Title: you were all i wanted
Author: galwithalibrarycard
Fandoms: Lovely Little Losers, Nothing Much to Do (Web Series)
Relationship: Beatrice Duke/Benedick Hobbes
Characters: Beatrice Duke, Benedick Hobbes, Meg Winter, Freddie Kingston, Jaquie Manders, mentions of others
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Another way Beadick could've gotten over their shit and gotten back together, Karaoke, inspired by a taylor swift song - Freeform, Fluff and Angst, all you had to do was stay
Summary:
In which Meg gets the crew to a karaoke bar, Beatrice sings "All You Had to Do Was Stay" with one very significant lyric change, and revelations happen. Or, just another way Bea and Ben could have gotten their shit together at or near the end of Lolilo.
(Because sometimes you watch a Taylor Swift concert movie and you love it so much and it reminds you so much of your OTP that you just have to sit down and bring a whole fanfic into existence in one sitting.)

all of your princess bride reblogs are making me so happy im so glad you like my favorite movie
I love it!! I watched it with @smithasandwich a few nights ago and we both really enjoyed it—it was our first time watching it all the way through. I’d previously only seen it intermittently (on the bus during a long field trip with my high school orchestra) or partway through (with my mom while she visited my college). I’m so glad I finally had a chance to see the full thing and see where all the famous quotes, lines, and memes come from—I think “I want my father back, you son of a bitch!!!” is my favorite.
My favorite thing about this movie is how it works perfectly as a hilarious comedy, an exciting adventure, AND a swoonworthy romance (can’t believe Westley and Buttercup invented love…or at least renewed the patent after Beatrice and Benedick). All those different genres and tones interact perfectly in that movie. I think part of this is because the plot is ridiculous and fun enough to be comedic, but the characters take it fully seriously and with total sincerity, and thus so do we—that’s how it can make you Feel Feelings. Sorry to “blorbo from my shows” this, but my favorite thing about one of my favorite Cowboy Bebop episodes, “Toys in the Attic,” is how it works so well as both a comedy (that draws from parody & pastiche and tells us more about the characters) AND a legitimately spooky horror episode. I’ve seen comments that say “this episode was so funny!” and “this episode was so scary!” and they’re BOTH right. The Princess Bride is the same way. I’ve seen it on lists of “greatest adventure movies of all time,” “greatest comedies of all time,” and “greatest romances of all time,” and they’re ALL correct!
You have good taste in movies, my friend!! (I think it’s also funny that I scrolled through some of your Princess Bride tag and, in one post where you shared something for “all your fandoms”, realized I’m now familiar with all of those fandoms—I’ve read Six of Crows, Red White and Royal Blue, and The Song of Achilles, and now I’ve watched The Princess Bride, too!) Thanks so much for the ask, and I’m glad I could make you happy!!

anyways the version of much ado about nothing starring catherine tate and david tennant as beatrice and benedick is a Classic. david tennant’s benedick is FULL chaotic dumbass, and catherine tate’s beatrice is past being full of rage and is completely done with everyone from the very beginning. plus, they just work off each other so well.
not to mention the costumes and props. benedick in drag? BENEDICK IN JORTS AND A SUPERMAN SHIRT? beatrice wearing a suit? beatrice swaggering around with a beer in her hand, while benedick sips on pink, fruity cocktails? benedick writing his love song to beatrice on one of those stupid little electric keyboards? unparalleled artistry.

