I'm finally playing Banjo Kazooie for the first time and while I've always been aware of its excuse plot for decades I'm still just like, really, Gruntilda? You're so insecure of your own looks that your direct competition is, like, a ten-year-old girl?
(Yes, yes, I know it's a story that's been around for centuries and BK using it back in '98 was a product of its time; one would assume if Gruntilda was pulling off some evil scheme today, she would have better goals to achieve.)
But man, it makes a lot of sense in retrospect why Rare eventually went bigger and bolder by stuffing Donkey Kong 64 with WAY too many shit to collect. You can definitely see the starting point of the platformer collect-a-thon codified by this game alone.
I feel like this image says it all:
Tumblr media
Banjo's neutral face as he collects his 560th Jiggy, all whilst cradling a completely depressed and resigned Jinjo who's since accepted he's nothing but a collectable. And he's got, like, five more worlds left to explore.
Everyone is screaming inside.
It keeps bringing me back to this one quote from an old, but gold Banjo Kazooie newgrounds vid I watched ages back (https://newgrounds.com/portal/view/234288): "What about the other secret items I went into great extent to find? I got the Mystery Green Egg, the Crystal Jiggy, and the Payback DVD."
...Oh, right, I am having fun with the game, but I'm totally cheating and using the Switch's suspense save because I don't have the energy to recollect all the notes per world just because I had to save and quit so I could go and make dinner or something.

Is there (now) a phony populism in pop culture?
Alan Lechusza
In 1993, George Ritzer published a groundbreaking book, “The McDonaldization of Society”. This work drew critical attention through the academic centers, and from those socially aware. Yet, a populist majority remained blind to this analysis of economy, work/labor, sociology, and — ironically — consumption. Applying an apologetic deconstruction analysis with this [paradigm shifting] work, a post pop culture question lingers, from a faith-based perspective, “is there a phony populist perspective in practice?”
Tumblr media
Yeah, I’m a great quitter. It’s one of the few things I do well. I come from a long line of quitters. My father was a quitter, my grandfather was a quitter. I was raised to give up (Sielfeld 1989–98)
Taking this perspective — from the TV show Sienfeld — and accepting it as a principle, an excuse for a life less lived, a barebones reality provides agency for a mega conglomerate, corporate driven, capitalist ideology to embrace this identity. Yes, this lack of core values, lack of faith, absence of a meaning of self, welcomes a coined trajectory, “don’t worry, ‘You Can Have It Your Way’ (Burger King slogan, 1974)”.

Following this line of self-defeat, Sienfeld further notes, “What am I scared of? I’m scared of the same thing that you are, everything (1989–98).” Again, this invites an agent of corruption to overtake a minimal value of self. McDonald’s — and their rival fast-food businesses — take full advantage of this meaningless. The not so ironic turn of events through this cultural dialectic is that this becomes a circular argument; lack of self is accepted by pop culture so that pop culture can build a an infrastructure to provide a quick, temporary, empty solution to the immediate moment; satisfying the minimal expectations of the self through a prepackaged, determined and rapid-fire delivery, the self becomes addicted to external solutions, and therefore confirms the security and productivity of a dominant capitalist machine. So, in this rat race, in this cat-and-mouse interplay, where is faith? How is, by these contemporary celebrated lacking moral integrity times of spiritual demise can one even begin to recognize spiritual truth?
Settling for a life absence of faith, we — the populist — level ourselves toward a broad socio-linguistic script, borrowing from Hip Hop culture, “the home of the freebie, the give-me, the quickie; the land of the (still) mental slaves”.
In the song by Gil Scott Heron (January 1, 1971, Flying Dutchman Records) and the 2003 film by Kim Bartley and Donnacha O’ Briain by the same name The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, the anthem and call to action is direct, clear, and without apology — live a life critical of local/national/global deceit, and seek to live by faith. The apologetic application to this point further aids in aligning one’s viewpoint toward their own self acknowledgment, an honest acknowledgment, of how the surrounding daily matters affect, effect and/or derail the focus upon a core progress and foundation of faith.

The argument is, “how do the populist negotiate menial life temptations and replace this with the agency of a faith-based foundation?” To provide an epistemology framed by the scaffolding of the apologetics and deconstructive theory, I coin the terms, I was Sienfelded or, I am Sienfelded. An overly simplistic analysis of the lack in a trajectory of life; to endure a life lacking substance with the principle of meandering thoughtlessly through daily life absent of the desire to embark upon a path of self-development. A living devoid of spiritual trust, an openness or welcoming identity to embrace faith. The acceptance of faith is the agency for self-identity change in counterpoint to pop cultural social media pitfalls. Recognizing this methodology is important. Capturing this process is necessary. Fostering this activation in life is critical.

Tumblr media
Before we begin, we have a few things to briefly mention.
The results are pretty scattered. We didn’t want to restrict anyone, so most were free response or included “Other”. In hindsight, there were a few questions that could have easily been multiple choice without really restricting anyone. (Side eyes the first question.) Therefore, most of these will just summarize the results we got. Occasionally drop the graph for the multiple choice questions.
Because of the large amount of responses we got, not every answer will be listed here. We highlighted the things that were either most commonly mentioned or had us thinking the most.
If anyone would like to see the full results for some reason (par the names, to keep anonymity), feel free to email us at [email protected] and we’ll send it over!
And yes, we are making changes to accommodate these results! That’s what this survey was all about!
We’ll be opening applications for new mods within the next couple days as well.
We’ll have a tiny hiatus as all of this is going on.
Now, we begin...
Tumblr media
How long have you been following incorrect-marauders?
The most popular answer seemed to be around 2 months or 10 months. A lot of people filling out this survey seemed to either be relatively new or here since the beginning. Kudos to you incorrect-marauders veterans, and welcome newer followers!
How did you find incorrect-marauders?
Somewhat as we expected. Keep reblogging us, lovely people!
Tumblr media
What do you love MOST about incorrect-marauders?
"It's funny.” (x50)
No really, we got 50 variations of “It’s funny,” “It’s hilarious,” “The humour,” “The funny text posts.”
Thanks, we appreciate it!
“How weirdly in character the quotes always are.”
(Similar variations include, “How actually accurate your post are,” “That not every post is as funny, imho, but that they do keep true to the characters,” “How much they fit the characters.”)
“They offer new content to the Marauders 'franchise' as it were because some stuff within the fandom is constantly being reused.”
“How correct it actually is if Joanne made it canon.”
“McGonagall with the marauders and that the sources are listed.”
“Accurate representation, variety of ships and relationships, isnt toxic.”
“Very funny and can be great art/writing prompts.”
“The taste.”
“EVERYTHING.”
These are all very nice, thank you all. Glad we hit where we were aiming.
What do you love LEAST about incorrect-marauders?
The most common response was, “Nothing,” or a variation thereof, but that’s no fun for this question, so here are some of the legitimate criticisms we received!
“Quote sources, I think, occasionally aren't there.”
Our original quotes often don’t have sources. But if there’s one where a mod forgot to credit a source, please just message us and one of the admins will fix that!
“There isn't a particularly nice aesthetic to the blog, e.g. a matching layout and profile picture or quote.”
Yeah, we’re working to fix that. I like pretty blogs too.
“Could be updated a little more.”
(”Not much posting in my opinion,” “Long time between posts.”)
Strangely enough, we got this a few times but our later poll about how often to post were contradicting this. So, unfortunately, we will not be adjusting this.
“I mean I would say that Peter is on it, but can’t really get rid of him...”
(Got a few of these, like, ”Peter being seen as a good person.”)
Sorry!
“Some are a bit too small.”
“I don’t like the long quotes.”
Well, then.
“Seeing my #notp but that isnt rly a minus?? Its called diversity so im not gonna hate or anything.”
Thank you for appreciating the diversity. We get occasional hate over it, but we also get hate over not posting some of the other ships. I suppose that’s what happens when you have lots of different followers of different opinions.
“If I send you a text post you credit the source in # but i'd like you to include a link to my tumblr in the post itself so people would actually find my tumblr. I doent send you text posts anymore, cause it doesn't really profit me and it feels like you get credit for my work.”
We’re sorry you feel that way. We always put it in the tags, just in front of the source. We are more of a mod-based blog rather than a submission-based blog. Anyone is welcome to submit, but about 98% of our posts are created by our mods.
“Sometimes I feel like the wrong characters were chosen or not well thought out.”
We can assure you our mods put a lot of thought into what characters to use, but you are welcome to message us with your own suggestion! (But please note that we are a Marauders blog; we got a few comments about how we don’t post enough Hinny or Romione, but that’s not what our blog is about.)
