To Inherit the Night - 17
Cecily took a deep breath, trying to stay calm as she watched Hubert pack.
He was leaving, leaving her here, alone, while he went back to Enbarr. She wasn’t to leave the property without his permission, wasn’t to have guests without his permission, wasn’t to send mail without it gaining his approval.
Not that she needed his approval. She had Piper.
“Thomas will ensure you have anything you need,” Hubert said as he organized his reports before putting them into his bag.
“I want to see Yuri.”
“He’s on a mission. Depending on results we can discuss a visit in a few weeks.”
“Where?”
“I can’t discuss that.”
“Where did you send him?”
“I can’t discuss that.”
“Won’t, you won’t discuss it.”
“No, I won’t. You have no need of such knowledge.”
“Oh, no, of course not. He’s only my brother, my only family. Why don’t I just take up embroidery while you send him off to do Goddess knows what?” She spat, temper getting the better of her. Hubert didn’t rise to it, keeping his eyes on the papers before him.
“I would encourage you to pick up hobbies,” he said evenly.
“I have hobbies,” she spat back, stopping herself from adding that her main one for the past four years had been fucking with his and Arundel’s plans.
“Then, think of this as an opportunity to pursue them,” he said, clasping his bag and turning towards the door.
“Maybe I will,” she hissed under her breath as he left, footsteps muffled by the carpet in the hall. She waited until she heard him climb down the stairs before she flung out a wall of shadow to slam the door. She crossed to the window in time to watch him climb into a carriage without so much a a backwards glance towards the house.
If he wanted to lock her up, he should have thrown her in one of the cells under the palace, not in a house with a full library, a garden full of poisonous plants, and access to all of Hubert’s childhood secrets.
She turned away, intent to go turn Hubert’s study upside down.
~~~
It was an idiot thing, the Church sending its Academy students to put down minor rebellions and kill petty criminals. They were supposed to be learning tactics, learning magic and weapon techniques, but here they were, doing the duties of low level knights for a grade.
It might have bothered him if he’d developed an aversion to killing. Still, that couldn’t be said for the rest of his classmates. Linhardt had nearly fainted the first time he’d seen blood.
Hubert didn’t know precisely when he’d gotten separated from the rest of the class—Edelgard had taken the other flank with the professor, and Caspar, who’d been tasked with covering him and the Abyssian girl, had rushed ahead without a backwards glance, which meant it was now up to him to make sure the girl didn’t die.
It would be a shame.
He thought it strange her brother hadn’t objected to them be separated—he was overly protective of her, nearly always hovering about her while they were around the Academy. It seemed counter-intuitive for him to leave her side when engaging in combat.
He glanced around, looking for her. She was rather good at staying out of sight, something that no doubt served her well in Abyss. It did, however, make covering her all the more difficult. She’d lagged behind a bit, keeping in the shadow of the nearest ruin, eyes narrowed. He turned just in time to see a bandit that had scaled one of the collapsing walls launch himself at her. He was easily a hundred pounds heavier and a foot taller, with rippling muscle and a wicked-looking sword. Next to him she looked so small and slight.
Hubert sprinted towards, her, already calling forth a ball of dark magic, but she lashed out, almost too quick to processes, slashing across his throat with a dagger, blood spraying over her. He’d crumpled by the time Hubert reached her and she turned, brandishing with the knife only to lower it when she recognized him. She was covered in blood, her face and hair soaked with it.
He expected her to be rattled, to panic, to hyperventilate—most of the students in their class struggled with the reality of actually killing, with blood and gore and the awful realities of battle, and she was young—not as young as he’d been, the first time, but still young and innocent—
She raised a brow, cleaning off her blade on her thigh before swiping off as much blood from her face as she could with her sleeve.
“Is that the last of them on the north side?” She asked, voice completely even, the same as if she’d been asking for their homework assignment.
“I think—“
“Duck!” she said pushing him out of the way as she launched a throwing blade over his shoulder. He turned just in time to see it sink into the eye of the bandit, sending him stumbling to the dirt. Cecily stalked over, quick to kick his weapon out of reach before slitting his throat, though Hubert would have sworn his was already dead or very nearly so.
