I think the real reason why I love tgcf is because Xie Lian really did go wrong.

Horrible things happened to him, but he messed up as well. His good intentions led to so many deaths. His parents ended their lives because of him. His only two friends left him, one after the other.

But he did manage to save one person. And that was enough.

Despite how fucked up things were, he still gets to live a happy ending where everything is alright. He gets to be at peace and he gets to heal.