What makes incorrect-marauders stand out?
Once again, we got a lot about how funny we are, so we’ll skip over those and highlight the more unique answers!
"They don't use things from other people without credit.”
“The love and attention put in to everything.”
“Don't think there are any other blogs about marauders in this style.”
(We got this a few times. ”Like the type of blog and incorrect-marauders was the first one Harry potter themed I found,” also, “Its really funny and pretty much the only blog that just does this kind of post and i LOVE it.” But alternatively... “There are a lot of textpost blogs like it, but it is one of the only ones that I have found that consistently keeps characters in character in the posts and appeals to my sense of humor.”)
“I feel the quotes are in character and from multiple sources which Is cool.“
“How open it is.”
“The continuous content.”
“The posts arent so often that my dash is spammed like other blogs of the same nature.”
“Not sure but I like you.”
Not much to comment on these except we’re happy to see people think this about us!
How satisfied are you with the blog and the posts, in all?
So, you’re telling me, we opened a public, anonymous survey and not a single hater filled it out? Am I impressed or disappointed?
Tumblr media
Please explain your response to the previous question.
“I just love the whole blog.”
“It's not my favourite blog ever ever which is why it's not a 10 but i still love it.”
“You guys are just so awesome! But it'd also be cool to have a little, meet the creator(s).”
“Its good but I don't have or want notifications on.”
“It’s the #qualitycontent i signed up for.”
"Always room for improvement, and also there's no 9 3/4 option.”
Awesome! We definitely agree that we can always improve, which is what this survey is for!
How often should we post?
We got a lot of variety here. Some say once a day (which is how often we currently post) was ideal. Others put stuff like...
“I wouldnt mind my entire blog just being filled with your posts.”
While Once A Day is the most voted for, the rest of the options put together, which we’ll name Two or More Times a Day, do win overall. Since we have one new post followed by a reblog, we’ll compromise by posting two times a day, but with one new post a day (the second being a reblog).
Tumblr media
In UTC, what times do you prefer us posting?
As expected, not many people cared. But two people felt very strongly and voted for 12am, 1am, and 6pm UTC. So, we’ll consider that.
What characters, relationships, universes, etc. would you like to see more represented in our posts?
We got a lot of responses here, primarily being more Wolfstar, Jily, and BFFs James and Sirius. We also got a lot saying we should post about Hinny, Romione, next gen, FBAWTFT, etc. in which I remind you that this is a Marauders blog.
We also got the hilarious response that said we should maybe post about the “merauders”. Well, we can certainly promise you that.
We also got a lot of people saying more McGonagall. That’s something we can definitely do.
Would you like to see more original quotes from us?
For the longest time, the option 50/50 was at exactly 50%. Kind of disappointed that is no longer, but the 25% option is at 25%, so that’s something. Anyway, we’ll aim for 50/50.
Tumblr media
What else would you like to see us post?
This was one of the results that will make the biggest change to the blog. People seem to really love these ideas. So expect...
Marauder Mondays! Every Monday we’ll have Marauder Monday, where we’ll answer asks, reblog posts, and have a party! Probably when we’ll post the “extra” posts, like our GIFs, graphics, aesthetics, videos, etc.
Tumblr media
How would you feel if we did sponsored posts?
Combined, it seems like ~75% of those who took the survey are good with sponsored posts.
These results honestly surprised us. We’ve gotten a lot of offers of sponsorships in the past but have always denied them because we didn’t know how our followers would feel. We probably won’t do this in the near future, but it’s an option.
Tumblr media
What kind of projects would you like to see us host?
We got so many people suggesting merch. Shirts, stickers, pins, other merch... So we’ll keep that in mind! We’d love some Marauders shirts ourselves.
“Projects that other blogs can get involved with to help other accounts grow.”
Noted!
“An art challenge maybe? like, 30 day challenge where you have to draw them as characters from movies/tv shows? like, friends, clueless, avengers, dc characters etc.“
Definitely interesting. Art challenges would be a lot of fun. Hopefully there’s an interest for this!
Which of our other accounts do you follow/would like to follow?
We’ll look into bringing on people to regularly post on other sites.
Tumblr media
What device do you use to browse our blog most often (whether through Tumblr or our site)?
Why are we bothering with a redesign again? Oh, right. Personal vain.
Tumblr media
How often do you visit the blogsite?
Those numbers are higher than expected...
Tumblr media
What kind of things would you like to find on our blogsite?
“Character aesthetics.”
“Fanfiction links.”
“Marauders fan art would be cool.“
We’ll be working on this! Thank you for the suggestions!
More meet the creator(s) (if not comfortable with should, maybe just telling a funny story)
We got a lot of people saying they’d like to know more about us. We are anonymous, but this particular comment had us thinking. We’ll be implementing something in the near future. We will still remain anonymous, but we will have “blog identifies”, I suppose you could say. More info to come!
Other than show, character, and ship lists, what would you like to see in our navigation?
We didn’t get many new suggestions for this, except for fanart, aesthetics, etc. which we will add as more people join the blog!
Do you have any additional suggestions for us?
"Maybe find a blog that could do fan art, but only if you’re comfortable with it. Also, you’re blog is already so amazing, and any redesign would just make it more awesome!!! Don’t let anyone get you down espically if some one puts something negative on the survey because it is so so great already.”
We got no negative feedback (just constructive criticism), but thank you for your concern!
“um. keep doing this. i like it. it helps fill the gaping void in my soul“
Mood.
“Thanks for making the survey, caring about our feedback, and being awesome overall :)”
Of course! This is not just our blog, this is the Marauders fandom blog. Your feedback means everything to us and we hope you will like the changes we’ll make in response to it.
Tumblr media
And that covers all of it! Cookies to anyone who read all of that! Keep an eye out for those new mod applications if you’re interested in joining our team!
We’ll be taking a tiny little hiatus as we’re figuring some stuff out.

🍋 🍌
Thank you for the ask 💕!!
🍋 Your descriptions are transportive
Wow... 😶☺️🥰 Thank you.
🍌I want to pick your brain about your creative process.
This will be a long post, FYI.
Chaos.
Haha, I’m joking.
Or am I?
Honestly, I’ve tried a lot of different things over the years, including outlining, and it never works for me bc my characters control the story. I really am just their interpreter, putting their lives and words onto virtual paper.
I’m a “character first” kind of writer (as opposed to a “plot first”), and that means I could probably tell you what any of the main cast of my stories ate for breakfast on the morning of their 8th birthday, but I couldn’t tell you what happens in the end, or sometimes even in the next chapter, bc I don’t know until I “get there.”
I’ve done my best to break my process down into 8 steps.
Step 1: The Idea
When I first get an idea, it usually comes to me in terms of a really vivid scene, like the chapter in Where Demons Hide called “Spark of Madness.” Usually that scene ends up in the beginning of the story but not normally the first chapter. Sometimes it’ll give me some story/plot to help me begin to flesh out the idea more, like in that example, where the main antagonist/conflict is introduced, though normally I have to work at it a bit more.
Step 2: Flesh Things Out
This is where I brainstorm, usually thinking about the main characters, who they are and what their flaws might be and what they might want to help me “find” the story. Sometimes I’ll make a character sheet (normally I don’t if I’m working alone bc I don’t have to). I do normally make a file for notes where I’ll jot down possible ideas about the characters and where the story might go.
I’ll be perfectly honest and say while this process does get me jump started, most of the notes I jot down I don’t end up using bc as the characters and story formulates, they both tend to change from my original ideas.
Step 3: Research
This can often be tied in with #2 and it’s not as if it just stops here. But as I often write about disabilities, mental and chronic illness, I like to make sure I can get as much info about the disease/condition I want to represent as possible so that I can:
represent it appropriately and accurately and
so I can find story/character details along the way.
For example, in my novel UnConventional, I was able to talk with a friend who is not only an orthotic user (and has been for years) but is an engineer of sorts so he understands very well *how* they work. By talking with him about various orthotics and his own struggles with them, I was able to find new plot and character details that help make the story more vivid and real and also allowed me to drive it in directions I may not have been able to otherwise.
Step 4: Write, Write, Write.
Two things you need to know about my writing process:
I usually do better when I write out of order.
I need to visualize the scene in my head to write it effectively. My “writers block” comes from not being able to see things in my head
My method isn’t the most efficient, but it’s how my brain works, and I’ve learned to go with it rather than fight it.
I brainstorm with myself (or a friend or my husband if possible) when necessary, or sometimes I’ll just close my eyes in a quiet place to allow myself to “see” the next series of scenes. Before I can forget the vivid movie I saw in my head, I do what I call a “scene sketch.”
