Harrow is thoroughly haunted (also very mentally unhealthy due to her parents/culture’s practices)

There are a couple points to this theory crafting I have, but the basic statement is as such: Harrow is haunted by more than one revenant, at the very least The Sleeper and AL/The Corpse but likely way more, potentially including every one of the 200 ghosts Harrow’s parents killed to make her. I’d also like to note that this theory will discuss mental health a main subject of its theorizing. Having mental health issues or possessing certain traits that society deems mentally unhealthy is not a mark against your own character, or a reason to try and be normal by society’s standards. This theory will also discuss potential physiological causes for mental health issues. If you are sensitive to such discussions, this is probably not the theory for you to be reading on a bad day for your own mental health.   The first thing this theory hinged on is Ortus’ ability to contribute to the summoning of Matthias Nonias through, as Abigail says without the narrative challenging her, passion alone. This establishes that while most works of passion and people’s attempts to connect with their departed loved may not be enough to create a link, a notably obsessive work of passion and focus, one worked on for years, can have effects on The River, and Revenants summoned from it. Pretty simple, all you gotta accept for this one is that people with certain obsessions or fixations, the kinds that keep them thinking about someone for years, can help summon ghosts. The second thing this is hinged on is that when you summon/forge a bond through the method that Ortus did, you shape how the ghost will be summoned into reality. This is most easily demonstrated by Matthias Nonias commenting, multiple times, on the fact its strange that he is speaking in meter, that his behaviors in his duel with The Sleeper were not the normal ones of a trained, legendary fighter, and that as people took on/professed the belief in that work of epic poetry fanfiction was legit and could summon Matthias he actually managed to be summoned to the reality bubble they were in and impose specifically that fanfic’s rules on both Matthias and The Sleeper.  Third, this theory is hinged on the actions and mental state of Harrow the First/Ninth, and the actions/culture/beliefs of people surrounding her. First off, I would like to establish that Harrow has been exposed to conditions that would cause her to be likely to develop symptoms that are on the schizo-spectrum of disorders (schizophrenia, schizotypal, etc etc). The first of such conditions is actually the most important from a biology perspective: Harrow’s immediate family has a practice for keeping their secrets. When they wish to discuss the family business they draw a bath of cold saltwater, get in it, and do it from there. It is explicitly described as “freezing” in both Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth by Harrow herself. Repeat hypothermia is a physiological trigger that can cause a person to develop schizospectrum disorders, and I would argue that her parents exposed her to repeat hypothermia, and Harrow would confirm these baths have been going on since she learned to keep secrets (likely around 5-7). Second, we have contributing factors to this mental state, most notably is the Incense that is described in Gideon as being used by The Ninth House in their worship. If, and this is a big if given how little we know specifics, this incense was Frankincense or uses similar molecular structures (possible given the influence of Christianity over the Dademperor’s Cult), we would know that Harrow all her life has been exposed to a mild hallucinogen (and also antidepressant, but that effect of frankincense isn’t relevant), which while unless overexposed significantly (to the point it would cause some lung damage if done repeatedly) she would’t have hallucinations NORMALLY, we have already discussed why Harrow’s brain chemistry wouldn’t be normal and this could have an affect overall on the development of her mental health. We also know from Harrow’ behavior and information about her parents that she herself gives that she has been instilled with a rather potent guilt complex over the 200 dead who were sacrificed to make her (One of her prayers included “and let me be buried in 200 graves” ffs). More miscellaneous stuff to include in contributing factors to Harrow being predisposed towards guilt and hallucinations and fixations as well includes Harrow being around the dead and dying for her entire life, being a Necromancer, both bad ventilation due to the infrastructure of the Ninth House as well as exposure to a nerve agent that canonically throws your brain into destructive overdrive, and discovering The Corpse in The Locked Tomb (this last one being notable as having happened around the beginning of puberty or during giving her a reason that her death fixation might become what is in cannon called Corpse Lust). She’s a kid, basically, in a hormonal shitstorm of growing up: she doesn’t know how to stop her head from doing fuckshit to itself). In addition to her fixation on The Corpse however is the sheer amount of time she spent worrying about it, lusting after it, being comforted by hallucinations of it, and otherwise spending a large amount of her mental effort thinking about The Corpse one way or another. Now, lets braid these threads into a rope. We know that passion and obsession can make a legitimate metaphysical link to a revenant, allowing them to find their way back into Shallower waters or even the world through objects and ideas (such as an epic poem fanfic, and potentially people, but DEFINITELY prayers [poems and phrases repeated that cause certain patterns of thoughts) given the nature of what we’ve seen). We know that Harrow has spent a large amount of her life giving worship, strong emotion and most importantly obsession towards The Corpse/AL. Also, we know from Harrow the Ninth in direct statements by some spirit focused allies that Revenants can use any connection they have to the world to get back into it, even if that’s in a limited capacity. For good measure, we also know that Harrow’s been giving this treatment to a more nebulous idea of All The People Who Died To Allow Her To Be Born/A Necromancer, and we also know that she has more connections spiritually which likely support that 200 people as well. As such, my claim is this: Harrow is both mentally affected in a way similar to what she thinks is her stated insanity in that she does experience hallucinations, moments of paranoia and panic over very little/nothing, and so on (worth noting is that Harrow would be exceptionally well adapted for coping with this. These changes are physical almost purely, as Gideon while inside Harrow’s head and getting a show of her perceptions either can not tell that Harrow didn’t have a corpse under her bed, or didn’t know that a potentially fugue state ridden Harrow moved a corpse there (its very unclear what actually went down in that scene and there’s a lot potentially going down but Gideon experiences life as Harrow does and that is what’s important). On the metaphysical side of things though, Harrow is Haunted by at least 2 ghosts, likely many more. She wouldn’t know because she is bad at Spirit magic, and potentially could be having her ghosts give her an aversion toward learning it, but it is commented on by more than one capable spirit necromancer (Dademperor and Abigail). She has to be haunted by The Sleeper, as the plot literally revolves around that being a thing, but she also shows more signs of a haunting. Harrow loses one of the hallucinations that always has been present with her in times of stress when she leaves her physical body behind during the Resurrection Beast fight, but the same hallucination is also present when Gideon rides her body into The River, potentially being a saving factor for Harrow’s original body, the body that would actually have the connection to The Corpse. In addition, Harrow when she emerges from The River had a connection that she followed back to her home in the form of the tomb, and where her obsession previously slept, a body that could never have been moved by anyone but her, the Dademperor or the revenant herself. In addition, the Corpse gives her advice on things she could have never known about more than once, and generally tries to do things that Harrow would find helpful or supportive (even if that would be creepy to her, like “bringing her tea” during a conversation with someone). As such, we can say without a shadow of a doubt that Harrow is haunted by two people, The Sleeper who is latching onto her thoughts through magics, likely, and The Corpse/AL who is entering our reality primarily through Harrow’s thoughts as she figures out how to be a person again and is exposed to more things that would give her connections (note how she becomes more coherent and proactive after Dademperor reminisces about her, her only other strong connection to the world beyond Harrow and her corpse). We can also infer that after so much time thinking about all the people who died for her in terms of guilt and their lost lives that she might also have the revenants of a few angry children/teens/young adults holding on.  TLDR: Harrow’s got a ghost “girlfriend” (wildly unhealthy for her) that possesses Harrow’s hallucinations of her, is haunted by The Sleeper for the course of at least Harrow(the book) and is potentially haunted by the revenants of every person who died to make her birth/magic possible.

The Stamatin’s have ADHD, the meta post.

As someone with ADHD the Stamatin twins really stood out to me as having ADHD so I’ve decided to compile my reasons why I think they do.

This will be put under a cut since this is probably going to get long. There are some spoilers for both games but no end game stuff and only things related to the two and the characters closest to them.

As I get further in the games I may add on to this. So check the notes.

Also I will be posting a headcanon post for stuff that isn’t as supported by canon which shall be linked here once it’s up!

The Twins (As a unit)

While they are fictional characters so real life information may not apply I felt it was worth it to mention that twins are more likely to have ADHD vs non-twins and it’s more likely to have ADHD if your twin also has it.

They both have the habit of ending questions by repeating part of the question. “Do you understand? Do you?! ” & “Do you get it? Do you?” which as mentioned later on people with ADHD can be misunderstood frequently which could lead to double checking if they are being understood.

They both tend to hyperfocus on the polyhedron and it’s well being and status. It also could be a comfort item for the both of them.

Both are described as renaissance men, which is an archetype that frequently show signs of having ADHD. Here’s a post about Leonardo da Vinci possibly having ADHD.

ADHD people frequently are known for their unique and vast creativity, something neither Stamatin lacks in.

They are both very reliant on the other and won’t do major actions without knowing if the other will approve which could be a sign of rejection sensitive dysphoria.

