Smart Mc...
I know I have no choice in this but... What about my job and house? I can't leave for a year and expect to still have my job and house, plus if I do, my bills are gonna skyrocket....
Diavolo who didn't think of that:
Lucifer who also didn't think:
Barb who did think but wanted to see how it played out:
So... Uh.... I can't risk... You know... Being homeless after I get back...
Seriously though, how did that work out.
Bows for barb
OH.
I have thought about this. I have written about this in response to an ask before, I think, though it's been a while and I'm wayyyy too lazy to go find it lol.
But this is something I have thought about a lot because that is me.
I have a full time job that I will lose if I just stop showing up. I also have a house with a mortgage that I will also lose if I stop paying said mortgage. I live alone so if I'm not paying the mortgage, nobody is! I would indeed be homeless and unemployed upon returning to the human world.
I mean, yeah, they'll turn off the water and electricity and all that, too, but there won't even be a house if I don't pay the mortgage for a year. And the mortgage company can't get a hold of me? My family can't either? Or my job? Completely MIA as far as anyone can tell?
They're gonna assume I got murdered. Or maybe kidnapped. Or that I just decided to walk off into the woods never to be seen or heard from again.
Now I don't think they'd have me legally declared dead in a year's time. But I'd probably come back to find an open and active police investigation because my family reported me missing.
And even if all that doesn't happen, I will, at the very least, be unemployed and homeless.
This is the first thing I personally would discuss upon being summoned into the Devildom and told I was part of some random exchange program. I'd be like hang on, what about my job and my house, huh? Don't get me wrong, I am all about this, I love the idea of demons and angels and magic, I want to stay. But you'll either have to pay off my mortgage so I don't lose my house and I dunno... find me a new job when I get back or somehow secure my current one (good luck lol) OR allow me to stay here for the rest of my natural life...
Anyway, sorry to rant but this is something I have thought about too much.
I like to think that they've somehow worked out these details. Diavolo owns a corporation in the human world, right? Maybe he just hires MC as a virtual assistant so they can work from anywhere. And he does pay off any mortgage or rent or whatever they need while they're in the Devildom.
That'd be nice. While he's at it, do you think he would pay to have my house painted? I've been wanting to do that for a while. It needs a new fence, too. And I need to have several bushes removed. I could also do with a new backsplash in the kitchen. And the shower needs to be recaulked...
Or he could just replace it with a nice mansion, I'd be okay with that, too. SPOILER for OG Season Three but they do give MC Serenity Manor, so. It's not like it's totally out of the question!!!

Ok I was going to wait to post this until the whole lineup was completed but that's never going to happen! These are my (hopefully) final designs for Beetlejuice and Lydia that I'll be using in my cartoon revival project (which I'll gladly accept help on, if anyone wants to)

Here I go to spend several days by myself in the North Carolina wilderness. Wish me luck. Never gone camping alone (but I have my dogs, and I trust them more than any people I know), so that's intimidating. Hopefully I don't have to fistfight a bear over whatever I'm cooking that night. Not looking forward to no toilet or shower until Monday, but it is what it is. I absolutely have to do this, for my mental health. I'm losing so much money taking the time off work to just have mountain time to myself. But I gotta. My life has been such a chaotic mess for over half a year now - everything that could go wrong, has - and I've never felt so close to just letting myself snap. I can feel it boiling right under the surface at any given time.
But yeah. Should be a time. Might post pictures upon my return (provided a bear doesn't decide I'm on the menu). Wish me luck!

Copperhead is 100% dedicated to his job, going to great lengths to ensure success at whatever task his employer pays him to do. Even if somebody offers him a greater sum of money to spare them, he'll turn it down every time, preferring to complete his original contract as professionalism dictates. He'll kill anybody or steal anything for the right price but his one and only rule is never harm children, nor use them in order to get to his target/s.

