Want to install best ubuntu apps on your computer? We have a roundup of top ubuntu apps for linux lovers and ubnutu geeks. We have also included top games for ubuntu. Ubuntu is rapidly growing in popularity. This low cost practical alternative to Windows has been gaining traction over the last year amongst the masses and it’s no surprise that any good iPhone app development company watches the developments with interest, especially when it comes to the type of apps developed and their popularity. Many people who have switched to Ubuntu have sworn to never look back as the choice and range of applications is quickly growing and there’s really not much you can’t do on Ubuntu. If you have already switched to Ubuntu or are planning to jump on the Ubuntu wagon then the next step is choosing the apps to enhance your Ubuntu experience to the fullest. Top Ubuntu Apps There are literally thousands of great apps for Ubuntu, and same as Windows, not all of them are great. There is also the user preference to take into consideration, a useful or entertaining app to some may be pointless and boring to another, here are 15 of the apps we currently rate on Ubuntu, so happy app hunting! Nitro We’re going to start with Nitro, based solely on the fact that many of us are suckers for a good racing game and Nitro definitely delivers on that front. Plex Plex has proven to be useful as your own personal secretary when it comes to personal media; For those of use that have zero organizational skills, any app that can easily organize personal media is a welcomed tool. Firefox This just seems like a no brainer to me, as I’ve always been a fan of Firefox. Google Chrome Google Chrome on the other hand is a great choice for those of you who do not share the Firefox love, but it’s a close race. Avidemux (GTK+) Avidemux is a super fun free app for people who love to edit and make videos that are still on a novice level. Impressing your friends has never been easier. VLC Media Player Many of use use their computer to listen to music and watch movies/television shows more than their TV and radio, in fact some users honestly can’t remember the last time they even turned my radio on. This is probably at least partially because they can use the VLC app to listen to their music or stream their favourite shows from various network servers. Easy to use and never fails to please. Mini Tube If you’re a confirmed Youtube addict then the Mini Tube app is a definite must have. Just like YouTube you can share subscribe and view videos from your desktop. Wunderlist Currently used by millions this cloud-sync task manager allows you to share to do list with friends and colleagues, idea for small business owners. GIMP This may be one of our favourites of the top 5. Before GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) many were loyal Adobe Photoshop users. Now people are switching in droves, as whilst Adobe is great many find GIMP to have a more user friendly GUI (Graphical User Interface) as well as just a more advanced feel over all. Top Game Apps On Ubuntu For Gamers, the game apps on Ubuntu will prove to be more than satisfying. Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances for example is one of the most popular game apps on the market right now, and for good reason, the thrill of role play games is something that many people find addictive and you’d be hard-pressed to find a more fun thing to get addicted to, but there are plenty less known games that deserve a look such as those listed below that you should take a look at too. Xonotic It’s fast, it’s free and you get to shoot things. Xonotic is one of those games you can’t help but love. With great movement and slick intuitive design, this is a games that will have you hooked for sure. Savage 2 If you love fantasy and sci-fi, this game is a must-have. A big improvement to the original game in terms of character models and animation, you’ll find that reviews comparing it to “Rune” don’t really do it justice. Puzzle Moppet One of those
great puzzle games that combines a cute character you have to save with a vast array of 3D block puzzles that will drive you round the bed, Puzzle Moppet is a much adored game, with great graphics and a level of difficulty that starts easy but will fry your brain by the end! Heroes Of Newerth If multiplayer online battle games are your thing, then we’d be very surprised if you’ve missed this one. With real time events and significantly better graphics than the original release, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this world is infinitely better than the real one. O.A.D Taking part in ancient warfare has never been so much fun. Pit yourself against your enemies and enjoy a continuous stream of new units, better graphics and more innovation. This is a game that can grow and grow. R.C Mini Racers For those frustrated race car drivers that long for a trip back to the RC cars of their childhood, this will be a great game to play. Progress through the game to earn coins and get better cars and learn tricks to impress your friends! Beep This cute 2D platform games sees you in charge of a tiny robot, whose only assistance comes from a jetpack, a gun and an anti gravity machine. Help your little robot pal negotiate 24 levels of driving, jumping, flying swimming fun. Ideal for those who love the retro 2D platformers. Bad Dragon If you want to get involved on the ground floor of what promises to be a game built for gamers, then get Bad Dragon downloaded now. Still in development, your download will allow you to participate in this 10 level tank style game and give feedback to developers. Even in it’s development state it’s highly addictive. ApocolypZe 0.5 Where would we be without games for the zombie apocalypse lovers? ApolcolypZe 0.5 is a must have for those who love a bit of undead action. Survive as long as you can against a horde of undead characters, and pick them off one by one to stay safe. Best download this one now, to take advantage of the free expansion packs when they’re released. Crossover Games This little gem of an app was made special for the gamer in all of us by allowing people on play Windows specific games on Ubuntu, and the best part, its free! So there you have it. 20 Must have apps for Ubuntu. If you’re thinking of switching, then downloading these apps will make sure you never look back! Okay so wow this is getting notes and asks and messages (thank you all! I’m glad you are curious and hopeful!) so I’ll share what I’ve learned.