I would say that he suffers from predominantly inattentive ADHD. He does certainly have other mental things going on (Depression, alcoholism, likely paranoia, and likely schizophrenia) which can make pointing out the things unique to ADHD more difficult but I will try.

From the design documents for P1: “-The walls are covered in spots of wine, paint and blood, traces of sleepless nights and creative search.”  People with ADHD tend towards having trouble sleeping or having a sleep cycle that differs from a neurotypical person. Also the quote (at least to me) makes it sound like he’s trying to bounce around different ideas hoping one will stick which is something common with ADHD people.

From the design documents for P2: “-At times, he seems to lose interest in what he’s talking about before finishing his sentence as if he’s given up all hope of being understood.” People with ADHD tend to have a train of thought that goes fast and in ways that others may not understand leading to feeling misunderstood or assuming that they will be.

In Pathologic 2 after Grace has come under his care Artemy can speak to him about an idea he’s had and mention some fair and reasonable ideas he could have had, which he completely ignores as he tells Artemy about his pit idea. This could be an incident of hyperfocusing on a project/idea for a project.

One reason for Peter drinking (besides from his depression and alcoholism) could be to help quiet down his head. Sometimes for someone with ADHD their thoughts can get so overwhelming or go so fast even they can’t keep up. One quote from him is “Bad twyrine makes your head feel like lead. Good.”

There is a connection between ADHD and addiction along with having addictive tendencies.

Part of his calmer, more thoughtful persona (as opposed to his brother) could be that he needs more time to process things and come up with a response.

His coat could act as a pressure stim (while stimming is more classically associated  with autism it also shows up with ADHD)

This one may be a stretch but the developers decided to out of the animations they had in the beta the Chickadee ones fit him the best. The behavior in the animations could be seen as stimming.

I would say he suffers from predominantly hyperactive-impulsive ADHD. It is easier to point out things for him as he deals with better known symptoms of ADHD and has less co-morbid conditions than Peter, although there are less bullet points for the same reason.

He can experience emotional dysregulation, see day 5 of the changeling route where he yells at her due to her request for Peter to join the humbles. It would be understandable to be upset but he takes it way too far

There is a lot of evidence of his recklessness and lack of forethought but one very good example is on day 7 of the Bachelor’s route where upon being told that some “her” had been taken he immediately assumed it was Eva and then ran off to try to rescue her without even stopping to think, only realizing what had actually happened after the action was over.

From the P1 design document: “Wild, hedonistic, energetic. Fearless, a glutton for pleasure, fierce and jovial.” Those are all traits that can be an extension of the inability to regulate responses and dopamine which can lead a ADHD person to seek out more thrilling and intense experiences (along with bounce from one hyperfocus to another).

Also from the P1 design document: “-He works in chaotic and unstable surges.” That is literally one of the most well known and easy to see symptoms of ADHD there are and it’s mentioned right in the design document.

Meltdowns (an outward response to over-stimulation, sensory overload, stress) are more common than shutdowns for him, usually resulting in him activating his Quirk unknowingly on those trying to help him if they talk to him. 

Was likely bullied during elementary school, for both his Quirk and him showing his autistic traits. So, he decided to start suppressing his traits from then on to avoid being bullied and has been ever since.

It's clear Anna and Elsa have loved each other since ALWAYS, because they grew up together (partially), and I've seen a lot of fics develop their romantic relationship from that point, their feelings evolving towards that direction.

But i wonder, if they didn't know each other, what would they find attractive about the other? What would first attract them to each other? What would make them love each other? Because non-familial love is always conditional (as all healthy non-familial love is), so there must be a reason for them to love each other. Shared experience and the gradual development of a bond is a great answer but I'm thinking more about the particular personality traits, for lack of a better word, that make them want to spend time together or even like each other at all.

I can very easily see why someone would be attracted to Anna because ngl she's pretty much my type. Funny, energetic, idealistic, a heart full of love and kindness and courage. Not afraid to get dirty or engage in risky physically activity. I think what I admire the most about her was her willingness to do the right thing, no matter how painful. Watching her try to destroy her own home simply because it was the correct thing to do sent chills down my spine because thats exactly what I admire in a comrade. Someone willing to sacrifice individual happiness for the good of the community.

But for Elsa? I mean, most of her character development revolves around her powers and the trauma related to them. It's reached a point where it's impossible to tell where the powers end and Elsa begins. I do think this is intentional and it's not a bad writing decision, even I personally would rather explore who she is as a person and a human being in a way that doesn't revolve entirely around her powers and trauma.

I remember making a post about it? You can read it here and it's basically about how Elsa deserves better than becoming a norse godess: she deserves to he a normal woman among normal people. It makes more sense in the post go read it

I mean from canon we Uuuh well this is going to sound like a no brainer but Elsa is a very careful person. With other people not with herself lmao but you can see in every scene with how much care she treats others. This is usually physical care, because she was raised to believe emotions didn't matter and physical safety was the most important thing, and this is why she repeately ends up hurting people's feelings, all in an attempt to keep then physically safe (rejecting Anna at the party TWICE, both events clearly hurting both. Sending Anna away on the canoe (NOT A KAYAK), which again is painful for both sisters). But if you look at the bigger picture you can observe there's much more than that. From the beginning she spoils her little sister and takes care of her as kids, and through Frozen Fever she cranks up the spoiling to eleven, because she actually loves to see Anna happy. It's very painful for Elsa to reject her. You can see it at the party and during the canoe scene. Actually she loves to see EVERYONE happy. At the end of Frozen i, during OFA and at the beginning of frozen ii she spends time with her people literally making toys for children like fucking Santa Claus, creating an ice skating rink in her own backyard and organizing a fest for everyone to eat for fucking free (two fests, actually. maybe three? Can't remember) i mean what kind of queen does this?? She's way too nice. Even when people are trying to kill her her first reaction is to beg them to stay away so she won't hurt them. She makes it clear she's hiding in the mountains not because she's scared of being hurt (WHICH IS WHAT GRAND PABBIE PREDICTED WOULD HAPPEN). She's hiding because she doesn't want to cause harm. She's trying to fucking protect the people who want to kill her. In frozen ii her first reaction to seeing the tiny dragon is trapped is to offer him a hand and play with him because she's just that nice. She later cuddles a baby reindeer. Oh and in FF she's being mom friend on main by mothering kristoff and olaf as well. Remember she bought him a new sledge and invented a whole new job for him when she could do it herself with her magic? Now she's wiping the paint from his face. You know, like a mom. She even does it in thay gross mom way, licking her thumb and smearing the saliva all over ew ew my mom did that every time i got food on my face its gross. I wonder how kristoff didn't get a cold too that shit's contagious. Anyways, conclussion: while i think her desire to protect people was exacerbated by her trauma, i do think she always had it on her. She likes making people happy. She makes fucking toys for children is she a queen or a toy factory. She likes to spoil everyone around her. And I think this is partially because she wants people to like her. You can see how much it hurts her when people think badly of her ("you only know how to shut people out"). Later, seeing her people scared of her is what makes her run away. Hans telling her not to be the monster everyone thinks she is is what stops her and snaps her back into reality. No one likes to be disliked, but I think Elsa is particularly sensitive to this. And you can see her at her happiest in two different situations:

When she's being loved and cherished by her people (with Anna by her side)

And when she's free and in the wild.

Which leads me to my second point: Elsa is a horse girl

Ok but apart from being a horse girl you can see she... really enjoys being outside, and being free, and exploring the unknown. I'm thinking about LIG, SY and in part yeah ITU. She seems to actually enjoy physical activity like running and probably also hiking? Being away from society seems to be very stimulating for her which, first of all same. If i could live in a glacier i would i completely understand her choice because that's every girl's dream: live in the ice AND study history all day. What else could you possibly want? This is actually when she's at her highest energy. Being introverted doesn't mean you have low energy it doesn't mean jack shit which is why I think I can safely say Elsa is a kinda high energy person actually. Particularly when she's happy (hello??? Frozen Fever??), and what seems to bring the most excitement to her is to be outdoors and in nature. You know like a horse girl. She sings and dances and she's a huge dork who likes to play in the snow and ride horses and sleep on moving sledges and cuddle smelly baby reindeer and climb mountains. It does take her a bit to come out of her shell tho. You can see how stiff she is during the charades scene. But by the end of Frozen i she's dancing with her sister in the ice, surrounded by the entire kingdom.

Shes highly sensitive too. Like I mean this is a no brainer. And her lack of emotional intelligence doesn't help. But if you focus more on how strongly she feels and less on how little control she has over her emotions in frozen i at least you can appreciate how kind her heart is. Did i mention she makes toys for random kids like santa claus? But seriously, she doesn't have a mean spirited bone in her body. Apart from making Anna dance with the duke of weaselton (Oooh mischevious little shit). She's ALWAYS feeling things and VERY STRONGLY. ALL THE TIME. Its like she doesn't have a neutral mode. She's either crying of happiness and dancing like a hippie or having a mental breakdown. I can only imagine she experiences love, wonder, tenderness, care, excitement, indignation, surprise, grief... all so intensely. Her view of the world must be through a filter of constant emotion. When everything elicits such a strong reaction in her heart, she must experience the world in a very special way.

