I can’t tell what instrument Larxene has. I thought it was castanets and someone else suggested egg shakers but both are not traditional orchestra instruments so it’s really just weird

neat that both Xaldin and Lexaeus are playing the BIG percussion instruments, and both Axel and Saix are playing woodwinds (harp is a stringed instrument too so i make no comment on the strings)

There’s no [x]ylophone pun unfortunately because those huge tubes indicate that’s actually a marimba both Xion and Roxas are playing. There is however a pun in the fact that it’s a KEYboard instrument. also they’re just adorable

actually I just remembered that instrument names aren’t common knowledge, here they are:

Xemnas is the conductor/orchestra director; Xigbar on saxophone, Luxord on trumpet, and Marluxia on trombone (that’s our brass); Axel on flute and Saix on.... it’s hard to see but I think that’s an oboe (woodwinds); Xaldin on timpani, Lexaeus on bass drum, Larxene on... something??, and Roxas & Xion on marimba (percussion); and then Vexen on harp, Zexion on violin, and Demyx on double bass (strings)

There are 3 main instrument sections (kinda) that are the “obnoxious know-it-all” instruments, stereotyped as generally having a superiority complex over the other sections because they’re soooo important look at meeee carrying the melody: the trumpet for band, the 1st violin for orchestra, and the soprano for voice (and the secret 4th, the flute for woodwinds). With that said, of course Zexion would play violin

And following both that and his Mystery Gear in 358/2 Days, it would have made more sense thematically for Xigbar to be playing the trumpet. however the saxophone is the funny meme instrument so it still works

There is NO WAY Demyx is a double bass player. It’s the only instrument besides percussion that you have to stand up for (though some orchestras do have the bassists sit on stools), and it’s much more work to actually PLAY than the other string instruments, by virtue of being much bigger. they tend to play less than most other stringed instruments, sure, but if you want to be sitting around not doing much you’re best off picking a different instrument entirely, especially since string sections tend to require more unanimity in playing than the brass/woodwinds/percussion since there’s more people playing each part

harps are rare to include in compositions. they’re very nice and melodious though. idk what this says about Vexen

generally there’s not enough percussion players to cover every single instrument which means that Larxene is definitely running around to cover all the small parts (whatever she’s holding, it’s definitely percussion)... actually with Xaldin Lexaeus Roxas and Xion in percussion as well she might not have to but she is the speedy one so

I hope what Saix is holding is an oboe and not a clarinet because if it’s an oboe we get some more symbolism, as well as some very nice... dynamic between his instrument and Zexion’s :)

you see, the oboe is the instrument that tunes the entire rest of the orchestra. whatever the oboe’s A sounds like will be the A the ensemble matches. one could say it’s the most important instrument

HOWEVER, the first chair of 1st violin is nominally the most important instrument- that’s the “concertmaster”, and they get to walk on-stage after everyone else (but before the conductor, obviously). they’re also important for real- based on the repertoire they’re basically guaranteed to have at least one solo. they sit at the very front, right next to the conductor. in my orchestra the concertmaster has a little biography in the program along with the conductor’s

there’s actually multiple rounds of tuning- the first couple it’s the oboe doing their thing and the other non-string instruments matching, and then the last round the concermaster matches the oboe, and then the string instruments match the concertmaster.

Xemnas is 100% a garbage conductor. To the audience he looks very cool, doing all his sweeping motions, but it’s impossible to follow as an orchestra member, so you’re really on your own because the conductor is not conducting properly and not giving helpful cues

im about to say things exclusively based on vibes that WILL be wrong but i am unstoppable.

Best cook: demyx (unironically. WILL avoid cooking at all costs).

Good cooks: marluxia (likes it). xigbar (years of experience but always does the bare minimum)

Pretty decent cooks: xaldin (stew connoisseur. they let him get some reading in), luxord (expert w scraps + leftover meals)

Only if they follow a written down recipe: axel (talented overseasoner. WILL ruin pans if left unattended). vexen (must be quick recipes OR ELSE). roxas (good with sauces, confuses herbs on the regular).

VERY good w/a certain type of food and that's it: Lexaeus (breakfast foods methinks), zexion (pastries and pastries only), xemnas (would bake once in a blue moon. terrible assistant).

not good overall but has a single recipe that everyone keeps asking them for: saix (will NOT let anyone else come in the kitchen while he cooks. unrelated to recipe secrecy.)

good assistant but doesn't really KNOW how to cook: xion (has recipes memorized, chopping ace.)

Multiple KH Characters and Their Favorite Video Games!