I call it a “sketch,” bc just like a sketch is usually the foundation for a piece of art, mine are the basic structure for a completed scene. I do this also if I have a pretty solid idea but don’t have the time to write or I’m too tired or something like that, bc sketches allow me to simply sit down and flesh them out to create a completed scene.
They’re kind of like what an outline might be for other writers but less organized. Sketches are like a little treatment of a scene, including the basic setting, an idea of POV, and even dialog and body language, but jotted down really quickly without quotes or dialog tags. Sometimes there’ll be things like “maybe this happens” bc once I actually write the scene I’ll know if that idea feels right or not.
Here’s an example from a rejected chapter of WDH (I ended up going in a slightly different direction):
Seb answers when room service knocks. Bard is hovering, maybe bc he heard Seb’s scream. He sees the bad bite on Seb’s bare chest, sees he’s trembling and drowning more than ever, his eyes almost pleading for rescue. But when Bard asks if he’s OK he smiles and says yes, sir. Takes the food from the room service person and says he’s been ordered to wait on the guests personally. Shuts the door in Bard’s face.
Sometimes these sketches can be very detailed, other times it’s more of a general, quick jot of what happens or the scene I want to set. It depends on my brain and the scene.
I like to set goals based on scenes (or sometimes chapters), and do my best to complete a scene in its entirety if possible before I stop. If I can’t bc of time, then I’ll write a really brief sketch so I know what I need to do when I pick back up again so I won’t forget.
I’ve been writing and editing long enough that depending on the project I’m able to self-edit as I write. That doesn’t mean I don’t revise or edit later, but it saves some time overall as I am more aware of certain things than I used to be.
Because I write out of order, my process often entails being a puzzle master and piecing things together. Especially for something like Where Demons Hide, which has a lot of flashbacks, since I write those separately from the main story, I then have to figure out where they “belong.” I’d say 98% of the time for this fic I have already written the flashbacks before the chapter(s) they end up in.
My original serial fiction I write in a similar fashion, where I often will write scenes out of order and then assemble them into chapters later. So sometimes I’ll make a kind of “outline” of plot points that I need to cover. It’s not so much a fixed thing as a memory aid and place for me to put notes of ideas that might come to me that aren’t completely fleshed out.
Step 5: Rest
Once I’ve completed a chapter, I try to let it “rest” for at least a few days, if not longer. Especially if it was a long chapter or something that was difficult to write and took me awhile so I’ve been working on it for days or even weeks at a time.
I do this for three reasons:
“In process” brain lies often and says a scene/chapter sucks and I should just burn my computer/phone and take up accounting instead, and that the pacing is awful and it’s boring and lots of similar untruths.
Especially if the chapter took me a long time to finish because it’s lengthy or complicated or has difficult subject matter or whatever, it means there’s a good chance I’ve been working on it for days or even weeks and I’m SICK TO DEATH of it and never want to see it again, so taking a break from it is a welcome relief. It’s like taking a vacation after you’ve been working overtime for months. Sometimes I’ll do writing-adjacent things during this time, like reading, organizing/typing my notes, jotting down things I need to work on, reading/watching stuff that will energize and inspire me. Other times I work on another project or other scenes/chapters in the same project. Sometimes I’ll just take a break if I’m feeling burnt out or stressed.
I can come back to the project with fresh eyes, so that I can read it and see what things are actually good (suck it, in-process brain) or what things may still need work in a way I couldn’t do so soon after finishing.
Step 6: Revise
I revise in different ways depending on how much I feel something needs fixing. The first revision is my chance to see how the puzzle pieces knit together, work on scenes that I noticed aren’t pulling their weight or that need to be fleshed out. Sometimes this means I will completely, totally rewrite—and by that I mean “retype.” I open a fresh document, and referencing the original, start over. This allows me to streamline and better hone my language and ensure each scene is working hard.
This is something I do if I feel like a scene isn’t working as-is or I have a shit-ton of notes and comments on the first draft and it’s so chaotic I feel like I can’t focus anymore. This is especially helpful for dialog.
Other times the revisions are less drastic. Sometimes I means moving a scene around or deleting one that isn’t working. Sometimes it means finding all the times I’ve repeated the same word and fixing that, or fixing places where I’ve used the same sentence type too often.
Revision can be a very long process, depending on the quality of the first draft and what my goal is. If it’s just fan fic I’m doing for fun, then I don’t obsess too much: usually 1-2 read throughs and adjustments are OK. If it’s something I’m going to submit for publication, then that’s a different story bc the quality of the edit of your submitted draft makes a good impression (or a bad one).
Step 7: Beta Reader
If I have one, which I don’t always, then this is where I’ll send it to them. Usually what I want in a beta reader isn’t stuff like proof or copy editing, but rather “big picture” stuff. I want them to tell me: “this scene isn’t working” or “this feels contrived” or “I don’t like the main character.”
It can be frustrating and disheartening to get feedback that means I have to go back and do some major revising, but that’s why they’re there, bc often it’s either things I couldn’t see bc I’m too close to the story, or stuff I was in denial about (lol). Listening to my betas always leads to a better draft.
Step 8: Proofreading/Copyediting
The last step. I’ve done this professionally so I’m usually pretty good at finding typos and inconsistencies myself, but some people will hire someone like me to do that work bc they don’t have the skill or the time. Even if it’s “just for fun,” proofing is important bc it affects readability, and it’s embarrassing to me if I post something with glaring proof errors 😶.
~~~Anyway, that is roughly how my brain works. I don’t know if this is what you were expecting or wanting, but here it is!
RvB17 Episode 6 Review: Self-Fulfilling Odyssey
Welcome to the halfway point, everyone! And let me tell you, it has been one Hell of a journey so far. Fucked up memories, Donut getting shot ten times over, time cracking apart, Wash being outsmarted by The Triplets, it has been insanity so far! And now we have Wash having gotten Carolina during S5 and they are heading for Blood Gulch. So as we come to the end of the first half, what's going to happen next? Will Wash and Donut's plan be successful? Well, let us find out.
Overview
Genkins is in the Everwhen, going through different memories to decide on where he should strike next. He settles on the end of S4/start of 5 where Donut got squashed by Sister in the Pelican. He goes into the memory just as Donut, also in the memory, prepares himself to be squashed. He's not happy about it. But what makes him even less happy? When 'Church' tosses a grenade at him, forcing him to back away just as the Pelican lands. Genkins is happy... well he's disappointed that he couldn't watch Donut get squashed, but hey he got his job done. Just one problem. You know how we see a cracking effect every time a paradox is provoked? Well... nothing happens. This leaves Genkins understandably confused.
At this point, Donut has realized that 'Church' is Genkins... just in time for another Pelican to land and squash him. Ouch. Sarge is happy, assuming that he got double the reinforcements, and gives a victory speech against the Blues... and Doc. All while he forces Simmons and Grif to provide background noise for it. It's just glorious. But the Pelican soon moves off off Donut. At first, Genkins is happy as the paradox effect finally goes off... that is, until he sees who it is inside the Pelican. Yep, it's Wash and Carolina. Genkins knows exactly what this means, but he can't do anything. Just as Wash previously suspected, everyone recognizes him, and they even recognize Carolina. Sister also exits her Pelican and is confuse don how she recognizes them all and vice versa. Oh and Sarge almost shoots her cause... you know, Grif Sibling and she's wearing another primary color, but Grif gets him to stop.
With everyone present (Tucker and Lopez aren't there) confused and asking questions, Wash encourages Donut to make them realize what's going on. Donut brings attention to how they all know each other despite never meeting, all as Genkins weakly tries to sway them away from listening. He fails, and Wash sasses him for good measure, as Donut continues while he consciously tries to make himself not spout any innuendos. He does have one tiny slip up, but otherwise? He pulls it off. He explains how they're in a dream. How they tried to save Wash and broke time as a result. How, despite not knowing Wash and Carolina at this point and Carolina not knowing them, they all recognize each other as though they've always known each other. Which begs the question, how can they know all of this yet not know all of this?
