Buck Up For Bikes Adds World Bicycle Relief As New Beneficiary

We are pleased to announce the addition of World Bicycle Relief to our Bikeflights Buck Up For Bikes program. Since its launch in 2016, Buck Up For Bikes has raised more than $120,000 for non-profit cycling organizations.

“The work that World Bicycle Relief does in using bicycles to change lives fits perfectly with the mission of our Buck Up For Bikes program to get more people on bikes and supports the future of cycling,” said Sue George, Vice President of Bikeflights. “As we grow Bikeflights and serve more international bike shipping customers, we’re excited to expand Buck Up For Bikes to benefit more people around the globe.”

World Bicycle Relief empowers people and communities through life-changing bicycles. Equipped with a purpose-designed Buffalo Bicycle from World Bicycle Relief, individuals in low-income regions can access education, markets, health facilities and vital services they need to thrive – becoming a force for change and creating opportunities for themselves, their families and entire communities.

World Bicycle Relief joins our roster of existing Buck Up For Bikes beneficiaries including Trips For Kids, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, the International Mountain Bike Association and Little Bellas. 

Everyone who ships with Bikeflights has the opportunity to Buck Up For Bikes. You get the option to contribute a buck (or more!) at checkout. We collect and cover the costs of processing donations, making sure that every dollar donated goes directly to the partner organizations. We also cover all costs of administering and publicizing the program.

World Bicycle Relief was also named the official charity of the 2023 UCI World Cycling Championships, featuring 13 different world championship events on August 3-13, 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Great ride with the #worldbicyclerelief group this morning, 110 miles 5hours. Good opportunity to work on my FatMax. Fueling was @torqfitness hydrate initially, then after an hour moved onto TORQ energy, regular gels and 1 bar and 1 🍌. Still lost a fair bit of water weight, so it's really important that you get the fluids in you as soon as possible. I consumed at least 60gm of carbs after the first hour, heart rate mid 120s a little over 3w/kg. Visited several Buffalo Bike shops across Zambia together with the @locosciclos. Those shops provide complete bikes, parts and maintenance for the Buffalo Bikes. They're also great stops for touring cyclists riding on 26" wheels and looking for puncture proof tires...the special Kenda Buffalo tire is, cheap, puncture proof and long lasting. The staff we talked to was always very passionate and knowledgeable about the Buffalo Bike and even the different processes like bike distribution to schools and other programs...the @locosciclos took their time for in depth interviews and video clips for their WBR fundraising project. Super interesting to see the evolution from the old to the new shops... I've ridden my bike almost 200miles since Friday - because I wanted to and because I can. Rory Macleod, you are a man of extraordinary magnitude. Day #1 Recap

Today we woke up after a refreshing night of sleep. After breakfast we headed to World Bicycle Relief, one of the beneficiaries of Bike Zambia. It’s actually probably my favorite because I love to see and hear the difference that a bike can make in a person's and/or family's life. When a child receives a bike, it means access to education. When a caregiver receives a bike, it means more clients they can see. When a family receives a bike, it means access to economic opportunities. I absolutely love what they do and encourage you to look into them. This visit was actually more fun than the 2013 because we got to see more about the manufacturing process of the bikes. In 2013 their shipment of bike components was held up in port so there wasn’t active manufacturing happening. After touring the facilities, we built a bike with native Zambian mechanic. It took about an hour to put it together. After heading back to camp we setup our bikes and got them fit. This year I brought my own pedals and also my bike computer so I can add our rides to strata.
