort of wizard! The way it doesn't really have a 'face' in the hood and the eye is below really makes it seem like a weird mimic creature. Cool!

They also get a tough lategame variant which looks like a mix between a flapjack and a vampire squid. You don't often see flapjacks be designed as scary!

Next is Barnacles! A whole clump of them, like a cake. They shoot Energy Balls at you. Is this what Barnacles can do if they combine their powers...? The top actually opens up, and it looks a lot like a sea urchin's mouth! So maybe it is some sort of naked urchin creature covered in barnacles? Game Theory!

There are also barnacles with Ice Powers. Like real life!

Let's give it up for Garden Eel!!!!

What a fine Garden Eel it is! Complete with the sort of grumpy face, and with the addition of two little arms that make it look like it's praying or maybe a bit shy. But it is mean! It also spits energy balls at you, then hides in the hole so you can't hit it. How very sneaky!

SO sneaky, in fact, that these eels have mastered the art of ninjutsu! The ninja eel shows up for a split second in one single room, before smoke bombing away. You'd have to use a time freeze power to get him, but I never got around to doing that. I don't have any beef with a ninja eel! I respect him and his training!

Did someone say CTENOPHORE? I hope you did, or my hearing has really gotten worse. This thing is a grade A ctenophore, only with a ring of Scary Teeth! A little scary to think of a ctenophore who could Bite you, but nonetheless this deserves a :ctenopog:!

Let's not forget Fish Vortex! Fish Vortex was the first guy to make me go 'wow, this game's enemies really are awesome!' So of course I had to put him at the top of the post! He is my selling point! I am selling all these enemies to you. For 4.99 a pop!

Anyway. This design is just so funny and cool at the same time. A swirling school of fish that leads into an endless dark abyss, and in the middle, a big eyeball. Also covered in fish. It shoots fish at you! Yay!

There is also a pink variant - it shoots fish that give you the Solitude status effect, which basically just makes Yohane too depressed to summon her friends. Meaning? They are Depression Fish! Maybe she just becomes so jealous of the unity and teamwork of these sardines. She's me like just for real! ^_^

This slug is an umbrella. That is ridiculous! Ridiculously EPIC! It does the opposite of shield you from rain, which is create rain, that kills you. But I would still want one as an umbrella.

When I first saw this thing, I thought it was some strange round Echimoderm I had never heard of. But upon further inspection (I actually asked Mod Chikako shh), it is obviously like a Brittle Star, with each arm folded round to form a wheel! How creative and fun! It even has a bunch of eyes like a starfish!

Last but not least- sushi! There are sushi guys and they are cute. They don't really do much and are typically found in their own rooms, so I'm not sure what the point of them is. But finding a funny walking sushi should be a reward in of itself, I guess! Look at their funny rice feet! Or the one with the roe eyes!

I happened to use fire magic on one of them and this happened. Oopsies...

Now I am sure you are saying, thank you for showing me all these funny enemies. But are there any cool bosses? Of course there are, me! What's a Metroidvania without cool bosses? So I shall show you my favorites without delay!

First is this freak (affectionate)! It is a sort of amalgamation of lots of different animals and I think it just looks plain cool! Two squid mantles combined into one, a bit of a sea angel shape, bug legs and of course a great big eyeball!

If it is not freaky enough for you, let it be known that the bug legs turn into big green skeleton hands, and it also keeps getting pinker, and it grows new eyes and then extra horns grow out of those eyes. If THAT is not freaky enough for you then I am sorry but I cannot do anything about that.

Now, how about a sampling of this Freaken Thang? It honestly doesn't seem that sea-creature themed, but it uses seashells so I guess it counts!

What is really neat is that this boss has two different forms, upside down and rightside up! When it is upside down it looks a bit like a Magolor type creature. And of course, I really like the flame thing in the middle as well, that really feels like a Kirby enemy or something! Like a wisp made of plasma!

Fans of Anomalocaris won't be disappointed by this one! It's a big Anomalocaris tank and boy is it cool! There's something for everyone here, whether you're an Anomalocaris purist or you've always wanted to see it turn into a sort of futuristic beast with a screen mouth that shoots lasers! It really is the future, zura...

After covering all these wacky creatures, I'm going to have to end it off with the final boss! What could the big bad, the ultimate boss of all these sea monsters even be, I wonder? Well, it's...

...a coelecanth. Just a big coelacanth! It is big and blue! And really, does it need to be anything else? It is such an honor to make the biggest ultimate boss a coelacanth. It is even pretty cute!! Think he's smiling! 😊

Uh oh! Is it still cute? I guess so. My first thought seeing this was of course the world-renowned tongue eating isopod, so I really hope it was an intentional reference! It probably just wants to shake hands. Still, a pretty simplistic design for our final boss, right?

