When writing using both the canon translation spell and the "Old Trade" English headcanon, would characters fluent enough in Old Trade hear or understand Alvaro's dialect well enough? Or would they just hear Common when speaking to him?

I imagine for characters fluent in Old Trade, most of the time they'd just hear Common when speaking with him. After all, the spell counts on him not focusing too hard on what he's saying so it gets automatically translated. Even if they're speaking Old Trade to him, he'd just respond in Common because it's already English being translated into English.

The only time they'd hear Old Trade from Alvaro is if he was actively making an effort to speak English. And while his dialect would likely confuse them, they'd technically be able to understand him just fine.

I guess to put it simply, characters fluent in Old Trade would usually just hear Common from Alvaro; the only times they'd hear him speak Old Trade is if he's actively thinking about speaking English.