Well, no one could say she wasn’t thorough.
“Are you alright?” she asked, her sweet concern in sharp contrast to the efficient brutality she’d just displayed. In fact, if it weren’t for the blood he’d never known she’d just killed two men.
“Perfectly fine.”
“Good,” she replied, giving him the smallest of smiles. She stooped, digging through the dead man’s pockets for his coin purse, which she pocketed, giving him a wink. Then she turned without a word, disappearing among the ruins to search for more lingering bandits.
He found himself staring after her, slightly open-mouthed.
Perhaps he’d judged her too quickly.
~~~
“And how is everything with the new Marquess Vestra? I’m surprised Cecily decided to stay back at the estate, especially considering you’ve yet been married a week,” Ferdinand said cheerily as he strode into Hubert’s office with a fresh stack of reports from the front lines.
“She is not one for Court life,” Hubert responded in a clipped voice, not bothering to look up. If he did, he’d only be ruder than he meant to be.
“Is everything alright?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“Well, that is the second quill you snapped since I arrived. And I thought you and Cecily had always got on well. You spent a fair amount of your free time at the monastery doting on her.”
“I did not dote,” he snapped back.
Ferdinand raised a brow. “Perhaps it was some other white-haired Ashen Wolf that you tutored. Or threw yourself in front of during missions. Or danced consecutively with at the Gareg Mach Ball. Or—“
“Ferdinand, I do not have time for such foolishness.”
“Did something happen?”
“Will you not let this rest?”
“I shall. When you tell me what is wrong.”
Hubert sighed and threw down his quill. “I did not want her here.”
Ferdinand balked at his words. “And why would that be, Hubert? She is your bride—“
“It is not safe here for her. It is best she stays at the manor until such time when it is.”
“Did she agree to that?”
“No. But she is sufficiently furious with me that I don’t think she will follow me to Enbarr.”
“Hubert—“
“This is not a conversation I wish to have, Ferdinand. Now, if you will excuse me.” He gathered his papers and tucked them under his arm, striding out into the hall despite the fact that it had been his office in which they were speaking.
It was preferable to admitting that Ferdinand had struck a nerve, that his reasons for marrying Cecily were, in fact, not as calculated and pragmatic as he’d made them out to be.
He hadn’t thought himself obvious at the academy. Not obvious enough that Ferdinand of all people should have had any inkling of his feelings.
~~~
Hubert was a fan of false bottoms in his drawers.
He didn’t leave much in them, but it was enough to put several very important things together—Hubert was not an only child, he had two much younger, twin siblings that he was fond of. He was also close—close for Hubert, at least—to his mother.
Close enough to save a handful of her letters, at least.
She knew precisely the sort of things a child might be willing to do for their mother. Especially a mother and siblings he’d cared enough to spirit away before the war even started. She’d see how much he liked it when she threatened his family. Once she tracked them down, at least.
It wouldn’t take long. Rook had contacts at the dock, it’d be easy enough for him to snoop around and figure out when a family of nobles had fled the country. They’d had to have gone to Dagda, too, which would narrow it down. The Empire had allied with Dagda in the war against Brigid, was still steadfast allies with them.
She turned back to the documents she’d pulled out of the last drawer, leafing through them. She sat up, attention peaked as she realized what they were.
It was a list of Arundel’s outposts. And old list, considering the fact that she saw a handful she’d already destroyed, but some—some she hadn’t found yet. Some that were close by.
Too close.
The thought made her nauseous.
She memorized the list before putting it back as she’d found it, just as she’d done with each drawer before, her mind whirring. It would be too easy for him to send agents, too easy for them to try and drag her back to one of their labs when they knew where she was at all times.
They’d drugged her, last time, so she couldn’t fight back, when they’d taken her from Gautier. She remembered the feeling of being unable to move her limbs, of being locked in her mind as she watched her mother fight against them, as she watched her neck slashed and her blood pool on the floorboards, watched Miklan laugh, all while she could do nothing.