Buu buu! Its true form actually looks like this! Actually, it's kind of doing too much. Like let's tone it down a little?

So!! We beat the mega ultra coelacanth, and now we can find out what his motivation is! And it is... that he is the memories of the people of the past or something. And they all didn't want to be forgotten, so they turned into fish monsters! But we forgive them!

It doesn't really matter. All the girlies gather around and sing him a song. Look how happy he is! I forgot I was talking about a Love Live game until now, actually. All's well that ends well, the end, et cetera! Hit it, Yohane! [imagine this is like the end of a kids movie where all the Love Live girls are having a dance party and there is a shot of the big coelacanth in jail and he's tapping his mouth fingers along to the beat]

HELLO my dearly beloveds! I know its been a FAT while since I've thrown an ask at this blog (its ok tho, because unlike my dad, I came back /JOKE) but I just cant get the utter brainrot from date 4 out of my head and I wanted to leave a couple of words (as if I wasnt yapping enough in the server)

(Spoilers for date 4, of course, Im really sorry-)

But a couple of things I wanted to point out furthermore/appreciate is the fact that:

•While Tenebris could've absolutely just used a glamor and have people's approval more that way, he doesnt- He's just his authentic self and is unapologetic about it and I think thats really neat of him (It doesnt make me any less terrified to have him end my run though)

•I still have beef w that damn squirrel and I will die on this hill, Cake was either bribed or wanted to lead us to our certain doom, but thats the hill Im dying on until I get told/proven otherwise, then I'll take my L

•The knife throwing scene with Tenebris is very neat! Its nice that he's letting us in on his hobby regardless of wether or not we do/dont have experience knife throwing!

•KEITH PLEASE FALL ASLEEP ON MY LAP PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLE- (dragged away)

•That forest fae design is very well done! Fighting for my life to not run because I know that thing will catch me, but it was a very spooky design

•KEITH is still my dearly beloved, but I think Tenebris deserves the cat title more- C'mon, he's literally out here stealing from neighbours and growling at them /silly

•On the topic of Keith, he was very polite and sweet in his own date/poly date, but if it werent for Tenebris, I wouldve absolutely socked him in Ten's date when he started talking about the privilege of dating MC /exaggerating, of course

•I was a greedy bastard and absolutely chose to kiss them both on the mouth in the poly date and dont regret it, I think its cool that this is one of the only vns I know that actually includes poly tbh

Hehe, yes, Tenebris doesn't wanna bother with glamors for stuff like that. Besides, he's survived most of his life without them, up until he learned how to do it so why start now.

I would say Keith can have the cat title because he's calmer than Tenebris. But truthfully, they're both kind of dog coded.

He acted like that during Tenebris' date because he was salty, lmao. You didn't pick him and now Tenebris is just moping around instead of enjoying your company like he could've.

Good! They both wanted their kisses. Though you'll be hearing from Keith during the next date about how you gave Tenebris two.

Well, I imagine that Seafoam, Octo, Louis and any other tough guy on the ship would go down there and weed it out. Dragging it up onto the deck so that Blue Beauty could snatch it and dispose if it however she needed to <XDD 💀

I must specify that my cookie run characters are not in "my version" of the world- <:0 as in I didn't create the world they live in and how it works-

These cookie characters are fan OCs for an existing game! And note, its a game that I know next to nothing about! <:( I only researched enough to make characters that might fit into that universe somewhat realistically,, other than that, I've got nothing! :(

So about a pirate community being led by a King or Queen of some other chocolate brands..?.. aaaaaa I have no idea! <:0 Its not my world! Does it fit? I don't know.. Sorry.. :(((

:DD No problem! While I am spending an unfortunate amount of my time just lounging around trying to feel better.. I at least want to get around to answering asks! Its darn near my favorite part of running this blog after all! <XDD

When it comes to the Commander, he is not meant to have any fancy powers like in the movie or from Kamek. Magic in my universe is meant to be a very complicated practice. Something that would take years of studying and training to perfect. At least to the level where it can be used reliably in combat.. What I mean by this, is I don't think there's any magic related tricks that the Commander could "pick up" or be taught.. Magic also has everything to do with a magikoopa's gem staff thing, soo... <://

Though I suppose that the "superspeed flight" and the "self destruct" aspect could be incorporated into the Blue Parakoopa species somehow.. Perhaps due to the shape of their winds and flying styles, they could be incredibly fast. And Since they are so big and sturdy, perhaps they have been known to rocket towards their enemy and come crashing down onto/into them with all their might. Completely obliterating what ever they happen to hit. Like an explosion! XD Hmm.. I might just adopt that XDD Thanks for the idea!