I started with Wunderlist bc it was beautiful and simple and the phone app synched with the web app synched with the desktop app.
Microsoft bought Wunderlist and turned it into Microsoft To Do. They made it ugly and awkward and buggy.
I still use MS To Do. The phone app (mostly) synchs with the tablet app and web app and desktop app oh wait the desktop app is giving me login problems. I use it because it’s familiar. I don’t love it at all. But you don’t need to love it it just needs to work for you. I am in the process of migrating from MS ToDo to a rather complicated project management system. More on that later.
If I had to start over again I might use Notion. Or Zenkit. Both are a bit of overkill. But both worked well enough when I tried them.
ToDoIst was also nice. As was AnyList. As was Remember The Milk. At the time I tried them, their prices (more than free) were too high.
If you wish to avoid MS ToDo, here’s what I recommend your queue manager have:
Mobile app or highly usable fast mobile website. You need it with you as much as your phone is with you.
Ease of entry. This is job one. You need to be able to whip it open, jot down “frim the jib jab” and forget it. If there are login screens, Click To Add An Item Now Enter The Title Now Enter A Description Do You Want To Save YN Are You Sure then forget it. You won’t use it.
Ease of reading the whole list at once. See #2.
If you do any work at at a computer, you’ll want some kind of desktop access. Web app, desktop app. Synching needs to happen automagically and RELIABLY. If you feel you cannot trust your queue manager, you won’t use it.
Blindingly easy manual sorting. Drag and drop please. No “click to move up one.” Just be able to grab an item and move it up, down, between.
Automatic Sorting as an option. Ideally saved as a preference. Sort completed at the bottom, new at the top, or whatever works for you. I personally ADD at the bottom, and when I “star” an item it moves to the top.
Minimal metadata per item. A Note is good. Subtasks are iffy. They can be nice to help you make a checklist and to break down a large thing into smaller things. But they also just add complexity and then you’re managing your queue manager, and it’s not managing your queue. Worse, the subtasks are buried under another layer — you can’t see them at a glance when you look ar your queue.
Nice to have: Multiple lists, with blindingly easy moving of an item from one list to another.
How I use my queue manager:
Multiple lists: I have 3: “Now, Next, Someday.” I use Now for “right now, hopefully today but we’ll see.” I use Next for “at the top of my mind, maybe this week” and Someday for “yeah that’s a dream, I sure hope I get to it someday.” When a timer goes off on Fridays I peek thru all of them and try to make them match reality.
Limits on “now.” I try to keep the Now list less than 8 items and the Next list to less than 20. If that means moving some items to Next because they’re not gonna get done today, or moving some away from Next into Someday then that’s what I do. There’s nothing demotivating like a queue that you “should do” that keeps growing and growing. Thats what the Someday list is for. Keep your “now” small….. if it runs empty you can always pull some in from the “next” list!
Add at bottom, star to top, move around otherwise. I default new items to go to the bottom of the queue. That means I’m more likely to actually work it as a queue. If something comes in that truly needs to jump to the top, I have MS Todo set so that when I press the “star” on the right of the item, it just jumps to the top.
Timers. I have three each day (morning noon evening) to remind me to check the queue. I have one on Fridays to remind me to do some Queue Gardening. That’s when I’ll move things between the different lists, look at how many I got done this week, and try to be honest with myself about what I really think I can get done next week.