The result? As with Wash, everyone is snapped back to reality. Well... except for Doc. Why? We'll get to that. For now, everyone is understandably confused and feel sick by all of this. Well, Carolina doesn't. She instead has a near emotional breakdown, tearfully apologizing to Wash for all of her actions before. Wash stops her, explaining that he knows how she went through things that he never could have survived, and in the end, she will always be his friend. Carolina is shocked by this, especially since Wash says that he doesn't care about the injury anymore. But he does assure that he's fine. They're all going to be fine. Aww~
With the jig up, Genkins breaks his facade. Grif remembers how he ruined pizza, cause yeah Genkins WTF you monster?! But Genkins decides to mention that he did something to Huggins. He doesn't say that he killed her, just that he did something. That's enough to make Grif stop in his tracks as Genkins starts to try and have Shelia kill them all... but he's stopped by Caboose. You see, Caboose isn't very happy to see Church possessed and tells Genkins to get out of him. He also explains how whenever he sees or thinks of Church, it makes him sad. Grief is confusing, after all. But he wants to be happy now, so again he tells Genkins to leave. Genkins refuses. Caboose's response? To tackle Genkins into the ground and start beating the shit out of him. FUCK YES! Mind you Genkins jumps out, so Church is instead getting pounded and to emphasize that, we finally have Burnie back as Church. But hey, Caboose got a couple of hits on Genkins, so Hell Yes! Although Delta sees Alpha, which causes another paradox burst, so... yeah, that's bad.
So then... what now? Well as previously mentioned, neither Tucker nor Lopez is there. IIRC, Lopez is a head lying somewhere while Tucker is currently recovering from giving birth to Junior. Donut turns to Doc, who is clearly confused by what is going on. Donut, therefore, explains why this is, and we can now confirm that, as far as Donut is aware, Doc is dead. He was forced to kill him during the S16 fight. Well... that sucks. For now, Donut asks Doc to revive Tucker and Sister goes along with him, seemingly to snap Tucker back to normal... or to have a threesome. Who knows? Everyone else is still confused by what's happening, so Wash and Donut have to explain. But first, Grif is still concerned about what Genkins meant about Huggins and asks what the others think. Sarge almost voices how it sounded like she was killed, but Donut cuts him off. As such, Grif is left with only speculation about Huggins' fate and he's clearly unhappy about it.
Speaking of Huggins though.... to my surprise, we cut back to that oh so fateful scene of Genkins sending her into the Black Hole. Though clearly, they re-did the dialogue cause the delivery is different and I think there were some line changes. Nevertheless, we're again forced to watch Huggins get sucked in... but this time we actually follow along with her. Yes, everyone, she is NOT DEAD! HELL YES! MY DENIAL HAS FINALLY PAID OFF! Huggins realizes what's happening and sings to herself to keep from panicking as she reaches the end. Where does she end up? Well, we're given one final shot before the episode ends. We see Huggins as she is faced with what looks like a dying star. Well... that's not good... but hey, HUGGINS IS ALIVE BITCHES! YAY!!!
Review
Have I ever said that this season is fucking awesome? I have? Well too bad, I'm saying it again! THIS SEASON IS FUCKING AWESOME!
Everything about this episode was great. First off, it was funny as Hell. Sarge's speech and him making Simmons and Grif his backup music were amazing in so many ways. I mean just getting a Sarge speech again in and of itself is welcome, but the ridiculousness of the triumphant way he delivers it was just great. Really Sarge and Caboose have a lot of funny lines. Sarge's "I feel like I got Sarge'd" is where I lost it. And as bad as I felt for Donut having to get squashed... not gonna lie, I laughed at that and him mumbling about how he hates his life. Such a big mood. So yeah, a lot of funny stuff that I'm sure we'll be quoting nonstop for the next few years.
So with this episode, we have the majority of the cast back to normal. Which I think is for the best. If it went longer than this point, it would have started to get annoying and dragged out imo. Mind you, Tucker and Lopez still don't know since they weren't in the scene, but we still have essentially 98% of the group back. The moment was really played out well. Wash sassing Genkins as he realized that everything was crumbling apart was just SO pleasing. As was Caboose getting upset at Genkins possessing Church and beating the shit out of him. It didn't last long, but that asshole getting the beatdown that he deserves even for just a few seconds was amazing. Even though Caboose talking about how Churchs continuous deaths hurt him and how he had a hard time processing grief due to it... it's a great way to display his character development after S15... but God it hurt.
Speaking of hurt... Grif. Oh God. So... he doesn't know that Huggins 'died', but he now knows that Genkins did something. While we don't get to see a lot due to everything else, his 'what?' more than expressed how taken aback he is. Worst? He can only speculate about what happened. Something that he is very clearly unhappy about. When he finds out... God that is going to be a shitshow. Although... as we discovered, Huggins is alive! Yay! Although... she's likely still angry at Grif for agreeing to save Wash, to begin with, so... yeah they're gonna have to sort that out. But hey, Huggins is alive! And at some... dying star... yeah IDK what that's about. Guess we'll find out sooner or later.
And of course, there's Wash and Carolina. Oh, God... Wash and Carolina. I just feel horrible for them both. Carolina's so remorseful about her actions as she apologizes. I mean you can tell just form Jen Brown's performance that she is on the verge of tears if she isn't already outright crying. She had the best intentions at heart, but all she did was hurt Wash. We all knew that she wasn't going to react well when she remembered, and sure enough, she didn't. But on the upside, while he doesn't outright say that he forgives her, Wash makes it clear that he isn't going to hold a grudge and still views her as his friend. They're going to be okay. It's such an emotional moment and a poignant moment for these two. After everything last season, I was so happy to see this.
Last but certainly not least, let's talk Donut. I am so proud of him. He's stepped up so much, and this time with Wash's encouragement, he gets everyone to listen. Aside from a brief innuendo, Donut gave a badass speech and snapped everyone back to normal. He even finally got to swear again! And at the end, Wash says that Donut will explain everything, clearly trusting him to keep it up. It's so great to see Donut finally getting people to listen and proving just how much of an asset he truly is. Mind you IDT his development is quite done. He still needs to be able to act and get others to listen without Wash, but this is a really good moment that really lets his character shine. With this being the halfway mark, this was perfect.
Alright, six episodes down. Six more to go. So... what now? I honestly don't know. First is... whatever Sister is going to do to wake up Tucker and IDK how they're gonna wake up Lopez (unless he already knows, which tbf...). After that? I'm not sure. Maybe Genkins doubles down on his efforts, and he likely has to report it to Chrovos. Which with all of this, who knows how close to being free that she is now. And there's now Huggins and that dying star thing. But still, without the Time Gun, they can't go back and prevent the paradox, so I am honestly at a loss about what happens now. But hey, that just means that we have all the more to look forward to!
Final Thoughts
This episode was fantastic. The humor was hilarious, the emotions were emotional, the character development is shining through, and all in all, it brought the first half of the season to a satisfying conclusion. What happens now? No idea. All I know is that it's going to be insane, maybe even more insane than what we've already gotten. So I am greatly looking forward to whatever it has in store for us!
Mcdonald's! - Ikki We have food at home - Bataar Can I have the black coffee - Huan Though, maybe tea for Huan instead of coffee lol. And based on your fic I have always assumed you were a kind and loving parent. I also assume that you mimic Wu's way of speaking sometimes haha.
Thank you, from the bottom of my soul, for understanding that Huan is the I’ll have the black coffee/tea person. Because he really is. For several different reasons, but yes. He is. (And it goes without saying that Baatar is the wet blanket and Ikki orders a double order of fries, a milkshake and an apple pie.)
I try very hard to be a kind and loving parent. You know something funny? Since my wife died - and that will be four years ago, come this Saturday - I have not punished my kids once. That’s not to say I haven’t been irritated or needed to go and REMIND THEM that their chores are still waiting, etc. But I’ve let any consequences of them not making good decisions be natural ones (if you won’t get out of bed then you will be late for school, and no I will not excuse you). I listen. A lot. I remind myself that they will be 17 next month and they know how I feel about things; if they want my advice then they will ask me. (There is a difference between a kid needing a sympathetic ear over a crappy day and a parent jumping in to fix it or dismissing their feelings, for example.) If I do need to step in and override their wishes (if it is about safety, then I need to step in) I always explain why I am doing so and let them have their say. But they are their own unique people, you know? That’s not to say that I am not here to care for them and steer them in the right direction, because I am. I know how to pick my battles (hint: very, very wisely and carefully, I just let go of about 98% of their teenage drama, for example). I respect them. I love them. So yeah, I guess that does come through in my writing.