She’d watched her mother die and she’d been useless to stop it.
Never again. No one would ever leave her poisoned and too weak to fight back again.  She got up, grabbing the book on poisonous plants she’d been combing through, wishing she could speak to Claude. He’d always been much better at chemistry than her, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to put together something that could counteract most poisons, especially with the facilities available to her. She was rather sure she wasn’t supposed to know about the lab off the false door in the cellar, but they hadn’t even bothered to disguise the wear from the faux wall opening and shutting.
She eyed the ‘footman’ as she climbed down the stairs, whispering agitatedly with one of the pages. It had been easy to spot Hubert’s agents among the group, clear that weren’t comfortable in the role of a Marquis’s servant.
Of course she knew just about all it entailed.
Her mother had begun teaching her at four, she’d practically mastered silver service by the age of six and she was quite sure had Miklan never decided to sell her off that she would have been promoted to a lady’s maid by the time she turned fourteen. Even with all her mucking about with Sylvain, her work had always been impeccable, her mother always impressing on her the importance of near-perfection—after all, they needed to stay in the Margrave’s good graces, couldn’t have anyone digging into their past. Her mother had told Sylvain’s father that she’d been widowed by Lambert’s campaign into Sreng, leaving out the fact that they were refugees from what remained of the country.
If the Margrave didn’t like his heir playing with the kitchen girl, he certainly wouldn’t have liked the fact that she was Srengian.
Between her intimate knowledge of the staffing of noble houses and her work as one of Yuri’s birds, she’d had the lot of them picked out within a week.
It only made it easier seeing as several were very unhappy with their reassignment. She’d have to figure out how to rid of them. Hubert probably thought he was clever, ‘disguising’ them as servants.
That or he thought he stupid.
After all, all she’d had to do to confirm her suspicions was to check the House’s books in Thomas’s office, something he’d seemed surprised she’d wanted to do. Or perhaps he was just surprised she was far more interested in them than in the astronomical monthly budget Hubert had given her to redo the already opulent house, or the news of the royal tailor’s upcoming visit to measure her for an entirely new wardrobe, an absolutely asinine waste of money for someone on house arrest.
She dug in her pocket for a book of matches, lighting the lanterns as she eyed the instruments on the counters, the supplies. She idly pulled open a few drawers, cataloguing what was inside. There were beakers and dried up ingredients and not much else—until she got to the last drawer. In it she found a worn, leather bound journal.
The handwriting was difficult to decipher, but not impossible. She almost wished it had been, though.
It detailed trials and experiments—poisons and paralytic agents and worse. At first she was intrigued, wondering what new hellish concoctions the Vestra family invented, how creative they’d gotten in their time serving as the Emperor’s black hand. After all, she was more or less a hobbiest, considering her past resources. She’d never dabbled in paralytics, mainly due to her own trauma surrounding them, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t, that the couldn’t be useful given the right opportunity. As long as there was no chance she could dose herself.
She began reading in earnest, looking for a quill and some scrap paper to take notes until she froze, reading one of the trials over again.
She’d assumed whoever had been conducting the trials had been doing so on their enemies, on criminals meant to be disappeared anyway. But this poison—a slow acting, untraceable one meant to kill over a length of time without raising suspicion, mirroring the effects of consumption—this poison had been trialed on house staff that hadn’t met standards.
She started flipping through, scouring for every person a concoction had been trialed on. Half, had been on staff. Piper had mentioned the staff being afraid to talk—she’d assumed they’d been afraid of Hubert.
Maybe they’d been afraid for a lot longer then he’d been Marquis.
She rifled through, searching until she found a name, embossed on the inside of the back cover.
Hiram von Vestra.
Hubert’s father.
She snapped it shut, tossing it in the corner of the room. The Vestra’s might be an old family, an important family, one of the Seven, but like it or not, things were about to change. So, Hubert wanted to lock her in a fancy house instead of a dungeon and force her to play housewife—then fine, she’d play a noble housewife her way.
