Small thing that breaks my heart:

When I was in third grade, I told this boy that it would be my birthday in four days, and he said, “okay, then I’ll buy you flowers.” Four days later he comes up to me and says, “my mom wouldn’t let me get flowers but I found you this violet in the grass.” That in and of itself was iconic and so so sweet, but it gets better.

A month later, I had to move, and because it was third grade, the teacher made everyone write me letters to say goodbye. His said, “I hope you have so much fun in your new house that you forget about me. I hope that you’re always happy and you never miss us. I’m sorry I never gave you flowers, but I can give you some now.” And he fucking. Drew me flowers.

No, Joey, I never forgot you. You are the reason I have standards in this life, and I’m so grateful to have known you. I hope you’re happy, wherever you are, and I hope that the rest of your days are filled with as much joy as you gave to me. I spilled water on the card about five years ago, and half of it is a a jumbled mess now, but I still have it. It’s the only card I still have.

The funny thing is this dude and I hardly ever interacted. I knew he played football because he was on the town’s kids’ team and my brother was on the middle school team, and I knew he was one of, like, three Joeys in our year. I had a crush on him but obviously never communicated that because it was fucking third grade, but somehow those three interactions imprinted on who I am as a person. I am forever changed by Joey from third grade.

Mitosis AU – Doey the Doughman’s Fragmented Remains

Well, now that they’re three separate entities, things have gotten... complicated.

🔨 Kevin is trying to break down a locked door using Matthew as a hammer. Matthew, ever the optimist (or just concussed beyond reason), is convinced that this time he definitely felt it budge. (Spoiler: He didn’t.) 😵‍💫💫

👀 Meanwhile, Matthew and Kevin are in full paranoia mode. They skulk through hallways; slam doors shut and press themselves against walls like they’re in some kind of stealth mission 🎭. Meanwhile, Jack? He’s just walking straight ahead, completely unaware—or maybe just too lost in thought to care. 🚶💭

😢 Jack is off in a corner, hugging what little remains of the past, whispering apologies to no one in particular. For what? Who knows. But it’s sad, and we all feel bad. 💙💔

🎭 And then there are the disguises… Because obviously, slightly off-looking versions of those cheerful critters will totally fool everyone. 🐤🐺 Never mind that they’re stiff, awkward, and so visibly uncomfortable. But hey—A+ for effort, right? ⭐✨

But now I'm getting to the point where I can sleep wrong and need to take ibuprofen when I wake up, so I need to be gentle with myself." He's probably teasing with the last part. "Stilettos?!" Samir's eyes wide. "I don't even get to prance around in kitten heels to start out? ...are you secretly wishing I was taller?" "I try not to dwell on it too much," he says. "I definitely did worse in my time, too. I just try not to be that guy anymore. I like to think life kind of humbled me a little anyway. I can't be an entitled little shit now. Not all the time, anyway." He watches her, nodding as she talks about her prom. "Normal isn't bad, though. No drama and your date not ditching you to go with his idiot friends to score drugs sounds like the right kind of prom. And, I mean... You know half the couples that went probably broke up in a couple weeks anyway. Plus, I'm a little jealous of you ending prom night chilling near Del Perro Pier if I'm being honest..." He cracks a grin at his own reference. "Way cooler." @joey-madani

“Rolling your ankle isn’t a part of the fun. The risk just makes it more exciting, and if you make it to the end of the night without one, it’s definitely a triumph.” Joey honestly just wants to make it home without ending up barefoot. Her flats were left on the doormat. She looks at his shoes with a drawn out ‘oh’, and says, “They do look nice. The unconventional coloring is fun, but I’ll be more impressed with stilettos.”

“I guess at least you hold yourself accountable now. Doesn’t help nineteen year old Samir in any way, but it counts for something.”

“It was — just normal. I was asked by one of the guys on the lacrosse team, my crush asked someone else in the group so I said ‘yes’, we took a limo as a group, and after, we all had a place rented on the beach in Santa Monica. Right by the pier.”