Destiny Island Trio: 

Sora: Fighting games- preferably Smash. He mains himself main characters (Mario, Link, Kirby, FE protags). He sucks. He is the guy who button mashes and corners players to beat the hell out of them. 

Riku: Fighting games- preferably Tekken or Street Fighter. Mains Jin or Lee. Attempts to be strategic but gets way too competitive fast and is busy mashing all the buttons off the controller. 

Kairi: Way too good at fighting games. But she’d probably play lots of Pokemon or monster collecting games. She has many setups that are both competitive or just fun ones for a fun challenge. 

Sea Salt Family: 

Roxas: Persona fanboy. He hasn’t played 1-2 but he can’t pick a favorite between 3-5. Plays all the spinoffs or has someone else play them for him. His favorite characters are the protagonists. Hears jazz music and assumes this is a Persona 5 reference. 

Xion: Resident DMC and Souls-like player. Girl is a monster on the controllers despite being just being born. The way she can effortlessly combo and dodge all attacks makes her a fearsome opponent. 

Axel: Mario Kart. Axel is pretty average at video games (unless they’re like, retro or arcade) but Mario Kart? He’s on it like Donkey Kong. He mains Funky Kong. 

Saix: He has two wolves inside him- the logical gamer and the second, more absurd gamer. Sometimes he wants to unwind, so he might pick up a basic platformer like Mario or Sonic, but on the other side- he’s a menace in a Warriors game. He’s hacking and slashing. He’s killing everyone in his path. Also, he’s a completionist.  He has to get the best markings and everything. Won’t settle for less. 

Wayfinder Trio: 

Terra: Minecraft and fighting games. He tries his best lmao. He’s just got pretty big hands so often he messes up with combos but he’s also pretty impatient and tends to spam certain moves.

Aqua: Rhythm games definitely. Watch her effortlessly get all perfect scores in one try. Even the hardest OSU! map has nothing on Aqua. She also kicks ass at fighting games. 

Ventus: He likes Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Mario Party. He always loses at almost any game against his friends though. 

Bonus Characters: 

Namine: I feel like she enjoys visual novels and Okami. She really loves aesthetic games and is a patient player. 

Xemnas: does not play video games beyond Candy Crush or Solitaire. You kids and your “Splatoons” or “Bayonettas”, go pick up an old Final Fantasy game smh. 

Xigbar: Call of Duty. Fortnite. PUBG. Overwatch. He’s a menace and plays all sorts of FPS games. His sniping abilities IRL translate very well into games. Also likes the Hitman games. 

Vexen: Bookworm and civilization manager games. He’s big on Age of Empires and is a top talent within the community. He loves playing as the Vikings or Mayans for competitive play. He’s also made many custom maps. 

Zexion: Tower Defense managers and Ace Attorney. He loves deducing the crime or finding the best way to defend his base with the minimum amount of units possible. 

Xaldin: He doesn’t play games (lie). He plays romantic visual novels. Plays all kinds of them. Otomes too. He is a lonely man. Also loves cooking games. 

Lexaeus: farming games. He just has a fun time playing Story of Seasons. Rune Factory is nice too but he prefers SoS because he loves the farming aspect more. 

Demyx: Guitar Hero. No argument. This man did all the crazy achievements and was going at it for days.

Luxord: Yeah yeah solitaire and gambling- have you considered he loves playing the Yakuza games? Well now you do. He loves the games dearly and cherishes them and likes to be the biggest Yakuza on the block. Also yeah, he plays lot of gacha games. 

Marluxia: Doesn’t really play video games, but he’d most likely play some horror games with Larxene or town management games. 

Larxene: Horror games or multiplayer games where she can troll people. Banned from multiple servers and people refuse to play with her minus Marluxia. Aesthetically though she loves Trish from DMC and thinks Vergil is number one.

xion doesn’t think of herself as a person. it’s not in the same way that xemnas thought about her, but it is still a kind of dehumanization. on some levels, it’s even good, at least for the short term — it keeps her from being super self - loathing the way she would be otherwise, for example.  but it also keeps her from viewing herself as good. think of an object.  a remote control for a tv.  you probably don’t actually think about the remote at all.  you might get mad if it’s not working, but you don’t really think about it, and you can’t hate it or love it or anything like that.  it doesn’t occupy space in your mind the way a person does or you, yourself probably do. that’s how xion think of herself.  she gets mad at herself or even hates herself, but those feelings are based on her actions, not her self, because on some level she doesn’t think of herself as having a self.  so she can’t be weighed down with self - loathing or hatred because you hate people, not things.  (  she hates xemnas.  and that means she views him as more of a person than herself.  )  in the same vein, she doesn’t like herself, because she…can’t.  it doesn’t occur to her.  she doesn’t think about herself enough of have an opinion on her as a person. this gets wrapped up in her body, too; she doesn’t think she’s pretty and she doesn’t think she’s ugly, because she doesn’t think about her body in those terms.  sometimes she forgets she has a body, which is disconcerting, and can make her frustrated with it. sometimes she gets scared she'll look at it and see ball - joints, or sora's body, and she doesn't like that.  but even then, it’s a result of an ‘object’ not working — like being angry at a remote — not at a person or a body.