She stomped up the stairs towards Thomas’s office. She’d been set on not spending a red cent of Hubert’s money, but it seemed her plans were about to change.
It seemed reparations were in order.
~~~
Cecily did her best to emulate the cool, detached elegance of the nobility as she strode into the drawing room, surveying the staff lined up along the walls. She’d practiced her speech the night before, after she’d sorted through everything with Thomas. It perhaps would have been easier to fake had she chosen to wear one of the fine dresses Hubert had left in her wardrobe upstairs, rather than what she had to assume were a pair of his old pants from the time he was perhaps twelve or thirteen she’d found his childhood bedroom, along with a spare servant’s shirtwaist and vest.
But Hubert wasn’t home, so she didn’t have to pretend to be his little doll to dress up. Instead she’d pretend she was a proper Marquess and take control of the House.
“Thank you all for gathering. I have some rather unfortunate business to discuss,” she said, slipping the pile of envelopes from her pocket. She started down the line, handing them to each of Hubert’s agents. “I regret to inform you that those who have received an envelope from me are being let go, effective immediately. Thomas will see that you gather your belongings and that you’re sent away with a month’s salary on top of what is owed for this month. The letter you hold is a reference from House Vestra to aid you in your search for future employment. Those of you departing may go with Thomas to gather your things now.”
She waited as they filed out, keeping her face impassive as she studied the remaining staff. Most looked rather shocked, some looked frightened. She didn’t blame them, considering how she suspected the house had been run under the previous Marquis.
She’d expected Hubert’s agents to make more of a fuss, to prevent her from carrying out their dismissal, to order her back in her place, but they had just looked shocked and a bit wary.
Once Thomas had closed the door behind him she began again. “The rest of you I must commend for your extraordinary diligence and domestic talents. I know the previous Marquis had a certain way of running things—there shall be some deviation as my husband and I step into the role. First off, all of your salaries have been doubled retroactively to the date of the Marquis and I’s wedding. Subsequent raises with be considered on a quarterly basis moving forward. I have hired a tutor to instruct all who would like to attend lessons, though I am requiring all children of staff and staff under nineteen to participate. The lessons have been scheduled as to minimally effect daily duties. Are there any questions?”
The remaining servants stared at her with wide eyes. Finally a young house-maid, Lydia, raised her hand.
“Are—are the salaries of the younger servants going to be docked for the schooling?”
“No, Lydia. The lessons are free and participating in them won’t effect your rate of pay. It will, however, provide more options for upward mobility, should you like to pursue a path outside of strict domestic service. After all, our Emperor is fighting this war to level the playing field between commoner and noble, those with Crests and those without. For a truly level playing field, this means everyone must be granted access to the same quality education as traditionally afforded the nobility, and as vassals to the Emperor, House Vestra must serve as an example to be followed throughout the Empire.  Does that make sense?”
“I—yes, I think,” Lydia said, nodding nervously.
“Did—did Marquis Vestra change all of this?” Francis, one of the valets asked.
“I shall be handling staffing, with Thomas’s guidance, as it is typically the domain of the Marquess. The Marquis has far more important things to juggle at the moment and I am uniquely suited to the task. Any more questions?”
~~~
Hubert looked up and frowned at the sight of one of his agents, Vharen, whom he’d specifically stationed in his own house to look after his wife, approached his desk.
“What on earth are you doing here? Weren’t you to be playing a footman?” He asked, annoyed. The man handed him an envelope. Hubert took it, pulling out a page of familiar scrawling handwriting. He scanned it, shaking his head.
“You were dismissed in barely a week?”
“We were all dismissed, sir.”
“The entire staff?”
“Not the staff, just those who work as your agents.”
“All of you?”
“All of us, sir.”
“So the house now lies unprotected?”
“Except for the actual staff, yes. The Marquess ensured we did not linger.”
“Right. You’re excused, find something useful to do before I decide to be less forgiving,” Hubert said, dropping his head in his hands for a moment.
