This chart was created with data from AO3, including locked works, from about 9:00 p.m. EDT on 3/28/2025. As lovely creators are always adding new works, it is almost certainly out of date. The bars are color coded by character type: blue for main, yellow for love interests, green for family, purple for other first responders. What does this chart tell us? Good question. A reasonable person might conjecture that characters who appear on the show more often are written about more often, and so by controlling for that, we might see some interesting trends. Waaaay too many confounding variables to draw any kind of rigorous conclusions, but it's interesting nonetheless. I do feel comfortable in saying our dispatch friends need more love <3. Methodology: This divides # of works listed in that character's AO3 tag, by the # of episodes that character has appeared in per IMDb. So a character that appears in two episodes, and has 200 works, would have a WPE of 100. WPE is rounded to the nearest whole number. There's always some subjectivity on who to include, but I tried to give a balance between love interests, family members, and first responders, along with anyone who is or was a main (which does include Albert! I remember season 4). Family members tended to be close together, hence why you don't see Ramon or Margaret - they're so close to their spouse it just felt redundant. I fought the html gods to insert this as a table and not just an image, but they won. Many apologies. % of works is the number of works the character is tagged in divided by the total number of works in the 9-1-1 fandom tag.

Automattically scammy

From what I've been able to piece together, here's the story:

Wordpress.org is a nonprofit that owns the license for Wordpress. It's cofounded by Mutt Mulletwig.

Automattic is a FOR profit org that has been granted exclusive power to sublicense Wordpress. It's owned by Mutt.

Automattic is trying to extort a rival company, WP Engine, by claiming a breach of trademark/licensing, "brand confusion" and other things that don't really stick.

Automattic wants WPE to pay them, the for-profit company called Automattic, millions of dollars.

When WPE failed to give in to extortion demands, they were blocked from the wordpress.org site and presumably will be continued to be blocked unless/until WPE pays up. To Automattic. The for-profit company.

Understanding that a lot of innocent people were being affected by this blockage, rival company Pressable magnanimously stepped forward, offering to help folks switch over to their hosting instead (for a price).

Pressable is owned by Mutt Mulletwig.

I feel sorry for the team of lawyers on tap for this because ye gods, what a nightmare. Oh! Bonus bullet points!

It isn't just Mutt involved in this. Automattic CFO Mark Davies also joined in on the threats against WPE.

The "Five for the Future" shtick Wordpress (or maybe Automattic) is touting is about companies contributing 5% back in time/money, but since they're demanding 8% from WPE that number seems flexible/misleading.

Concerns have been raised regarding exactly how many hours have been contributed as the math isn't panning out.

Questions have also been raised about Wordpress as an actual organization, since it hasn't had board meetings in over 8 years.

Shirt's forked, man. Cook up some more popcorn. Especially if WPE decides to file actual charges. Once an investigation starts... hoo boy.

For context, famously well-adjusted non-harassment non-hypocrite and tumblr owner Matt is being sued for a whole litany of things (I'll let their lawsuit explain it in full). in summary:

wordpress (the technology) is open source and nonprofit and used by 40% of websites,

matty boy owns automattic which owns tumblr and wordpress.com (a wordpress host)

the trademark for WordPress was falsely "transferred" to the nonprofit foundation wordpress.org – by the way, matt explicitly says "WordPress.org just belongs to me" – and in fact sneakily and tax fraudily licensed it back exclusively anyway. the foundation is a very very thin front.

for context, WP Engine are another wordpress host; they're contributed to wordpress for a while now,

automattic has decided after some twenty years to extort WPE for a trademark (that they don't own), explicitly described by matt as "a scorched earth nuclear approach". guess why? they wanted profit

in addition to a boatload of libel (corporate beef, eh) the guy has explicitly cut off access so now fucking tens of millions of sites for a kajillion different things can't update their plugins or issue support tickets. conveniently, automattic has found a security flaw in a wpe plugin. wanna update it to protect your site? uhhhh…

but it's ok! wordpress.com (and a different company matt owns) explicitly offers a way to buy out the contract. see isn't that easy?

8% of Automattic have resigned, most of them from the open-source ecosystem team (gee wonder why)