She's also an architecture nerd. She made a whole ice castle by herself in like a minute. Which means she's also a math nerd. She likes geography and physics. This is canon. She built a castle by herself.

She also giggles when awkward or nervous or maybe embarassed (but not scared) (sources, FF, that scene when kai startles her and she freezes her own hands).

Now i'm thinking about about a very famous architect visiting Arendelle and the mighty legendary ice queen giggling like a little girl and fiddling with her hands as she's organizing the welcome and making sure everything is PERFECT because she's going to meet someone she admires. See? Can you picture that scene? Yeah that has more personality than some of her scenes in f2

Oh right and she's also a hardcore perfectionist. She has high standards for herself and she gets frustrated and dissapointed if she can't meet them. Observe how she doesn't hold anyone but herself to these standards. Just look at the first scene in FF, how much pressure she puts in herself to make the PERFECT CAKE DECORATION but she's more accepting of Kristoff and Olaf's imperfections.

Kinda delving into headcanon territory but remember that comic with Anna separating all the blue M&Ms bc she knows those are Elsa's favorite so she can eat them all in front of her as revenge for shutting her out, and Elsa is having a philosophical breakdown at 8 in her room and Anna angrily eating all the blue M&Ms snaps her back into reality? Yep that's her. Elsa thinks too much. But she gets stuck in her ideas and doesn't end up doing anything unless she's pushed to it. Compare to Anna, who might be less thoughtful but more active, coming up with plans and solutions on the spot (not all of which are good but at least they're SOMETHING) while Elsa philosophizes too much and ends up doing nothing. But the scene that made me think of this was when, after her parents tell her the story of the magic forest, Anna goes "that was EPIC" while Elsa looks down and very quietly she asks what happened to the forest and Ahtohallan yep that's bc she thinks too much and also she's an enneagram 6

Speaking of which if i had to type i think her tritype would be... 6w7, 1w2, 5w4? In that order. Yep she's a 6w7 like Rapunzel. I thought about typying her as a 6w5 but i think her 5 wing comes out the most when she's repressing herself and hiding and concealing and not feeling and all that shit. When she's free and happy she's acting much more like a 7. Whoever said Anna is a 6 and Elsa is a 4 can get out of my blog bc Anna is clearly a 2. Probably. I think. Conclussion: these are some of the reasons why someone (including Anna) could fall in love with Elsa. In the movie Anna loves Elsa bc she's her sister but if her love was conditional, like most healthy love is, i think these could be the reasons why she would love her, platonically or romantically. Basically she's too nice, was probably be the kindest and most sensitive queen ever, and she's a nerd, and she's a horse girl, and she giggles when nervous (v important). And also she's a perfectionist.

Character Ask: Caranthir

@fefe-homu-akemi, @floralegium, and Anonymous asked for Caranthir, so here goes!

Favorite Thing: I wrote a pretty lengthy defense of Caranthir, who I believe was misrepresented by the narrator of The Silmarillion. I’m not going to rehash that now, but one of the points I make is that he, along with Finrod Felagund, is among the most cosmopolitan of the Noldor: He forms positive relationships with many groups of people outside his own culture. Where Finrod is lauded for this, however, the same actions in Caranthir are downplayed or negatively represented.

Least Favorite Thing: For all of the Fëanorians so far, I’ve discussed their violence for this item, so let’s consider that boilerplate at this point. For Caranthir specifically, I wish he hadn’t told off his damned cousins about their palling around with Thingol. It’s a regrettable moment that Pengolodh seems to lean on heavily in his assessment of Caranthir and that looms large in the imaginations of fans as well, when they take Pengolodh’s word or, in the case of fanworks creators, otherwise develop a character that would act like this routinely rather than looking at his other actions (such as his success in relating to diverse people).

Favorite Line: “Then Caranthir looked kindly upon Men and did Haleth great honour ...” (The Silmarillion, “Of the Coming of Men into the West”)

This is evidence of the Favorite Thing but also ... man oh man, there is so much mystery embedded in those two words “great honour.” Is it simply what The Silmarillion tells us he offered her? Or is there more there? Up to and including a romantic relationship?

brOTP: Caranthir is very much a one-man wolfpack in my mind. In fact, given the number of positive relationships he forged with other people, I imagine him wearily doing his best to behave to cultivate and maintain those connections because he knows he has to but silently shaking his fist at the universe for putting him, of all people, in such an ironic position.

(In this, I relate to him a lot. I’m deeply introverted. And I’m also a middle-school teacher, and a good one--I won Teacher of the Year last year at my school. I excel at building relationships with my students, and not just the ones who are like me. So I run the gamut from warm-hearted and constantly smiling with my kiddos to a snarling misanthrope at home. I’m exaggerating a little on the last one but, yeah, I get Caranthir.)

OTP: I love Haleth/Caranthir, but my OTP for Caranthir is his wife, Taryindë (as she is called in my verse). They grew up together, both were rather awkward (really awkward, in Caranthir’s case) and experimented with each other as teenagers, and eventually married. They had two daughters, who were born in Middle-earth and survived through the First Age.

There are spoilers for future stories ahead.

Taryindë went to the Nirnaeth with her husband but agree not to ride into battle because, after all, they had two youngish children and one of their parents should survive to see them into adulthood. Only, in the grand tradition of Tolkien’s women, she did ride into battle, unbeknownst to Caranthir. When she found him unconscious on the battlefield, she defended his body with her own and saved his life.

When he woke up, she was gone. He never learned what happened to her.

(Yes, I will write this story someday but at the rate I’m going I’ll be about 73.)

nOTP: I mean, I guess Nerdanel again? I really don’t do the hardcore shipping thing where liking one pairing more than others automatically rules the others out. Caranthir is sexually precocious on the sly in my verse--this idea is explored most fully in The Sovereign and the Priest--so my imagination has already gone all sorts of places.

Random Headcanon: It’s not terribly random because I feel like it’s the elephant in the room where my Caranthir is concerned. It’s definitely the most obvious fanon that my writing has created: the idea that Caranthir was unusually sensitive to the thoughts and emotions of others. He is also not fully bound by time: He is able to perceive things in the past and the future the way that you or I could look off into the distance in place.

I’ve written many times before about where this idea came from. Essentially, I was trying to explain his animosity to the sons of Finarfin, which didn’t seem to make much sense to me. As far as Finwëans go, they are pretty harmless, at least based on what we see in the texts.

(Had I tackled this question a few years later, once I had access and had read parts of the HoMe, I probably would have gone with him being jealous of their friendship with Celegorm and Curufin, while he--stuck in the middle--was overlooked. But I was a baby in the Silm fandom when I tackled this question, hadn’t read any of the HoMe, and developed my characterization of Caranthir as a result.)

Because of his heightened sensitivity to others--a trait we know ran in Finarfin’s branch of the family tree as well--Angrod and Aegnor were able to be unkind to him without others perceiving it. Much of this centered on the fact that Caranthir had a crush on their brother’s betrothed, Amarië, which they found out about. And Caranthir was very awkward and had trouble controlling his emotions--being a constant radio tower for others’ unfiltered feelings will do that to a person--so he provided them with plenty of fodder.

(I also honestly wanted to write mindspeak in a way that wasn’t a bunch of characters sitting around and thinking at each other, which was how it was usually written at the time. I mean, imagine explaining taste or smell to a being that doesn’t have it; I tried to do that with Caranthir’s perceptions.)

Anyway, from this came my Caranthir, who is strange to the point that he is off-putting to others; in my recent Cradle of Stars, Anairë calls him “the wild one who’d been born half-mad.” Hence, also, Pengolodh’s eagerness to depict him as angry--he certainly would have looked that way at times, to those who did not know him well.

Of course, I’ve since taught many a Caranthir. @heartofoshun first suggested that Caranthir was on the autism spectrum. I never intended that reading but certainly don’t mind him being read that way at all! I’ve worked most of my career with boys with emotional disabilities and have a lot of empathy and love for people for whom interacting with the world isn’t always easy. In retrospect, even though it wasn’t my intention at the time, I’m glad I gave one of them a prominent place in my verse.

Unpopular Opinion: I suppose my argument that he was not as awful as Pengolodh claims wouldn’t be popular among the anti-Fëanorians, who have always been a significant part of the Silm fandom and who lean rather heavily on the belief (the word is very intentionally used) that the Fëanorians were not fallen but evil to begin with.

Otherwise, my Caranthir has been popular over the years, which is ironic, because in the conservative moment in Tolkien fandom history when I began writing, I was convinced that I would be excoriated for my writing of him so beyond the bounds of what Tolkien gave us (although always informed by the canon). The exact opposite happened for the most part.

