did you guys know i'm a writer? yeah i had no idea either.
anyway, AMAPOLAS IN THE DESERT is a new short story (3.4k words) that just went up for free on patreon if anyone's feeling zesty and wants to read about a displaced latino roaming the american southwest, coming across a questionable watering hole, getting flirted with by trickster gods, and getting torn asunder by a trans woman who may or may not be a primordial deity.
but also, for like a whole $1, you can get access to a T4T sci-fi romance short (8k words) inspired by H.G. Wells' The Time Machine.
but also also, i've got a couple of nonfiction essays dropping next year where i set out to piss people off by arguing that their favorite pieces of media are grossly mis-categorized (in a fun and non-judgy way; and who knows, it might make it onto podcast or even video format if i can afford to outsource editing). among other things.

Survey #314
“as above, so below  /  what you reap is what you sow  /  what you give comes back threefold  /  as above, so below”
What do you do for work? I'm currently unemployed. I only get paid now and again to do pictures for people. What would you ideally like to do for work? I'd love if I could just be a photographer. What are you doing in order to achieve this? Practice and shoving my extreme discomfort about it aside and trying to promote myself where possible and not in an overbearing manner. What do you think is the worst being on the planet? "Rapists, pedophiles, abusive people in general." <<<< This. Anyone who disrespects the existence of other and equal people. Have you ever been arrested? If so, what for? No. How big an age gap is between you and your siblings? My immediate sisters and I are two years apart. My half-siblings, I don't know. I don't have their ages memorized, but I do know 5+ years, some even 10. Do/did your siblings cause trouble? Not really, we were good kids. What's your dream vehicle? I don't really have one. Are you good at taking care of your finances? What finances? And I don't mean that happily. What's your favorite comic strip? I don't have one. How many people have you texted today? Zero. Someone cheats. Second chance? Nope, byyyyeeeee. Thoughts on kids? Clay that I'm not playing with. Are you a risk taker? No. What are you listening to? I'm currently going through a phase of playing The Evil Within 2's theme nonstop, jc. Is/Was your high schools dress code strict? Not like, mega strict, but it still was overboard. No spaghetti strap shirts, and I even once got in trouble for wearing a floral mesh shirt, despite having a normal tanktop underneath it. It was weird, like no one had ever had a problem with it before, it was just this one teacher that I passed in the hall. Who was the last person to request you on a social media network - and did you accept? Someone I didn't know, so obviously not. Who was the last person’s vehicle that you rode in? Mom's. Who was the last person to make you laugh or smile, and why? Another current obsession of mine: John Wolfe, another let's player who I think is super funny. He said something that made me snicker before I turned on music and started this. Who was the last person that you took a photo with? My half-sister while she was visiting. Who was the last person to pay you a compliment, and what did they say? In group therapy the other day, one of the other women told me that even if I don't believe it, I bring so much positivity to group and she was really happy to be there while I am. I was so so super flustered but flattered, too. Who’s the last person that you visited in the hospital? My mom, following her surgery. Who is the last person that you lent money to? Actually today to Mom. What was the last food that you ate? I warmed up a burger for dinner. What did the last pair of footwear that you wore look like? They're just black flipflops. What was the last kind of bread that you ate? Just plain white bread. What was the last app that you downloaded to your phone? Oh wow, I never do this. I want to say it was a game for my niece. When was your last work shift? I haven't worked in a long time, so idk. When is the last time that you had trouble falling asleep? This is literally every single night. When was the last time you saw a significant other? I ain't got one'a those. When’s the last time that you took a risk? What was the risk? Well, I did say I'm not a risk-taker... Where was the last place that you went on vacation to? You know, how long does it have to be to be considered a "vacation?" I would say not since I went to the beach with an old friend, but it was literally a day. Where was the last place you got lost? uhhhhhhh Why did your last relationship fail? We need to work on ourselves before we could properly support each other and stay in a healthy mindset. Why did you leave your last job? I couldn't handle the stress of serving people and having so many responsibilities at once. How long has it been since you last visited a doctor? How about a dentist? I literally went to the doctor today because I had a follow-up appointment about my weight gain again. I haven't been to the dentist in a few months; I had a normal cleaning my last visit. How big was the last fish you caught? Oh boy, this is stretching years back. It was probably something small, idr at all. Give me the first initial of your last name? D. Something in your home that’s on its last leg(s)? We just moved here, so nothing that's a part of the house itself. As far as items we actually own, idk. Where do you purchase most of your clothes? I haven't gotten new clothes in so long, idk. I would probably say Hot Topic. Describe your skincare routine. I don't have one, if I'm being honest. I just shower. What’s your typical morning routine look like? I don't have one of those, either. The only thing that's consistent is going to the bathroom, eating, and taking my meds. Even brushing my teeth, the time of day when I do that (if I'm not leaving the house) varies. Then it's time to just binge stuff on YouTube and do whatever on the laptop... Are you still playing Animal Crossing? I've never played it, actually. How has the pandemic specifically affected you? It's caused a lot of stress worrying about my mom falling ill, given her being immunocompromised. It's also held me back from searching for another job (even though I don't know what I'd go for, anyway...), because I absolutely refuse to risk bringing Covid into this house by leaving it daily or whatever. What is your main source of anxiety? Being mentally ill, really. It just affects a lot. Any bands or artists you’ve recently discovered? Not very recently, no. What kind of games do you play on your phone? Just Pokemon GO nowadays. Do you have a specific aesthetic? It varies. I love dark, gothic, and gory stuff, but then I also love everything pink and pastel?????? Pastel gore is especially where it's at. Describe the moment you realized you were falling in love with someone. I'd rather not. What’s your favorite sparkling water