Compassionate Review. See the above on my Friday timer. When you look back WITHOUT JUDGMENT at what you got done and adjust your plans for the next day/week accordingly, you actually get better at estimating what’s realistic.
Allow your methods to evolve. When I started doing this I had items on my queue like “med 1,” “med 2,” “med 3,” “shower,” “breakfast,” “email 15m max.” Over time, making and checking off those things has collapsed the morning into a single “start the day” item with a checklist in the item notes. I’m currently experimenting with a whole separate list for new “big” items, which I ignore until Fridays when I then assign them to one of my “now, next, someday” lists. We’ll see how it works out.
Keep. It. Simple. Many softwares will add features they claim will help you be more productive. Due dates. Reminders. Sharing. Approvals (!) Integration with email, twitter, your water faucet. Sub-lists and sub-sub-lists and sub-sub-sub-lists. No. You just want to manage the queue. You just want to be able to quickly look at the queue and have an answer to “what’s next” or “Ive just watched 2 hours of TOTK videos what was I supposed to be working on again?”
Hope this helps some o’ y’all. Peace.
Listen, if you interrupt me with a new task while I’m midway through another, you aren’t allowed to be mad when I switch to the new task immediately. You clearly thought the new task was important enough to interrupt me with it!
I am just a little pikmin! You’re the one with the whistle!!

Apps that will Help Your Productivity

It is true that the smart phone today might as well be an extension of one of our limbs. Starting from emails, to food delivery, travel and shopping – and just about anything one may be able to imagine, is achievable on a smart phone. While it is indispensable, it is also the primary aggregator of distractions. No matter how busy we are, or how urgent the task at hand is, we still look up from work to check our phones every now and then.
In this post, we actually look at turning this object which is the source of most distractions, into an object which helps you stay focused. How? By recommending the best apps that will help you stay productive.
Productivity is now just an app download away!
FreedomAt times even if we may prefer to stay away from our phones, our phones don’t seem to get that. With their incessant buzzing with constant notifications for emails, tags, shares, messages and the whole universe of social media vying for our attention – we just can’t seem to cut off. Putting your phone on silent may not be an option because you can’t miss calls. Freedom allows you to choose specific sites or apps you don’t want to receive notifications from, and allows you to set a timer for the same. Sounds like freedom to work? We agree!
WunderlistAn especially amazing platform for teams which work from home, Wunderlist is the best to-do list app that there is! You can set tasks for yourself and the app lets you measure your progress. Apart from that, you can also assign tasks to individuals, and collaborate seamlessly with your team on this platform. The app makes visible each persons progress on the assigned tasks, and the results are out there for all to see and keep track of. Not just your regular to-do list, for sure!
DoodleWorking with a large number of clients, or even within a team can sometimes be tough in terms of being able to find common slots for meetings. As a result, who ever the manager is, ends up wasting a lot of time going back and forth and checking with everyone for possible dates – making all the permutations and combinations and finally coming up with a date that works for all. What if there was an app which did this for you? And you end saving all that time. Sounds too good to be true? Well it is true! With Doodle, all you need to do is send the suggestive dates to all concerned, via the app, email or imessage. The participants for the meeting will then vote for the dates that work for them, and Doodle then freezes the date that works best and suggests it as the date for the meeting.
focus@willDo you have playlists based on moods, or dependent on the time of the day? For example, a work playlist, a drive playlist, and so on? focus@will, true to its name, is a music app that helps you focus on your work. It goes by the description, ‘neuroscience based music subscription service that helps you increase your attention span by up to 400%’, and indeed describes itself quite accurately. All you need to do is choose how you feel, and what you need, from the options the app offers you, and it will curate a playlist to help you stay focused. Sounds like magic?
CalmThis beautifully crafted app is your mindfulness fix for everyday. Loaded with guided meditations, the app helps you get back to the now, stay focused and carry on. With series like breaking habits, working on anxiety, 7 days of productivity, 7 days of focus and so on, the app gives you a true sense of the positive effects mindfulness has on our lives. No time to meditate? You can meditate even when you are commuting and using this app will show you how, with their guided meditations ranging from as little as 2 minutes, to as much as 60 minutes. While not all the options are offered free of cost, you will still have access to quite a few of them. Wondering if you should pay and get access to all? All we can say is you won’t be disappointed!
Productivity never seemed easier! Got any recommendations from your end? Let us know!
