RESIDENT EVIL → THE WESKER FAMILY

To the public, little is known of the families behind some of the world’s most renowned bioterrorists, but the question remains: did they play a role in causing their children to walk down the path that they did? Or are these individuals simply ambitious criminals with delusions of grandeur?

For Diana Wesker (née Afanasyeva), her introduction into the bioweapons black market trade was upon discovering her employers were using her research into limb regeneration with salamanders to further their experiments in creating enhanced soldiers, instead of developing human therapies with which she was recruited for. Although the prospect of using biological weapons in the military did not appeal to her, the concept remained fascinating for her own selfish endeavours. Born on the 27th of October, 1963 in Sydney, Australia to Russian immigrant parents, Diana had harsh expectations placed upon her at a young age, ones that no matter how hard she tried she could never live up to. Her mother, Tatyana, was an unfeeling woman, absent for long stretches of time with little regard to how it affected her daughters, much more concerned with her craft as an accomplished opera singer. Viktor was no better. A strict man whose role as father and ballet master blurred, he pushed his girls to one day follow in his footsteps. Whilst Sofia enjoyed ballet, and went on to become a professional ballet dancer, Diana’s heart was set on going into the field of biology. She wished to make a name for herself, separate from her family – to which she succeeded.

Diana was married to former U.S. Marine, Dave Monroe, for only a year until he was declared dead in 1992 after succumbing to injuries sustained in a horrific car accident. Foul play was ruled out while Diana played the role of the grief-stricken widow, but in reality, she had snapped after years of mistreatment at her husband’s hands, and opted for something she could pass off as an accident to be free of him. For years she believed he was dead – and he was, legally – but that proved to not be the case when he found his way back into her life again in 1999. Unbeknownst to her, she had been lied to by the police and coroner, who were paid off by her employers when they took Dave’s body for themselves and used him as one of their first test subjects in developing supersoldiers. Before he could ever hurt her again, Diana’s second husband, Albert Wesker, tracked the man down, captured him and tortured him, before allowing Diana to get her violent and bloody revenge.

The origins of Albert Wesker’s involvement in bioterrorism, alongside his twin sister, Alex, are much different than that of Diana’s. The two hail from London, Canada, but unfortunately, they hold no memories of their lives there, nor what happened to their biological parents when they were eight years old. Agents of Oswell E. Spencer, an aristocratic billionaire and eugenicist, took the twins from their home and executed their parents as per Spencer’s orders. Albert and Alex were then placed in a home funded by the Spencer Foundation where they were given new names and a privileged upbringing. They had access to the best education possible, free to pursue whichever field they decided, but it was by no accident they both went into virology and bioengineering; at home, their adoptive parents – agents whom they believed to be their real parents – instilled them with the beliefs of Oswell E. Spencer, harbouring disdain for war and pestilence, and believing humans to be an evolutionary dead-end in need of a rebirth. They were only two of the hundreds of children “adopted” as part of what is known as Project W, a plan intended to develop an advanced race of human beings. The most promising candidates were headhunted by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals, the twins amongst them, where they went on to create bioweapons for the company founded by none other than the man who had handpicked them for his plan. The final stage of this was to infect the thirteen Spencer saw fit, however, only two survived; Albert received the intended effects, now possessing superhuman abilities, however, Alex was only offered more time to live due to her terminal degenerative illness.

In the summer of 1995, Diana was working undercover within Umbrella to gather development data on their projects for her company. Here, she had a chance encounter with Albert, an intelligence officer at the time, which permanently altered the course of her life. The two were never seen far from one another’s side, marrying in 1998, and they went on to become notorious in the bioweapons industry. The development of the Uroboros virus was where things took a turn for the worst. Although Diana’s infection was successful and she bore abilities that rivalled her husband’s, the plan itself did not succeed as they had hoped, and almost cost Albert his life at the hands of his former subordinates.