unsolicited medical advice from a customer today 😃
#firstly. i was in training she was literally my first customer. secondly. i am VOLUNTEERING i'm not even paid to be here. thirdly. why the#fuck would i tell you the details of my immune system fuckery. i have Got to get better at just going 'no' to people tbh#didn't want to seem rude. but there is only so far Customer Service Voice can take you#other than that it was a really good time i enjoyed it. but like. my first customer#even my supervisor was like wow i cannot believe the first people you got were like that. are you ok#neon has thoughts#the essence of the conversation was this:#me (wearing a mask): hi can i help you! :)#Person I Have Never Met: why are you wearing that (as well as asking for her ticket)#me: uh. medical reasons? i'm immunocompromised?#her: (stares at me for a moment) so what are you doing about that#me: ????#the mask???#her: like are you taking vitamins to Boost Your Immune System. because the mask won't help it actually makes things worse.#me: here is your ticket! :) (please go away)#this all took place while i was waiting for the ticket to print. sigh#her intro was actually more like 'are you ok' which i initially thought was because i looked too obviously like a person who has literally#started 5 mins ago. but no.#ANYWAY. frustrating situation. in theory i know i should've just said personal reasons but i didn't wanna be rude (especially not while i#was actively being watched by supervisor) so it was like. well what do you want me to say#'boost my immune system' I Have A Disease Random Woman I Have Never Spoken To In My Life

Don't you love seeing the NHL lure young men in with the promise of being something great, of playing in the best league in the world, and yet then when push comes to shove, these teams would rather save a few bucks than have the best players in the world playing on their ice.
I just hate seeing how, time and time again, young players are forced off the ice because of a dispute over m o n e y.
The guys that are now the face of your league and your teams, and who you've probably made millions off of, can't play right now because their teams can't or won't pay them.
You saw it with marner and nylander and now drsydale and zegras... it just frustrates me to no end that you'd rather have these guys sitting out the first couple of weeks than paying them and getting them on the ice

Soooo, I haven't mentioned here yet as not to jinx it, but I guess now I can.
I got a training job/work rehabilitation position at a local school and so far it has been great although I've only been twice and we're still putting together my schedule.
But of course this morning I ran a bit to catch the bus (which was early! WHY?) and fell, so it's only the third day and I had to call in because I need to go to the doctor (I scraped my knee pretty bad, and also scratched my glasses (and two tiny scratches on my nose/brow, but the glasses saved me).
Uh. I'm not even upset, just frustrated with myself because this happened only because I'm too eager.
As if the world would end if I had caught the next bus and was maybe a minute late. *is exasperated with self*
I should've known better after getting sick twice and a having minor car accident right at the beginning of my two previous jobs (although I have learned from those and at least am getting plenty of rest and enough sleep to hopefully not get sick.)
Oh well.
Nevermind.
Just had to tell someone/vent.

One of the things I kind of like saying but it really, REALLY pisses neurotypical people off- is "it's just a piece of paper."
Stupid laws? Piece of paper. The Constitution? Piece of paper. Money? Paper. Marriage certificate? Piece of paper. Any contract, degree, ect is a piece of paper. Your value you place on the paper is just that- your value of a piece of paper.
#be chronically ill and tell me every doctor you meet is the smartest person you know#it won't happen#i just watched a docuseries where two BIOLOGISTS went for a hike and one got bit by a rattle snake#and the other tried to suck the venom out and they WRAPPED HIS LEG TIGHTLY while he BIKED MILES back to civilization#literally everything wrong they could have done any they're degree biologists#they paid money for a piece of paper#marrige is a contract which is a piece of paper at the end of the day#people get really mad about that too that marrige is a partnership contract#if you get legally married anyway#and i don't mean to undermine the history of people fighting for marrige equality or anything like that#its just seeing cis het norms doing things like making gameshows for quick marriges to have obligation families#thats a sobering reminder on its the value placed on paper#the constitution obviously is outdated and had been constructed by privileged and some problematic men hundreds of years ago#its a piece of paper regularly used to opress just as often as to protect#what are laws when theres a dictator? you know how many laws are violated by rich people in power? why if i threatened#someone id be scooped up and forced hospitalized while rich white people can threaten acts of treason and sleep in their mansion the same#night. the pieces of paper (laws) are only enforced to such extents when it is convenient (to oppress) many times over#sorry I'm manic and having intrusive thoughts#my point is people break laws and sometimes it's almost like laws are just pieces of paper used or not used when whoever sees fit