He’d never thought he’d find cleverness to be such an absolute frustration. He stacked up his remaining paperwork and shoved it into a bag before alerting Ferdinand that he would be spending the night at his residence, so that any correspondence should be sent there.
“I can handle anything that arrises, Hubert. If you leave now, you can still arrive in time for dinner, I’m sure that will be a delightful surprise for Cecily.”
“Send anything of note with one of my riders,” he said and turned on his heel. He stewed for most of the ride, trying to figure out precisely how she’d marked every one of his agents—his agents were top notch, trained from adolescence, had infiltrated dozens of other noble houses with hardly a hiccough.
He rode directly to the stables, handing his mare off to one of the younger stable boys who seemed to have a particular pep in his step—perhaps he was motivated by half the staff being fired. He crossed to the entryway, one of the valets darting out of the parlor to take his jacket.
“Where is my wife?” He asked bruskly.
“I believe she is upstairs in the library with the tutor.”
Hubert made a face. He pushed into the library, letting the door bang against the wall in his irritation. Cecily looked up from one of the tables, along with an unfamiliar woman, perhaps a year or two older than himself. She looked positively ridiculous in a set of boy’s trousers and a rough-spun shirt, her hair tied messily back with her ribbon.
“Ah, Hubert, this is Professor Everette, she’ll be spearheading our new educational initiative for the staff.”
Hubert barely spared her a glance. “Nice to meet you. If you wouldn’t mind, I need a moment alone with my wife.”
“Of course, your Grace,” she said, curtseying before stepping out of the library, closing the door behind her. Cecily turned back to the notes laid out on the table, her bottom lip pulled between her teeth.
“What exactly are you playing at?” Hubert said, glaring at her.
“It’s good to see you have nothing better to do,” she replied without looking up.
“Trust me, I have plenty of more important tasks, but I keep finding myself diverted away by your antics.”
“You said I was in charge of the estate. You said I was free to make whatever changes I wished.”
“You fired half the staff.”
“Only those who were incompetent in the domestic arts.”
“You’ve known them barely a week.”
“Hubert, it’s not my fault you think I’m an idiot.”
He paused at that, pursing his lips.
“I don’t think you an idiot.”
“Then I believe I’ve made my position about your agents in our home clear. Next time you attempt to install them without speaking with me they will leave with a far less favorable severance package, am I clear?” Her voice was light, but the mismatched eyes that flicked up to meet his were ice cold. Hubert bristled.
“You dare threaten me in my home?”
“I didn’t know location played a part in its efficacy. I can repeat it out in the garden if that would serve your needs better,” she said dryly. Hubert took a deep breath, trying to quell the anger rising in his gut.
“You’re an infuriating creature.”
“Oh, this is my being a mild annoyance at worst, darling,” she replied, eyes narrowed, her voice nearly a purr. He hated the way his heart stuttered in his chest at the endearment, even though it was meant to be mocking.
What he wouldn’t do to hear it again.
“I will have agents stationed here.”
“Then you will introduce them to me properly or they will be returned to you in pieces. I will be well-acquainted with my jailers, thank you very much.”
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Fine. Though they are here for your protection, not as jailers.”
She smiled at him, the expression carrying no warmth. “You should be far better at lying considering your position, Hubert.”
He merely shook his head, turning on his heel before he said something he’d regret.
Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V
Mit der Veröffentlichung von Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V hat die proprietĂ€re Hypervisor-Software von Microsoft einen erheblichen Innovationsschub erlebt. Virtuelle Maschinen (VMs) sind das Lebenselixier moderner IT-Infrastrukturen, und Microsoft hat die Herausforderungen, mit denen Administratoren tĂ€glich konfrontiert sind, sorgfĂ€ltig berĂŒcksichtigt.