Also he might make for a decent sparring partner if he was asked to do so! :0 though that's not his primary job..

As for Larry, unfortunately I've thought about him the least amongst the Koopalings. :((( Though I do intend to keep his star mark somehow.. and I didn't know about the music thing! :0 My Larry definitely wouldn't be a DJ, but I could certainly add an interest in music into his character! :0 Sounds like you kind'a built a bit of Larry for me! XD

I understand how everyone else sees it, but even then I wish people would get the message and just leave me alone about it. You know?

When I set a boundary, don't come into my ask box and question me about it. Don't start criticizing me or send me death threats or call me selfish and ungrateful. As has happened before..

I say this because in the past people have shipped my original characters together and have put mental illness and sexuality headcannons on themm.. which is just not ok. A Few Reminders

For this fest, there is a one claim per prompt policy.

The only exception to this is our Author/Artist’s choice prompt, which we are allowing up to 12 people to claim. However, once those 12 slots are gone, they’re gone.

You must claim your prompt on AO3 first, then, sign-up. Why? The form will ask you for the prompt # of the prompt you claimed.

You may only claim one prompt at this time. Later on, after sign-ups close, and if there are any prompts left, if you happen to submit your fanwork for your first claim before the fest deadline, you may then claim a second prompt. But remember, the Oct. 17th fest deadline will still apply. 🪄

Fest Information

The inspiration to host this fest came out of our desire to see more fanworks in the fandom where the darkness within us all is celebrated, embraced, and reveled in.

The premise for this fest is simple: Create any fanwork (fic or fanart) you like, ensuring that your main protagonist of your work is a Slytherin!

But, and this is where the challenge comes in... your fanwork must incorporate one of the gothic horror prompts that we have provided and must be in the gothic horror genre!

We hope, through participating in this fest, that you’ll allow yourself to indulge in what haunts you most!

Disclaimer:

Due to the darker subject material of the prompts, please be mindful that the process of creating a submission for this fest may be triggering. So, take care of yourself, honor your limits, and enter at your own risk.

Fest Rules

All levels of writers and artists are welcome! Even if this is your first fest!

All pairings and ship types (platonic, couples, and polyships) are allowed in this fest. You may also choose to focus your fanwork on only one character.

Ensure that your main character of your fanwork is a Slytherin (no exceptions)!

Any Slytherin from any of the Wizarding World eras is welcome. You may also choose to headcanon a non-Slytherin character as a Slytherin.

Your fanwork must incorporate one of the 99 gothic horror prompts that we provide. There are 12 additional Author/Artist’s choice prompts, however, those are first come, first serve. So, they will go quick!

Ensure that your fanwork qualifies as gothic horror. Read our full rules at the link listed below for further clarification on this.

The darker your fic the better, as this fest is the perfect opportunity to create some dark, morally gray, and/or dead-dove works!

Authors: there is no maximum word count for your work. But there is a minimum word count of 1,000 words.

Artists: As long as you follow the guidelines above, you may submit any form of fanart you like, including moodboards! However, AI-generated work and commissioned work from other artists may NOT be submitted!

This fest is an Author/Artist Revealed event. Your fanwork will be revealed on the dates listed above. When the fest is over, we will highlight your fanwork across our social media from Oct. 24th - Oct. 30th.

You do not have to be a member of The Writing Heirs of Slytherin Discord to participate in this fest. However, we do recommend joining so that you can be in contact with other Gothic Fantasy Fest participants! It’s also the quickest way to get a hold of the admin team!

ALRIGHT, since Halloween is just around the corner and this blog is ALSO about sharing and talking about my full-time hyperfixation (music), I want to make some recommendations of "unusual" or just unknown songs that very well fit the theme! I've mentioned before that I love making thematic playlists and that I have rules for them everything (it's serious shit!!), so I wanna share some of the songs featured in my "Ecclectic Halloween" playlist. The two basic rules I applied for that playlist are:

The song MUST include anything supernatural, spooky, bizarre, "murder/serial killer", classic creature and so on

The song can be of ANY genre; is it metal? Prog? Disco? Electronic? Soundtrack? COOL, ALL ARE WELCOME!

Let's get started!