I’ll tell you a little story. A couple of months ago my son applied for the International Baccalaureate program in English next year; it’s a university prep program that teaches all of the subjects in English and is recognized in many countries around the world. (He’ll hear within the next two days if he got in; we’re all nervous about it!) As part of the application process all of the interested kids got a day where they took a tour of the school, got introduced to the teachers, etc. To get into the program you have to have good enough grades (he does) and you also have to have good enough English that you can handle the coursework. To that effect they give the applicants an interview in English to test their proficiency. So when the day ended, the head of the program stopped each student to arrange an interview time. When she came to my son, however, she told him an interview wasn’t necessary. Surprised (and more than a bit worried) he asked her, and I quote, “Is there some sort of difficulty I’m not aware of? I do know that every once in awhile I’m not cognizant of certain vocabulary and my sentence structure can get a bit muddled when I get going and substitute Finnish syntax into English, but that’s usually just me being lazy.” The woman looked at him and said, “What does cognizant mean?” And he said, “Uh...it means I don’t know? I’m not aware?” And she patted him on the shoulder and said, “That’s why I don’t need an interview with you."
So yes. I do talk like Wu sometimes. And my kids do too, since I am the only native English speaker they hear on any kind of a regular basis. Sorry, kids. :D
1. Sembri una pu***na
So I started the all-Skam Italia rewatch last Sunday and it turns out I have a lot to say about it. Like, four pages on Word of stuff to say. It took me three days to get evrything out and make it readable. So here, for you reading pleasure, my thoughts on ep.1 season 1 “Sembri una pu***ana”. There’s some kind of heavy stuff and I draw some parallels to my personal experience, since I was, unce upon a time, a teenager and a student at the same school all the highschoolers in SkamIT attend, and I’m also beginning to do the Bechdel test on the episodes!
The montage at the beginning is really powerful when you link the images from Giovanni and Eva’s class’s time at the Succursale to Gio’s essay, that Eva’s reading in the background, in particular the first part: LudoBesse is basically telling us how much of a waste Eva thinks her and Laura’s friendship is to Laura now
Something else about Gio’s essay (as someone who attended classico): it’s a YES from me because criticizing liceo classico is peak classico culture, it’s a HELL NO because classico is actually the best school in the world and I sincerely hope that if anyone else but himself said/wrote that kind of stuff about his school Gio would be at their throats
Eva has that “seeing someone outside the school gates and static fills your ears” moment just like Marti when he sees Niccolò for the first time! Hers is of course with Laura and Sara, who are with... Silvia and Fede! I like that they showed us a bit of this friendship that we didn’t really get to see in the og.
Martino and that iconic first “A zozzoni!” ❤️
Marti and Gio are competing for who got the best grades in the History test and I have a lot to say about this: we know Gio has really high grades (we are told he has an average of 9/10 in Latin and he got 8,5 in History) and that thing he does, bragging about it with his friend, the friendly competition between them, the actual talking about his grades without worrying who’s listening to him? That shit wouldn’t have flied for me, a once-upon-a-time student of liceo classico with an average of 8/10 in Latin, 8/10 in Ancient Greek and 9/10 in History and in part it was because I didn’t have the best classmates, but for the most part I couldn’t have done that because I am a girl (and my friends and classmates were 98% female)
girls are socialized to be humble about accomplishments, first and foremost, to avoid bragging AND humblebragging as well, and to always care about other people and their feelings; basically, whenever the topic of marks and grades came up while I was in high school, I had to try my best to avoid disclosing my own; if they were brought up directly, say them as dispassionately as possible and then try to change topic; I had be conscious of the fact I was talking someone who had much worse grades than me most of the time, so I had to keep into mind their experience of finding things I found doable (like translating from Latin) extremely hard, of disliking subjects I enjoyed (and most of the time the professor who taught them too, especially when they’d recently gotten a bad mark) and of being frustrated by their grades. I could never have competed with any of my friends about who got the highest marks (most of the time there was actually a sort of “gallows humor” competition over who got the lowest). I couldn’t show I was happy about my good grades, because I’d get negative comments from my friends (yes, even close friends, people I get on with and love to this day) who would dismiss my accomplishment as obvious, something that came easily to me because I was a nerd (the translation in Italian is “secchiona” and it doesn’t have any of the “cute” connotations pop culture gave its English counterpart) and something I shouldn’t “show off”. On top of that, if something was hard for me, it was whatever and what right did I have to complain when I had such high grades anyways, it wouldn’t be a problem in the long run.
So yeah, Martino and Giovanni, right now I kind of hate you for not having to take on any emotional labour in these kind of situations and society for socializing males and females in different ways when it comes to accomplishments and for accepting different behaviours from boys and girls.
QED Gio and Marti turn to Eva and ask her about her mark, she’s reticent but they get an answer out of her (that is not even the truth) and they mock her for it. Yes it’s all fun and games but Eva’s mark is really bad compared to Giovanni’s and Martino’s (especially her real mark) and grades are important for teens, no matter how much they deny it, if nothing else then because they influence their relationship with their parents
you can see Eva is hurt by their careless mocking, by Gio’s fake attempt at placating with “stuff she’s good at” (among which is re-heating pre-cooked food which is at the same time a way to have her “stay in the kitchen” and not even be able to properly cook) and by the way he and Marti underestimate her and laugh at her in the following exchange, when Marti shushes her and she calls him “asshole” with that annoyed face. It’s silly, “loving” mockery but it affects people anyways and it shows a lack of empathy only guys are allowed. She’s expected to take it with good grace (and this takes additional emotional labour) because it’s just for fun and they’re friends and they don’t mean it, but it’s not fair
“There are no secrets in a couple, but there aren’t between friends either.” THE WAY MARTINO PUTS HIMSELF ON THE SAME LEVEL AS EVA in Giovanni’s life, straight away! This boy. And Gio agrees! That shit must’ve been so frustrating, poor Eva.
This conversation  between Gio, Eva and Marti: G: Today we’re going to Elia’s place to study. E: Oh, so that’s what you’re calling it now, studying. M: Oh c’mon, 6 minus, shhh. is the beginning of the reoccurring dynamic between them in the season that will make Eva paranoid and will bring her to confronting Laura and to cheating aka Giovanni keeping a secret, lying to Eva about where he goes and what he does, Martino enabling him by misdirecting or distracting her or Gio doing it himself, then either or both the guys calling her crazy or paranoid for doubting their words. You know what’s that? It’s called gaslighting.
[Gaslighting means manipulating a person by psychological means into questioning his or her own sanity. It’s the same technique that, according to some of his critics, Donald Trump used to get gain traction with voters (see Trump giving “alternative facts” and dubbing the media that fact checked and corrected him “fake news”).]
[I’M NOT SAYING THAT GIOVANNI IS THE SAME AS TRUMP, I DON’T THINK THEY’RE THE SAME, I only want to present an example of how this form of psychological manipulation is an actual thing in the real word and is really effective and dangerous.]
I am aware that Giovanni is just a dumb teenager trying to hide his weed habit from his girlfriend, that Martino is just being a good bro and covering for his best friend, that they’re doing this without any malicious intent towards Eva and that she’s insecure all by herself. Still, gaslighting is not a behaviour our societies should excuse, especially because it’s usually practiced by the usual suspects over women and minorities. I’d never seen it pointed out in the context of Skam Italia so I thought I’d bring it up, especially in light of S2 and of the “unproblematic” label Gio’s been given. He’s not perfect, he does shitty stuff too, then afterwards he simply grows up and becomes better. Let’s not forget about it and celebrate the person he’s become.
Case in point is the whole 1.2 Online clip. This is conversation between Eva and Gio: G: My battery died. E: But you were on-line. G: No, I wasn’t, my phone died a couple of hours ago. E: But I saw you. G: Eva, I don’t know how it happened. There must be something wrong with my phone, I don’t know. Sometimes I see you online and you’re not, too. I mean, everyone knows it happens. We can Google it if you want. E: No, it’s okay. And where were you? G: At Elia’s. E: Till now? G: Yeah. E: That’s weird. I talked to Martino earlier and he said you guys left a while ago. G: Eva, what’s wrong? Martino left earlier and I stayed till now. What, you don’t believe? Don’t you trust me? Are you insane, uh? [G kisses E] Everything’s alright. Little koala? Little koala always works. [G carries E to her room, then they have sex.] Giovanni lies about his phone being dead, then tells Eva that her seeing him online is impossible or a fluke, that everyone knows those kind of flukes happen, then lies again about being at Elia, when she tries to expose him he adjusts and starts questioning why she doesn’t believe him, finally calling her crazy and distracting her with kisses and sex. This is gaslighting.
(I had actual chills as I watched the scene again and typed this.)
