An inside joke for myself.

Some brief lore:

I did say Diane Whittaker was based off my childhood Sonic OC (Maria), who went through so many dramatic rewrites since her inception in 2004 (I was 9 and loved SA2). In playing XCOM (2012) for the first few times, I created my idea of who the Commander was. As a woman, the Commander should be a woman, too. Stepping in this role, I noticed her personality taking after Maria (both military girlies, obvs). Thus her physical appearance was inspired by an adult Maria Robotnik, her uniform based off my OC's uniform at the time.

I couldn't invent someone new for Fallout 4, so I stole Diane for it. An alternative universe where a Diane grew up to a happy, healthy young woman because she had no family heartbreak and trauma in her youth... to then find it in her adulthood instead as result of the Great War. Oops.

Shh, ignore my childhood Sonic phase and her love for Maria Robotnik, because this could go back even deeper...

Sorry if confusing, just keeping it a brief info dump to share my inner thoughts with the outside world.

I think if I were to update Maria again, she'd be a light yellow, but I wanted to keep her "lore accurate" lmao

Bradford because the damn man won't give him any peace because that darn Avatar project tracker increased again and he needs someone to look over some reports for the 15th time. Someone's just asking to get their nose broken again.

Kidding! Man, I have to think for this one. I don't think Thaddeus would have had too many issues with the canon XCOM 1 & 2 staff. I would have to think of my OCs he would clash with since I know there would probably be a few. Will just say if you're an alcoholic and not getting that treated, are a sexist, and some other things, he will dislike you strongly even if you're putting in the work for the Resistance.

Overall, he's on good terms to friendly with my other Commanders.

Of course, there would be several soldiers that were pains in the neck he could barely stand, but for most, nothing they did reached the point of him discharging them.

I know any of the Council members that were just highly unreasonable in the beginning and got worse as the war continued he come to despise.

Hm, back in XCOM 1, I can see him having a lower tolerance for some of Geist's psionic shenanigans(testing and other things) and (somewhat) change in personality which also made him get highly annoyed with Vahlen and the Psionics division for some time as they feed off of each other despite the good results. He's trying to run a military operation not a clown house. That lower tolerance for Geist may continue once he recalls him when they meet again.

Hm, just thinking about it, Asaru would be on his shit list for a little bit once he learns who and why he lost his pilot wings. Part of him understands and knows Asaru didn't mean too much harm from it, but the man will forever be miffed and will ignore him from time to time because of that besides also questioning if that alien was controlling him the whole time back then (though deep within himself he knows Asaru didn't.)

Oh heck, thinking about it, this would be more or so his Chosen version, but Maker would be on the barely stand. But it's very complicated since his current state of being and having that constant devil on his shoulder has him highly volatile around any Elder, including Maker though the two are working together to undermine things. His brain just keeps ticking to the "shut up before I strangle/drain you" whenever Maker is getting philosophical or talking about the hypocrisy of his brethren.

I won't really continue on with his Chosen self since for his story he doesn't get the "proper" conversion like Jynn(and maybe the other two) as he will be a double-agent since his "conversion." But him and Hunter are besties.

On the opic of OCs

As a player of XCom Enemy Within, Xcom 2, and Xcom Chimera Squad, i have my commander is technically an oc

My fan cannon is that after the defeat of XCOM with the ending of XCOM Enemy within, the commander was sufficiently injured, so in a last ditch effort Central, Dr valhien, and Shen put the commander into a MEC to stabilize them.

The aliens caught the Commander, and put him into statis during the 20 year gap between Xcom Enemy within and Xcom 2, analyzing the tech to create the Advent MEC

During Xcom 2 the commander is found, and once rescued, reintegrates with his MEC suit to lead the charge, using SPARK weaponry

During Xcom Chimera Squad the Commander leads Chimera Squad, not choosing to go on missions due to his programmed combot doctrines.