Now, they work within the shadows, with Diana declared missing and Albert believed to be dead. Their legacy, however, lives on with the mark they left on the world. As visionaries in their field, they influenced bioterror attacks carried out by countless individuals and organisations. In turn, they also inspired others to fight against such atrocities. One such person happens to be Albert’s son from a former relationship, Jake Müller, whose existence he was unaware of.

ok so i have run into a very sad dilemma:

when i was trying to find yarn for the borders on my cardigan, my craft store didnt have any trans flag colored yarn which is why I ordered some online.

now... the yarn I got was a good and pretty yarn, but it's VERY different from the yarn on my trans grannies. alas the perils of buying yarn you cant touch first. it's a different texture, it's a smaller weight, and the white isn't WHITE white the way the squares are.

HOWEVER!!!

my last trip for yarn revealed THIS

Big Twist is the same yarn I used for the trans grannies ;;; AND THEY HAVE TRANS COLORED YARN NOW, which means it will match MUCH BETTER on my cardigan

BUT i have already done all the borders on my cardigan with the other yarn. so my options are accept it and stick with the slightly off yarn, or cry as I cut the stitches to remove that yarn and redo it with one that matches better.

and honestly. i think im probably gonna redo it, as much as it'll hurt to cut the stitches :( i think ill be happier in the end of it matched better

Alice got to open the place up this time, though first, I had her set the prices to “Sale” (aka 15% markup) down from the regular 25% markup. Why? Because they DO NOT need the money, and I wanted to see if stuff would sell faster if it was a little cheaper. She then got sent to have some zoomies to deal with her slowly-growing Fury (no wolfing out at work!) while Victor bunked down for a nap in the break room and Smiler went out to handle the sales floor (after consulting their future cube for advice, since I wanted them to do something while waiting for customers – “the cube abides,” apparently)! Amusingly, the very first Sim to show up for the day was L. Faba – guess she was tired of Morgyn getting all the attention whenever the gang visited the Magic Realm. XD (Which reminds me, I really gotta bind Victor’s dragon familiar to him already...) Anyway, after a bit of lag, Smiler was able to let off one of their patented vampiric happiness bursts for the incoming customers and chat with Catarina Lynx for a bit to try and convince her to buy stuff –

A decision that led to me transferring $40,000 of their household funds over to the store so I could upgrade the downstairs kitchen area with the best Schmapple fridges and ovens, and add a counter by the corner so I could put in a stand mixer, a waffle iron, and a pizza oven! All in the blue swatches, since I thought those looked nice. :) I then had Alice use the bulk food processors from Simsonian Library to process some potato flour so she could whip up a batch of dough –

-->Aaand suddenly EVERYONE WAS BUYING SHIT. Yeah, apparently cheaper prices DO encourage more sales. I quickly had Alice run up there to help Smiler with the initial rush (since Victor was still working on taking care of his needs) – Catarina picked up a loaf of cheesy bread for $71; Christen a jar of blueberry jam for $80; and Janae a small mushroom for $5. We got a brief break while some of the customers got distracted by the sight of celebrity Brytani Cho in the store (long enough for Victor to get up and go to the bathroom), but after that and another annoying case of lag, the sales started coming again, with Bella Goth grabbing a box of dried sage for $413, and L. Faba getting a box of cheese for $621. I took a moment to check downstairs and saw that Alice’s dough was ready, so I had her go downstairs and grab that –

Aaand got an LE as she did so. However, that was shortly followed by customer Olivia grabbing an avocado from the produce fridges/warming racks, so I think the LE was actually related to that – specifically, to my Brazen Lotus stuff. Meh. At least I'm pretty sure I know what it is (the game doesn’t have a proper animation to play if a Sim is getting a normally-not-allowed-in-produce-fridges item out of a produce fridge, so it goes “hey”) and that it’s not TOO game-breaking!