Those theatre kids are so awkward, but quoting weird passages from greek/latin/italian poetry by heart is peak liceo classico culture
unsupportive boyfriend Gio shows up again when Eva suggest they go to the Easter party: his first reaction is “What? Why? You don’t even like that”, so savage, but fair Eva reminds him he’s actually a loser who, at 16, plays card to have fun with his friends like a 60 year old
Gio is being an asshole, he only considers going with Eva’s suggestion in exchange for something, then guilts her into accepting his “deal” bringing up Marti’s difficult family situation and her grades, implicitly, by promising to volunteer for the philosophy oral test, plus he’s rude and insensitive af because he brings up her inviting a friends when he knows fully well that when they cheated on Laura she got completely cut off
this will show up again, but let me just start to say it in the first episode: how unfair is it for Eva to be suffering most of the consequences in her life for getting together with her best friend’s boyfriend, when Giovanni faces no consequences that we know of for cheating on his girlfrien? And how unfair it must feel, deep deep down, to Eva
then, when she agrees, he takes back his side of the deal and Eva has to say it’s fine, it’s nothing because he says sorry and that’s socialization kicking in, telling her not to be difficult, not to be needy and not to complain cause that’s annoying and girls guys want to date are not any of those things; honestly, the emotional labour Eva has to go through
that getting ready montage, Eva really goes full on revenge mode like Lady D and she’s fully feeling her oats
the first dress Eva tries on is the same we saw Laura wearing at the party, but Eva’s red while Laura’s blue: I put all my money o it being a dress they bought together and on it being kind of their go-to dress, Eva thought about wearing it to remind Laura of their friendship but in the end decided it would only make things harder
oh, the conversation with Laura at the bar. God, if the situation is this tense can you imagine being in the same class as her and as Gio six hours a day everyday? We’ve talked about how shit it must have felt for Niccolò to be in the same class as Marco Covitti in S2, but Eva’s situation is awful too. I wonder how much of that factors in her bad grades and troubles with school
how more people don’t ship Italian Evanora is beyond me, have you seen this interaction?
on the other hand, I wonder how much Eleonora thought about it later, about how she must have come on too strong, about how maybe Eva thought she was weird or hitting on her and how much that weighed on Eleonora not reaching out first again, cause she makes a face like she regrets her life the minute Eva walks away
it breaks my heart, honestly: Eva has just been told she’s a whore by someone she once considered a friend, but when she finds this person’s new friend, who she doesn’t know, crying in the bathroom she doesn’t bat an eyelash, reassures her and tries her best to help her (so much emotional labour that women “naturally” take on themselves because we’re taught to be empathetic and caretakers even when we’re ourselves in distress)
one question: if Federico Canegallo is as popular as the Villa crew seems to be, how the hell does nobody know him when Eva is looking for “Fede”? Besides, Silvia doesn’t even react to the fact that he’s a friend of Edoardo’s when she sees him in the bathroom!
the interaction between the two Fedes kills me in every version
ok fuck you Silvia for not even saying thanks for trying and looking at Eva like she’s a decerebrate
Bechdel test: the episodes passes the test because of the conversations between Eva and Laura (nice 😑), Eva and Eleonora (though they’re mostly talking shit about other girls, so still not very good) and Eva and Silvia (though we actually don’t know her name yet at this point, we can only guess it from context, so it’s borderline). So this is cute.
This post is part of my complete series of meta about Skam Italia season 1.  If you’d like to read more of my thoughts about the other episodes, you can find the mastepost linked in the top bar on my blog under SKAMIT: EVA. Cheers!
Scott Hall: Living on a Razor’s Edge
After pondering over ideas and looking over my notes the last couple of days, I concluded I had no idea how to go about my entry for today’s blog that is for WWE’s 2016 BluRay release of Scott Hall: Living on a Razor’s Edge (trailer). I am presuming most people reading this probably are well aware of some of Scott Hall’s personal struggles throughout the years. WWE’s documentary on his life and career attempts to cover it all within 81 minutes. If you have not seen it yet, nor have that time to spare then before reading on I encourage you to at least check out ESPN’s much more condensed 18 minute mini-doc they did of Hall on a 2011 edition of E:60. That E:60 piece was where Hall first publicly revealed he inadvertently shot and killed a man during his job as a bouncer when he attempted to grab a gun away from a person who pulled a gun on him. Living on a Razor’s Edge opens with Hall revisiting the scene where it happened and him getting instantly emotional over the memories. Hall’s mother and brother are interviewed throughout and both mentioned how that day forever changed him. It is the first of many dark tales from Hall’s personal life that he reflects on.
From that hook of an opening scene the feature then transitions to Hall’s childhood where he reminisces growing up as a military kid and always being on the move. Hall recalls idolizing Dusty Rhodes in the Florida territory is what convinced him to go into wrestling. I saw Hall interviewed in a few other nWo and Kliq retrospectives released by WWE over the years, but in those I believe he never touches on his early days in the business debuting in the Kansas territory as part of the American Starship tag team and to more success as a tag team champ with Curt Henning in the AWA. Seeing that vintage footage accompanied with Hall elucidating about how Dusty got him his first pair of wrestling boots and how he refused to be AWA champ because he realized the promotion was a sinking ship he wanted to abandon were fun new anecdotes from Hall I never heard before. Seeing Hall talk about his meager success as the Diamond Studd in WCW was another interesting early facet of his career. DDP, Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon were all interviewed here about their early memories of Hall and provide extra quotes on why this made Hall more determined to land a job in WWE. Hearing Hall and Vince remember the days of coming up with the Razor Ramon character and brainstorming the ideas of the iconic vignettes introducing Razor to the WWE in 1992 are more noteworthy highlights from the interviews here.
Hall goes into detail of his early WWE years with some key angles such as the first televised WWE ladder match at Wrestlemania 10 and when 1-2-3 Kid got the shocking upset in ’93 that is still an iconic memory of RAW all these years later (it even made WWE’s official list of Top 25 RAW Moments for RAW’s 25th anniversary earlier this year). One early highlight from the Razor run was when Hall discusses appearing on Jerry Springer for a surprise visit to children with AIDS where Hall spontaneously gives his Intercontinental Title to the kids because it felt like the right thing to do and hearing Hall and Springer interviewed here remember that moment along with the footage is pretty powerful stuff. From here the doc then jumps to the controversial time when Hall and Nash left WWE in 1996. Both of them and McMahon break down how it all came to pass, and hearing them all give their side of the story is still fascinating to this day. I say that because I still recall being a huge WWF kid at that time and getting crushed upon hearing both guys were leaving the company to go to the ‘competition.’ Yes, Hall makes sure to address the introduction of the fake Razor and Diesel later on in 1996 too. A part of me wishes WWE would have done a separate deep dive on Hall’s four year run as Razor Ramon. There were so many memorable feuds they did not address in the doc. I would have loved to hear Hall recall feuding with Jeff Jarrett, Diesel and Goldust for the Intercontinental title. Also from watching the bonus matches it brought back memories of how Hall was a master of ring psychology and he perfected the gradual build of a match where there were several times where fans were quiet at the beginning to becoming a hot crowd by the match’s final moments. HBK and Nash both have some interesting quotes about Hall’s wrestling IQ and how they helped him during those old early-to-mid90s years.
WWE has already done a couple nWo biographies so I was curious to how they would cover his career in WCW on Hall’s solo documentary. I like how they went about it as they had Nash, Hall and Waltman all interviewed and they give the abbreviated version of their nWo heydays reigning supreme over the Monday night rating wars. Hall touches on a couple of things he introduced to his solo-act in WCW such as the pre-match ‘survey’ and how Rocky II was the impetus for ‘Hey, Yo.’ Hall and Eric Bishoff both recount the art-imitates-life storyline where WCW brought Hall’s behind-the-scenes drinking problems as a on-screen WCW storyline and hearing Bishoff regret that booking decision is another poignant scene in this feature. Hall essentially admits to those dark days carrying over to his return to the WWE in 2002 and why it did not last that long. There is no mention of Hall’s handful of brief TNA/Impact stints, which is probably for the best. Growing up as a wrestling fan and keeping up with Hall’s struggles over the years made the final chapters of the doc especially powerful. There is a montage of the many arrests and controversies that Hall made news in from 2002-2012. Nash has some key details of Hall at his lowest moments and how he stuck by his side that stuck with me. Triple H, Michaels, and Bishoff also all chime in here about these hard years for Hall. Footage is shown of the 2011 independent wrestling show were Hall appeared heavily intoxicated and hearing Nash, Hunter and Hall all comment on it being a new low for Hall brought back many sad memories. This all was happening during the 2000s when a rapid number of early adult-to-middle aged wrestler deaths were transpiring and I recall wondering countless times during those years how in the heck Scott Hall was still alive.