Lehnen Sie sich einfach zurĂŒck und schauen Sie zu, denn in unserem nĂ€chsten Beitrag werden wir einige wichtige Entwicklungen in Hyper-V besprechen. Der Bereich der Virtualisierung entwickelt sich rasant weiter und mit der Veröffentlichung von Windows Server 2025 wird erwartet, dass Microsofts eigener Hypervisor Hyper-V erhebliche Fortschritte erfahren wird. Virtuelle Maschinen (VMs) sind das Lebenselixier moderner IT-Infrastrukturen, und Microsoft hat den Herausforderungen, mit denen Administratoren tĂ€glich konfrontiert sind, große Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet. Lesen Sie weiter und wir enthĂŒllen die Geheimnisse hinter einigen der bemerkenswertesten Verbesserungen von Hyper-V.
Arbeiten Sie mit GPUs auf nie dagewesene Weise: GPU-Partitionierung und Live-Migration
Stellen Sie sich vor, Sie könnten die brachliegende Leistung einer High-End-Grafikkarte optimal nutzen. Genau das ermöglicht die GPU-Partitionierung (GPU-P). Diese bahnbrechende Funktion in Hyper-V 2025 erlaubt es Ihnen, eine einzelne GPU in mehrere virtuelle GPUs aufzuteilen. So können Sie die Ressourcen Ihrer Grafikkarte effizient an mehrere VMs verteilen, die Anwendungen mit hohem GPU-Bedarf ausfĂŒhren, wie z. B. KI-Inferenz, Machine Learning oder grafikintensive Desktop-Anwendungen. Aber das Beste kommt noch: Die GPU-Partitionierung unterstĂŒtzt sogar die Live-Migration.
Das bedeutet, dass Sie VMs mit zugewiesenen GPUs zwischen zwei eigenstÀndigen Hyper-V-Hosts migrieren können, ohne dass die Anwendung unterbrochen wird. Stellen Sie sich das so vor: Sie rÀumen auf Ihrem Schreibtisch auf und verschieben wichtige Dokumente (Ihre VMs) an einen anderen Ort (den neuen Host), ohne dass der Stiftfluss (die laufende Anwendung) dabei ins Stocken gerÀt.
Eine der Leistungen von Network4you (Systemhaus MĂŒnchen) ist die Servervirtualisierung in MĂŒnchen. Weitere Informationen finden Sie unter folgendem Link:
Servervirtualisierung
Schluss mit der AbhĂ€ngigkeit von Active Directory: Workgroup-Cluster fĂŒr einfache Edge-Bereitstellungen
Active Directory ist zwar fĂŒr DomĂ€nenumgebungen unverzichtbar, kann aber die Bereitstellung von Hyper-V-Clustern an Edge-Standorten mit begrenzten Ressourcen komplizieren. Hyper-V 2025 fĂŒhrt daher Workgroup-Cluster ein. Diese Cluster basieren auf Zertifikaten und benötigen keine Active Directory-Integration. Das vereinfacht die Einrichtung und Verwaltung von Hyper-V-Clustern an Edge-Standorten erheblich. hyperv 2025
Stellen Sie sich vor, Sie ziehen in eine neue Wohnung (eine Edge-Bereitstellung) und möchten schnell WLAN einrichten (einen Cluster hochfahren). Normalerweise mĂŒssten Sie erst einen Vertrag mit einem Anbieter abschließen (Active Directory einrichten), aber mit Workgroup-Clustern geht das ganz einfach — Sie schalten einfach den Router ein und schon können Sie loslegen (Cluster mit Zertifikaten konfigurieren).
Dynamische ProzessorkompatibilitÀt: Das Beste aus verschiedenen Welten nutzen
In Rechenzentren mit gemischten CPU-Generationen können Sie mit der dynamischen ProzessorkompatibilitĂ€t in Hyper-V 2025 das Beste aus beiden Welten herausholen. Diese Funktion ermöglicht es Ihnen, VMs auf Hosts mit unterschiedlichen CPU-Generationen auszufĂŒhren und dabei von den neuesten Funktionen der neueren Prozessoren zu profitieren, wĂ€hrend gleichzeitig sichergestellt wird, dass die VMs auch auf Ă€lteren Systemen lauffĂ€hig bleiben.