1 - Rainbow - Tarot Woman

As an unapologetic 70s dad rock advocate, I HAVE to start with one of my fave bands of the genre! The song begins with a DOPE synth/keyboard solo, and then iconic Dio (the one Dio from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was named after) comes in with a bunch of cryptic imagery, like the predictions the tarot woman is telling him as she turns the cards side on:

Something in the air Tells me to beware - No, no, no! Her love is like a knife She'll carve away your life - So go, go, go! Beware of a place, a smile on a bright shiny face I'll never return, how do you know? Tarot woman! But I don't know, I don't know!

2 - Blackmore's Night - I Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore

From the same breed of the first song, cause Blackmore was the guitar player / composer for Rainbow - except that Blackmore's Night is a project he made way later (late 90s), with his wife Candice Night, who sings all the songs and composes with him. This song is about the CLASSIC tale of someone giving a lift to a mysterious woman they found wandering at the side of the road; when they get to the place she wanted to go and asks to leave, the driver turns around! And the lady, she's suddenly gone!!!!!

Standing in the rain, the cold and angry rain In a long white dress, a girl without a name She stood beneath the light, Glowing like a candle bright I guess it doesn't matter anymore (...) Finally she spoke, 'come pull off the road' Saying she was headin' home I turned and she was gone, I was all alone

3- Loreena McKennitt - The Bonny Swans

You might be asking: "Oriel, what the fuck, why is soft spoken-christmas songs-traditional folk medieval instruments Loreena McKennitt in this playlist at all??? With a song named like THAT?? What is so scary about pretty glorified ducks anyway?" - And to that I'll say right off the bat this is the most metal song in the entire playlist, and I say this unironically. This song is inspired by an old ballad and it tells about a girl who was drowned by her own sister out of jealousy of her betrothed; the sister kills her so she can have the lad for herself. It already has murder, as you can tell - but it gets WORSE, as the body of the drowned girl floats down the river and is found by a miller's daughter; a passing-by bard then uses the dead girl's bones and golden hair to make a harp that plays on it's own, possessed by the dead girl's spirit???? She (as the harp) asks to be taken to the court, the bard takes her, and AS A CURSED HARP MADE OF BONES the dead girl outs her sister as her murderer, in front of the entire family and the court. Look. If this isn't METAL AF, I don't know what ELSE can be. The "bonny swans" from the title comes from the comparison Loreena makes of the pale girl's body floating in the water, to swans swimming along. kkkkkkkkkkk JESUS.

4- Sting - Moon Over Bourbon Street

Probably one of the most fun songs in this, because it's a song written by Sting, inspired by Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire"! The song is under Louis' PoV, and he laments his current condition as a vampire and also as a man of god, as he wanders through New Orleans's streets. This Sting's live performance of this song (the live in Berlin, 2010) is my favorite by far - there's a whole ass epic orchestra and even a theremin! hehe

5- AQUA - Halloween

Yes, THAT AQUA - turns out they DO have more songs other than Barbie Girl, and they actually slap - I was there in the 90s, when the Deep Eurodance Magic was written. I LOVE this one because it has such a fun vibe, and obviously, inspired by the "Halloween" movie franchise - Lene plays as the girl alone at night who receives a call from René, playing as the psycho who's after her. They even act that scene at the begining of the song dsjfhjsdgf so cool!

The sound of shoes, a shadow that moves Something odd is tic tac ticking Someone's in here, I'm so full of fear The telephone is ringing!!

6- E Nomine - Das Tier In Mir

ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVES IN THIS PLAYLIST. E Nomine was (?) a German electronic music project who DARED to mix in dark techno/trance beats AND CHANTS IN LATIN, as this deep-voiced dude sings/borderline-raps in German. ITS HARD TO EXPLAIN, BUT I PROMISE, ITS SO SO SO DOPE. They also sang about all sorts of religious / dark fantasy themes - they have an entire album based on the Bible, which I promise, they made it a LOT MORE RAD AND COOL than it sounds; and another album about the supernatural and all kinds of creatures, like vampires, ghosts, werewolves, demons. "Das Tier in Mir" or "The Animal In Me" is their "werewolf" song - it starts off with this kid singing in Latin about the forest, and the moonlight, and the song goes on with Deep Voice Dude singing under the werewolf's perspective; it even features a dramatic transformation sequence!!

[Latin]The forest is hidden, in the moonlight, My home is the forest In the starlight (...) Dark clouds and dark thoughts, The full-moon night smashes my barriers down. The animal desire that I massacre comes in me. I feel this bloodlust here and now. Deep in the night the twinkling stars, A sweet smell is drawing me into the distance. But careful if my passion gets aroused quite gently in the night And the hunter wakes up in me! (Translation from here - it's rather clunky, but that's the gist of it!)