Favorite Fic I Wrote from 2021
Why not be a little self-promoting here?
Experiment 823: Maximum Overdrive (MST3K): Mike and the Bots are subjected to one of my favorite bad movies, and reenact an infamous scene involving Stephen King and an ATM.
Not a People-Pleaser (The Good Place): In which Eleanor must step up to the role of being humanity’s Queen Esther.
Princess of Orkney (The Once and Future King/Arthurian Legend): Another Ester fusion! TH White’s fascist version of Mordred encounters some difficulty from his sister in law Ragnell. I’m proud of the backstory in this one!
Death is Not the End, Episode 19: Lovely Creature (The Kindness of Strangers - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Song)): A fictional true crime podcast examines the murder of Mary Bellows, strange seaside sightings, and the dark ending to the leading suspect. ( I want Phoebe Judge to do the podfic!)
Another True Thomas (American Pie - Don McLean (Song): The Fairy Queen grants visions of music yet to come.
Jonathan Crane Plays D&D (Batman Comics): A fix-fic where the boy who would have grown up to be Scarecrow instead finds friendship and help the same way many teen outcasts did in the 70s. There’s still murder!
Thy Fearful Symmetry (Star Trek The Original Series): Uhura flirts with Mirror Spock, and it works far better than she expected.
Second Act Comedy (Much Ado About Nothing/Romeo and Juliet): A visit to Beatrice’s cousins the Capulets results in her and Benedick getting caught in yet another love scheme.
She could easily work a miracle or two (Arthurian Legend): Galahad, daughter of Lancelot, just wants to help everyone if they will let her.
What I Know (The Wicker Man 1973): A woman who spent her childhood in the Summerisle cult tries to piece together what exactly she witnessed.

Thanks for tagging me, @saxifrage-wreath. I know you tagged me as @thewatercolours, but I am going to post here on my personal, general blog.
Currently reading: The Idiot by Dostoevsky (classic), The Book of Genesis (and listening to Fr. Mike Schmitz's excellent Bible in a Year podcast) (scripture), rereading Dorothy L. Sayers' "Man Born to Be King" cycle (scriptural drama), and "Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell" by Brandon Sanderson (fantasy.) Recently finished Adorning the Dark and The Goblin Emperor.
Last song: "Into the Woods" by Stephen Sondheim, from the 2014 film soundtrack, which I heretically prefer to the original Broadway cast recording.
Last film: "Into the Woods" - see above. It was a gloriously beautiful, atmospheric film, with a quality cast who could actually sing, and had a lovely melancholy touched with humour to it. Tough I wasn't a fan of the stepsisters' costumes.
Currently watching: I love Korean historical dramas, so I was excited to start watching a new one tonight, but so so disappointed in how immature it was that I didn't even extend it the grace to get past the first episode, and am not even going to mention its name.
Three ships: I don't do much in the way of active shipping fandom, and it feels difficult to narrow down the many fictional couples I've loved in literature, but off the top of my head, I'll say...Tommy and Tuppence from the works of Agatha Christie, Adolin and Shallan from The Stormlight Archive, and Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing. Ask me tomorrow, and I'd name a completely different set.
First ever ship: Um... I don't know? Rodolfo and Mimi from "La Boheme" by Puccini?
Currently consuming: Nothing, but I love a cup of Monk's Blend, or Earl Grey, or Jasmine.
Currently craving: Fortitude to keep writing my novel.
4 songs on repeat:
"Beautiful Night" by The National Parks, "Man's Road" by Ernesto Villareal, " "New Year" by Regina Spektor, "Runaway" by Aurora

Happy Saint Valentine in advance! 💝😊 3, 16, 24, 26, 35.
3. favorite love song?
It’s a tie between Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer and Leather & Lace by Stevie Nicks
16. favorite love story?
Oh gosh how to choose one love story? Out of all of creation? All of fiction? How?! I think, since I just watched a production of it this weekend, I have to go with Beatrice and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing. The way they match wits, challenge each other, hide their hurt behind venom but undeniably care about each other, the story that they weren’t in the right places in their life to make it work the first time, but now they’re older and ready to grow together. It’s a joy to watch. And ever since watching it I’ve been obsessed with the lesbian version that exists in my head and how I would direct it.
24. what makes you blush?
Compliments of any sort 😅 I have no idea what to do when people compliment me
26. do you believe in soulmates?
I’m with you on this one—I think there are lots of people we’re meant to meet and love in many different ways during our lives who will help us grow. But we’re tumblr soulmates forever 😘
35. would you prefer to propose or be proposed to? what’s your dream proposal?
I’d definitely prefer being proposed to! I honestly haven’t thought much about my dream proposal, but I would probably like it to be during an evening walk in a park after a nice dinner or something. Peaceful and simple and romantic.

bold of you to assume i have a dedicated WIP folder, but let's see what we've got! many of these are just word docs for a specific fandom, and i put a bunch of little snippets all together without titles, and many of those snippets will never be posted anywhere. and it's going under a cut because there's a ton