Vergleichen wir dies mit Ihrem Smartphone: Manchmal möchten Sie die neueste Kamera-App nutzen (die Funktionen der neuesten CPU-Generation), aber es gibt auch Apps, die Sie weiterhin verwenden möchten, obwohl sie fĂŒr Ă€ltere Betriebssysteme entwickelt wurden (AbwĂ€rtskompatibilitĂ€t mit Ă€lteren CPUs). Die dynamische ProzessorkompatibilitĂ€t bietet Ihnen diese FlexibilitĂ€t auch in Ihrer virtualisierten Umgebung.
Leistungssteigerungen: Storage Replica auf Hochtouren und NVMe-oF-UnterstĂŒtzung
Tumblr media
Stellen Sie sich vor, Sie sichern Ihre wichtigen Dokumente auf einer externen Festplatte (Storage Replica). Mit der Leistungssteigerung ist es jetzt so, als ob Sie diese Festplatte per Hochgeschwindigkeits-USB-Anschluss (NVMe-oF) angeschlossen hĂ€tten — die DatenĂŒbertragung geht jetzt noch schneller und reibungsloser.
Apropos Geschwindigkeit: Hyper-V 2025 bietet außerdem native UnterstĂŒtzung fĂŒr NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF). NVMe-oF ermöglicht die gemeinsame Nutzung von NVMe-Flash-Speicher ĂŒber ein Netzwerk, was die Leistung Ihrer VMs und die ReaktionsfĂ€higkeit Ihrer Anwendungen erheblich verbessern kann.
Denken Sie daran, wenn Sie auf ein Dokument zugreifen (Ihre Anwendung ausfĂŒhren): Normalerweise mĂŒssen Sie ĂŒber einen herkömmlichen Netzwerkanschluss warten (traditioneller Speicher). Mit NVMe-oF ist es jedoch so, als ob Sie direkt auf der Festplatte (NVMe-Flash-Speicher) zugreifen wĂŒrden — die Ladezeiten verkĂŒrzen sich deutlich und die Anwendungen laufen flĂŒssiger.
Hyper-V Server 2025: Nope but sort of?
Hyper-V Server 2025: Nope but sort of? #hyperv #homelab
I think many have been dismayed about the discontinuation of Hyper-V Server. The last version that you can officially download is Hyper-V Server 2019. However, with the release of the Windows Server 2025 Preview ISO, I want to show you guys how you can install a new Windows Server 2025 installation and have roughly the same functionality as Hyper-V Server 2019 and you can have access to the
Die wichtigsten Hypervisor im Vergleich
GrundsÀtzlich unterscheidet man zwischen zwei Arten von Hypervisoren:
Bare-Metal-Hypervisor: Dieser Typ installiert sich direkt auf der Hardware des Host-Systems. Er hat vollen Zugriff auf die Systemressourcen und bietet dadurch die höchste Leistung. Bekannte Vertreter sind VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V und Proxmox VE.
Hosted Hypervisor: Im Gegensatz dazu lĂ€uft ein Hosted Hypervisor auf einem bestehenden Betriebssystem als Anwendung. Dies bietet zwar weniger Leistung, dafĂŒr aber eine einfachere Einrichtung und eignet sich besonders fĂŒr den Einsatz auf Desktop-PCs und Workstations. Beispiele hierfĂŒr sind Oracle VirtualBox und VMware Workstation Player.
Nachdem wir nun die grundlegenden Konzepte geklÀrt haben, steigen wir tiefer in den Vergleich der populÀrsten Hypervisor-Lösungen ein.
1. VMware ESXi: Der Platzhirsch im Enterprise-Bereich
VMware ESXi ist der unangefochtene MarktfĂŒhrer im Bereich der Enterprise-Virtualisierung. Er bietet eine breite Palette an Funktionen fĂŒr die Verwaltung und Skalierung virtueller Maschinen, hohes Sicherheitsniveau und nahtlose Integration in die VMware vSphere-Suite.