So, i was discussing with my brother who the third Prime Soul could be (we know 1 was King Minos, he's pretty sure 2 is gonna be Sisyphus, but 3 is unknown)

Soooo I'm searching through Dante's Inferno for famous members of Greek mythology that fit with the level theme, which is minos on lust and Sisyphys on greed. So, logistically it would be the next even layer (which is Fraud)

So far, I've got Jason of the argonauts, Antaeus, and Ulysses (though who are we kidding ourselves it could be any number of the other people in it because Dante's Inferno is dante's crossover fanfiction, and it Does seem like Ultrakill is inspired by the book)

Would it be spoilers to ask why was Alvaro's Spanish not translated by the magic the same way his English was?

It wouldn't be spoilers at all - as a matter of fact, I was kind of hoping it'd come up eventually!

So in case anyone was wondering, I've actually been going by the language headcanons found in Lost in Translation by Broken_Synchronicity (a really good fic I highly recommend it) - along with the fact that (at least until Port Fest cries) there didn't seem to be any real mention of Spanish culture. Again, at least from what I could see - maybe I just missed something lol

So it gave me the idea of Spanish just not being a language in Twisted Wonderland. Then I learned from the novel that there's apparently been a translation spell of sorts going on for at least the novel's version of Yuu, allowing them to understand and communicate with the people of Twisted Wonderland. And so, I combined the two!

Spanish as a language does not exist in Twisted Wonderland, and English just barely does in the form of a dead language. The most commonly spoken language is the equivalent of Japanese, which notably, Alvaro cannot speak. So, the universe throws him a bone in the form of that translation spell.

And here's where the question is finally answered instead of just my rambling - since English technically exists in Twisted Wonderland, the spell is able to work off of it and translate it easily into Japanese that the people of Twisted Wonderland hear - and vice versa with the spell translating their Japanese into English for Alvaro, since that's the language he speaks the most. However, since Spanish doesn't exist as a language, the translation spell has nothing to work off of. Think of it as trying to translate for a language you both don't understand and don't have a reference for, into a language with wildly different grammar and syntax. So it does its best by first trying to convert the Spanish into a similar sounding language - which in this case, would be Italian - before translating it into Japanese. Nevermind that even that has its flaws, shown with how the translated Spanish comes out sounding like extremely broken and butchered Japanese.

There is another caveat to the translation spell, in that it depends somewhat on Alvaro's focus. When he's not really thinking too hard about what language he's speaking, it translates smoothly into Japanese for him (or as smoothly as it can be when he's speaking Spanish). However, if he's focusing on what language he's speaking - or even writing - it can't translate at all, due to Alvaro's own thoughts disrupting the spell. This goes the same for writing and reading, something Alvaro takes advantage of when he writes in his notebook. It's very annoying when it comes to reading though, since if Alvaro thinks too hard about what he's reading, he'll start seeing Japanese instead of English and have to stop before he's able to continue.

As a note, any text Alvaro writes in either English or Spanish when he's purposely thinking about writing in them stay in that language - the translation spell doesn't change them since Alvaro can already read it, and no one else has this spell cast on them. On top of that, though it has the capability to translate other languages into English for Alvaro, it focuses on translating just Japanese. If he really focused, he could try and translate other languages, though he has yet to find it worth the time.

Tldr; there is a translation spell Alvaro had cast on him when he first arrived in Twisted Wonderland, that allows him to talk to other people and read and write without drawing any suspicion to himself. This spell is disrupted whenever Alvaro purposely thinks about the language he's speaking/reading/writing with. When it comes to Spanish, since there is no basis for the language for the translation spell to work on, it tries its best to translate it first to Italian (the closest equivalent it has) and then to Japanese (the common language), resulting in very wonky and broken-sounding translations.

Over 6 years ago, Technoblade and Etoiles played together on United UHC. Although they never got to meet each other on the QSMP, it's nice to see that they already had some nice banter and a fun dynamic developing during the brief time they knew each other.
