it is a little funny to me that zach valenti is a vegetarian and seems generally health conscious, considering that doug eiffel is... not that. the opposite of that, even. eiffel would say french fries should count as a vegetable. eiffel thinks ham & pineapple pizza covers all necessary food groups. eiffel has a meat & carbs & grease based diet, sustained by a quick metabolism and an iron stomach. and he is like aggressively american; eiffel is the guy they make novelty fast food items for. there is nothing in this world he wants more than a burger that is also a pizza. doritos® locos tacos and baja blast. that radioactive looking flamin' hot cheetos mac and cheese? he would eat that. no question. that guy loves koolaid flavors that don't even resemble artificial fruit.

Taking the offered piece of food had been difficult, but tasting it had definitely gotten Jake’s interest; fresh fruits were something he’d really missed, even if he hadn’t thought about it in a while. It also made taking the second piece a little easier. Knife-Jake was clearly attempting to share, and freely so; Jake, after all, hadn’t done anything to guilt him into it or request it at all, so he felt… less bad about taking it. It wasn’t like there was a limited amount to go around, either.

Fruit was good, but god, meat was better. So much better than he’d realized or remembered. He’d only had jerky and, once, a stolen piece of game from the Huntress’ cabin— And damn. A rib hit different after ten years of not having anything like it. It was also just satisfying to eat, the way sinew gave way to inhumanly sharp canines, the way the meat pulled from the bone. It was distracting.

And a little worrying, when he realized he’d been so into eating a damn rib that he’d almost completely missed what Knife-Jake had said to him. Maybe it was less the time he had spent away from any kind of food like this, and more the way his brain had been altered. The canine, the carnivore, part. It would certainly explain why he’d zeroed in on it so much.

“Uh… no,” Jake said awkwardly. There was no obvious explanation for his distraction or slight change in demeanor, so he cleared his throat and straightened up a bit. “I got here ’n can’t leave, so… I mean…” He shrugged and glanced away a bit. Jesus it was awkward, knowing the other man but also knowing that Knife didn’t know him. Jake was surprised he hadn’t made the connection yet; if he saw his eyes through the mask, maybe, or just thought about it too long. He knew Knife had seen the nametag, and Jake was wearing a wolf mask with a matching white blaze on the forehead. Or his eyes. His eyes were a dead giveaway, always were—although maybe he was just being paranoid. Hopefully. Hopefully….
