A few days ago we reached Chafilwa in darkness and heavy rain. We checked a bit around and found this lodge...when asking the guy for a room he mentioned that another Asian cyclist is accommodated there as well. Of course we've been very curious to meet that guy...now guess what...the guy who showed up didn't look Asian at all 😂 he turned out to be @lusteiner with whom I've been in touch with on Instagram 😉. After cycling two days in nonstop rain, Dan and I woke up in a traditional hut. We didn't catch up with Byron and Quincy that evening because we took too much time taking pictures and enjoying the rain. In the evening we decided to look for a place to camp and asked some people if we could pitch our tents on their farm...the people were super nice and gave us a dry hut and invited us over to a bonfire...Dan played the guitar and made the special atmosphere perfect. We knew that the guys camped in a school about 16km ahead of us...so we pushed hard to catch up. Unfortunately there wasn't any food available for a good stretch, everyone was super happy to find a tiny shop or person on the road every now and then who was selling a little something to keep us going. Finally, no rain...yeahhh...it was a great day with lots of nice encounters, friendly people, and a lake swim for the locosciclos. Spent two days on a mokoro and walking safari in the Okavango Delta wilderness with the @locosciclos. Botswana comes with one highlight after the other! "Okavango Delta"...doesn't that sound like a wilderness place you've seen in some National Geographic documentary? Oh yessss, we camped a night on an island in the delta and moved two days by food and mokoro. It's difficult to describe the incredible tranquility and the feeling of adventure while being out there. Hippos walked beside our tents and made their grunting noise during the night. Cycled with the @locosciclos from Kasane to Nata...this about 310km long stretch is known as the elephant corridor. We saw elephants on the road and beside of the road almost everyday. How cool is that?! Wildlife in a nature park from a car is one thing, but being out there in the wild with nothing in between you and those giants is a total different thing! Some graceful giraffes also showed up. We planned to camp at least one night out in the wild. When I asked some roadworkers for water and told them about our plan, they considered our idea pretty crazy and invited us to stay at their fenced camp...well semi fenced, as the fence was widely taken down by elephants. There is never enough wildlife experience! In the afternoon we went for a chilled boat safari with beers 😎 on the Chobe river. Somewhere in rural Zambia we (@velosophics, @locosciclos, @lusteiner) got invited to camp in a school...people are so welcoming and nice everywhere! In the morning at about half past six, the pupils started arriving at the school. Visited several Buffalo Bike shops across Zambia together with the @locosciclos. Those shops provide complete bikes, parts and maintenance for the Buffalo Bikes. They're also great stops for touring cyclists riding on 26" wheels and looking for puncture proof tires...the special Kenda Buffalo tire is, cheap, puncture proof and long lasting. The staff we talked to was always very passionate and knowledgeable about the Buffalo Bike and even the different processes like bike distribution to schools and other programs...the @locosciclos took their time for in depth interviews and video clips for their WBR fundraising project. Super interesting to see the evolution from the old to the new shops...