7- E Nomine - Mitternacht

Yep! Another one by E Nomine, BECAUSE THEY JUST SLAP TOO HARD. "Mitternacht", or "Midnight" is pretty much about the Witching Hour, all the spirits comes out when the bell strikes midnight!! This one is SUCH A FAVORITE of mine because it sounds EXACTLY what a DJ would play as vampires dressed in fancy, old outfits and masks waltz around in a haunted, opulent manor

When the gondolas are in mourning and the dead's lament resounds horror is breathing down your neck When the clock starts striking cold thick fog is touching you gently ...midnight! [Latin] midnight, dark night, cruelty of the soul the bell is ringing twelve times ...midnight! (Translation from here - same from previous song, kinda clunky but we get it)

8- Dead or Alive - Something In My House

Another classic banger with the catchiest fucking tune ever, by You-Spin-Me-Right-Round-Baby-Right-Round Dead or Alive, sung by ICONIC genderfucker wizard Pete Burns (the Gender Envy of him in this video is real). I have to admit, this one is SLIGHTLY cheating on my rules, cause the "something in my house" in question is not anything supernatural - it's a metaphor for a gone-wrong relationship, lol. Ngl, I think this is kinda fucking brilliant. But like, the spooky, Halloween-y vibes are all there nonetheless: wolves are howling, Pete is singing in an old castle and looking 200% like a vampire. Even if I'm cheating a little, it still fits!

9- League of Legends - Fiddlesticks, The Harbinger of Doom

Finally, some soundtracks! I don't play LoL, but I absolutely love some of the character's themes, and Fiddlestick's is one of them! For what I've got, Fiddlesticks is like this ancient, nightmare-ish Freddie Krugger-like entity, and BOY, does the song reflect exactly THAT. It SOUNDS like a horror movie, and I'm obsessed about it!!

When fields lie calm and wind stands still (Run home, run home) As the crows make night of the fading Sun (Hide now, hide now) When the trees do bow, as if they weep (Stay down, stay down) Though its light beckons forth, a melody calls out (Too late, too late)

10- The Alan Parson's Project - The Cask of Amontillado

And!!! Last but not least!! Closing this playlist with THIS ULTIMATE DAD PROG ROCK BANGER, which as you can see, is inspired by Poe's tale "The Cask of Amontillado". In fact, the entire album where that song comes from, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Edgar Allan Poe", is inspired by his work. Yeah there are also songs on "The Raven" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" too for example! It's just so cool! But "The Cask of Amontillado" is by far my favorite, specially with the instrumental part at the end, ughhhh <3

One chilly October evening Y/N and Dalton found themselves roaming around one of the local thrift shops looking for Halloween decorations. As soon as the calendar turned to October 1st, they excitedly declared that it was officially ‘spooky season’, but it was especially Y/N who couldn't wait to celebrate their first Halloween in their home. 

“What do you think about this one? Is it too spooky for the kids?” Dalton held up an old looking halloween mask, a big notorious rip at the top.

Y/N stared at it for a moment, trying to picture how it would look outside their house “I think it’s kinda lame”

Dalton scoffed, his eyebrows coming together as he scanned it again “I think it would look okay, we can make him wear a hat to hide the ripped part” Y/N didn’t look too convinced so Dalton put the mask on slowly and held his breath almost immediately, it was an old mask “See? It doesn’t look too bad when it’s over something”

Y/N giggled at this, walking towards him and taking the mask off “Let’s keep it for now in case we can’t find anything else” 

They had spent their weekend exploring every Halloween store they could find, but decorations were a little more expensive than they initially thought so that’s why they ended up scouring thrift shops. They were also planning on picking out a couple of pumpkins from the nearby pumpkin patch and brainstorming costume ideas for the so awaited Halloween party Chris couldn’t stop talking about. But there was one thing that they were the most excited for: buying sweets for the little trick-or-treaters.

Y/N had some fond memories of dressing up and going to every house asking for treats and they were determined to create something memorable for the kids in their neighbourhood, so the spooky decorations outside had to be perfect if she wanted it to be the full experience, and when she shared her idea with Dalton he couldn’t help but love her even more.

A couple of Sundays before the big day, they decided to take the entire day to pick out a couple of pumpkins and carve them. Their trip to the pumpkin patch was quick but a little intense, it was hard to find the ones that were big and steady enough since it was filled with kids and their parents who were looking for the same thing, but once they secured their pumpkins they made their way back to their home.

“So I’ve never actually done this so you’re gonna have to help me” Dalton said with a soft chuckle, laying the pumpkin carving tools on the living room floor.

“Never?” Y/N looked at him in disbelief as Dalton shook his head.

