The Book Of Kenobi: Part I (A Star Wars Legends story)

Title: The Book of Kenobi: Part I

Chapters: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six (Complete)

Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi has chosen himself as the one to take Luke to his aunt and uncle on Tatooine with the confidence they will agree to raise him.

What happens, though, if they refuse?

Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker|Darth Vader, Padme Amidala (in flashback/voice)

This is my second story in the Finish Your Shit WIP Big Bang @wipbigbang

Obi-Wan Kenobi cradled the swaddled infant against his chest as he patiently waited to board a public transport bound for his chosen destination: the remote planet of Tatooine.

Once there he would turn the care of the infant over to the only family he possessed before seeking a place nearby where he could keep an eye on the boy.

Watching and waiting for the time when his training would begin.

Obi-Wan did his best to keep the infant quiet and content. As Luke continued to slumber peacefully in his arms, he figured he must be doing something right.

He freely admitted he lacked experience in caring for ones as small as Luke. There had never been any need for him to interact with the younglings in the Temple nursery and no time once he became a Jedi Knight.

His own youth had been spent alongside his best friends, Garen, Bant, Reeft, Kali, and Siri. The bonds they formed as they prepared for their Initiate Trials lasted them into their adulthood. 

Until death separated them.

A fresh spurt of grief rolled through Obi-Wan as he recalled the friends he lost since the start of the Clone Wars.

Siri died on Azure. 

Garen on Acherin.

Bant somewhere in the Purge. 

He had no idea if Reeft managed to avoid the fate that had befallen so many of the others. He also didn’t dare reach out through his and Kali’s bond to ascertain if she was still among the living.

He feared what the answer might be.

How many Jedi heard his warning and stayed away from the Temple, Obi-Wan did not know.

All he could do was hope that even a small number of others survived and managed to go into hiding.

To watch and wait for when it was time for the Jedi to return and defend the galaxy once again.

A Yarkora squeezed by him.

Obi-Wan instinctively tightened his hold on Luke while watching as they made their way through the throng of travelers to an empty seat.

Trust was a commodity he could no longer afford. Not when Luke’s life was the one that would be jeopardized if he chose to trust the wrong individual.

A quick scan of the spaceport revealed a three-eyed Gran whispering to an Ishi Tib in a small alcove.

A pinprick of alarm shot through him when their eyes cut in his direction. He didn’t relax until transport security walked by the duo and their gazes followed after them.

Luke stretched and yawned, immediately drawing Obi-Wan’s gaze. A momentary envy at his peace and contentment filled Obi-Wan.

Another luxury he could not afford.

Not while they remained on a place appropriately nicknamed The Smuggler’s Moon.

From behind a wired fence, the pool looked normal, if not a bit overgrown with dead vines and needing a good cleaning. Only the yellow IBIP tape wrapped around the fence hinted at anything being off about the pool. Upon getting closer, however, it was obvious that something was very wrong with the water settled at the bottom of the rectangular cavity in the ground. It wasn’t water at all, in fact. Beneath the illusion of murky, rippling waves was, well, who knew.

Ellis strode up behind him. “Care for a swim?” he joked.

“Didn’t bring my swimming trunks,” Teejay replied. “Besides, the water looks a little dirty.”

WIP Game Drabble 1: from The Plan: The First Date

After taking your time drying off, you find a pile of your laundered clothing neatly folded on a chair in the bedroom. Putting them back on after last night isn’t quite the walk of shame you usually worried about, but the ensemble doesn’t lend itself well to bright morning light. When Dieter breezes back in, baggy tan t-shirt over black slacks and a purple jacket with a faux fur collar, you see him realize the same quickly.

“We’ll stop at your place first, get you something more comfy to wear,” he says, handing you your purse and giving you a warm sideways smile. It doesn’t save you from the sudden flash of anxiety that washes over you.

“Oh it’s okay, we don’t have to…”

“Murch, you already look uncomfortable and you’ve only been dressed for ten minutes, we are definitely stopping.”

Embarrassment burns under your skin as you busy your hands digging through your purse for your phone.

“My roommate will be home, and I like…don’t live in as nice of a place as this, so I just…” you stammer, finally finding your phone and navigating to your roommate Tib’s number. 

Please tell me you’re not home you frantically type.

“Are they a fan?” Dieter says, a sly smile playing across his face. “Should I bring something signed for them?”

Nope, who are you dragging back after not coming home last night?

The universe is out to get you. Tib is an actor too, and he will lose his mind if you waltz in with the same person he was loudly fetishizing last week.

Please don’t make a huge deal about it

“That would be some massive overkill Di,” you say absently, Tib’s response coming back fast and in several texts

i'm so curious about your hermione wip! she has such a tragic and nebulous story in dh that leaves a lot of room for character arc; i'd love any hints you feel like offering :)

Yes!

I've always loved Hermione's character. When I joined the fandom, I was surprised to see negative takes on her character, although I do understand where they come from. She has flaws, can be aloof and disagreeable, almost hypocritical.

However, my take is that she is vulnerable. More so than the others despite being intelligent and high achieving. She lacks full self-awareness. She's not conscious of how her words and actions impact her friends and why that matters.

