Thursday

Howdy do. It's Thursday here in Dullsville and I've decided to go full steam ahead with fall decor. Why not? Just gonna' do what makes me happy and maybe Mother Nature will see it and usher in some true autumn weather. We've had some really pleasant days lately, it was actually FIFTY degrees on Tuesday morning! I think our high today is 76 which is just fine with me. A little rain wouldn't hurt, but I feel like that's asking too much. I'll just be content that the brutal summer heat seems to have moved on. So....FALL! Remember the candlesticks I was going to paint and distress? I'm building a centerpiece around them, not sure where it's headed yet but I like the before and after.

That's the dollar store pumpkin I covered with napkins, and the little $1 pumpkin stack got some fresh paint. Easy and cheap! Tonight I'm headed to The Foundry for a mosaic class. I've taken these mosaic classes a couple of times before, it's pretty straight forward - you're basically just paying to use the supplies. She always has boxes of tile, glass, china, and of course the nippers to cut it all. The instructor is super sweet, so it'll be fun to create and chat. Tonight's class will make a 14x5 house number or welcome sign. This is the example given.

I plan to make a house number with a Halloween vibe. Our house number is 504, so I can make the 5 and 4 with black tiles and make the 0 an orange pumpkin. We'll see if that works. I've never been able to get to the grouting stage in class. I always have a big plan and not enough time. I'm keeping it simple for this project, so maybe tonight is the night I finish!

Tomorrow I'm scheduled for a COVID shot at 10am. I also have a 1pm plant pick up at the arboretum. Every spring and fall they have a big native plant sale and I always buy a couple of things to support them. This fall I'm just getting some rudbeckia (Black-eyed Susan) and some blue mistflower.

It's supposed to attract bees and butterflies, crossing my fingers but not counting on it. In a quest to lure more wildlife to our yard we added yet another bird feeder. This one clamps onto the railing of the back porch and allows us to watch the birdies from the sofa. The cats are loving it too. It's been nice enough to have windows and doors open lately, so Phoebe is on duty.

Of course, the squirrels found it right away. They never miss a snack. I zoomed in with my phone to snap that from the living room.

I think a birdfeeder is better than tv. The sounds are certainly more enjoyable. The new feeder is covered in finches every day now and with the windows open it's lovely to hear their chatter. They sound like they're terrible gossips. A Caroline Wren entertained us yesterday afternoon, they have such pretty songs. Yep, that's who I am now, a crazy cat lady who looks forward to meeting new birds. I own it. I've been reading about people who develop relationships with crows, trading trinkets and stuff like that, and I've never wanted anything more in my life. When I drive between Denton and Easton (which I have to do for just about anything) and I see a crow near a corn field I want to roll down my window and scream, "Come to my house, I'll give you stuff!" Crows remember faces (so do hummingbirds!) so maybe one will land in the backyard soon and recognize me from the road. This is all normal to think about, right? Alright, time for me to go beat my hair into submission, then throw something together for Mickey to eat while I go glue mosaic tiles to a board in hopes of having a little fun. The class is 5:30 to 7:30 and I'm usually the only person who stays to help clean up, so I may be out until 8 o'clock!

holly herrera-fire is 17, loves her brothers more than anything, she is daddy's daughter and has some sort of mommy issues since she's never felt close with squirrel who was like an 'absent' mother and had more interest in partying, drinking wine and shocking the society with her outfits or a new boobjob. squirrel herrera-fire was 'absent' for first 5-10 years of holly, jay & lion's lives and then she remembered she has kids and tried to play a 'good mommy' job but holly still doesn't feel like they're actual mother & daughter. more like friends because of the way squirrel behaves and tries to stay younger as she actually is (wearing revealing clothes, clubbing with your own kids and talking about their first sex) and that's some sort of friends holly wouldn't like to have. yeah a paragraph bout mommy issues. holly is also a granddaughter of the president firestar fire (lol sorry i don't have a fantasy) and first lady by husband and lady by blood sandy fire (im gonna write posts bout my headcanons and im gonna explain this one bout sandy's origin too), and her dad bramble herrera-fire is a vice-president and oh ofc the son-in-law for the mr. president. these facts make her cooler than anyone else in her private school. her & her brothers rule that damn school for sure. she feels her power over other students. holly is THAT bitch. let me say 'primadonna' by marina is her signature song for sure. holly wants to go to harvard law school and become a lawyer. this came to her in mind after her brother jay's arrest. she also wanted to become a doctor like her favorite aunt leaf but gave up after failing her chemistry classes and wanted to become a president too (guess i don't have to explain why). her bond with her grandpa is really strong she loves him so much. her favorite cousin is ivy jocelyn, however they're really different and may have some difficulties because of ivy's stealth and awkwardness (alexa play 'the girl so confusing version with lorde' by charli xcx). her style is inspired mainly by blair waldorf from gossip girl, cheryl blossom from riverdale and chanel's 90s couture collections. yeah that's a combo... not gonna lie she was almost a tomboy in her early teen ages because u know she has two brothers they live under the same roof and she was influenced by them too. although she completely changed her whole wardrobe & style after her brother jay was arrested for allegedly killing his cousin flame (that was a WILD story it was in the news for months everybody was shocked). she thought perfect hair & classy feminine outfits would've helped to make her family great again. good job holly and your tweed chanel suits in 100 different colors are cute but oh it didn't really help my dear inspired by my very own human!AU. im going to make some more posts about it. stay tuned! xoxo если вы знаете русский язык, вы можете прочитать фанфик, основанный на этой АУшке, на фикбуке, и подписаться на телеграм канал. там есть все мои хэдканоны на русском, информация о новых главах и всякое такое закулисье. ссылочки не стесняйтесь просить!

favourite time of the year?

Autumn is the winner because nothing beats the crisp air and the colour of the trees. I’ll also shout out the transition period into and out of summer, though -- end of Spring and beginning of Autumn. You can vibe outside and enjoy the essence of what Summer SHOULD be without becoming a puddle of sweat during the day, and you can bundle up in a cozy sweater and big socks in the evening and drink tea and read while it gets dark.

do you collect anything?

I collect art prints, which is pretty standard! I support a couple of folks on Patreon who send out monthly art postcards, and I keep all of those tucked away in a collectors portfolio (when they’re not up on walls). Also mugs... I am a mug fiend...

favourite fics?

I haven’t had time to read fic in a hot minute, but these are my tried and true favourites: 

LES MIS this is fact not fiction by Rianne Combeferre and Grantaire enter a bet. Even though it lasts only twelve days, the consequences are far greater than they could ever have expected. This fic made me fall back in love with Les Mis, and also definitely made me gayer than I was before. 

HAIKYUU but for me, there is a storm by Authoress Sometimes you have to make choices you don’t like, or will regret into countless sleepless nights, and sometimes you’re just following orders. But if the other option is certain death for your entire species, you will make those decisions. That’s what it means to be a pilot. …Or so Daichi and Sugawara keep telling themselves as they activate the two least compatible recruits for the much-needed third Jaeger assist. The kaiju are learning, evolving, and coming in faster than anyone is comfortable with, and the only option left is to evolve with them. Who knows? Maybe the rookies will be the ones to turn the tide of the war. This is my emotional support Haikyuu!!/Pacific Rim crossover, okay? I love it. I love it I love it I love it.
