The reason I keep banging the Jiang Fengmian drum so hard is not that he did nothing wrong--he's definitely in contention for best parenting in this book but that bar is in the ground--but because most of the takes I see about him are so extremely bad.

If you want to slag him off for trying to make choices that would hurt no one, and winding up properly protecting no one as a result, that's valid! That's an interesting and text-based critique, which opens into his parallels with Lan Xichen!

If you want to blame him for being weirdly over-invested in Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng being bffs, that's fair, that definitely contributed to the weirdness between them. If you want to say he was a poor communicator, that he fundamentally misunderstood his son, that he failed to be emotionally available in a way his kids could get much use out of, even that he should have figured out a way to stop Yu Ziyuan from creating such a hostile environment, all of that is fair game!

If you want to tackle how the worst thing he did to his kids was die I am so interested in how Wei Wuxian went on to abandon A-Yuan by going to his death, and how that might be tied to how his primary adult role model tied him to a boat and went off to a fight he knew he was going to lose.

After his parents had already left him like that once before, presumably less intentionally.

But no, instead I keep seeing that Jiang Fengmian didn't care. That he never expressed affection. That he actively participated in Yu Ziyuan's fucky game of forcing proxy conflict onto the boys instead of constantly trying (and failing) to shut it down, or that he ignored her bad behavior because it didn't affect him, or that he fought with her constantly, or that he was too much of an unmanly coward to stand up to her when she wanted something.

All of which are directly in contradiction to every scene he's in, and several of which manage to invert or erase the actual conflicts between him and his wife that were the source of all that tension.

And which are really interesting, because some of the most intractable elements are ideological--Yu Ziyuan is fundamentally a conservative and Jiang Fengmian seems to want to be an egalitarian, which ofc matched poorly with his hereditary authority as patriarch of a large sect.

The fact that the bit where we get to actually see him failing to parent Jiang Cheng consists of him gently and firmly trying to correct Jiang Cheng's ethics when what was actually needed in that moment was reassurance for the well-founded insecurities that were causing him to be a little bitch, only for Yu Ziyuan to charge in and make everything fifty times worse, is so much more interesting than literally any version of this family dynamic I have seen in fic. It's to the point I'm relieved when writers kill Jiang Fengmian off, because it means they probably won't feel the need to character-assassinate him too badly.

The number of people I've seen come right out and say some variation of 'men can't be abused' is killing me here. No, Yu Ziyuan wanting to hurt her husband does not constitute sufficient proof that he abused her first and deserved it! That's not how anything works!

see now askdusttale DID answer the question. but they didn't ANSWER the question when asked what dust is like drunk. they just said that dust is the type to drink himself blackout drunk. so that mean i have total freedom on deciding what the mtt are like drunk hehehe (rubs hands together in a villanous way that you would imagine nightmare doing or something idk)

i already have an absolutely hilarious idea for horror and it might just because i'm on the guilt section of his character analysis but i could TOTALLY imagine him being an emotional drunk. like he CRIES. horror sans man known for being incredibly guarded and private with what he feels bawling his eye out. he gets mad he gets sad he does not get happy because horror doesn't have the right to be happy. he is too upset over the fact that he fucking DOOMED all of horrortale because of his selfishness and nothing can stop him from being incredibly vocal about that fact so much so that killer had to tape his mouth shut because he wouldn't stop crying so loud. and then he just silently cries until he passes out from exhaustion. the alcohol has an incredibly strong effect on him because i dont think he would drink regularly plus he definitely hasnt drinken anything in those 7 years of starvation. it hits like a fucking plane crashing into him. or like getting his eye taken out again. either one!

another funny idea i had for killer would be like the alcohol affecting him but he SWEARS that he's still sober. he is very confused when he starts stumbling because wtf he doesnt FEEL drunk??? why is he bumping into walls and tables HELP WHY DOES HE SOUND FUCKING STUPID???? the alcohol is definitely effecting him but he swears he swears he doesn't feel drunk. hes not drunk its just the damn body doing this stupid bullshit!!!! he's still very aware of what's going on and is basically the same as sober but just like. he's wiggly he's wobbly and oh shit he just fell head face first into a tv whoops. he'd also have a high tolerance because just because. he can drink without feeling like shit until he just blacks out mid conversation with someone because his body couldn't take the toll of all the beer or whatever. hilarious idea triglycercule thank you triglycercule i know

dust in the context that we already know that he drinks AND he can fight against the human while like partially drunk.... i feel it would be kinda like a giggly drunk situation. except dust doesn't laugh at anything that's funny he only laughs when someone gets hurt or something. SADISTIC giggly drunk. because i can already imagine a half drunk dust laughing his ass off after killing the human and its a beautiful sight to me.