I've written TIBs in such a way that at the end of HBP, she's at least more aware of the benefits and downfalls of her somewhat contradictory nature. This emotional work is a major theme of her and Ginny's relationship in TIBs, and why I think they work so well as friends. As Ginny comes into her own, she is able to call Hermione out while giving her grace and patience in such a way that Hermione doesn't go into defensive mode like she often does with the boys.

Getting her to a place where she recognizes her flaws and vulnerabilities is one thing, but then contending with them and growing is another. She doesn't always get it right, and that is what the DH story will center around. As well as more of my missing moment headcanons through DH.

It's going to be a 5 chapter story (long chapters). One chapter for each season of DH - summer 97 through summer 98 exploring themes like...

She's a complicated character, and I don't think she's as innately "righteous" as Harry or the Weasleys. However, that's in part why she's so interesting to me. I believe that's one reason she's drawn to Ron romantically, is that he is a beacon of that loyalty, friendship, humor, and innate *goodness* that she has to work so hard to get right.

Probably more than you asked for - but I'm excited to work on this one!

Alright! We both know it's about TIB, so let's drop the pretense. Hope you're buckled up for some good angst and drama the kind "it's not you, it's me". Because we-know-who is a stubborn idiot. But luckily the other we-know-who is an even stubborner idiot Also, in a few chapters we're going to move scenery (meaning new characters!) and we'll have a return

TAKE THE BABY ＼(＾O＾)／

I have no words written as I'm still trying to sort out timelines (Burza Nyth starts in ep 16 and yet so much happens in ten episodes), BUT [spoilers up to ep 26 under the break]

I had this idea that, in addition to the 2 million gold bars Tiberius offers in exchange for the Featherweave, he also manages to snatch Jonnit off the streets of Burza Nyth [possibly after Jonnit gets drunk during their time at the bar? who knows] and holds him in the brig of his ship.

meanwhile, the others don't immediately make the connection that he's been taken (travis is on the side of 'jonnit is 15, this is the first time they've been in dock for months, he is not going to hang out with a bunch of old people', dref: what do you m-m-mean old people). he's done his part in the race, and they can manage the other events without him [hopefully]. they're additionally pacified by the broker, who insists that Burza Nyth is a free city without violence from the redfeather syndicate or corsairs.

up until the negotiation scene. instead of gable going with jonnit (leaving travis + dref in the hotel room), gable insists that dref come along with them - to help control orimar, if nothing else, and also because gable extremely does not feel comfortable bartering on their own. they try to leave travis in the hotel room anyway. travis flies and perches on orimar's shoulder like a spooky parrot.

and, as like in the show, tiberius does not show up to the negotiation scene. in the envelope are two items: a paper promising 2 mil gold bars, and also, jonnit's bandanna.

[cue orimar taking the heart of the bandit queen, i've got to fill in something else here]

the next day, they discuss options. the broker points at that it's very very bad that tiberius committed an act of violence in Burza Nyth, but they might use it to their advantage - the Redfeather Syndicate isn't going to back him so he could get the featherweave, even if it means that the featherweave falls into Corsair hands. there's some discussions about whether to call in a favor from the BQ about just demolishing Tib's ship) . eventually, they land upon a scheme: simply get onto tib's ship and steal the baby back.

(cue a scene where dref is extremely hesitant about getting aboard tib's ship for obvious reasons, which leads into a large angsty fight as gable believes it's because he doesn't want to risk himself, and then dref comes clean about his backstory before agreeing to go aboard - if only to have better control over orimar, if it comes down to fighting.)

when they come aboard the ship, it immediately becomes clear that tib never really thought they'd take his offer, but wanted to use jonnit as bait to get dref aboard his ship. there's a scuffle, orimar activates his free will to save dref's life, and i'm thinking tib dies?

then they rescue baby boy jonnit, give him his bandanna back, and all is well in burza nyth! 😎

the shadows appeared to reach for her, but her feet were glued to the floor. just a bit closer, they seemed to croon, beckoning her into their clutches. everything was the Void, and the Void was everything; hissing, washing over her with a lulling hum.

act ii. the numbers don’t lie

the first couple of times he had been in the presence of one of them, teejay had been in such awe, coupled with terror; fear of what could be beyond those black swirls. now, they were just another part of the job. 

nothing a good piece of IBIP equipment couldn’t handle.

the Void came up to meet her in a cloud of smoke, and as it enveloped her, she let herself fall into its welcoming embrace.

“it’s okay,” she said softly, holding out an arm in front of her, like one would do when approaching a feral animal. her other hand was stuffed deep into the pocket of her coat, and baby wasn’t sure she wanted to know what kind of weapon was hiding in there.

@evergrcen : AH where do i start!! absolutely amazing poetry/prose and ICONIC characters. i get excited whenever i see they’ve posted bc it’s always consistently well written and SUPER interesting!

@hellsigns : very good and very natural character dialogue/interactions (like this is a love story? oh my god i love it) AND super interesting worldbuilding! their wip the sticks is a great example of that

@mvcreates : i feel like everyone always says this but besides being an excellent writer (with some of the most interesting and engaging wips i’ve ever seen) they’re also a big pillar in the writeblr community! i’ve grown so much through violetvineyard and met so many amazing writers from it!