Song I Associate with the Character: Bush, “Glycerine.” (Actually, the much of the angsty ‘90s alternative catalogue could fit Caranthir. He has Stabbing Westward and Linkin Park on permanent repeat.)

QUESTIoNS FOR YOUR OCs

What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do? For hours! He’s a supremely lazy fox when he wants to be.

How easy is it for your character to laugh? Super easy, his dry wit is his coping mechanism for everything. A genuine laugh is harder to come by. 

How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?) He watches Zootube videos. Specifically scary stuff. He likes being talked at. 

How easy is it to earn their trust? Even after meeting Judy, it’s difficult for him to open up and trust other mammals. He trusts the other ZPD members because he has too but a few months of being around his little bunny friend does not erase the years of being purposely alone.  

How easy is it to earn their mistrust? Easy, but earning mistrust means he trusted you in the first place. Good luck getting him to admit that. 

Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable? Well, yeah. He won’t go too far though. 

What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling? Nostalgia isn’t really good for mammals who didn’t have good childhoods. He loves theme parks and scary stories because they were his escape from his reality during his childhood though. 

What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child Probably running around and pulling pranks on his sister?

Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word? He sees swearing as an admission of defeat (somebody got to him ) so it’s seldom. His first cuss word was f*ck. He was maybe thirteen and thought it was funny. 

What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them? That he was fine being alone. Now that he knows what friendship is, he couldn’t imagine anything else. 

How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)? He asks questions. A lot of questions. He has no problem making efforts to learn. his curiosity is unquenchable.  

How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach? He finds something to scratch it with. 

What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color? Green, but he kinda looks like a Christmas tree. I prefer him in blue-but I prefer everybody in blue. Haha 

What animal do they fear most? Polar Bears? Big mammals, he has a small fear of being squished. 

How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first? He doesn’t really have to rehearse, but he doesn’t speak when rash. He makes sure the smart, witty, but aloof facade is what people get. 

What makes their stomach turn? Strong smells, especially bad ones 

Are they easily embarrassed? Not really

What embarrasses them? Getting caught having emotions, or being socially awkward. It’s a rarity that only happens when he’s already uncomfortable. 

What is their favorite number? 7? 

If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so? He’s not gonna answer. He’ll flash a smirk and say they were all useless. 

Why do they get up in the morning? To go make money so that he can travel.  

How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? Aloof. 

How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)? He hauls ass and doesn’t stop until he achieved something better than whatever he was envious of. All without showing a hint of the actual emotion.

Is sex something that they’re comfortable speaking about? To whom? Completely. He doesn’t have time for modesty. 

What are their thoughts on marriage? It’s as useless as a relationship. 

What is their preferred mode of transportation? Walking, when it’s nice out. Driving when he wants to go fast. He hates the subway.  

What causes them to feel dread? Any type of emotional vulnerability. 

Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth? Tell it to him straight. Anything else is useless. 

Do they usually live up to their own ideals? He thought he was, now he’s not so sure. 

Who do they most regret meeting? Sam Walton.  

Who are they the most glad to have met? Judy

Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke? Not really. 

Could they be considered lazy? Yes, and he’s darn proud of it too.

How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt? On the rare occasions, he gets close enough to feel guilt, it’s hard for him to shake.  

How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive? He’s supportive of Judy.

Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap? He doesn’t want it. Period. It leads to trouble. 

Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (like anagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)? He repeats the list until he commits it to memory. 

What memory do they revisit the most often? He does his best to never think of his past. When his mind wanders to it he reaches for any distraction he can. 

How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people? Not very, it’s like a glaring light in his face. Even if he doesn’t say anything about it.  

How sensitive are they to their own flaws? He gets shocked when people are actually able to read him well enough to touch on his insecurities. He’ll sulk, but eventually, admit to it and try to work on it. 

How do they feel about children? Eh...not a fan  

How badly do they want to reach their end goal? He doesn’t know he wants it.

If someone asked them to explain their sexuality, how would they do so? He’s pretty much an “I like what I like” kind of guy. He like’s girls of all species. It’s not really an accepted practice, but he makes no point to hide it.

A) Why are you excited about this character? I’m excited because I love this character. He is by far one of my favorite Disney guys.  B) What inspired you to create them? I was inspired to write before him because I love making non-emotional characters have emotions. I’m evil like that.   C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story? I did flip between him and Judy for awhile, but I always leaned toward him.  D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look? I’m doing my best to keep as close to canon as possible while adding my own little twist.  E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you? I’d probably annoy him while I fawned over him. I like him because he’s the kind of guy I typically fall for. Go ask my man. Haha  F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)? Pride, excitement, a small twisted need to torture him?  G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most? His wit, mainly because I’m worried about writing it.   H) What trait do you admire most? His ability to stay calm and think through his emotions. It’s a character flaw but I have the opposite of his. I can’t control my emotional At.All.  I) Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe? Yes, I love Zootopia.  J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character? No? What is this?

Permissions

Shipping?  Yes.  Singleship per verse with limited verses.  Please note - as stated on the rules page, orientation is typically listed as what the muses think they are.

Duplicates? Multiple ‘Yuis’?  What about character that aren’t on the dedicated castmates list?  Yes.  You can thrust Subaru at Subaru.  There’s also no issue with duplicates of canon, crossover, etc. characters that Subaru is already interacting with.  You want it, you got it.   To prevent destroying the validity of duplicate muses, I will sometimes think of things as ‘A Kanato did this’ instead of ‘Kanato did this’, which is a very subtle difference but prevents another muse from having to deal with the blame of an event they were not responsible for.  This will only be differentiated as necessary within writing.  I repeat: all duplicate muses will be treated with respect, not as ‘fakes’.  Any Sakamaki brother is a brother of his, regardless of how many Kanatos there are (for example).  We’re just going to, uh, slide past that as often as possible (and occasionally make jokes).

Multiple Subarus will be treated as though they’d somehow wandered into one’s world or the other via some enchanted, strange object or doorway in the Sakamaki household.  This allows them to interact, but prevents the concept that one is a ‘true’ Subaru over the other.  You have been warned.

Fighting?  A-Okay.  I’ve done a lot of fighting roleplay but it was in the past and I’m way more interested in the storytelling of it.  It’s better that we discuss the end result beforehand for smoother sailing, but we can improv it as well.  I do this from a storytelling perspective.

Harming? A-Okay!  Just be aware that this muse may harm or kill yours in turn!

Killing? A-Okay!  Please be aware, however, that should the need or desire to continue the verse arise, the death scene will be considered a what-if.  In addition, it is very difficult to kill this muse due to the pureblood resurrection abilities.

Can we send shippy memes / etc.? Sure, we can still explore what-ifs, drabbles and oneshot threads, but the main focus will be on the storyline here!

Can we know Yui has Cordelia’s heart, is possibly turning into a vampire, is surrounded by vampires, etc. and reference this to Subaru? On a case-by-case basis.  It should be discovered organically if it’s not something your character would be able to know already.  There’s plenty of situations where this would make sense.

Can we know about Subaru’s past before interacting?  No, not unless you have genuine reasons for it like being one of his brothers.

Can we have characters comment on the events of the timeline? Yes, if they “catch sight of”, “overhear a rumor”, “a familiar saw X”, or any other sensible reason, then characters can be aware of and comment on events.  I wholly encourage characters participate in Subaru’s life!  Please tell the story with me!

Can we rescue Yui Komori from the Sakamaki household? Unlikely.  At best, if you succeed in the first place, it’s entirely likely that they will find you, they will take Yui back, and they will kill one or both of you for this.  Or the Mukamis might take advantage of the situation!  Obviously, the exception here is the Mukamis, who are entirely expected to attempt this from time to time.

Can we reference interactions we’ve had with your Kanato, etc. to Subaru?  I mean...sure?  If you want?  I’m fine with using my muses for plot and timeline advancements for myself and those I interact with (within limits) but I’d also prefer to not be my Ayato’s Kanato and vice versa, so this would probably be limited.  You can still act like what’s happened has happened, though.

Appearance

Subaru has silverish light-lavender, whitish hair with reddish tones, making his hair color not too dissimilar from his brother Kanato’s far-less-pale “purple”.  He has scarlet red eyes with a slight pinkish hue.  

In HAUNTED DARK BRIDAL, he is usually seen wearing a black jacket with a red shirt underneath which has a brown belt around it.  The ends of the red shirt appear to be ripped/shredded.  He also wears black jeans and a necklace that is wrapped twice around his neck with a golden-colored key on it.

In MORE, BLOOD, he wears a black jacket with a black shirt underneath.  He also wears black pants and has a black sweater around his waist.  He wears the necklace with this outfit as well.