yandere! psych inmate who is in love with his dear psychologist, you.
he's a rich man, obviously, and he's been seeing multiple psychologists for his issues. yet, none of them ever really worked well.
you won't get better, they told him.
yeah right, that's not what he paid to hear. he wanted to feel something. he never could feel any emotions ever since he was young. so why are these people not doing anything to help? anyway, he got so fed up that he stopped going to these psychologists all together. that is, until his friend recommended you.
his friend had changed a whole 180, totally better as compared to a year before. he sang praises about his psychologist, your name spilling from his lips like a mantra. and... that's when your future psych inmate decided to give you a shot.
the first time he saw you, he swears he felt himself visibly react to your very presence.
instictively, he knew that he loved you. so much so that he never wanted to leave your office. of course, he couldn't just tell you that though. you'd be scared away.
but... the feelings he had for you were so intense that he just couldn't help himself.
"i really love you! please-"
but you shut him down the second he said that, shaking your head as you let out a sigh. and your new client just sat there quietly, brain not processing your words. it took him a good five minutes for your actions to finally sink in.
rejection.
he got rejected.
when he went home that day, he shut down immediately. falling to his knees as he curled up into a ball on the ground. the overwhelming feelings that appeared so suddenly came crashing down on him.
mania, anger, obsession.
he didn't know what to make of it. all of these emotions... he's never felt them before and they're all just hitting him at full force. he doesn't know whether to be glad or not that you finally helped him feel emotions.
that's why he decides to act on these emotions. surely that's what he's supposed to do to deal with the overwhelming heartbreak he feels right now, yes?
...and it landed him in the mental hospital, with you overseeing him.
"you-"
he tunes out the rest of your words, eyes turning into hearts as he realizes that now, you're bound to him. you must care for him because he's your patient. that's your job. you can't just leave him halfway. that's just wrong.
and he'll do everything in his power to make sure you know that.

the Jewish high holidays are coming up soon!!!!
goyim, these are days to avoid scheduling important events, meetings, etc:
Rosh Hashanah - evening of Wednesday, October 2nd - evening of Thursday, October 3rd (& some Jews will continue observing for an additional day, through the evening of Friday, October 4th)
Yom Kippur - evening of Friday, October 11th - evening of Saturday, October 12th
Jews, you do you and obviously your safety is paramount, but I really strongly recommend TAKING THESE DAYS OFF WORK even if you don't consider yourself particularly observant, even if you won't be spending the day in synagogue, even if you aren't fasting. Most Christians* don't go to work on Christmas even if they aren't going to church that day and are just having a secular celebration at home with family. Holidays mean different things to different people, but especially if your workplace has a policy supporting religious holiday observance, USE YOUR DAYS without guilt. Know that it actually makes it EASIER for other Jews when you do so, because it helps to prevent the whole conversation with a boss of "well that guy is Jewish and he said he doesn't need the day off because he's just going to go to evening services."
yes it sucks SO hard if you are in a type of job where you are put in a position where you are forced to use PTO or just lose pay for something that people of other religions get for free -- i'm more speaking to people who work in offices or similar type of jobs* where they may have holiday time off as a DEI initiative but feel guilty using it because i have been there!!!!! last year i was the only jew at my workplace who took off for yom kippur even though it was paid because the other jews said they didn't feel jewish enough to do it and they had a meeting that day!!!!!!
*obviously if you are an ER surgeon or something like that, YMMV here