I think I like Much Ado About Nothing so much not only because it’s about a charming, sassy, smart, power couple working for the good of the people around them, but also because it is, at its heart, a hurt/comfort fic:  BEATRICE Is he not approved in the height a villain, that hath slandered, scorned, dishonoured my kinswoman? O that I were a man! What, bear her in hand until they come to take hands; and then, with public accusation, uncovered slander, unmitigated rancour, --O God, that I were a man! I would eat his heart in the market-place.
...
BEATRICE Princes and counties! Surely, a princely testimony, a goodly count, Count Comfect; a sweet gallant, surely! O that I were a man for his sake! or that I had any friend would be a man for my sake! But manhood is melted into courtesies, valour into compliment, and men are only turned into tongue, and trim ones too: he is now as valiant as Hercules that only tells a lie and swears it. I cannot be a man with wishing, therefore I will die a woman with grieving. BENEDICK Tarry, good Beatrice. By this hand, I love thee. BEATRICE Use it for my love some other way than swearing by it.
BENEDICK Think you in your soul the Count Claudio hath wronged Hero? BEATRICE Yea, as sure as I have a thought or a soul. BENEDICK Enough, I am engaged; I will challenge him. I will kiss your hand, and so I leave you. By this hand, Claudio shall render me a dear account. As you hear of me, so think of me. Go, comfort your cousin: I must say she is dead: and so, farewell.
AND:  LEONATO Canst thou so daff me? Thou hast kill'd my child: If thou kill'st me, boy, thou shalt kill a man. ANTONIO He shall kill two of us, and men indeed: But that's no matter; let him kill one first; Win me and wear me; let him answer me. Come, follow me, boy; come, sir boy, come, follow me: Sir boy, I'll whip you from your foining fence; Nay, as I am a gentleman, I will. LEONATO Brother,-- ANTONIO Content yourself. God knows I loved my niece; And she is dead, slander'd to death by villains, That dare as well answer a man indeed As I dare take a serpent by the tongue: Boys, apes, braggarts, Jacks, milksops! LEONATO Brother Antony,-- ANTONIO Hold you content. What, man! I know them, yea, And what they weigh, even to the utmost scruple,-- Scrambling, out-facing, fashion-monging boys, That lie and cog and flout, deprave and slander, Go anticly, show outward hideousness, And speak off half a dozen dangerous words, How they might hurt their enemies, if they durst; And this is all.
AND:
BENEDICK ...and now tell me, how doth your cousin? BEATRICE Very ill. BENEDICK And how do you? BEATRICE Very ill too. BENEDICK Serve God, love me and mend. But if you still doubt it, you should listen to this song, which is almost entirely quotes from the play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YhHM1ybfPI

Hello!
I mentioned this on the ISOLATING podcast today.
Here is a six round quiz you can do with your friends/family/frenemies in person or over the internet/WhatApp. The questions are mostly from the amazing Louise O’Connor and I wrote some of the less good ones. Please go on Twitter and say thanks to her. She’s @oconnola.
You can use this quiz but the only rule is that you have make a donation to a charity that is helping vulnerable people at this time. In Ireland, good ones are Alone or Age Action. Please find a similar one in your country/area. And if you could ask the people who are playing with you to do likewise.
It’s one point for a correct answer plus a bonus of two if you can get the link that ties each round together, so the whole quiz is out of 72 points. Sometimes it’s easier to figure out the link and work backwards to get the questions.
The way I did it with my family was to use the main O’Doherty family WhatsApp. There are forty people across three time zones on that. I told them we’d be having a quiz at 8pm Irish time and to form teams and nominate a captain. In the end there were six teams and they could converse with the rest of their team across video platforms. At 8pm I cut and pasted the questions from round one up on the WhatsApp and gave them 10 (more like 15mins really) for the team captains to get the answers back to me directly . Then we moved on to round two. There was a threat of excommunication from the family if anyone cheated.
I corrected them and my Dad did the scores while they were deliberating on the next round and it was one of the most fun nights of the pandemic so far!
Good luck with it and let’s all just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Let me know how it goes.