His school uniform consists of the black school blazer with the sleeves rolled up to his elbow and a black shirt underneath that is ripped near the bottom and a white shirt underneath it which is longer and is also ripped at the bottom.  There is a small chain loop on the bottom left side of the jacket.  He wears it with the standard uniform pants.  He also wears white heeled boots.  He wears a wrist band on his left arm.  He wears the necklace with this as well.

Personality

A loner, Subaru sticks to himself and tries to avoid getting involved.  He sees no point in getting involved in the mess that is his family and often attempts to avoid it until he cannot resist some kind of response.

A delinquent, Subaru is violent and loves getting into fights.  He frequently breaks objects with little regard.  In contrast, he is gentle, but it’s buried underneath considering himself filthy, ignorant, unwanted and generally awful.  Rather than deliberately show his nicer traits, he spends most of his time trying to push anyone and everyone away and out of his life so he can remain alone.  

He absolutely abhors his father and loves his mother very much, but his feelings with his mother are...complicated.  His mother is prone to extreme episodes that intensely frame how she sees and responds to both Karlheinz, her brother and husband, as well as Subaru himself, their child.  She would often ask him to kill her or attempt to harm him.  Originally blaming only his father, when Subaru tried to protect her from Karlheinz she rejected him, slapped him hard and ran to his father’s arms.  Subaru’s feelings towards women is...confused, at best.  At worst, he finds them difficult to trust and believe in.

History

CHILDHOOD. The only child of Christa and Karlheinz and the youngest of the Sakamaki boys, much of his life was an early rollercoaster.  His mother was extremely mentally unstable after realizing that Karlheinz never loved her and only wanted to use her to create an incest child for the sake of his experiments.  She hated Subaru before he was even born because of this, considering him impure and filthy.  Christa frequently begged Subaru to kill her or would try to harm him herself.  Once Subaru realized that his mother truly loved Karlheinz to the point of being willing to harm Subaru for trying to protect her from him, Subaru was floored, unable to know what such a woman really wanted.

Eventually, he met his brothers at a dinner party where all three wives brought the children to.  His first thoughts on the siblings were that he absolutely did not want to get involved with them.

NEAR CURRENT.  Karlheinz manipulated circumstances to keep tossing experimental sacrificial brides at his children.  None could endure the blood loss, physical and emotional torment.  The sacrificial brides were too fragile and the Sakamakis broke their toys.  

CURRENT. A single sacrificial bride is surviving and enduring: Yui Komori.  Whichever brother obtains her will become the Sakamaki heir.  Without directly entering into a “relationship” with any of the Sakamakis, she endures her stay there.

KYLO REN IS ANAKIN SKYWALKER REBORN

So, if this makes zero sense or is just rehashing things that have already been said then I apologize, but I thought of this theory today and thought it was cool enough to share. Also it wasn’t beta’d so any mistakes (factual or spelling/grammatical ones) are mine.

Anakin Skywalker is believed to have been conceived through midichlorians, destined to be the chosen one. What if Ben is too and Han’s not really his father? It’d line up perfectly with the daddy issues that seem so inherent to the Star Wars saga.

Now at first glance I am fully aware of just how crazy this freaking sounds, but stay with me here.

In “Episode I: The Phantom Menace,” Shmi Skywalker tells Qui-Gon Jinn that Anakin has no father, and she “can’t explain what happened.”

When Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan first meet Anakin at age 9 they’re completely taken aback by the power he seems to posses, aka how strong he is with the force. Later in TPM the following conversation takes place:

OBI-WAN : Strange. The transmission seems to be in good order, but the reading’s off the chart…over twenty thousand.

QUI-GON : That’s it then

OBI-WAN : Even Master Yoda doesn’t have a midichlorian count that high!

QUI-GON : No Jedi has.

OBI-WAN : What does it mean?

QUI-GON : I’m not sure.

So clearly Anakin is something new even to the Jedi and even from such a young age it seems clear that his powers are immense.

Throughout the prequel trilogy it’s believed among the Jedi that Anakin is the one meant to bring balance to the force so that both sides can finally live in harmony and maybe that’s how it started out. Maybe that’s why he was initially created, but it turned out having that much power puts stress on anyone and especially Anakin whose been told his whole life that he has power no one else does and that he’s special, the chosen one. That the Jedi are even somewhat afraid of him.

When he later has children of his own Anakin messes with the force’s plan to have him be the ultimate power, first of all Anakin goes dark which the Jedi had known were a possibility for him from day one. They were even reluctant to train him for this very reason. Secondly, through having children Anakin passes on some of that power of his and that may permanently mess with the force’s plans.

What if Anakin were never supposed to have any children? In RotJ Obi-Wan tells Luke:

“The Emperor knew as I did that if Anakin were ever to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him.”

So when Anakin goes dark and it’s up to the twins (although let’s face it, mainly Luke. Because Lucas is sexist) to be the ones to bring that ultimate balance to the force.

This is what Anakin was ultimately destined (but failed) to do. But what if it was never supposed to be Luke and Leia that brought that balance? After all, going off the theory that that was Anakin’s job, the twins were never even supposed to exist, because Anakin wasn’t supposed to form attachments, fall in love or have children.

His sole purpose was to bring balance to the force, but instead it fell upon his son to handle this task and he did, temporarily. If Luke was never the chosen one, if that was always supposed to be Anakin, then  maybe that’s the reason why the battle of Endor didn’t ultimately mean peace for the galaxy, the reason the war continued.

Luke was never the chosen one, he was merely a buffer (a great buffer though, I LOVE Luke with all my heart believe me!) to temporarily bring some balance, but not all of it, that’s Anakin.

So what if the force decided to give Anakin a second change by re-birthing him as Ben/Kylo?

Let’s look at the facts, Leia is one of the Skywalker twins, as such she’s directly related to Anakin and essentially part of him, part of the force’s little miracle child.

Ben/Kylo is born a few months short of a year after the battle of Endor when Anakin Skywalker dies and Luke burns his father’s body.

This means Leia must’ve fallen pregnant shortly after the battle, aka shortly after her father’s death. (I could be slightly off on the timing here because I haven’t actually read any of the canon books set around this time yet and my internet searches gave little in terms of an actual timeframe on Leia’s pregnancy)

So what if the midichlorian cocktail that made up Anakin just reformed to make up Kylo instead and have Leia be the new vessel. (ew, sexist much? It’s like when they  called the mother of Satan’s child “the container” on Supernatural, so sorry Leia!!)

In TPM Shmi talks about how she couldn’t explain what happened and that she suddenly just found herself pregnant one day, much like mother Mary.

For Leia it must’ve been different, at the point in time she was with Han so she and everyone else just assumed the kid was his and why wouldn’t they? It’s not like she’d cheated (Noo you nasties, Rey isn’t the child of Luke and Leia, get out of my damn house!! And yes, I legitimately saw this theory on the internet while conducting research for this *pukes*) instead it was more like a Joseph/Mary/Jesus situation, only in this case no one knew about it because they (including Leia herself) had no reason to doubt Ben’s natural conception.

But much like Shmi Leia is able to tell something is different about her baby boy right from the start.

“Her baby boy, him she can effortlessly feel inside of her. Not just in the way that all mothers can feel the living creature within, but she can feel him with the invisible hands of the force: With it she senses the burgeoning of his mind, she knows his mood, she can tell that he is healthy. He’s less of a human-shaped thing and more of a pulsing, living band of light. Light that sometimes dims, that sometimes is thrust through with a vein of darkness. She tells herself that it’s normal; Luke said to her, ‘Leia, we all have that.’ He explained the brighter the light the darker the shadow. Right now her son is upset, tumbling inside her, as if he can’t get comfortable. His light flickering with the dark.”

-          Aftermath: Empire’s End

Here we find out that Leia is concerned about the darkness she can sense in Kylo before he’s even born and Luke tries to reassure her by basically quoting Sirius Black and saying: “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”

 This is similar to the arguments used against the Jedi council’s fear of Anakin’s power when they (at first) refuse to let Anakin be trained as a Jedi in TPM. 

YODA : …Correct you were, Qui-Gon. 

 MACE WINDU : His cells contain a high concentration of midichlorians. 

 KI-ADI : The Force is strong with him. 

 QUI-GON : He’s to be trained, then. 

 MACE WINDU : No. He will not be trained.

 QUI-GON : No??!! 

 MACE WINDU : He is too old. There is already too much anger in him. 

 QUI-GON : He is the chosen one…you must see it. 

 What Qui-Gon is saying is that though Anakin has very strong emotions that may very well be his downfall he also has great potential and all that matters is which of these traits he’s choses (or is trained) to act upon and if trained correctly he will bring balance.

 This is pretty much also what Luke says to Leia in the quote above when she worries about the darkness already so prevalent in the unborn Kylo. 

 Also can we talk about the bolded part of that quote for a second? 

Because “a pulsing light thrust through by darkness” doesn’t sound like a human child to me, that sounds like a fucking demon. And yeah maybe one could argue that because Leia is highly force-sensitive this is just her sensing that Ben is too, that he has both the dark side and the light side within him, just like all force sensitive people (or just people in general) but something about that quote still seems unsettling to me.

