still not over caleb having spell mastery of fortune's favor. he's a wizard living and working in the heart of the empire, who's likely still very judicious with his use of dunamancy in front of others, and yet he chose that spell to cast without effort, a little piece of the dynasty that he still carries as one of the first spells essek ever taught him. you can't tell me this isn't the wizard equivalent of keeping a picture of your boyfriend in your wallet

essek seeing caleb being flung with a chunk of a tower down and being crashed under the rubble; essek trying to pull him out and using his fortune's favor in order to successfully free him because caleb i need you; essek seeing caleb falling unconscious and then getting back up and then essek angrily using an 8th level spell, that he wanted to save for other things, to cast gravity fissure because he so desperately need this madness to end

morning, do you guys even know I watched essek say "but he's kind, he is smart, and he is so strong... of heart" in the softest way he could ever talk about Caleb, right in front of my eyes like this really happened I didn't hallucinated that

I don’t know about you all, but the way Essek said that Caleb is “so strong” was said with such conviction and pride that I almost started crying. And while I’m sure that’s not a new sentiment, I can’t help but wonder if Essek was thinking about everything Caleb just went through with Trent in Echoes of the Solstice bc Caleb had to be so strong to deal with all of that.