There are a few chances that Seto does regret passing on. He definitely regrets on a lot of things he does take on, but one of the things that he didn't take was being a bit more helpful to Yugi and his friends. Yes, Seto quickly gets annoyed with all of them, but he truly never became friends with any of them, even Yugi. Seto isn't a guy who needs a lot of friends, but he does get pretty lonely, and in the end he really does not feel close enough with anybody to call them a friend. He spent most of his time obsessed with beating Yami // Atem instead of taking the time to know Yugi and the others. His only friend is Mokuba and even that he has strained--he knows Mokuba loves him but they are brothers.

Xemnas well. . . he doesn't feel regret. He is a being that takes what he wants and does not look back. Every chance that could have benefited him, Xem took. It's not quite something of regretting not having taken, but more what he did take ( only really applying in Hearted verse, since well, he cannot feel regret even if he tried as a Nobody ).

Oh ho ho Raihan regrets a lot of chances he passed up on. He was offered the chance to travel to another region which he passed up for running the Hammerlocke Gym. The main things are passing up chances of getting out of Galar and exploring, broadening his horizons. He is not exactly the best at making friends either, which is another thing he passed on. The ones that were considered his friends either turned to an enemy or just it's kinda awkward between them. A lot of things were put on hold or passed because of his position, because he is so stubborn and wants to be the best.

Thinking about how tragic Axel is

Axel has got to be one of my favorites if not my favorite in kingdom hearts (surprise surprise I stole his name) and out of what I’ve seen people talk about how tragic Saïx and Roxas are and mention Axel when they do that but I feel like Axel doesn’t really get talked about individually typically only side by side with Saïx and Roxas

(Side note. Xion should also be talked about more but this post is about Axel rn and I will potentially talk about Xion in a later post)

Axel lost everything important in his life and the worst part is that for the most part that only happened cause he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. There’s nothing specific about Axel himself that requires him to be in the organization he was simply in proximity to Apprentice Xehanort at the time of the organization’s creation.

Starting with the first things he lost, his heart, his home world, and Isa, this doesn’t get talked about enough either these two lost their home. And they were only teenagers which is at a crucial point in development and loosing their hearts I like to headcanon essentially stopped this. (Again a post for a later time which will include Ienzo). Axel lost all of those crucial growing up years which will definitely affect him down the line and it kind of does. He also lost Isa. Maybe Saïx didn’t jump right on into the organization with clipboard in hand, but from what we can gather he was already trying to get in with Xehanort as he could’ve been their link to X, so I imagine Saïx would close himself off from Axel pretty quickly to prove himself to Xemnas. Leaving Axel alone. As opposed to members 2-6 (who were already close and who continue to be close as we can see in the 358manga and Lexeaus clearly cares about Zexion in CoM) who all still had each other in some sort of way, Axel didn’t have anyone because his only line of support in the organization would have been Saïx, but Saïx turned him away in favor of Xemnas (I know Saïx was doing this for him and Axel and did secretly care, but this is from Axel’s perspective and from his point of view Saïx is just cutting him off)

So for 10+ years not only has Axel lost his heart and his world, and his only line of support and I don’t think without hearts it’s very easy to bond with the others

Any of the others, not just the apprentices. We don’t get any indication Axel is close to anyone up until he meets Roxas and Xion. There’s nothing in any of the games indicating he has, nothing I’ve seen in the mangas (he does hang out in groups, but not often and never one on one with anyone other than Saïx, Roxas, or Xion) and I don’t have any of the other books.

“Why does he bond with Roxas and Xion then and not the others?” Thank you me for asking, the answer for Roxas is because of Ventus, and Xion is because he didn’t get much of a choice.

The following paragraph is mostly speculation/headcanon, but I feel like makes sense.

Axel who just lost everything from his old life including his best friend is now presented with this kid who looks exactly like someone he knew when he still had a heart. New name and outfit but this is the closest he’s gotten to having anything from his old life. And on top of that he was also ordered to watch over Roxas so he was kinda just pushed into spending time with him and when Roxas starts showing more emotion of course Axel is going to be invested. And Axel was incredibly hesitant to be friends with Xion but because of Roxas he did and he started to bond with her as well.