 It seems like little baby Ben possesses much stronger powers than your average force sensitive kid the fact that the presence of darkness within him worries Leia who herself is force-sensitive seems wrong somehow. Don’t quote me on how the force works or anything, but I’m pretty sure that a force-sensitive person such as Leia would be quite used to sensing the force within other people and when one does sense the force it is reasonable to assume that one senses both the good and the bad side. Because to quote the late great Sirius again: “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us.” So the fact that the amount of darkness within Kylo worries Leia even before his birth is quite telling to me. I mean yeah, maybe Leia doesn’t know as much about the force and its inner working as Luke does after all she was never formally trained, but I still feel like she’d be able to sense when someone’s darkness is alarmingly present, not to mention if that’s the case in her own child.

 Also “He’s less of a human-shaped thing” creeps me out too, again demon. No, but seriously: “a pulsing, living band of light. Light that sometimes dims, that sometimes is thrust through with a vein of darkness.” That sounds like the force in its truest and rawest form to me.

Almost as if, to use the cocktail metaphor again, while in Leia’s belly the force cocktail was “making itself human” as it had done with Shmi and Anakin so many years ago.

 If we move forward to Ben as an adult, when he’s already Kylo Ren and has turned to the dark side there is the popular question in the fandom why Anakin’s force ghost never visits Kylo or at least tries to guide him in any way? Well, what if the reason for this is that he can’t because he doesn’t have a force ghost anymore since he’s Kylo now and Kylo isn’t dead. 

 It also makes sense why Kylo would hold so much nostalgia for Vader’s things, such as the old, but iconic helmet he rescues from Starkiller base, because these things used to be his, Kylo’s. Almost a part of him, before. When his name was Anakin. 

 Or maybe Kylo doesn’t remember his old life as Anakin/Vader, but it makes sense that he’d wanna learn as much as possible about it so that he avoids repeating any previous mistakes (such as having children that weaken him, sorry twins…) 

 Just like Vader however Kylo missed the memo on the whole “with great power comes great responsibility”-thing that uncle Luke (And previously master Obi-Wan when Kylo was Anakin) has been trying to teach him, instead of using his power as the force intended to bring balance to the force he again uses it to find power for himself and become a dictator. 

This indicates of course that the force is failing again, but maybe Anakin wasn’t supposed to be alone, maybe he was always supposed to have a foil to help keep the balance. In this incarnation that could be Rey, but previously is was most likely Obi-Wan (although that might be a theory for another time, how Anakin and Obi/Kylo and Rey represent the two different sides of the force and how they’re supposed to exist together, ground each other and keep the balance.) 

 So yeah, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker reborn, given a second change if you will, after all wasn’t star wars always supposed to focus largely on Darth Vader’s redemption?

Claptrap: A Somewhat Extensive Autistic Headcanon

aka the Autistic Claptrap Masterpost First off: my starting premise. My thoughts on Claptrap are that he is (accidentally) written as autistic, and the trait he exhibits as mockable and socially awkward are mostly autistic traits. Claptrap is written as a buttmonkey type of character, and the traits they use to write him are traits exhibited by autistic people. I don’t think this is on purpose, I think it is the sort of thing that happens when you have met autistic people in your life who you do not know are autistic. He is written to be the type of character who makes people socially uncomfortable. Unfortunately, as if often the case, what comes to mind when you look for those kinds of traits are autistic traits.  Now... > From Claptrap’s early beginnings in BLTPS, he is a character who is analyzed as having ‘something wrong with the way he thinks’. Angel and Jack both comment on this. Angel says ‘you can’t fight it, you have to work with it’ and Jack repeatedly lambastes and hurts Claptrap for not understanding things. In fact, the words used to describe Claptrap by characters confirm he has a cognitive disability, a canonical learning disability. Angel discusses how you have to ‘work with his programming, not against it’. Karina, the leader of the town Claptrap set off the fireworks, tells Claptrap that ‘his heart is in the right place even if his brain isn’t.’ > He is a character everyone finds socially awkward, and has a difficult time being around. He is hyper loquacious, he doesn’t take proper breaks in conversation, he has a hard time recognizing when to stop talking. Claptrap is aware of his own social awkwardness, and comments on it. However, even though he is aware of his issues with communication (he knows he has a hard time reading people, and expresses this) he also doesn’t have any way to fix his issues with people. He can’t magically become better at social recognition, at saying the right things or responding in the correct way. Keep in mind, even in situations where it is dangerous for him to talk, and he was met with physical abuse, like when staying with Captain Flynt, he couldn’t resist asking questions and still couldn’t parse when was an appropriate time to talk or not. An incredibly unfortunate example of this is seen when Flynt plays old recordings of Claptrap and Flynt together. (Flynt: A few of your have asked me why I keep playing these pre-recorded messages on a loop. Well, I’ve got a great answer for you: a red-hot poker to the eye. Isn’t that right, Claptrap? Claptrap: IT WAS JUST A QUESTION, MISTER FLYNT!!) > Claptrap does not take ‘hints’ easily. When people are mean to him in BLTPS, he assumes that they are his friends regardless and this is their way of expressing that even if he doesn’t understand it. He has a hard interpreting people’s words beyond face value. > Claptrap overshares, all the time, and lacks the capability to filter what he should or should not share. He talks about how he has he has an issue with his central processor that makes him share what’s on his mind. He has a hard time not talking. Even when he tries to give the player silent treatment, he can’t stop talking. > Claptrap’s model in-game is characterized by stimming, and repetitive motions and behaviours. In fact, more than other character’s idle motions are! Most characters idle motions are pretty still for the most part, aside from the BL1 crew. If you stand in front of Claptrap in Bl2 he is always rocking back and forth (vestibular stimming). If you meet him in Bl1 he is always volunteering to dance, and he continues to beatbox in BL2 repeatedly as a sound he likes. These are all very stimmy things. Also, if you’ve ever played the Poker Night game with him, he is always humming and moving in that even while sitting. He does a lot of audio stimming. In Poker Night 2 he even mentions playing kitten videos on his other processor while playing the game. > Repetitive vocalizations: tendency to repeat things, especially dubstep. His dubstep is so common you’d be hardpressed to find a form of media he’s in that doesn’t reference how he does it/can’t stop doing it at least once. > He has a loud voice, tonal issues and is designed to lack inflection. His voice doesn’t convey what he’s feeling. Although it’s a feature of ‘design’, it could be argued all Claptraps represent the same issues/are designed to be autistic. At large, they are considered imperfect: loud, klutzy, and incapable of providing the social finesse they are built for. > Which, speaking of, Claptrap is klutzy. He has some issues with motor control. > Claptrap appears to have executive dysfunction issues which is where a lot of anger in the series directed at him comes from, and a lot of how he fails to live up to what people want from him. Claptrap performs poorly. Partially because of the social aspect, and partially because Claptrap has issues following commands and remembering things, cognitive isues with details. Noteably, we have his flashback of what went wrong with the fireworks. There was no malice on his part. He couldn’t remember. Claptrap messes up orders, commands, instructions giving, many of these things a lot of the time, and none of it is on purpose. > Issues with emotional regulation: Claptrap cries a lot. Noteably, he isn’t always aware of it - ‘am i leaking?’ and he doesn’t always know why he’s doing it. > There are autistic people who rarely use gestures, and then there’s autistic people who use lots and lots of gestures. Claptrap is the second. Always using his hands in big exaggerated motion. > Claptrap’s communication issues are bad enough that he is ostracized in the communities he enters for it. This is partially because Claptrap is a tool and non person already to most people, but (worse) he is seen as a dysfunctional tool and non person > One of the most consistent characteristics about Claptrap is that he is impulsive and has issues with long-term planning. When Claptrap receives money, when Claptrap launches attacks, he immediately blows money or is making things up on the spot as his plan unfold. > Claptrap uses social scripts that he applies to all situations. An example of this is shown in Poker Night 2, ‘don’t look at the money or it’ll think you’re a creep’. Claptrap appears to have social scripts he follows for all situations regardless of context. > Socially inappropriate statements: many. > Unusual sense of humour. Claptrap has a tendency to over explain his jokes in case people don’t get it. He’s also pretty rigid about why his jokes are funny or aren’t. He will explain puns to someone to show why they’re funny and why someone should be laughing at them because they hit the checkpoints of humour. > Autism is characterized both by high empathy and low empathy depending. Claptrap has pretty high empathy - so much that he is very sensitive to other people’s loneliness, and it is in fact his biggest fear. Other people’s loneliness is in fact a greater fear for him than his own loneliness. He also has moments where he experiences low empathy, where he is out of step of the emotions of the people around him and reacts insensitively. > Very trusting in other people and believes others have good intentions (at first - we see Claptrap become more distrustful of people due to the fact people often have very bad intentions concerning him). Often leads to exploitation, as in Claptrap’s case.  > Sensory seeking - dude seeks out stimulating environments, sounds, noises and textures in many ways. Even in that early quest with the soft bullymong fur. Uncommon Questions for OCs and their creators

