Hey! A bit of a peek at what's going on next for Midst: a three-issue miniseries comic from Dark Horse is beginning publication in August!

Midst: Address Unknown is written by Colin Lorimer with art by Alejandro Aragón. The first cover features art by William Kirkby. Chris O'Halloran and Jim Campbell are also billed on the cover; my guess is they are the colorist and letterer for the series.

The comic seems to follow the events resulting in the founding of Stationary Hill, per the publisher's summary from Dark Horse:

Caught between the Un and the Fold sits the islet of Midst… When their ramshackle postal ship crashes on a mysterious new landmass, siblings Rowan and Ogden Shearwater have to make the best of it. Adventurous Ogden convinces reluctant Rowan to make a fresh start in the strange new islet that sits between the bright Un and the dark Fold. But Midst holds dangers that will challenge Ogden and Rowan’s family bonds as well as their will to survive.

As Reformation Day Approaches...

Many will wish to talk about Martin Luther. Which makes sense because he famously nailed the 95 theses to the church door at Wittenburg on October 31st.

But what better time to commemorate all of the OTHER important figures and reformers of the Protestant reformation? Of whom there were many.

Wikipedia lists 284 people burned in England under Queen Mary I, as she attempted to consolidate her power. Her new laws declared anyone teaching against Catholic doctrines to be guilty of heresy and subject to the death penalty. The Catholic church has never denounced these murders committed by its members on its behalf.

These laws affected famous and regular people alike. Over time I may make a series of posts with more detail about some of these persons.

Happy pull day—and so soon again! The Mighty Nein Origins: Nott the Brave hits local comic shops today. To mark the release, here's a small selection of Veth-related articles:

Yeza Brenatto, Veth's husband and an apothecary in Felderwin. He is a nervous but supportive sort.

Luc Brenatto, the son of Veth and Yeza. He is four or five during the events of Campaign 2, and he is a precocious and energetic child who wants to be like his mother.

Brenatto Apothecary, the alchemist shop owned by Veth and Yeza. It also served as their home. Unfortunately, it was burned down in Campaign 2.

Nott's mask, a porcelain half mask that Veth wore to help disguise her goblin features. It was scavenged from a doll, and based on the comic preview, she found this doll before she and her family were captured.

Just for fun—theki root, a plant that is used as a digestive aid that can help protect against poisons. Yeza correctly theorized that it can also be boiled to produce a very strong acid.

The graphic novel is written by Sam Maggs with art by William Kirkby, colors by Eren Angiolini, and lettering by Ariana Maher. Maggs, Kirkby, and Maher have worked previously on The Mighty Nein Origins, but Angiolini is new to Exandria!

Today's release is in comic shops, and it is scheduled for book stores and retailers on January 31.

Dark Horse, Critical Role, and Third Person are collaborating on a new comic series based on the space-western podcast Midst. Each Midst comic will be an oversized issue featuring a new story and a new creative team. The collection will feature stories throughout the show's timeline.

The first Midst comic, Midst: Address Unknown, will be written by Colin Lorimer, illustrated by Alejandro Aragón, colored by Chris O'Halloran, and lettered by Jim Campbell. Cover art is by William Kirkby.

"When their ramshackle postal ship crashes on a mysterious new landmass, siblings Rowan and Ogden Shearwater have to make the best of it. Louise Kirkby Lunn - O don fatale [Don Carlo] - 1911

Louise Kirkby Lunn (1873 – 1930) was a leading contralto who had trained in her native Manchester and studied at the Royal College of Music in 1890 for three years. In 1895 she appeared in the first of Henry Wood’s Promenade concerts and then began her stage appearances, including small roles at Covent Garden.  Then in 1896 she joined the Carl Rosa Opera Company as principal mezzo-soprano until her marriage in 1899 to William Pearson.  In the 1901 census they are living at Hyde Park Mansions, with a year old son named  Louis Kirkby and her aunt Anne living with them. They later lived in St Johns Wood Park. She sang many roles at Covent Garden during the first two decades of the 20th century and first appeared at  the Bechstein (later Wigmore) Hall in 1902, giving her first full recital (with pianist Percy Pitt) on 3 November 1906, followed by many others in subsequent years when her husband was manager there.

She also performed in a charity concert in aid of the Italian Hospital in London in July 1906 and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society for her rare combination of personal artistic achievement added to a richly endowed nature.   She was famous for her Delilah in Samson and Delilah, and for Gluck’s Orfeo. In 1909, she sang Elgar’s Sea Pictures with Elgar conducting  the orchestra. She often toured Europe and made trips to New York and Australia. In 1922 she made her farewell to Covent Garden with her celebrated part of Kundry but continued for some years to appear in concerts and recitals. Sir Henry Wood said she was a singer with a glorious voice and an even tone throughout a compass of well over two octaves, a singer with whom I never found fault in so much as a quaver all the years I worked with her, and who never sang out of tune.

Oh no is this for real? I didn't even register the name when they announced the Yasha comic; I absolutely abhor William Kirkby's work. Every character looks like they're about to jump on you and start tearing out chunks of your throat with their teeth, they all look like horror anime characters on the verge of a mental break. I was so mad about the Beauyasha dice tray because it's goddamn horrible. It looks like Yasha's about to strangle Beau to death. Seriously, every character looks like Ryuk from Death Note. Sigh. Guess this one's going to be an L too.