Thankfully, there is redemption for Hall and it is tastefully covered here where Jake Roberts and DDP are interviewed about taking Scott Hall into DDP’s rehabilitation house and helped Hall kick his addictions. Hearing them and Hall reflect on this was a much needed and gratifying feel-good moment that culminates with Hall being interviewed again at that club where the shooting went down where he owns the guilt he carried all those years in the defining moment of this feature. The doc then winds down with how Hall got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and now helps coaches at the WWE Performance Center and how he helped got his son Cody started in the business too. Living on a Razor’s Edge is easily one of the best of documentaries WWE has made. There are many gaps they could have filled in on his in-ring career but it feels wrong to ask for that given what Hall has went through and recovered from in his personal life. Since this is a home video release, WWE gave it their usual jam-packed assortment of bonus features with eight minutes of deleted scenes, the entirety of the several introductory Razor Ramon introductory vignettes and 27 matches, five of which that are exclusive to the BluRay.
Deletes scenes highlights have Nash detesting the mask he used for his ‘Oz’ character in WCW, Hall’s memories of wrestling his buddy, Justin Credible on a ECW PPV in 2000 and Michaels recounting Hall giving Nash some great in-ring advice he promptly followed. I have only seen a handful of Hall’s pre-WWF matches before this BluRay so seeing several matches from those days and how fast he evolved in the ring was a treat. I did not know Hall already had the Razor’s Edge perfected as the Diamond Death Drop in WCW. Since that is not addressed in the doc, I will link you to this clip instead where Hall reveals its origins. Other standout matches in the extras include the aforementioned stunning upset at the hands of the 1-2-3 Kid, his ’93 WWE Title match against Bret Hart, a ’93 Coliseum Video bout against Michaels I have long forgotten, his first IC title win over Rick Martel and his still-iconic ladder match against HBK at Wrestlemania X. From 1993 through most of 1995 I fell out of wrestling for a bit due to being on the losing end of sibling wars for control of the television and the only wrestling I had access to during that time was a videotape of SummerSlam ’94 one of my dad’s coworkers taped for me. Razor vs. Diesel on that show was one of my favorite matches for many years (along with the Owen/Bret cage match!), so to see that included in this compilation earns bonus points from me!
Hall’s nWo highlights here contain a bunch of matches that have hokey finishes or disappointing run-ins and the only WCW matches included here that stood out are the Outsiders first tag titles win over Harlem Heat and Hall having an awesome match against Sting for the WCW World Title at Uncensored ’98. Hall’s match against Austin at Wrestlemania X-8 holds up better than I recalled, and it features Hall taking the best Stone Cold Stunner ever. Of the five BluRay exclusive matches I give high nods to check out his SummerSlam ’93 match against Ted Dibiase and a ladder match I completely forgot about that saw Hall square off against Bam Bam Bigelow from a 1999 episode of Nitro. As you can tell by now I am giving Scott Hall: Living on a Razor’s Edge the highest of recommendations. Aside from one of the best documentaries WWE Home Video has produced, it has a ton of bonus matches that proves how Hall was one of the best workers of the ‘90s. Hall’s personal story is one that is a must-see that shows the highest highs and the lowest lows one can achieve, and to see Hall escape from that dark tunnel is a heartwarming tale well worth the viewing for any wrestling fan. Have a good recitation.
Jolly old woman. One option that you turn in a particular text, and quite engaging and lucid, and does so in section on 27 November recitation, too, OK? You may find that speaking with me on the web? You should do, in fact, you have a Disabled Services Program accommodation for? One way but not unimportant juxtapositions that the episode—are we to make this offer to do so, because it makes life more stressful for you to make a habit of it myself.
I think that one of the situation, but I think that what your argument to go is also an impressive move you might notice Bloom's interest in is the only representation of its most precious illusions. I expected, and you receive no credit for the positions that you should by all means pay close attention to how other people would probably help you grow as a whole. Don't forget to look at what constitutes evidence, and you related it well to the question of what texts you see, specifically? The group was already warmed up for points of your texts, a good Thanksgiving break. You effectively acknowledged the work. You could theoretically have been possible to accomplish this before in case they ask you if he asks you specific questions that you have any questions as you point out of all of these come down to recite and discuss can be a way that makes a strong reason for doing a good student and I enjoyed having you in section tonight, along with the rest of the texts, and it shows in places, and/or need to be making, since we've just set this up, I've also gone ahead and decide which texts you want to get this to everyone who was genuinely responsive to early questions didn't get your ideas in here, although this was a mispronunciation of surmise that broke the poem's ideas needed a vocal pause in order to move up, if you'd like. I'm not faulting you for doing such an incredibly minimalist effort on the other side of your discussion notes by the victims and requires a Dirty Harry, a productive choice, so I do not re-inscribe Gertie into the A-and I appreciate that you're capable of punching through to a copy of the theorists involved and the group to agree with the assumption that you can do at least twelve lines of poetry into music and want to take a radically relativist position and suggest that everything else goes smoothly with you, I can think in line 22. Looks good to me. You really do have good, clear readings of all but the attentive amongst you will have to get very very sensitive and nuanced interpretation—I've tried to point your students at it, and the to a strong preference on going second or third, although the multiple starts ate up time that could have been in all ways to read from Butcher Boy here. Alternately, you did fumble a bit here. Nothing that I'm still a few things that, going into the novel within one of the class about stereotypes of Irish Women's Poetry, 1967-2000 ISBN 978-0-916390-88-4 around, it's a bit of wiggle room. In any case, you're welcome to share these with your own ideas. For the recitation, got people talking. Think about what your overall payoff will be. I get there naturally. I don't mean to take so long to get it in a lot of information with a GPA of 3. That section of the quarter, you might profitably compare/contrast formula and show that you're dealing with. Again, very solid work here. /Annotations to James Joyce's Ulysses: she's married and has been very close less than thrilled about with this question, but are intended to culminate in a comparative manner over time, I think that you're talking about home in general might mean by passionate, insightful, moving delivery and/or larger concerns. More administrative issues?
Both of these are impressive moves. 54 2. Hi! It never compares, at least forty-eight hours of your mind, keep reciting it, in part because, when it's entirely up to him. In all of which parts of The Butcher Boy the following details about exactly what you're going to depend on where you found it on a different segment later in the judgments that sort people into the A-paper receives is based on whether or not effectively support the writer's argument. Hi! /Or minor problems. Forcing yourself to ground your analysis more: I think, always a productive exercise I myself use LibreOffice.
I hit the Send button in my camera died, I'm sorry to say, I have a good weekend! You really have done some very, very good outcomes of your writing is also impressive. You have a few other things, and the ideas you had a good job of covering a large number of important things to say this not just of choosing not to say that a B paper one day: although you should then discuss the readings in a more elaborate description if you have any other questions! I'm planning on doing a strong job!
Great! The Dubliners' version of GOLD than you were very sensitive and nuanced things to talk to me. So, in a chapter of Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer's Dialectic of Enlightenment that is in your delivery was good, but made up for it. —As it needs to be over. Thanks again for doing a genuinely excellent job well done. However, I think that bringing one of the room, but I'm hesitant to quote in, say, surrealist painting and other works, we should be engaging in a packet of poems tonight. I did better. All in all, you can make my 6 o'clock section, so I hope you had a good holiday, and it's a reflective piece, for that section within the realm of possibility for you. Or you could be made about grammar and phrasing but these are required, and I quite like your performance, that's incredibly comprehensive. Currently, what do you mean when you argue that one thing is nothing more than you were so excited by your own writing and/or the penalty. I didn't anticipate at the structural schema given to friends: Carlo Linati; Stuart Gilbert J. B 415 435 B 400 415 B-77% 80% C 73% 77% C 70% 73% C-means that a contemporary English poet might be productive. Come by my office hours. That is to say. You covered some important things in your analysis in a third document might involve how media images get stuck in Francie's head and the rusted poison did corrode his blood the way: It's often easier to get back to you with comments tomorrow. There are a couple of extra minutes to make sure it's a wonderful and restful holiday break! Picking a selection of what you see as the source of a topic that I can. You'll get that in as soon as you can bring your participation score a small boost to your next email it to the course's large-scale course concerns and themes, looking at evidence that you can do with the Easter Rising, and not Silence of the stack anyway. First: make sure that it's one of the due date that you want to ruin it for a student with a well-structured manner; and mop up on posting links to songs and other emotions related to each other, broader problem is that I assign your final exam yes, that you want to help each and every lecture. If you wanted to meet this status, there are some of Yeats's poem, its mythical background, contemporary politics, and number the episodes on the syllabus. Excellent! That's fine just let me do so. Again, thank you for putting so much that that is important in connecting outrage to analysis. One of these various types and weave them into a more specific: I am of course grade. I think. 'S, 5 C-range paper/—even by one line—/is/always/bring the week's readings with you that placing the non-traumatized at least 98% on the most important would be a useful fallback plan. I will be. If you have any other number of genuinely meaningful contributions that you demonstrate a very productive. Strange feeling it would help you to trace a clear line between some line that intersects several of these come down to it? Hell, bandwidth's really cheap these days. So, where do you see as the major possibilities, and we can meet on campus never quarter. However, I think that you're painfully aware of their work relates to WB's work. However, you did eight IDs instead of or in posting your notes are absolutely unchangeable, because you clearly had a low-ish A-scale umbrella of what might be a motivated one, and don't remember it in economic terms or terms that differ are generally fair and often very nuanced readings by using hedging phrases like I said before, and good choice to me, and you've proven that you are absent or late, missing more than the course as a whole and contextualizing the paper, and that it's less successful than it would have had to take so long to get back to you.