Things finally start looking up and then of course he looses everything again. And this time he looses one the things that he was put such a strong importance on. His memories. Not only did he loose Xion but he lost the memories of her. He tells Saïx he wants everyone he meets to remember him and he is constantly telling people to memorize things, and memories are incredibly important in this universe and Axel understands that. He’s also started to develop a heart again it seems when we see how desperate he was for Roxas not to fight against Xemnas. He will miss Roxas when no one else will.

Twice has Axel lost everything.

Throughout Kingdom Hearts 2 we see him trying to fix things in multiple different failed ways, tries going and getting Roxas and bringing him back, kidnaps Kairi, and then helps Sora in the end before falling to the Heartless, and it’s so sad especially because at this point Axel still believes Saïx doesn’t care about him despite Saïx showing (tiny) concern about Axel to Sora. Axel is just struggling to stay afloat at this point until he finally gives out at the end just to make sure Sora can stop Xemnas.

And then he wakes up to find out Xemnas hasn’t been stopped. Lea is alive again with his heart and emotions back, but he still has no one. Isa is still gone and not with the rest of them, and Roxas and Xion are still trapped in Sora’s heart. So deciding to try and do the right thing in hopes of getting Roxas out of Sora’s heart he becomes a keyblade wielder which causes him to come face to face with all of his mistakes. He has to face Kairi now being able to feel guilt. And it’s clear Lea is beating himself up over it. He’s on the right track but he’s still not doing good. Ie. breaks into tears over not remembering who Xion is and missing someone he doesn’t know. (Man that scene 😭)

Then he has to fight Saïx and Xion. He has to fight his best friend and the ending of that fight. Ahhh. Axel has to hold Saïx in his arms dying and even if he knows Isa will come back it’s still sad.

And finally we get to the end(ish) of his arc and he’s doing alright now with heart and friends back, but he’s still carrying the weight of so much and please I am fragile about this man.

I will go feral about the character who’s name I chose for so long and you cannot stop me anyway yeah he’s so traumatized and I need people to talk about that more because I feel like people focus on Saïx’s tragedy than Axel’s even though they’ve both lost so much

Nort Brothers Reacting to You Getting a Keyblade

You and your boyfriend were just enjoying a gorgeous day in Radiant Garden. He had been working hard and needed a break. And what better way to do that than go for a walk around Radiant Garden. You were about to head into a cute café for a quick snack when a group of Heartless attacked. Your boyfriend quickly got you to safety while he took care of the Heartless. When he thought all of them were taken care of, another Heartless jumped and was about to attack him until you pushed him out of the way and a Keyblade appeared in your hand, shocking both you and your boyfriend.

Xemnas:

Xemnas is very confused. How did he not feel the Keyblade Legacy inside you?

He doesn't know how to use one since he never had one (NOMURA BRING HIM BACK AND GIVE HIM A KEYBLADE! NOW!)

But he'll help in any way he can.

Since you’re replaying Birth by Sleep, do you have any headcanons about Terra or Aqua?

Since I just finished Terra's story I feel like I'm probably best equipped to talk about him, though I know that Ven and Aqua's stories have more Terra flashback scenes I need to see. And I will think more on Aqua when I get to her route. But, anyway:

Based on his living situation, ambitions, and dialog, I headcanon that he lost his original family and blames himself for whatever happened to them. Maybe he was in a position to save them but wasn't strong enough to accomplish it. This is why his dream to be a Keyblade Master is so deeply tied into wanting to protect his new family and friends. And why he's so obsessed with strength and physical power. But of course over time his initial motivation develops into a general fear of failure/losing, where even losing in a simple competition with low stakes makes him get anxious and scared, creating darkness in his heart.

Post-KH3, Terra learns that Stitch helped Sora during the events of KH2 as a summon, and he's glad to know that Stitch has managed to make friends after all.

You know how in Days Xion spends her vacation day just training with the Keyblade? Terra is exactly the same. Post-KH3 Terra and Xion have training days together. Roxas and Ven don't understand why they'd waste a day off doing that. But, y'know, Xion and Terra do share anxiety about their ability with the Keyblade, so they always want to be in top form.

I mentioned this before, but I like to think that Xemnas' line in Days about not letting the human heart have power over them (the Organization) ever again is a sentiment born from Xemnas' Terra side. Terra's heart was overpowered by Xehanort and his body was stolen, and his struggles to take it back only caused him amnesia, not true freedom.