Peak Gaming - XCOM 2 x Mass Effect

Last year, I tried making an XCOM 2 screenshot Let's Play similar in nature to Guavamoment's old X-COM: UFO Defense Let's Play, but abandoned it quickly due to the difficulty involved, as well as the strain it put on my computer.

Nonetheless, I did manage to make a "Commandersona". Because of the way everyone in the game hypes up the importance of The Commander, I thought it would be cute and funny to make him an unassuming older guy. Plus it made it more fun to ship him with the haggard middle-aged XCOM 2 version of Bradford.

Maybe I'll try it again someday.

I also made some concept sketches for my Commander!

2015 Soy is the Commander in her purest human form - down to earth (badum-tss), focused on her work. Only 30 years old, never expecting the things that will happen all too soon.

When they found her in 2035, Soy was a sorry sight - several "unnecessary" organs missing, malnourished, weak... And eerily resembling a human version of an Etherial, albeit not as tall. Should they trust her? Is there anything left from the Commander they knew before behind those terrified eyes? She wasn't so sure herself, to be honest.

(It was Bradford, bless his soul, who made it his sole mission to gaslight-gatekeep-girlboss everyone on the Avenger and then himself, shutting down any attempt to speculate, if the Commander is too far gone and can become a threat. Not her. Not his Commander.)

It took some time for her to adjust, gain some muscle and fat back, and learn how to live with extra limbs. It took even more to deal with mental scars, but, eventually, even the most skeptical of the Resistance saw, that their Commander is a force they love seeing on their side. A great tactician, a powerful psionic, what not to love? Extra arms are a fun quirk, too, if you think about it. Now she can choke two damn Ethereals at the same time, just wait until she gets her hands on those suckers.

Started this on June 11 2022, five minutes before midnight, inspired by Little Mix's "Salute" and its message of girl power of all creeds ("Get your killer heels, sneakers, pumps, or lace up your boots") Worked, and worked, abandoned, and now... March 5th, 2024 I have finished it. I feel accomplished, finally free and excited to share.

My biggest ambition was to have two versions: one of my Diane, my personal ideation of the Commander. Representing the strategic brains and power behind the entire resistance, my idea of the "killer heels" of the dynamic since I hc her to have many pairs. The other version was to be the female Avatar to present a placeholder for any one person's female Commander during the final battle (and to me, it's still Diane and calling back her roots as a Marine in her youth, a nod to "she's still got it.")

Everyone should be able to recognize Lily and her engineering genius, and of any front line soldier (my favorites here shown are Thérèse and Jane Kelly.)

Imagining some post-meeting the Templars and Geist gets her psionics in a more stable state which helps her health. Finally picking up some weight and looking less like a zombie stick.

My headcannon for the Commander is she became a M.E.C between Xcom enemy within and Xcom 2. Wields a sword and big ol shield, wears a knight helm

Machina Furem: a deranged Techpriest ascended himselves to godhood, fledgling machine god

Buffy belmont: a Techpriest who is from Lucius, and uses his shiny head to bounce his psyker powers. Has pysker powers of sunfire

Zipzap Stormscrapper: a rat that was genetically modified by the Cult of the Mechsiah Mechancius apon Bellator machina to be a Genestealer partitrach. Has lightning and rat based psyker powers

The Book bage: a Tzeench/Slanessh Bage who is an avid fanfic writer, their powers can manifest fic tropes

The Bonk bage: Tzeench/khorne: 9 hands 8 brass knuckles, wiry and fit, strives for self improvement of both the muscle and the mind, fights like star platinum by throwing alot of quick jabs

The bong bage: nurgle/Slanessh: 7 strands and 6 delivery options, essentially just the ultimate weed dealer

The bomb bage: Nurgle/Khorne, really autistic about nukes and bombs, grows a garden of landmines and bouquets of grenades

Out of my like. 40 XCOM 2 AUs/verses, only 10 don't have an associated fic. Out of those 30 fics, I have 3 totally done and 8 are actual WIPs while the rest either just have scraps of writing that'll get redone or nothing at all yet.