I am so fucking sick of living with my roommate and his fuck ass boyfriend. Also watching my roommate burn every single one of his (already rather minimal, I might add) bridges for this guy is also kind of painful but also his relationship with me is one of said bridges so I'm almost past the point of even feeling bad for him lmao

#i have had to piss for probably the better part of an hour now #because they decided to take a shower together and have been in there for well OVER an hour now #and this is a nightly occurence atp sometimes MULTIPLE times a day #we have one bathroom.... can yall not be considerate enough to not be in there for up to TWO HOURS AT A TIME???#also it's such a waste of fucking water....#idk we've hit a point where i literally hear the bf doing anything and i get pissed off #but also tell me why i'm sitting in my room (which shares a wall with the bathroom) and i can hear this man hacking and spitting shit up #and this is also something that happens multiple times a day #like.... dude.... why are you spitting up toothpaste so fucking loudly oh my fucking god #but yeah no i'm like my roommate's only friend atp and he's about to not have me lmao like we're about to reach #'i'm cutting you off when i move out' levels of me being pissed off with this whole situation type shit #and apparently the bf convinced him to come out to his family which his mom was chill which is good #his dad's side of the family though....? not great. and my roommate KNEW that would be the case cuz we'd talked about it before #also love that my roommate has constantly talked about moving out of the city we live in because he hates and also there's no good career #opportunities for him here (which is true)#and now. pretty sure i just got a spider bite while trying to fall asleep 🧍

#i thought it was just a stray hair on my elbow under the blanket and kept trying to shake it off #and then i finally went to brush it off w my hand and felt a bump there #and then it was unbearably itchy so i turned the lamp on to apply some anti-itch stuff bc it was driving me nuts #and i was trying to see where it was on my elbow bc wtf when did i get bit #and then i looked at it and it was very pale like a fresh bite and then there was some skin torn like a spider bite #i cant tell if theres two little holes or not and honestly idk if spiders always leave two fang marks fjdkdl #but it doesnt look like a mosquito bite unless i tore the skin myself from scratching at it #but the way it is looking... very similar to past spider bites #anyways i just removed everything from my bed and methodically searched Everything. looked all around the bed too. cannot find a spider #so. shrug. <- actually very afraid #but the thing that makes me Really think it's a spider is that the bump was super pale and now after a little while it is regular skintone #so that makes me think it was a brand new fresh bite the way it was a different colour and now its normal looking #which is uhhh scary! to have had a spider possibly in my bed!#and I can't find it so i simply do not Know and that is going to make it so hard to sleep tonight fjfkdl #man i barely ate today too so im just... really not doing well at this very moment fjfkdl #i cant eat anything rn though bc i already brushed my teeth and i dont want to do that again tonight fjfkdl #but i am. so hungry. augh. idk what I'd even eat anyways im too anxious to stomach anything #WHERE IS THIS SPIDER. #not snz #apparently he's some sort of cook for a living #idk what he does i just know he works in a kitchen #but this isn't like a career move or anything for him #he's super secretive about his job for some reason?? like damn how bad is it lmao #he didn’t even tell us what he does i just managed to clock him #he's been here for like a week now and I've been going in extra days bc my boss is on vacation and someone needs to train him #kinda quiet the first couple days and didn’t really talk until you said something to him first unless he had a question #and then i said fuck like five times in the same sentence and now he talks a lot lmao #swearing like a sailor gang unite i guess #anyway i tried to hand him off to another coworker so i could go play vet for a few of our animals #but he wanted to come and i was like 😬#bc one of the animals has a nasty infected wound that needs hella care #and I'm the one who does it bc it makes everyone else sick and/or faint #and i go 'oh no it's okay i can do it it's kinda gross' and I'm telling him Why and everything #dude looks me in the face he's like 'i work in a kitchen'#I'm like bro respectfully i think this is a bit different from raw meat #and he proceeds to tell me that he watched someone cut part of their finger off???????#like wtf is going on in restaurants #so i was too floored by that response to say shit so he came with me #and to his credit he was very good with all the medical stuff like I'll give him that #he's just so deadpan about everything and it's so funny to me #also he can do a handstand for over a minute #like a few of us were sitting in the office vibing and trying to bond and he just drops that then did it like??#i know so much about this man and yet i know nothing about him #so yeah workhas been fun lately lmao

#total drama 2023 #total drama #total drama island 2024 #total drama island #tdi #tdi 2024 #remember when priya was actually a really fun character? it's getting a tad hard for me to remember.#and at this point i'd rather have seen ezekiel go from first boot to final six #they may have derailed millie early on too but at least she mercifully bowed out in the third episode!#now i'm begging for one of my favorites from last season to be eliminated so this trainwreck of a relationship arc can finally end!#to think that ripxel died for this #edit: WTF WAS THAT ELIMINATION?#damien got freaking robbed (both elimination-wise and screen time-wise)!#this season is absolutely falling apart at the seams!#why on earth are we regressing near all-stars and pahkitew island levels?#this is the worst td couple ever. i'm calling it.#mike and zoey were at least good for a season before getting all-stars'd by all-stars (and even they were the least of that season's woes)#this $h!tshow match was doomed from the start and is dragging the whole season down with it #i'm not even being ironic anymore when i saw ripxel would have been a better couple even if they stayed as smoochy as early-tda gidgette #the only upside is that season 3 is looking likely and at least can't collapse as badly as this #i'm really taking the risk of kimcartoon for this. c'mon man!
