Station Vu : À TOUS CEUX QUI NE ME LISENT PAS de Yan Giroux

On pouvait s’interroger sur la pertinence de tenter de transposer la poésie écrite au grand écran, mais ce portrait d’Yves Boisvert parvient admirablement à être plus cinématographique que littéraire. Yan Giroux, qui signe son premier long métrage, rend pratiquement chaque plan étonnant, inspirant, stimulant via ses compositions visuelles élaborées avec le directeur photo Ian Lagarde, incluant plusieurs amples mouvements d’appareil. Ce film sur les aléas de la vocation d’artiste dispose par ailleurs de l’arme de moins en moins secrète qu’est Martin Dubreuil, un de nos meilleurs acteurs, qui brille en artiste à la dérive, poussé par le vent, comme un chien errant, pauvre, mais bon vivant malgré tout.

Introduction:

Anxiety—true anxiety—is one such condition. It’s a double-edged sword: at times the self-criticism inherent with anxiety can encourage rigorous thinking. Anxiety simultaneously motivates us to become better and tells us that we’re not good enough. But that sort of detailed self-reflection can easily tip over into a state of perfectionism in which actually doing something can prove impossible. Like its frequent bedfellow depression, anxiety can strangle both a creative impulse and a person on a fundamental level.

Sometimes words are the only way to write what you feel, not what you mean. This book contains poems and lyrics that portray the author or the artist’s view on anxiety and anything that is provoked alongside anxiousness in their minds.

World Premiere at Québec Cinéma

I AM A ROSE will premiere at the 36th edition of Les Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma on February 22nd. This is David’s 9th selection at RVCQ.

About RVQC

The Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma is proud to announce its program for 2018. This 36th edition of the festival will thrill the city with more than 300 films, including 90 premieres, as well as more than 30 free events. From February 21 to March 3, the Rendez-vous, presented by Hydro-Québec, in collaboration with Radio-Canada, will be a prime gathering place for artists and movie lovers, and above all an opportunity to see the year’s very best films on the big screen. Spokesperson Patrick Huard joins the RVQC in inviting artists, industry professionals and the movie-going public to celebrate our movies in style!

Some Shorts

With 215 films, including 73 premieres, 54 films in competition and 24 programs in every genre presented by Unis TV, the RVQC is the world’s biggest showcase of Quebec’s short films. The premieres include La chute by Olivia Boudreau, Encore fiancés by Catherine Therrien, Garrincha by Jeanne Leblanc, L’innommable by Raphaël Bélanger, Marguerite by Marianne Farley, Reste, je ne veux pas être toute seule by Gabriel Savignac, Vétérane by Pier-Philippe Chevigny and La visite de Charles de Gaulle by Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette. A number of shorts that got people talking last year are also part of this impressive 2018 crop, including Auto Portrait by Louise Bourque, Ballet Jazz by Maxime Robin, Black Friday by Stephan Moukarzel, Crème de menthe by Jean-Marc E. Roy and Philippe David Gagné, Lost Paradise Lost by Yan Giroux and Tesla lumière mondiale by Matthew Rankin, to name just a few. The festival’s significant emphasis on shorts also provides a showcase for up-and-coming filmmakers: 34 student films including 8 premieres will be shown, presented by Unis TV. To showcase Quebec’s thriving short-film community, the Rendez-vous will once again host the eagerly anticipated annual celebration of our talented short-film artists, the Prends ça court! short-film gala. Julie Le Breton and Rémi-Pierre Paquin will host the 15th edition of the awards ceremony on February 27 at 7 p.m. at the Cinémathèque québécoise. Each year, the event organized by Prends ça court!, in collaboration with the RVQC, is an essential and lively gathering for our artists.

The Venue

The screening will be held at the Cinémathèque québécoise on February 22nd at 5:15PM at the Hydro Québec screening room. The Cinémathèque québécoise is truly Montreal’s museum of moving images. Its mission is to preserve and promote the world’s audiovisual heritage, with an emphasis on Quebec and Canadian works as well as international animation, and to make it available for cultural and educational purposes. The Cinémathèque québécoise is internationally recognized for its expertise in preserving and providing access to the audiovisual heritage from here and around the world.Through its almost 50 years of collecting and preserving films, videos, television programs and new media works, it has developed invaluable collections, which are primarily used in the Cinémathèque’s programming. These include over 40,000 films and videos from all over the world and all periods plus 30,000 television programs, as well as collections of various types, such as 28,000 posters, 600,000 photographs, 2,000 early film devices and equipment, 15,000 scripts and production archives, 45,000 books, 3,000 periodicals and thousands of files on diverse subjects, along with other artefacts, props and costumes that help illustrate the different subjects featured in the Cinémathèque’s public screening programs.

Gala Québec Cinéma 2019 : Les nominations

Adoptant une nouvelle formule cette année, où le vote du jury est pondéré 50/50 avec le vote des membres votants de l'industrie, le Gala Québec Cinéma se retrouve avec des nominations qui offrent un bel équilibre entre le cinéma populaire et d'auteur.

Ainsi, dans la catégorie Meilleur film, les 7 finalistes incluent les gros succès 1991 de Ricardo Trogi (aussi Meilleure réalisation et Meilleur scénario) et La Bolduc de François Bouvier d'une part, et les productions acclamées par la critique À tous ceux qui ne me lisent pas de Yan Giroux (aussi Meilleure réalisation et Meilleur scénario), Genèse de Philippe Lesage, La grande noirceur de Maxime Giroux (aussi Meilleure réalisation), Répertoire des villes disparues de Denis Côté (aussi Meilleure réalisation), et Une colonie de Geneviève Dulude-De Celles (aussi Meilleure réalisation et Meilleur scénario).