QUESTIONS FOR YOUR OCs What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do? -About 10 minutes if they really really have to, usually they're always moving unless they're "sleeping". If it's a sit-still-and-wait situation there will be fidgeting, if it's a don't-move-or-you'll-die an-agonizing-death situation then there will be straining noises and sweating at the 2 minute mark. How easy is it for your character to laugh? -with strangers or acquaintances they're pretty straight-faced, with friends they're prone to cracking a smirk, generally it's just a small upwards quirk of the mouth tho. A smile is pretty rare, and outright bursts of laughter only really ever happen when drunk. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?) -Petting Sai is their go-to method, but generally they prefer to stay on watch, or they'll scout ahead. They'll let someone take first watch, then stay up the rest of the night and let everyone else do whatever it is they do in their resting time. How easy is it to earn their trust? -Not very easy at all, they keep things close to their chest and only open up slowly, if at all. If their trust is earned though, then you've got an ally for life. How easy is it to earn their mistrust? -they're generally wary of people at first meeting, trust is reserved for those few who earn it. If you had their trust and betrayed it then, depending on the severity, it's either a wary second chance or it's broken for good. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable? -Flexible as hell, as long as others aren't being harmed. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling? -The smell of maple syrup, the color of golden sunlight filtering thru trees. They don't like it very much no. What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child -Stop wandering off was the most frequent. Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word? -They'll curse under their breath, but they do most things under their breath tho so. As for first it was probably something crass they repeated from their father after he hurt himself. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them? -"I'll be back soon." Said frequently and with heartfelt meaning, but never really fulfilled. The last time they said it was when they returned to find their home village completely gone. They never say it anymore. So yes, it haunts them. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)? -A weird mix of both of those, they'll pretend for a second out of habit and then just go wait what? How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach? -Find a good ol tree to scratch against, of find a stick to scratch with, or use an arrow to reach it if push comes to shove. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color? -They -think- they look best in blues but they don't. They look best in dark greens. Luckily they always wear reddish earth tones and shit so it's a moot point. What animal do they fear most? -Dragons of course. How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first? -Quietly and under their breath in the thick of things, clear and confident when they actually know what's going on and what they're talking about. Either way they don't usually rehearse their words. What makes their stomach turn? -Not a whole lot tbh, at least not physical things like smells or blood/death. Or at least, not normal amounts of blood and death. Wanton and vast destruction would hit them badly though. Are they easily embarrassed? -Not in most situations no. What embarrasses them? -They think pretty highly of their skills, being that they spent their entire life honing and surviving off of them, so when they fail at something around others that they're normally very adept at, they get a bit embarrassed. What I'm saying is that they're nervous doing things in front of people so they suck at their skill checks. What is their favorite number? -14 If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so? -They wouldn't really have any clue what you're going on about, emotions tend to confuse them. Like, of course they know that their parents loved them, and Ed'Hel loved them but in a different way, and they loved Ed'hel in an even more different way and specific way. But they couldn't tell you what those differences were. Why do they get up in the morning? -To...survive? How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? -As with most emotions they'll just kinda...walk away. How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)? -If it's something they can attain for themselves with a bit of effort then they'll go for it, they're not the type to be envious of material things tho. Is sex something that they’re comfortable speaking about? To whom? -No What are their thoughts on marriage? -No What is their preferred mode of transportation? -On foot, out of convenience. Ideally it would be on the back of a giant bear though of course. What causes them to feel dread? -Having to rely on others to survive. Like say they're tied up and have to wait for someone to rescue them. They'd have a really shitty subconscious moment of 'there's no way that person is capable enough' and deep down feel really bad about that but still feel dread that they're right. Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth? -Pretty much always prefer the truth. Do they usually live up to their own ideals? -No of course not, does anyone ever? Who do they most regret meeting? -horribly, Ed'hel. Second place goes, equally horribly, to Kjelle. Who are they the most glad to have met? -They're pretty positive about the group they've found themselves with at the moment, Naveen is their favorite by a good margin tho. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke? -Not really no, socializing is by far their weakest point. They'll gladly listen and nod, but story time isn't something they do. Could they be considered lazy? -it's a knife edge of having no set goals but to survive every day as it comes. So physically they're far from lazy, they hunt and fight and travel every day, but motivationally? Very lazy. How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt? -If it's an abstract sense of guilt then they can quell it fairly easily. If they're truly guilty of something then they don't handle it well at all, they'll apologize and try to amend as soon as they realize how and why they fucked up. How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive? -Yes very, nod in all the right places, do the whole mhm go on thing, tell me to go for it. Yeah. Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap? -they're not actively looking at all, as with most things if it falls in their path they'll deal with it as it comes. Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (like anagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)? -long years of practice in the art of if-you-forget-to-do-this-you'll-starve/die. But other than that they're shit at remembering names and there's nothing I can do to help them. What memory do they revisit the most often? -painfully, the time they saw Ed'hel before they left that final time. How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people? -depends on the flaw really, if it's not something that is actively endangering their life or making it unpleasant then it's not their problem and they don't care. How sensitive are they to their own flaws? -they know what they're good at and they know what they're not good at and so they stick to things they can do and leave the other shit to other people to handle. How do they feel about children? -they're people, don't hurt them. Just like all other people. How badly do they want to reach their end goal? -at this moment of their life they're taking every day as it comes, one day at a time. The trail to finding out what happened to their home and loved ones has long since dried up and they live a quasi-life of just getting up every day and not dying, rinse and repeat. This adventure is the first time in a long long time they've been curious about anything other than immediate survival, they find themselves going into their rest periods thinking of what else could possibly happen tomorrow. If someone asked them to explain their sexuality, how would they do so? -very vague confused shrug QUESTIONS FOR CREATORS A) Why are you excited about this character?
-pretty excited, they're my first new child in a long time. B) What inspired you to create them? -they're a dnd character so I kinda had to make them. I had no choice. C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story? -I still don't know where the hell they fit in all this 
D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look? -I've edited them recently based on details others have drawn them with that I like and feel fit them better

FULL NAME:

Amara - A name with many meanings, though her parents named her with the original Sanskrit in mind.  “Immortal”, or immortality rather, was an aspiration that they had for their daughter. Of course, as a pureblooded witch, her name would be cemented in at least some small facet of history - but they craved so much more for her. She would be an impeccable lady, groomed to be what women envied and men craved all while maintaining the ability to dice them apart with her sharp wit. Amara would be someone they could be proud of.

Eugenia - An ancestral name, passed down to numerous members of the Zabini family. None are certain whether or not the story is true, but it has been passed through the family that they are named for a 3rd Century Saint who escaped persecution by impersonating a man.

Zabini - (I am taking some creative liberties here, so if you don’t like it I will absolutely change it!) The name has evolved through the passage of time, but originally it was Zabaione. Zabaione is an Italian custard-based dessert, which the family gained fame for marketing centuries before. A fortune has been amassed over the years through further creation of popular magical desserts as well as the production of dessert based wines and liquors. In the last twenty years the family has made moves to go international with their brand, spreading slowly through Europe and planning to eventually make their way to the America’s and Asia.

The current extracurricular activities set for her, Ravenclaw prefect and Magical Creatures club, are perfect. However, I would like to add a few things.  As a character who’s future is so important to her I would like to imagine she pays a lot of attention to what clubs she is in, and grasp at whatever opportunities that she can get, she also is a talented witch which leads me to believe she may have been invited to the Slug Club. I’d also like to add her to the charms club, as I imagine this is one of her favored subjects.

BIOGRAPHY:

Great shame had been brought upon them with the birth of their first child. The Zabini family was ruled with pride, and of course the fact that they had been expecting had been splashed far and wide. It was with even more pride that they introduced the world to their son - Ricardo Zabini. He was handsome, well-read and playful and Nailah and Gianluco could not have been happier parents. It was his eleventh birthday that initiated their shame. Surely, the owl delivering his Hogwarts letter had just managed to get lost along the way. Maybe the ministry had simply forgotten, after all they had moved from Italy to Britain less than fifteen years ago. Another year passed and they lost hope. As their peers pointed out the boy had never actually showed any real magical talent. A squib. They’d given birth to a squib.

It was with absolute horror that the couple learned of their second pregnancy. They retreated completely from the eyes of the public fearful that their misfortune would repeat. In spite of this fear they still deeply loved their children, and though they hid there face they still wished for the best for them - even if it meant leading muggle lives. Amara was born in a small cottage, with just a healer and her family. She surprised her family when she began showing magical talent around the age of five. Eventually, they came out of hiding and Ricardo and Amala were ushered back into lavish society. If anyone could keep them from becoming societal outcast, it would be their talented and beautiful daughter.

