I have a personal headcanon that while underwater, SeaWings use mainly ASL to communicate ideas and thoughts and that the bioluminescent flashes are there to give tone, tense, etc.
(I'm new to learning ASL, please forgive any mistakes I made here in the signs)

RainWing Headcanons:
They have trouble reading dragons with scales that don’t change, and often ask blunt questions like “what are you feeling right now” at random intervals of conversation because of this.
RainWings often keep rainforest animals as pets, ranging from the canon sloths to geckos or macaws.
RainWings naturally mimic the scale colour of the dragons they’re with.
They have a lot of music and story festivals handed down generations by ear.
RainWing eggs have translucent shells.
In DarkStalker’s time, most RainWings were travelling assassins, and were feared across the continent for their camouflage and venom.
Many RainWings, such as Pineapple, as mentioned by Luna in the Flames of Hope, do not have a resting scale colour.
Bromeliad resigned because of Kinkajou.
Glory and Kinkajou are both Orchid and Mangrove’s dragonets. At some point they will learn this when Kinkajou forces Glory to do a venom test because they ‘feel like sisters’ to her.
Turtle and Moon 10000% call Kinkajou ‘Kim’. Because yes.

Illustration of one of MudWing headcanons.
MudWings usually have a hard time coping with their sib's death. Because of that, many MudWings believe in the afterlife, from which their late siblings visit the living world taking shapes of birds, such as small songbirds, corvids, birds of prey.
That way MudWings find comfort associating birds visiting their houses, as their sibs still being with them
Dragon on the picture is my OC, Sable, melanistic MudWing. He lost his wing and all of his siblings in the war. Encountering a raven on his journey, he started to believe that it's his reincarnated sister, Autumn

I'm terrible at drawing realistic talons 😭 This is one of my favorite ideas, though, and I wanted to show it!!
Tumblr media
I like to imagine SkyWings have really tiny talons to help them grip onto flat rock faces; however, small talons aren't really that great to have in battle (especially when you're a tribe known for combat proficiency), so SkyWing soldiers wear talon extensions!
There's tons of variations of these. Some SkyWings even wear them as accessories to be fancy (or because they're insecure about their baby claws).

*runs at you aggressively*
DO YOU THINK ICEWINGS CAN SEE MORE COLOURS THAN OTHER TRIBES.
AND THAT TO ANY NON ICEWINGS THEY JUST LOOK WHITE OR GREY BUT TO ICEWINGS THEY LOOK KINDA PINK AND BLUE???
I’ve heard others call it Tetrachromacy I think it’s and it gave me the idea.
And like—-it makes sense because to others they’re really shiny but to icewing eyes they just see more colours instead. And it sounds sooooo cool.
Cuz if they live in a world of mostly white and blue, it’d be a major shock when they step into a jungle and they’re all picky about colours because suddenly colours are EVERYWHERE. (Alright, this is a stretch, I’m just dumping my brain rot on you)
They absolutely do, although I think a big part of it is that their eyes are trained to- how do I put this, get used to seeing shiny and white things? Maybe it’s a biological part of their eyes but it’s a way of preventing snow blindness. White is just dimmer to their eyes but in return, every color is SO much brighter.
Baby Icewing who wandered into the rainforest thinking she’s having the craziest trip of her life but she’s just overwhelmed by all the new colors that her eyeballs aren’t used to. Pretry much all Icewings have crazy bright color sensitivity but pretty good tolerance to bright lights.
If an Icewing saw a scene kid’s myspace page they’d probably pass out.
Anyways, Icewings would probably describe their scales as rainbow actually! Since the white and shine is so much dimmer to them, it’s much easier for them to catch the pastel blue, greens, pinks, purples and occasionally yellow or oranges or their scales. However other dragons only see Icewings as white, light gray or blue. The blue is actually a biological thing, basically when Icewings get older, similarly to how human hair grays, they “blue”. Icebergs in real life get bluer as they age and so do Icewings! It’s a vibrant and beautiful blue, so it’s hard to mistake with pastel blue undertones that some Icewings just have.

