Chapter Complete: A Turning Point for Chelsea

Just wrapped up a major chapter of my current work-in-progress, and let me tell you—this one hit hard. It’s a turning point not just for Chelsea, but for me as a writer. Exploring her journey to uncover hidden family truths has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Without giving too much away, let’s just say Chelsea is standing at the crossroads of her past and her future. Mystery? Check. Emotional revelations? Definitely. Decisions that will shape her world forever? You better believe it.

Hi hi! I'm an aroace trans man in a system that loves to write horror mysteries. Though I dabble in other genres depending on what a story needs. My works typically include morally gray characters, strangely cute monsters, and dark content, so make sure you read the content warnings before engaging with them. Some themes you can expect are light in the deepest darkness, heroes being worse than the villain, weirdcore settings, humans as the true evil, religious trauma, finding queer acceptance, and so on. I also litter my works with trans, plural, and aroace themes.

Why did I make a new blog, outside of wanting a fresh start? To be honest, my notifications were so broken that it made the decision easy. I do recognize that, one day, I'll have to accept having an account for a long time just means things will break, but this is not that day!

An Optional BYF For Those Who Want It

This is a Litmus Test

Yep, let's talk about the whole "fiction effects reality" thing. When I use this phrase, what I am not saying is that violent media will make you violent, or that all stories should be squeaky clean with the purpose of teaching a moral. It's a recognition of how harmful feeding into stereotypes can be, and how certain framing contributes to the spread of harmful ideas. For example, a work that glorifies violence done by the military via painting the other side of a conflict as "pure evil". And let me be clear, a character glorifying their own actions is not the same as the creator glorifying their actions, nor are stories where everyone is evil or sucks encouraging bad behavior.

The takes, "writing about horrific things does not make you a bad person", and, "a creator framing a character's horrific behavior as justifiable, and others negative reactions towards it as unjustifiable, could be a red flag", in my opinion, can and should coexist. (Ex: B being painted as in the wrong for not seeing a trans individual as crazy, while A is painted as justified for doing so). I am against censorship and harassment, but I am not against thoughtful critiques or discussions about how we present certain ideas within our writing. Discouraging this makes it more difficult to discuss when harm is intended or accidentally done, and can be used to silence minorities when they ask for better representation. It also makes it harder to blow the whistle on bigots. Both the extremes that everyone who writes dark things condones them, and that no one who writes dark things ever condones them are not helpful. Which brings me to my main point.

TDLR: Framing is everything, and just because fiction isn't going to turn us into murder hobos, that doesn't mean it can't contribute to the spread of harmful ideas. Being against censorship does not have to mean being against thoughtful discussion or critique.

Your reaction to these paragraphs will let you know whether or not my writing is for you. I'm a neurodivergent who's addicted to nuance, and this shows in not only my stories, but also how I approach them. As I write them, I twist the struggles, perspectives, and experiences of the characters to end up with a complex web of considerations. There's nothing wrong with a story full of horrible people being horrible just for the sake of it, or a story full of violence just because, but those aren't the type of things I tend to write. I also often cover the perspectives of trauma victims and plural individuals to put out the representation I as one want to see.

If you dislike horror that takes an interest in examining and criticizing human behavior, this is definitely not the blog for you. But, if you think tackling questions such as how far the heroes can go before they become just as bad, or even worse, than the villain, themes of characters overcoming evil, characters like oddly soft demons, and settings like weirdcore societies meant to comment on American society, are interesting, then I think you'll enjoy my works.

TDLR: I write horror with a gushy center and with representation that is important to me.

I know I’ve been a little quiet, but trust me… I’ve been writing my ass off.

The next prequel in the Hartgrave Tellers series—Heartbreakers—is well on its way to becoming a full manuscript.

It’s gutting.

It’s the kind of story that will rip your heart out and hand it back a little bruised—but full.

This book has been rough to write, but it’s such an important piece of the HGT universe.

She isn't sure if this is a spell or if death had finally found her. She wants desperately to leave, to return to her world, to her village, her family, and her fiance, all taken so long ago. - Oh my goodness! I didn't want to wait another month and I can't BELIEVE it took me this long to make a post of this amazing piece done by the wonderfully talented artist, @arz28. She was just amazing to work with and I lover her interpretation of Salvia as much as Odette's on the cover of the novella. This scene here takes place in Chapter 8 of the story, Our Past. It's available now on Amazon as paperback and ebook of y'all want to read it. - Writing Update: Ok so RaF is well into Round 2 of Betas. My feelings have been up and down about it and I'm pretty sure RaF may actually be pushed to next year. Can't tell you anymore about that until I'm certain. As for book 2 in my The Call for Finis series, Lust, my alpha reader has just started reading the manuscript. I'm hoping to have that ready for betas by Fall. I’ve been a little quiet because I’ve been deep in the writing cave… and a LOT is happening!

Yes—I’m still working on The Hartgrave Tellers series.

The first three books + a novella are officially ready for editing! So that’s in motion.

BUT I’ve also been secretly working on something new…

A romantasy series.

It’s called Windborne: The Skyrend Chronicles and I just locked in the title + posted a sneak peek blurb on my website!

Book one is outlined and I’m so excited about this world—it’s full of magic, rebellion, and emotionally chaotic characters (because of course).

I’m a serial toggler—I write multiple books at once to keep the fire burning, and both series have my whole heart.

WIP UPDATE #1: Starting Revisions, Working on Multiple Projects?!?, and other writing projects.

EXCERPT: 

I promised, a while ago, to give an update on my writing projects, specifically #ProjectMonroe. But I was waiting to do it for something special...but I've decided to go down a different route. So here we are. I've been working on various different projects this past month or so, and I'm so excited to start talking about them...even if I can't go into extreme detail yet.

Project Monroe has been a project I've been working on for almost a decade now. Yep. You read that right: a decade. I've been stuck in drafting hell because I cannot, for the life of me, stick to a damn outline. And I've tried...I've tried really hard to stick to an outline. But my characters always seemed to have a mind of their own and start going down paths of their own. I, being the indecisive person that I am, just follow them.

I have no backbone in my body.

I can't stick to the plan, so my constant drafting of the project was just me trying to find the path that made me happy. And I finally (this year) wrote a draft that made me happy. I finished it mid-September, and I took a step back from the project trying to keep my mind off of it. I worked on other projects, which I will get to in just a moment, and tried to create some distance from the world and the writing of Project Monroe.

After I finished Project Monroe, I took a step back from writing. I didn't want to jump into any major projects after finishing such a...huge project. But I also didn't want to stop writing. I didn't want my writing skills to get too rusty. I wanted to keep the wheels of creativity running. So I took a day or two...perhaps even three days, before I sat down and started writing two short stories.

I was trying to come up with a project to work on while I was working on revisions for Project Monroe. For me, it wasn't that hard. Only two projects came to mind: Project Wonderland and the Time Travel book. For some reason, I really wanted to write something set in the 1940s and/or the 1800s.

Originally, I was working diligently to plan out the story. I wanted it to be a standalone. But as I sat down and wrote the storylines for some odd reason, my brain decided to split the novel into three parts. Don't know why. It just happened.