I have to explain what is going on in the UK, because it is absurd.
So, this is Gary Lineker:
Tumblr media
He's known for a fair few things over here. He was a very good (association) footballer, playing for England in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, winning the Golden Boot in 1986, and managing to never get a single yellow card in his playing career. He played for Leicester City, Everton, Barcelona, and Tottenham, before finishing his career in Japan. But if you aren't in your mid 30s, you probably know actually know him him for a couple of other things. The first is the role of spokesman for another Leicester icon, Walkers Crisps (which are sort of equivalent to Lays, but hit different), as pictured above. Despite being a notably clean player, he used to play a cheeky serial crisp thief. I don't think he's done that for well over a decade, but his ads were on the telly a lot when I was a kid and it's a bit like learning that the hamburglar was an incredibly clean (American) football player or something.
The second thing Gary is widely known for is having presented Match of the Day, the big football program on the BBC, the sort-of state broadcaster, since 1999. He is, incidentally, very well paid for this (though with a consensus that he could get even more if he went to one of the non-free-to-view broadcasters because he is very good at the job). He also has a twitter account. And political opinions. So, the UK government has got itself dead set upon doing heinous stuff that will totally somehow work to prevent people who want to come to the UK making the perilous crossing of the Channel (between England and France). By heinous, I mean "openly advertise that they won't attempt to protect victims of modern slavery" stuff. It's very obviously using a legal hammer to victimise a marginalised group of people in order to win votes. And, uh, I should clarify that by "legal" I mean "using the passage of laws" - the policy is, in addition to all the other ways it's awful, probably incompatible with the Human Rights Act and the UK's international law obligations. Gary, top lad that he is, objected to this. On Tuesday 7th March, he made a quote Tweet of a video of the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, bigging up the policy, he wrote "Good heavens, this is beyond awful.". This got a bunch of backlash from extremely right-wingers, and then he made the tweet that really got him in trouble (with right-wingers): "There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?".
Now, I am not actually subjecting myself to watching a video of Suella Braverman bigging up a cruel policy to say whether the specific comparison of the language to 1930s Germany is accurate. But needless to say, Ms Braverman was amongst the many figures on the right of UK politics objecting to Gary's rhetoric. And here's the part where a fact about the BBC comes in: it is nominally neutral and impartial (and so, of course, is routinely accused of bias from all sides but particularly the right-wing), and has something of a code for its contributors to this effect. Now, that code has previously been applied to Gary Lineker, over a comment about whether governing Conservative Party would hand back donations from figures linked to the Russian regime. But it generally hasn't been applied too strongly to people like Gary, whose roles have nothing to do with politics (such as presenting a "here's what happened on the footie today" show), on the basis that, well, their roles have nothing to do with politics. However, when directly asked about whether the BBC should punish Gary Lineker for his tweets, government figures basically went "well, that's a them problem". But a couple of days passed, and it seemed like Gary's approach of "standing his ground because he did nothing wrong" was working and everything would die down. He was set to get 'a talking to' but not much more than that. The Conservative right, after all their fire and fury earlier, had gotten bored and moved onto something else. And then, on Friday 10th March, the BBC announced that he would be suspended from hosting Match of the Day this weekend. But it could still go ahead, because there are, like, other hosts! Except, well, funnily enough, when you take a beloved figure off air, for making a fairly anodyne tweet, no one wants to be the scab who actually takes up the role of replacing him. Gary's two co-hosts, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, said that they would not appear without him. People who (co-)host Match of the Day on other days followed suit. The net result is that Match of the Day is currently set to air without hosts, BBC commentary, or global feed commentary. And the solidarity shown to Gary Lineker, over what is very flagrantly actual cancel culture and an attack on freedom of speech (the logic implied is that institutional impartiality requires that no one say anything too critical of the government ever), has continued to grow. The BBC has pretty much been unable to run pretty much any live sports content today, and has resorted to raiding the BBC Sounds archive to fill the sports radio channel. And, as of 17:30 on Saturday 11th March, the situation shows no signs of improvement, though some are calling for the Chairman Richard Sharp, who is separately facing corruption allegations, to resign (yes I linked to the BBC itself there, there is nothing, nothing, the BBC loves more than going into great detail about how much the BBC sucks).

all joking aside i really don't have any money at all saved up or any kind of safety net so this is not a situation i can at all afford to be in, lol. hi, i work in the hospitality industry and just lost my job due to mismanagement of the place causing literally everyone to leave such that they couldn't even run the restaurant anymore. i'm owed around £400 in tips that i'll bet my life are never going to be paid out, i also strongly suspect i won't get paid next week as i'm supposed to which will leave me with just a few hundred in my bank account until god knows when. i'm obviously sending my CV out to anywhere that'll have me but this industry is brutal; i'm also a trans person in the UK, a notoriously employable position to occupy.
anything helps, i just need money to tide myself over until i can get back on my feet. you can also subscribe to my patreon where i post little media essays; i have one on god's own country and wuthering heights ready to post very shortly. otherwise you can send me money here.