At the ask of @dragonstylemeringue, I made a MudWing opera mask!
Tho, I'm gonna be honest, I had forgotten it was specifically an opera mask, so I made a tribal mask first before I realized xD Perfectly fine tho, I really enjoyed making these!!
Here is the art
Tumblr media
The subject who is wearing the masks is my MudWing oc Doe<3
The right mask is the opera mask, which I'll discuss first:
•These masks are worn during theatre performances, where the actor either acts, sings, dances, or a combination of all three
•The masks are elaborately decorated to fit the role the performer is taking on. For example, Doe was taking on the role of a swamp witch, which is why her mask has herons, a storm cloud, and a third eye. MudWings will also make costumes to go along with their mask
•The opera mask is clamped on with leather straps below the chin and wrapped around the horns, then secured on with metal clips at the ends
•MudWing dances use a lot of rugged, strong movements, with a lot of stomping and wings slowly flapping with the beat. It's similar to fut san, which is a chinese southern lion dance that embraces powerful moves that are derived from kung fu
•MudWing singing is very throaty, with croaks, ribbits, and roars often being thrown in to give it emotion and strength. While the songs would sound strange to say, SandWings, SkyWings, and IceWings, they would angelic and soulful to MudWings, SeaWings, and RainWings
----------------
Now for the tribal mask!
•The tribal mask is given to MudWing troops when they are seven years of age as a proper gift for their endurance, strength, and perseverance for getting to that age, as many, especially in the lower class, don't
•The mask is normally green, black, or grey in color, with a gator like ridge right on the snout, and little gator tails at the end of the first chains. This is because the MudWing's first ever queen was Queen Alligator, who had brought thr tribe together and gave them long prosperity, with not only her great leadership, but her knowledge on crops, and the importance of staying together
•On the first chains are also polished clay beads, sized and painted to resemble the MudWing's sibs. The biggest one is the bigwings, the second oldest is the second biggest, and the smallest is the youngest. The beads vary in amount, depending on how many siblings they have and lost, for their bead is buried with their sibling when they pass on
•The second chain holds a raindrop shaped bead, and is the mask wearer's own color. The reason for the singular to be on a different chain is to remind them that they are still an individual who can do things even if they must do it alone
•The clay nodes all over the mask serves two purposes, being so that the clay doesn't pop or crack during baking, and to give it texture, which is something MudWings heavily enjoy
And that about wraps it up for the masks! Thank ya so much for reading☆
Y'all have a good day/night where you are now, and take care🎉

SilkWing Headcanon

Before metamorphosis, SilkWing dragonets are mainly green, yellow, brown, or white. They develop their adult colors in the cocoon, and many SilkWings change their names after emerging to suit their new form.