“At least not on my own, when I was a kid my parents used to help us do it but after… you know, my coma, Halloween wasn’t the same”

Y/N came up to him and softly placed a hand on his cheek “I’m sorry to hear that, baby”

“It’s okay, it’s not like I missed out on the Halloween experience, at least I get to do it with you” He replied with a smile.

Y/N nodded and placed a quick kiss on his lips “Then I’ll make sure it’s perfect” She whispered.

They sat next to each other so that Y/N could walk him through the entire process, giving him the steadier pumpkin so it would be a little easier for him.

“We’ll start by cutting out a lid” She grabbed a serrated knife and carefully pushed it into the pumpkin “Make sure you do it with an angle though, otherwise it will fall into it” Dalton was paying close attention to her as she went around the top of the pumpkin, taking his own knife to start with the process “Your lid should be bigger than mine, you hand has to fit inside the whole to take the seeds and pulp out” 

Dalton nodded and did as she said, smiling when the top of the pumpkin came out in a perfect circle. They proceeded to scoop the insides of the pumpkin with a spoon over a plastic bag to avoid making a mess, putting everything in a bowl to try and make a recipe Y/N’s mum had sent her. 

“Do you know what design you want to do?”

“Uh-” Dalton stopped and pulled out his phone, and after a moment he showed her his screen.

“Jack Skellington and Sally? I can barely make a regular face”

“Is it too hard?” Dalton was genuinely asking, he thought it was just like drawing something.

“Well… drawing isn’t the hard part, but we do have to carve it into the pumpkin and that can be a little tricky” Y/N took Dalton’s phone and zoomed into the pumpkins, analysing them closely “There are a lot of tiny details”

“We have the smaller detail sculpting from the carving kit, I think we can make it”

She looked up at him, he had a big smile and hopeful eyes, most likely waiting for Y/N to say yes. She sighed as she gave him back his phone “I’m sure you’ll do great, you’re an artist after all, but you’ll draw mine”

Dalton’s smile grew bigger. He excitedly drew on both pumpkins their respective designs, biting his tongue in concentration as his eyes focused on it. Y/N was right, he did a great job and both pumpkins looked amazing, now all they had to do was actually carve it.

That took a little longer than Y/N had anticipated, since she had never done such detailed faces but she was extremely happy at how they ended up looking, they were identical to the reference photo Dalton had shown her.

“You did fantastic, love” She said, hugging his side.

“We should do this every year” He hugged her back and pulled her closer to him, wrapping his arms around her waist “It could be our very own halloween tradition, we’ll buy the biggest pumpkins and our kids will learn how to-” He said that without even thinking, stopping as soon as he realised. Y/N looked up at him immediately, a smile forming on her face and noticing how his face was going red “Sorry-”

“I think they’ll love it” She interrupted him “And you will be a fantastic pumpkin carving guide” Y/N stood on her tiptoes and placed both hands on his shoulder blades, kissing him softly. Dalton smiled into the kiss, his eyes filling with tears as he thought of his future with her.

Halloween was just around the corner, it was the weekend before and Y/N and Dalton set out to buy all the sweets they would need to satisfy the little trick-or-treaters in their neighbourhood. Y/N walked through the shop’s hallways as Dalton followed her around with a shopping cart. They filled it with a mixture of chocolates, gummies, lollipops, and other sweets she thought the kids would love and a few others for them to keep.

"You two are going to be the most popular house on Halloween night!" The cashier smiled at them as she scanned everything they were buying, making Y/N and Dalton blush.

Back at their home they were finishing up with their decorations. It was pretty much done and it was already looking great, including the old mask they got a few weeks ago, but Y/N found a big skeleton that would be perfect to hold their sweets. They had everything ready, including their matching costumes for the Halloween party which was a good thing since the days seemed to fly by, and before they knew it, Halloween had arrived.

The plan was to meet Chris back on campus at 8:00 PM, giving them enough time to hand out sweets to at least a few kids before they had to leave. They were getting ready in advance, Y/N had told Dalton how much she loved it when someone in a costume opened the door for them, even though she doubted the kids would know who Ghostface and Casey Baker were.

As the sun began to set, children in all sorts of costumes began to trickle into their neighbourhood and soon enough the first group of kids were ringing on their door bell.

“Quick, should I keep the mask on or off?” Dalton asked, holding the mask next to his face.

“Definitely on, otherwise they’ll think a black long robe is your costume” He nodded and put it on, following Y/N as she made her way to the front door.

“Trick or tick” Four kids said at the same time as soon as they opened the door, their eyes lighting up with excitement as they noticed Dalton’s costume. 

