Started this on June 11 2022, five minutes before midnight, inspired by Little Mix's "Salute" and its message of girl power of all creeds ("Get your killer heels, sneakers, pumps, or lace up your boots") Worked, and worked, abandoned, and now... March 5th, 2024 I have finished it. I feel accomplished, finally free and excited to share.

My biggest ambition was to have two versions: one of my Diane, my personal ideation of the Commander. Representing the strategic brains and power behind the entire resistance, my idea of the "killer heels" of the dynamic since I hc her to have many pairs. The other version was to be the female Avatar to present a placeholder for any one person's female Commander during the final battle (and to me, it's still Diane and calling back her roots as a Marine in her youth, a nod to "she's still got it.")

Everyone should be able to recognize Lily and her engineering genius, and of any front line soldier (my favorites here shown are Thérèse and Jane Kelly.)

It's been a while.

Imagining some post-meeting the Templars and Geist gets her psionics in a more stable state which helps her health. Finally picking up some weight and looking less like a zombie stick.

Out of my like. 40 XCOM 2 AUs/verses, only 10 don't have an associated fic. Out of those 30 fics, I have 3 totally done and 8 are actual WIPs while the rest either just have scraps of writing that'll get redone or nothing at all yet.

Stuff in bulk since Twitter keeps going to shit. As a sidenote, i keep getting notifications daily of bots with empty profiles following me which is getting incredibly grating. Still remember when Tumblr had it's massive exodus because they wanted to rid the place of bots and oh hey would you look at that... Egh.

Anywho, recent commissions so far of this year. Commander, you can’t just ask if the snakes have boobs! But we all thought it the first time around, right? Or just me?

This dude really looked for her for 20 years. Strategic genius? The aliens will destroy the world to find her? Is this the same Commander we are talking about? I do like to think she can be pretty forward and blunt, type A personality, but take away the red tape for a lack of filter. She just has the guts to say it out loud haha

The strategy and retro genres go together like peanut butter and jelly. . Some built the foundation of popular strategy games today, and others were born into genres that would eventually struggle, needing the community to help keep them alive. But even if they’re part of a familiar genre or not, most of these games can scratch a unique itch with ideas and themes that have aged extremely well. Many of these games would be difficult to sell in today's market, and because of the developers willing to dive into an industry that was still young and growing, there are some designs that can never be recreated. Some of these games influenced gaming, and others are just good damn games.

New XCOM headcanon: the "commander" is a very generic looking person, who's sex and age are not readily identifiable at a glance. This is only made worse by the fact that outside of the command deck, they wear either blocky, unisex dress uniforms or loose casual clothes and keep their hair in a long, untended mess. They don't talk about anything but work, and (supposedly) don't have a life outside of work. All of this is done by both the human, and the nascent Ethereal that is bonded to them a la XCOM: The Bureau from being readily identified. Only Bradford, Shen, Vahlen, and a a few other notable staff get to see the commander as they really are, and have been told to "keep it to themselves."