whats ur opinion on dragons having different houses bc of class or tribe? i love dragon architecture </3
I'm such a fan of dragon architecture oh my god. One of my biggest worldbuilding gripes (besides the lack of clarity around food/cooking) is that the actual housing arrangements of the dragons are so vague????? Like towns are a thing but also Tui seems to imply most dragons sleep in caves even though it makes no sense for any of the other tribes???? like ma'am most of your dragons live in swamps, jungles, or deserts where the hell are they even finding them
Basically, we have functionally no point of reference for anyone who isn't royalty (Winter, Turtle) or grew up in such specific circumstances that don't reflect back onto broader dragon society to the point where their input is rather moot (Moon, the DoD, Peril, Qibli). Qibli is the closest thing we have but the Scorpion Den is a combination of a shanty town and refugee camp that makes it harder to draw conclusions for the rest of the population. (We're also not counting Darkstalker bc. well. 2000 years)
For my writing, my stance is usually that dragons are primarily nomadic. Dragons who live in/around towns stay there primarily for reasons like child-raising, business, injury, apprenticeships, or just laying low/blending into a crowd. Like with how dragons don't need to cook their food to eat it, dragons are not dependent on housing and are able to comfortably sleep and live outside (barring extremes such as the central desert or really the entire Ice Kingdom). So, the exact permanence of a dragon's stay in town is situational and tribe/job-dependent more than anything else.
As far as the tribes go, Icewings and Nightwings are the most home/town oriented tribes- both tribes have the rarest approach to housing in that almost all members of both tribes live and sleep primarily in one home location that they return to for the majority of their life. For Icewings, this usually looks like multi-generational families that split off into new homes/houses only once there's a real need for it. On the other hand, Nightwings living on the volcano lived primarily together in caves/dormitories divided by age- even though this no longer exists, most Nightwing towns and houses involve many shared buildings and resemble something more like tight clumps of houses or caves.
For the majority of the tribes (Skywings, Sandwings, Mudwings, Rainwings), most dragons will have multiple houses that they move between as needed or wanted. While outliers exist, most dragons have at minimum two homes/dens: one in a more populated area that might operate as a job homebase or a place to receive guests, and a more isolated, private home that exists for the dragon in question to stash any items of importance or valuables, as well as eat and sleep. For more nomadic dragons, banks exist in towns to hold treasure, freeing up their secondary/non-work den to be little more than a shack or burrow with sleeping arrangements. More houses usually equals more money/class power, up to a certain point, where you start to see buildings more akin to Vulture's mansion or even the Royal Palaces, where one building or collection of buildings is large/grandiose enough to host other people's jobs and living spaces (on a related note, gardening is a very stereotypical high class hobby to have, as it shows both an abundance of leisure time and of space).
Between these tribes, Skywings are the most town and home oriented- Skywings often live primarily in towns and only leave for what is essentially a nesting den, as without rudimentary flight skills, Skywing towns are borderline unnavigable and occasionally hazardous for dragonets. Even with their relative isolation, nesting dens in the past have often been located near other nesting dens, creating something of a nesting village for Skywings parents to socialize and raise their hatchlings. Queen Scarlet's reign did irreparable damage to this style of collective child-rearing and nesting dens as a whole. With her breeding programs, most Skywings were forced into partnerships for the sole reason of producing more future Skywing soldiers, and the majority of eggs were instead stored in mass hatcheries until their hatching day.
On the other hand, Mudwings are the most isolated and nomadic, in part due to the structure of sib groups creating a situation where most Mudwings hatch into life with a social network already established. The Mud Kingdom is also temperate enough that housing isn't always necessary, and most Mudwings only congregate in towns for business or seeking a mate.
Finally, Seawings are almost entirely nomadic, and will usually move between a territory, with small dens and hoards scattered within. These territories can hold many multiple families, or they can exist for a single dragon- Seawing property laws are almost nonexistent and mostly maintained by honor and frequent patrolling of the territory to maintain order and mark it as lived space. These territories aren't uninhabited land either- Seawings will grow seaweed and herd schools of fish on their territory, and many take a certain landscaper-esque role, shaping the terrain into something aesthetically pleasing or useful to the inhabitant and helping signal to other Seawings that the land is occupied. One of the few times Seawings will settle in one den or space is for a hatching den- this lasts from the laying of the eggs until the hatchlings become able to swim well enough to keep up with their parents.
I've been pretty burnt out on WOF writing for a while, but this was honestly a refreshing change of pace from what I've been working on recently. Thanks for giving me an excuse to ramble about dragon housing !! I'd love to hear what other ppl think, the more headcanons the merrier :>

Seawing redesign
➽Description: seawings are one of the smallest tribes and grow quite slow, though they seem to have longer lifespans than other tribes. they have short wings used mostly for swimming or gliding, they lack the ability to fly long distances and rely on strong formals to fly. seawings unlike other tribes lack horns, instead having large frills that are used to display emotions or language. seawings all have unique body markings that emit different colours leading to strange glowing blood, these are used for language though, aquatic is made up of mostly body language like hand movements, wing flapping, frill flaring, ect.