“What do we have here?” Y/N said, taking a handful of sweets and dumping them into their tiny baskets “A fairy, a princess, a witch and a ghost!” “Are you a ghost too?” The little ghost asked Dalton. “Yes, but a cold one, that’s why I’m wearing a robe” He replied, making the kids laugh.

“What do we say?” A woman behind them talked.

“Thank you” They said in unisound, waving them goodbye and leaving their front door.

After that more and more kids started showing up at their door, and Y/N couldn’t be happier. They chatted with the parents, admired the creativity of the costumes, and shared stories of their own Halloween experiences.

Sadly the time for them to leave came, so they placed the remaining sweets in a big decorated bowl outside their door, next to the skeleton. 

“Thank you for doing this with me” Y/N said as Dalton locked their door and took her hand.

“It was my pleasure” He brought her hand up to his lips and placed a soft kiss “I think this is the best Halloween I’ve ever had, and that’s thanks to you, darling”

Y/N blushed at the pet name, she was used to them by now but it always made her feel some type of way “I wanted you to have good Halloween, and hopefully next year will be better”

i just wanna say thank you for making this blog, i haven't read through all the things i wanna read yet but what i've read has been very useful, and i'm glad that there are people like you who know what they're talking about out there for people to learn from.

if you don't mind me asking, i'm looking for anything i ought to know for a character i'm writing for a story with some supernatural elements and a rom-com type story. his name is Xavier, he is a black person (nonbinary but AMAB and masc-presenting most of the time), and he is a cryptozoologist with a youtube channel and blog and he travels around the country going to different haunted, supernatural, or just kinda spooky locations. he interviews the owners of these places and also highlights the surrounding towns, looking a little bit into the history of the area besides the varyingly supernatural stuff. his grandmother had an affair with an extraterrestrial back in the 70s, so that's where Xavier's interest in all this started.

i'm specifically wondering about things he might encounter or deal with on the road as a black person, but any advice is welcome!

NGL, at first I was like "you could not possibly expect me to guess how everything in your story could go down" lmao. But I see. You're asking specifically about how people might respond to him as a guy looking for cryptids.

Well, ngl, from my perspective as a Black person I'd wonder why tf he was doing that 🤣 We don't tend to fuck around and find out with ghosts, haints, and demons and shit. So he'd be definitely get some people going "ehh... OKAY" to him. Maybe get some incense and some blue bottles. You would benefit from reading some Black gothic literature, and maybe into Black ghost hunters and "cryptozoologists". This does NOT mean appropriate people's religions, or to write about things you shouldn't!! Too many people mess around with hoodoo (for example) thinking it's funny or savage or just a joke. So if it were me, Xavier needs to be serious, researched, and respectful about what he's doing- what he might consider "a cryptid" might be someone else's Being.

Um, he should definitely be concerned about bypassing Sundown Towns and not ending up in all white areas alone after dark. Bigfoot is not even remotely the scariest thing for a Black person in the woods at night. So if Xavier is in a place with a history that's less than friendly to people of color, he should be considering his options. Does he want this investigation that bad? Is he with people who will keep him safe, and will understand if he says Nah, not today? Does your narrative recognize that it's okay if he does?

But that's me thinking of this from a serious angle. If you're talking like, everyone knows about the ghosts and the creatures and stuff and this is normal, idk. Hope this helps 😅

now i may have accidentally learned what happens in this episode before i watched it which is why i try very hard to not peek at other blogs BUT. the episode certainly still delivered. return of the lizard man!!! i had forgotten about his yellow lizard eyes and shapeshifting. charming fellow.

anyway it's only been a few months since lizard man eugene tooms broke into scully's house (i think, time is confusing in this show) but they say he has been SUCH a good boy it's time for him to be released. to which i say: was breaking into her house not a massive deal? it is written off as "misplaced anger"... the fuck?!?

and scully is being reprimanded by her bosses, who say her reports don't play by the rules! but she shuts them up with her successful conviction rate. yeah of course they aren't playing by the book they're hunting bigfoot???

mulder testifies at his hearing because he spent 3 years working for the behavioral science unit profiling serial killers. now i feel that in any case involving an attack on scully, he's not the most objective guy to bring to the table. and he sure wasn't!

he openly claims that tooms is a hibernating century old lizard monster. ah, mulder, your honestly is refreshing and underappreciated. the judges think he is crazy.

scully rolls up and basically says that he also sounds crazy, to which he replies "i don't care how it sounds as long as it's the truth'' self-image be damned! spooky mulder wants answers (love his ongoing dedication to Truth as an overarching theme throughout this show. big fan)

scully just got yelled at by her bosses for not being by the book enough so she's hesitant to get involved, and mulder came out of the gate with a banger line here:

"look scully, if you're resistant because you don't believe, i'll respect that, but if you're resistant because of some bureaucratic pressure, they've not only reeled you in, but already skinned you" <- i gasped and said "get her ass" (sorry scully but i agree with him just this once!)

tooms picked up a dead rat and then licked his fingers which is Normal Behavior!

he also saw a pretty woman and began shifting into Lizard Mode, but before he could strike, mulder is on the scene! he asks tooms to help him find his elkhound named heinrich, which he uses to hunt moose

(now, to me, this line revealed some key information: fox mulder was DEFINITELY a theatre kid who took improv games VERY seriously. because where else could that even come from?)

old man says he knows where the body from the 1930's murder is and this is not treated as suspicious but shocker! he's right!

this moment also gave us scully in a big ol' coat and safety googles, which was entirely a look <3

next mister eugene tooms stakes out the house of a businessman, where mulder has followed without authorization... he begins to sneak in through the sewer to come and get the wife! who was distracted by her baby! to which i wrote the following:

"NAUR HE'S GONNA COME UP THROUGH THE TOILET NOOOOOOO don't have kids they will distract you from the lizard man climbing up your toilet to eat you"

solid advice i think we all can apply in our daily lives

(i also noted that mulder looks very at home in a shady alleyway but we don't need to analyze that right now)

then i wrote "i really hate this lizard man" which speaks for itself

scully shows up after mulder has spent 3 straight days in his car. she says mulder, your car fucking stinks. i will bring you a sandwich. you haven't slept in 3 days. let me take over.

he says he doesn't care about his career!!!! he just doesn't want her to break the rules and get a mark on her file by getting involved in an unauthorized stakeout!!!! what!!!! fuck!!!

WE GET OUR FIRST TIME SCULLY CALLS HIM FOX!!!! he laughs at this and said he even made his PARENTS call him mulder so she adjusts herself and says mulder, she wouldn't put herself on the line for anyone else AUGGHHHHHHHHH MELTING INTO A PUDDLE. THERE IS A PUDDLE NOW WHERE ONCE I STOOD.

she brought him a sandwich but he says "if there's an iced tea in that bag, could be love"

(love? the subject of love, spoken between OUR mulder and scully? at this very hour, by a man delirious from no sleep? i held my breath)

"must be fate", she says, and hands him a root beer <- LMAOOOOO the writers got my ass with that one... i fell entirely for their trap

before she heads for the stakeout he SO earnestly tells her that at 11:30 there is a sports talk radio show and leaves her with the silliest smile like :) which DID cause me to giggle. ugh he's SUCH a nerd.

but noooo the lizard man is in his caaaaar!

scully brought some magazines for her stakeout. once again NEED to know what she is reading in her free time.

cut scene back to mulder's place. whyyyyy does this man SLEEP on his COUCH?? have we investigated THAT mystery??? oh fuck he looks sooooo cozy though

lizard man cut his own face to frame mulder which made me GAG EWWWWW

their bosses say mulder has been forbidden from anymore tooms investigating since he has been framed for attacking him... they tell him to take a long vacation and he was very close to getting fired... aughhh i mean i DO want to see him take a vacation so we can get our beach episode but! stop being mean to him :(

the doctor assigned to deal with lizard man seems so nice only to get eaten. sad!

mulder IMMEDIATELY gets back on the case after the newest murder despite being told maybe 5 minutes ago his job is on the line. lol. lmao, even.

they go to the site of lizard man's old nest which is now a fancy building and mulder takes off his jacket and tie to crawl in the vents. okay but he didn't have to make it sensual. but he did. without trying. it was probably the last thing on his mind. and here we are. everyone say thank you mulder <3

the episode ends with mulder staring at a caterpillar in a cocoon and he says that a change for him and scully is coming... okayyy cryptic <3

(i would have expected them both to be heavily triggered by the sight of a cocoon but they seem well-adjusted)

so there was no addressing of the previous bug incident from the last episode which i expected but was a little disappointed by because the bugs cocooned them and i wanted to see what that fallout was. alas i have come to accept the timeskip format

(but like. aren't you curious about their quarantine? how long it took for them to feel better? what the recovery procedure was? no? just me? well alright then)

it was a good episode! glad we got to see mulder's improv skills, our first (and maybe last?) time scully called him "fox", more sleeping on the couch, an end to lizard man's reign of terror, and their undying loyalty to one another that i drink in like ambrosia. and i only have 3 episodes left of s1!!! what could those cryptic last words to the caterpillar mean....? we must stay tuned to find out!
