The Emperor’s New Groove - What animal would you associate your muse with? Why?

I associate Lyr with wolves (pack animals, loyal, good hunters, more wild than dogs but still very dog-like) and bears (bc bear hugs, and fiercely protective).

Alice in Wonderland - What does your muse often dream of? Do they have strange dreams? Pleasant ones? Nightmares?

He mostly dreams of being in the water, swimming down down down into the darkest depths. Sometimes these are pleasant dreams. Sometimes they’re strange. Sometimes they’re nightmares.

He also has nightmares about his mom’s death on occasion.

Last song: If you had asked me about an hour ago it would’ve been Chopin. But right now, it’s “willow - lonely witch version” by Taylor Swift. I’m listening through her remixes of “willow” for the first time.

Last film: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. That movie has the clunkiest script, but I still love it so much.

Currently watching: I am so bad at watching things. I need to keep watching Victoria, but I’ve just been so busy lately that I don’t have the time.

Currently reading: I just finished A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles today!!!! I really really loved it. I currently have a ton of books I’m juggling. I’ve been reading a few poems per day from When the Light of the World Was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through: A Norton Anthology of Native Nations Poetry (which is excellent.) I’m still reading my way through Tactics and the Experience of Battle in the Age of Napoleon by Rory Muir, which I really have to applaud for explaining what soldiers actually did without condescension, which I very much appreciate as I actually didn’t know much before I started this book. I just started Matilda: Empress, Queen, Warrior by Catherine Hanley, though I’m not very far in yet. I just bought the 5th volume of Monstress the other day, and I’m excited to dive into that soon, though I probably need to refresh myself on volume 4. I’m also still “officially” reading the Selected Letters of Catherine the Great, Pan Tadeusz (trans. Bill Johnston) and War & Peace (trans. Louise and Aylmer Maude, ed. by Amy Mandelker) (a new translation to me!), though those are all kinda on pause right now.

Currently craving: Snow!! There hasn’t been a proper, real snow yet and it makes me very sad.

3 ships: Goodness, I’m always so bad at these sorts of questions. In no order, ships on my mind lately:

Andrierretasha - Andrei Bolkonsky/Pierre Bezukhov/Natasha Rostova (War & Peace)

Clois - Clark Kent/Lois Lane (Man of Steel/Batman v. Superman)

Raoul de Chagny/Christine Daaé (The Phantom of the Opera)

Last song: “Bells, Boxes” by Brittain Ashford. Just something bright and lovely for this evening :) Plus I’ve really been craving snow lately.

Last film: I believe it was Enola Holmes on Netflix? Which I very much enjoyed. It was delightful. Just a wonderful romp with a big heart. 

Currently reading: I’m one of those gremlins that has a bunch of different books on various levels of paused or not. So here’s the list:

War & Peace - Leo Tolstoy (trans. by Louise and Aylmer Maude and revised and edited by Amy Mandelker) - it’s really fun to read an alternate translation from my “home base” of Pevear & Volokhonsky.

Tactics and the Experience of Battle in the Age of Napoleon - Rory Muir - I’m reading this as research for my NaNoWriMo this year.

Children of the City: At Work and at Play - David Nasaw - I only have about a chapter in this left. It’s mostly stuff I already knew, but it would be a good starting-point for research if you were diving into the topic for the first time, I think.

Selected Letters - Catherine the Great (trans. by Andrew Kahn and Kelsey Rubin-Detlev) - so I’m only a few letters into this. Sue me. I’m very glad I’ve read a biography of her before I started this.

Pan Tadeusz: The Last Foray in Lithuania - Adam Mickiewicz (trans. Bill Johnston) - I started this months ago and need to crack it again. I think fans of Pushkin would be interested to give it a try, though.

Currently watching: I’m so bad at watching tv. I’m pretty excited to watch Bridgerton when it comes out in December, though. And I’d like to watch Victoria and Merlin (I started it in high school and never finished it), but will I find the will within myself to sit down and do so? We’ll see.

Currently consuming: A mostly cold peppermint hot chocolate, because I wanted to celebrate the first day of starbucks winter drinks. After that I’m going to go make a cup of tea, though. :)

Currently craving: The will to go work on my NaNoWriMo. And snow!

What's the good side of a bad thing and what's the bad side of a good thing? -Matty ((...I was not responsible for this.))

Let's say something happens, relatively bad, like a terrible earthquake. But then something good might come of it, like, say the moles built a tunnel that was in horrible condition. After all the earth gets churned up, they can rebuild it good as new! That's a good side of a bad thing. 

But then the bad side of that would be that maybe one of them would break a claw and be out of work for a month and then his family would be in a sore spot. But then he might find a new hobby, such as button collecting! I had an uncle once who collected buttons, but he was always thinking someone would steal it, so he buried it somewhere and now he doesn't know where it is. Which brings me back to earthquakes. No wait, hold on, what was the question?