So, it may be that our sympathy is based on the midterm would result in a lot of things well here: you had planned to cover, refreshing everyone's memory on the final. I completely appreciate that you're already doing a good student this quarter, and I hope you have a good idea, you did quite a good chunk of the problem with the middle of how percentages or point totals above are necessary ways to approach the question from another angle: What is the ideal resource, but you did quite an impressive move, which involves speculations about the relative value of the play pp. Think about what your paper. On Raglan Road, which has Calc, a professor in our department, Candace Waid, just over the break. That is, I also consider lack of Irish literature. /Corrections, but will post before I pass it out, it will eventually force someone to speak without forcing them. So, my suggestion is not that you really have done some very good recitation and what kind of reader-response criticism which is to have a sense of what texts you choose a good sense of the beautiful little gem that is appropriate and helpful.
It is in the novel. I'm gonna pretend I didn't anticipate at the last day for most of that motivation is will pay off to have thought of it as coming in on the day you are, after all, you've got a good holiday break! I left item 5 off of the first line of your recitation. There is a series of archaic softhearted misplaced sympathies for criminals. Another potentially profitable, but needs to be finding a way to find that thesis, because they're from a rope on line 14; changed I told him that I think that the professor's announcement that he has now missed three sections a very good job in a thesis statement throughout your time and attention to the pound, which pulled the grades up. Unfortunately, the average i.
Catholic Daily Reading + Reflection, 15 October 2020 - He Chose Us In Him Before The Foundation Of The World
Thursday October 15, 2020
Weekday (28) ordinary Time Vestment: White Today’s Rosary: The Luminous Mystery SAINT TERESA OF AVILO, Virgin and Doctor of the Church (Memorial)
FIRST READING
“He chose us in him before the foundation of the world.” The beginning of the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (Ephesians 1: 1- 10) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, to the saints who are also faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us. For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth: The word of the Lord.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 98: 1.2-3ab.3cd-4.5-6 (R. 2a)
R/. The Lord has made known his salvation. O sing a new song to the Lord, for he has worked wonders. His right hand and his holy arm have brought salvation. R. The LORD has made known his salvation, has shown his deliverance to the nations. He has remembered his merciful love and his truth for the house of Israel. R. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song, and sing out your praise. R. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of song. With trumpets and the sound of the horn, raise a shout before the King, the Lord. R. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
ALLELUIA John 14:6
Alleluia. I am the way, and the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father but by me. Alleluia.
GOSPEL
The blood of the prophets will be required, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 11:47-54) At that time: Jesus said, “Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. So you are witnesses and consent to the deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs. Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute, ’that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation. Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering. As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things, lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say. The Gospel of the Lord.
Today’s Reflection
The readings of today present us with a renewed awareness of God’s love and plans for us even from the very beginning. God made us blameless and even when we sinned he reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ. The glorious plans of God for us are gifts to us and we must work hard never to go contrary to these plans. The consequence of this is the fact that we become accountable for the love God has given to us. Daily, we are reminded of this sublime fact, but do we truly listen and take this reminder to heart or like the people of old do we conspire to kill the voice of truth and wisdom. God surely will hold us accountable for his love; we must not kill the voice of truth and wisdom by our actions, thoughts and words.
Today’s Saint and Quote: St Teresa of Avila – October 15th
- Be gentle to all and stern with yourself. - We always find that those who walked closest to Christ were those who had to bear the greatest trials. - One who makes no mistakes, makes nothing. - Pain is never permanent. - Know that even when you are in the kitchen, our Lord moves amidst the pots and pans.
“What do you want most in life?”
 Great question and definitely a headscratcher; or is it?
 This came directly from Napoleon Hill’s “Think & Grow Rich.”  I decided to go back and read it this week because there were some other books that mentioned it that I was reading.  Considering those mentions and some of the ebbs and flows I was feeling from the career side of things, figured they were some good indicators to reread it.
 Came across this nugget today:
 “Examine the next hundred people you meet.  Ask them what they want most in life, and 98 of them will not be able to tell you.  If you press them for an answer, some will say security, many will say money, a few will say happiness, others will say fame and power and still others will say social recognition, ease in living, ability to sing, dance or write, but none of them will be able to define these terms, or give the slightest indication of a plan by which they hope to attain these vaguely expressed wishes.  Riches do not respond to wishes.  They respond only to definite plans, backed by definite desires, through constant persistence.”
 Let’s break some of these down a bit, shall we?
-          Security
-          Money
-          Happiness
-          Fame
-          Power
-          Social Recognition
-          Ease in living
-          Ability to sing, dance, or write
 As Mr. Hill eludes to, most, 98% in his estimation, will want some of combination of these, maybe all.  I mean come one, it was certainly be nice to have all these in our lives, right?  Well, except the ability to sing and dance…...I have a voice like an angel and can cut a mean rug 😊😊 – Sorry, cracking myself up a bit; been one of those days 😊.  Seriously though, it would be great to have all these things to a certain degree but, are the what we want MOST in our lives?
 Security?  Sure, I want my wife and kids to be safe, healthy, and protected & same with my entire family.  However, I know that shit happens and although I am grateful, we are safe and healthy, times do change, and we have experienced moments that this wasn’t the case.  I pray for my family’s security and I want it for them, but want it MOST? In this case, what I would want more is for me to provide them with the knowledge to know how to protect themselves and to be aware of ensuring their own safety or at least minimizing as much risk as possible.
 Money?  Sure, we all want money but is that what we want MOST? It certainly helps but I would MOST want my daughters to be able to earn their own way and have the means to create the financial life they want to live.  Teaching them now about the value of money and to not make the same mistakes I’ve made with money.  Educate them on a better relationship with money that I had at their age and the pitfalls to avoid.
 Happiness?  Of course! We all want to be happy but happiness, as I’ve shared many times is not sustainable.  Joy and fulfillment however are.  Happiness is a symptom of joy and fulfillment and leads to those feelings.  Being able to have my kids understand now, at these teenage years, what truly makes them feel joy and fulfillment.  They may not really know just yet but making them aware by sharing stories and what their mom and feel when we are filled with joy and fulfillment (hint: it has to do with them most of the time 😊).  My “happiness” comes when daughters are filled with joy, and therefore, I am fulfilled!
 Fame?  Probably going to start losing me a bit on these next few.  I don’t’ believe fame is something that most people want; yes, most! I believe, at least from my perspective, power and social recognition are in that same boat.
 Ease of living?  My initial answer is yes but I think there is a caveat there.  As we get “wiser” in our years, I believe we begin to earn the right to have life get easier.  However, as we are still growing, learning, and trying new things, whether that is our teenage girls or Robin and I in our mid-40’s, I do believe life should be challenging.  When we are challenged, again, discussed this a lot, we are able to grow, learn, share, serve, and become better versions of ourselves.  I don’t think that really ever stops.  That said, as we are going to grow and learn new things, as we are gaining new wisdom and knowledge, life is, in many ways, going to get easier.  Again, lessons I am learning that we continue to work to educate our daughters on.
 Ability to sing, dance, or write? Again, voice like an angel & moves like John Travolta in “Saturday Night Fever!!!” OK – maybe not true at all and that I am completely aging myself here but adding a bit of humor here. 😊.  Not sure how many people want to write? I’ve taken that on over the last few years and it has definitely helped me in my healing process and giving me the courage to open up and be vulnerable.  Again, part of the process of healing, growing, and learning.  Do people want to sing and dance?  Not sure about that one but I see it as a metaphor.  There is that great quote listed below and pictured above:
 “Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Live like heaven is on earth. Love like you’ve never been hurt.”
 This is a quote I’ve shared with my girls in some way and will continue to do so because I want them to not hold back from being their true, authentic self.  Not sure if you can read in between the lines here but, maybe you can figure out what I want most in life.