Amara was exactly what they had hoped for. From the moment they set a book in her hands she never stopped reading. While she adored fiction, she had also adopted a quick desire to learn all that she could. Gianluco hired men to find books on healing, magical architecture, creatures of all nations, and so many other subjects. The family library continued expanding as the girl soaked in each new thing. In public situations she didn’t speak much, but when she did her contributions to the conversation were usually riveting. Typically, she remained in the background. At first this upset her parents, but they eventually got over it at the approach of their peers remarking on her beauty and the brilliance of her smile. When the time came they were certain that they would at least be able to make her a good match.

Starting Hogwarts was a dream come true for the scholarly girl. There were endless avenues for her to explore and for weeks she could hardly curb her excitement. That all came crashing down when she actually did start. A couple of people already knew her, and as she was one who didn’t speak much they had already pigeon-holed her as someone far less intelligent than she already was a few even went so far as to point out that there was no way she could be a talented witch - one certainly couldn’t be when they had a squib for a brother. For a little while she tried to fight it, raising her hand in lessons and getting extra credit as frequently as she could. It didn’t take her long though to figure out that it wasn’t worth fighting for anyone’s approval. Let them think her inept. Let them think she cared for nothing more than just her appearance. Amara knew what the truth was, and she knew she could use their opinion of her to her advantage. She maintained her invisibility while gaining knowledge, and occasionally secrets, from those around her. Soon, she knew who to go to in order to get whatever it is that she wanted within the castle - including Thorfinn Rowle, her favorite little play thing and protector. Her network continues to expand, and slowly her invisibility is beginning to fade.

Permissions

Shipping?  Yes, but extremely difficult if you’re aiming for something more than physical.  I will not count “physical relationships” as a genuine ship, so Laito will wander around and be with whomever he wishes until/unless he settles on a particular person, Yui or otherwise.  Singleship per verse with limited verses.  Please note - as stated on the rules page, orientation is typically listed as what the muses think they are.

Duplicates? Multiple ‘Yuis’?  What about character that aren’t on the dedicated castmates list?  Yes.  You can thrust Laito at Laito.  There’s also no issue with duplicates of canon, crossover, etc. characters that Laito is already interacting with.  You want it, you got it.   To prevent destroying the validity of duplicate muses, I will sometimes think of things as ‘A Kanato did this’ instead of ‘Kanato did this’, which is a very subtle difference but prevents another muse from having to deal with the blame of an event they were not responsible for.  This will only be differentiated as necessary within writing.  I repeat: all duplicate muses will be treated with respect, not as ‘fakes’.  Any Sakamaki brother is a brother of his, regardless of how many Kanatos there are (for example).  We’re just going to, uh, slide past that as often as possible (and occasionally make jokes).

Multiple Laitos will be treated as though they’d somehow wandered into one’s world or the other via some enchanted, strange object or doorway in the Sakamaki household.  This allows them to interact, but prevents the concept that one is a ‘true’ Laito over the other.  I do not necessarily recommend having two of them meet if there’s a Yui present.  Ideas may arise.  You have been warned.

Fighting?  A-Okay, but Laito will probably run away, avoid, escape, etc. unless there’s a real need.  He prefers nonviolent confrontations.  I’ve done a lot of fighting roleplay but it was in the past and I’m way more interested in the storytelling of it.  It’s better that we discuss the end result beforehand for smoother sailing, but we can improv it as well.

Harming? A-Okay!  Just be aware that this muse may harm or kill yours in turn!

Killing? A-Okay!  Please be aware, however, that should the need or desire to continue the verse arise, the death scene will be considered a what-if.  In addition, it is very difficult to kill this muse due to the pureblood resurrection abilities.

Can we send shippy memes / etc.? Sure, we can still explore what-ifs, drabbles and oneshot threads, but the main focus will be on the storyline here!

Can we know Yui has Cordelia’s heart, is possibly turning into a vampire, is surrounded by vampires, etc. and reference this to Laito? On a case-by-case basis.  It should be discovered organically if it’s not something your character would be able to know already.  There’s plenty of situations where this would make sense.

Can we know about Laito’s past before interacting?  No, not unless you have genuine reasons for it like being one of his brothers.

Can we have characters comment on the events of the timeline? Yes, if they “catch sight of”, “overhear a rumor”, “a familiar saw X”, or any other sensible reason, then characters can be aware of and comment on events.  I wholly encourage characters participate in Laito’s life!  Please tell the story with me!

Can we rescue Yui Komori from the Sakamaki household? Unlikely.  At best, if you succeed in the first place, it’s entirely likely that they will find you, they will take Yui back, and they will kill one or both of you for this.  Or the Mukamis might take advantage of the situation!  Obviously, the exception here is the Mukamis, who are entirely expected to attempt this from time to time.

Can we reference interactions we’ve had with your Kanato, etc. to Laito?  I mean...sure?  If you want?  I’m fine with using my muses for plot and timeline advancements for myself and those I interact with (within limits) but I’d also prefer to not be my Kanato’s Laito and vice versa, so this would probably be limited.  You can still act like what’s happened has happened, though.

Appearance

Laito has shoulder-length reddish-brown hair, with lighter blondish color to the tips, a mole on the right side of his chin and green eyes just like his triplet brother Ayato.  He has fair skin and is usually seen in a pose where he holds the tip of his hat as it looks like he is trying to pull it down.  He has a slender figure and is often seen smirking.  He has two piercings on his left ear.

In HAUNTED DARK BRIDAL, Laito’s casual wear is usually an unzipped blue hoodie with white cuffed sleeves over a striped sweater with sleeves that almost cover his hands and a white dress shirt with a red tie.  He wears it with brown pants along with his hat that has a red ribbon around it.

In MORE, BLOOD, Laito wears a dress shirt with a grey vest and two scarves, one white and one black.  He wears this with black pants and his signature fedora hat.  

His uniform consists of the black uniform jacket over a red jacket that has fur bordering the hood.  Under that is a white dress shirt with a skinny black tie.  He wears black pants that go only to his knees and his signature hat.

Personality

Infamously, Laito is perverted.  He’s been suspended from school multiple times over his perverse behavior.  Despite his masochistic-seeming tendencies, Laito is a ‘Do-S’ and extreme sadist like all his brothers.  Though his methods may, at a glance, seem far softer than some of his brothers, he is extremely sexually aggressive and manipulates the mindset of others’ based on his whims.  If he distresses someone too much and picks up on it, he may either fully break the individual or turn soft for their next engagement, ensuring the person is clinging to the nicer, lovelier moments together.

Cheerful, playful and friendly, Laito adores teasing and messing with others, especially Yui.  He enjoys others watching him tease an individual.  He enjoys watching other people bite and mess with Yui, but ultimately turns possessive and jealous over it.

History

CHILDHOOD. The oldest triplet by birth order, the triplets consider each others’ ages via an old tradition where the last one to be born in a multiple birth is the oldest.  Thus, Laito is treated as the youngest triplet and, in addition, the fifth son of the Sakamakis.  When Laito was a child, Cordelia had no purpose for him and ignored him even more than Kanato, whose voice she at least appreciated.  Though he tended to be a softer, more sensitive boy, he would often play with the louder Ayato and the temperamental Kanato when the opportunity arose.  More often than not, he was left to his own devices and felt truly unloved and neglected.

Once he was “old enough” (by Cordelia’s standards apparently), Cordelia began an incestuous relationship between them.  This went on for quite some time until Karlheinz found out about it and tossed Laito into the dungeon.  When Cordelia went to see him, Laito thought he was someone precious to her and that she wanted to rescue him.  Instead, she showed him her “love” for Richter while he watched, forcing Laito to see that he was never special to her among all the other men in her life.  Unfortunately, their “relationship” continued even after he was freed and Laito was unable to see her actions as anything but cheating on him.  He frequently murdered her lovers but was forced to promise that he would not kill Richter.  The ongoing stress of being forced into sexual situations (witnessing his mother’s acts with others, etc.) that he did not necessarily desire and his mother’s inconsistent behavior towards him led to Laito growing into a pervert with a very warped understanding of “love”.  

Eventually, Cordelia was attacked by Ayato and came to Laito for help.  Rather than harm Ayato or allow Cordelia her wish to be killed “by the only man she loved” (his father), he pushed her off the balcony so that he could keep her to himself for eternity.

NEAR CURRENT.  Karlheinz manipulated circumstances to keep tossing experimental sacrificial brides at his children.  None could endure the blood loss, physical and emotional torment.  The sacrificial brides were too fragile and the Sakamakis broke their toys.  

CURRENT. A single sacrificial bride is surviving and enduring: Yui Komori.  Whichever brother obtains her will become the Sakamaki heir.  Without directly entering into a “relationship” with any of the Sakamakis, she endures her stay there.