Vorteile:
Umfangreiche Funktionen fĂŒr HochverfĂŒgbarkeit und Disaster Recovery
Ausgereifte Skalierbarkeit fĂŒr große Umgebungen
Hervorragende Performance
Stabile Plattform mit langer Historie
Nachteile:
Kommerzielle Lizenzierung mit hohen Kosten
Komplexere Einrichtung und Verwaltung
Fokus auf die VMware-Produktpalette
2. Microsoft Hyper-V: Der Herausforderer aus Redmond
Microsofts Hyper-V ist ein starker Konkurrent zu VMware ESXi. Er ist kostenlos in den Server-Editionen von Windows Server enthalten und bietet eine gute Performance sowie einfache Integration mit anderen Microsoft-Produkten.
Vorteile:
Kostenlose Lizenzierung fĂŒr Windows Server Umgebungen
Einfache Integration mit Active Directory und anderen Microsoft-Diensten
Gute Performance und Skalierbarkeit
Deutlich gĂŒnstiger als VMware ESXi
Nachteile:
Weniger Funktionsumfang im Vergleich zu VMware ESXi
Fokus auf Windows-Betriebssysteme
Geringere Akzeptanz im reinen Linux-Umfeld
vmware vs hyperv
3. Proxmox VE: Die kostenlose Open-Source-Alternative
Proxmox VE ist ein Open-Source-Hypervisor auf Basis von Debian Linux. Er bietet eine einfach zu bedienende OberflĂ€che und eignet sich hervorragend fĂŒr kleine und mittlere Unternehmen sowie Heimanwender.
Vorteile:
Kostenlose Open-Source-Lizenz
Einfache Installation und Verwaltung
Integrierte UnterstĂŒtzung fĂŒr Containerisierung (LXC)
Gute Performance fĂŒr virtualisierte Workloads
Nachteile:
I have used Macs somewhat recently for work, but TBH at this point I think I'd rather use WSL2. And HyperV if needed. I have a 4 node k8s cluster of Alta VMs on my Win10, and Debian on WSL. With Windows Terminal being a real TTY (and a pretty good one, if not quite as insane with extensibility as some of them), things are pretty darn nice. Native OpenSSH distributed with Windows is handy too. Mac is *nix of course, and if you install Homebrew and GNU tools it is rather Linux-like... right until it isn't, in really annoying ways. If you like/prefer BSD utils, you are closer... but not all the way there. Many of their BSD tools are *very* old, and a few utils are their own implementations that aren't BSD or GNU. Hm, though I guess IDK if there is a packaging of modern FreeBSD tools for Mac like GNU tools...
Almost any customization you might use settings for in Windows or Linux, you need a utility in Mac. And often times only a paid util is available, or there is an OSS version but it is a good bit worse/more flaky. And then you want to do something low level, only to find you are nearly as locked out of it as on Android.
Docker on Mac (now) works the same way Docker on Windows does: via a hidden VM running a very specialized Linux microdistro. Mac kernel doesn't support the cgroups and namespaces that Linux uses for containers any more than the Windows kernel does. Mac now has it's own native Hypervisor framework that is pretty similar in principle to Windows Hyper-V (which is what WSL2 uses, if a bit differently than a "standard" Hyper-V VM) I quite liked Mac at first (when I started I think Windows only had WSL1, and no Terminal), but the deeper in I got the more issues I had. Then later I started using WSL2 at home and was like dang this is pretty nice. Haven't used WSL2 for work though so far...
That said, if you do go Mac, I could shoot you my old .md of Mac settings fixes and utils, if you wanted.
tried to fill out an onboarding questionnaire from my phone and a layout shift almost immediately made me click the wrong button and caused an irreversible operation to occur. This is why we use the big computer for important tasks!
Turn your Windows PC into a virtual machine with HyperV
Turn your Windows PC into a virtual machine with HyperV
A great way to protect yourself from viruses, malware and spyware is to use a virtual machine to surf the Internet instead of a Windows PC. So what is a virtual machine? Basically, it’s a complete copy of Windows that runs inside another copy of Windows called the host.