brand/flavor? I've never even tried it before. What’s your favorite makeup brand/brands? I don't wear nearly enough makeup to be even remotely familiar with any. What’s your all-time favorite movie? It'll probably always be The Lion King. Do you have any subscription boxes? No, but they're cool. What fictional creature would you like as a pet? On deviantART today I actually discovered a fantastic artist who does a lot of HTTYD fanart, and I would say as a dragon lover, Toothless would be soooo great. Have any local businesses closed that you’re sad about? I'm certain tons have closed, but none come to mind. How do you feel about TikTok? I don't feel anything about it. Did you/do you still have a Neopets account? Haha I've had like... two or three at different stages in my life. What were you doing at 9 o'clock this morning? That's actually when (virtual) group therapy starts. Are you wearing any jewelry? Yeah; my piercings (if you count them) and then two rings that I always have on. Are you good at hiding disappointment? No. I'm bad at hiding my emotions because they're so strong. What happened the last time you cried? lmaooo I was finishing watching a The Evil Within 2 LP yesterday, and like, the last hour or so of the game just rips me apart. I was hoping so bad that my mom didn't pass by and ask what the problem was. What would your parents be surprised to learn about you? Both would be stunned to know the situation I had with Joel/my former best friend's boyfriend when I was around 12. What fictional character do you have the biggest crush on? dARKIPLIER Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world? When all things are considered, like laws, seeing family, etc., somewhere in Canada, or maybe Alaska. Actually, Alaska would be really cool. What after school activities did you do in high school? I didn't have any, if you mean like, school sports and clubs. I did do dance once or twice a week, but it wasn't tied to my school. What’s the last book you really loved? I positively adored The Handmaid's Tale. If you could have been a child prodigy what would you have wanted to be skilled at? My writing was seen as very exceptional for my age as a kid, but it still would've been awesome if it was even better. If earth could only have one condiment for the rest of time, what would you pick to keep around? Uhhh I guess ketchup. I use that the most of all options. What is the scariest experience you have ever had? The night of the breakup. It was such an impossible concept to me that I genuinely thought my life was over, that I'd pull the plug at any moment. Who is a non-politician you wish would run for office? Oh, hunny, Markiplier lmao. Call it a bias all ya want, but he's just a genuinely incredible person that cares so much for everyone and is so serious about equality and just being a good person. Do you think it’s important to stay up to date with the news? It's very hypocritical of me to say, but yes, regardless. Do you own plants? If so, what kind of plants? If not, would you like to grow any? I've never been into growing plants, honestly. Is there a city that you have a particular fondness for? If so, what city is it and why? No, not really. When was the last time that you acted impulsively? Is this a common behavior for you? I dunno, I've gotten better at this. I probably said something I shouldn't have. If you received an allowance as a kid, what kinds of things would you buy with it? Were you more the type to save up for something big, or spend it on little things? I didn't get one. When you cuddle with someone, how do you prefer to position yourself? Would you rather be held, or do the holding? Or both? Are we sitting or lying down? Either way I think I have a tendency to lay my head on their chest while hugging them, and my legs generally curl up. If I'm upset, I definitely feel better and just a greater sense of safety if I'm the one being held, but if the roles are swapped, then I like to be the one doing the holding because I know that's what I want when I'm upset, so treat others how you wanna be treated, y'know. When you woke up today, did you find unread messages from anyone? No. Have you recently told anyone that you miss them? Yes. Can you recall the last time you turned down an offer, of any kind? Mom asked if I wanted to come with her to Ashley's a few days ago, but I said no. I wasn't in a social mood at all. Is there anyone you interact with every day on social media? No. What was the main character's name in the last fictional book you read? Sunny. Have you ever been rejected by a church? No. Is your family nice to you? Yeah. Are you comfortable with your gender? Yeah. What was your favorite Mary-Kate and Ashley film? I don't remember; we had a couple, though. What was your favorite book you had to read for school? The Outsiders. What was your favorite Nickelodeon show? ngl, I don't remember a lot of them and don't feel like looking up a list. Do you still live in the house you grew up in? No. Which Spice Girl was your favorite? I don't remember their names. Do you think you look the best you've ever looked? Oh hell no. Have you been hurt by religion? Yes, honestly. In Truth or Dare, would you rather choose Truth or Dare? I always choose "truth." Have you ever had more than one crush at once? Yeah, I think that's perfectly normal to feel, even for someone monogamous like myself. Just when you establish a relationship, then it's time to make a choice. What social issue do you care about most? This is hard to say with how passionately I hold my opinions, but probably LGBTQ+ rights. It's just... so disgusting to me that I was once homophobic. It's like I want to make up for it. Just the idea of being repulsed by love just because someone has "the wrong thing" in their pants is just... appalling. When was the last time you read a Bible? Many, maaaany years ago I started reading it, but I didn't get very far at all. Do you own a Bible? I personally don't, but I know Mom has one, maybe multiple. Do you discover new music regularly? No; I very much stick to what I know. It's great when I do, though, given that that's how I find new songs to repeat to the grave. What does your first name mean? "Of Britain" or something like that. What country do you live in? U.S.A. Do you believe that gays are born that way? Uh, yes? Who honestly believes a homosexual would *choose* to be in the discriminated minority? People are murdered and abused for simply their sexuality; no sane person would "choose" to risk that torture.

Dealing with Quarantine (from an actual expert)
Hello!
Today’s post is for people who are having their first taste of isolation or quarantine and are feeling a bit overwhelmed.
There’s a lot of these going around, and although they can be useful (I have no idea about specific Corona-based medical practise or finance) they seem to be written by people who are generally out and about in the world.
Tumblr media
No offence, but what you really need is a Professional. You need… A HOUSEBOUND PERSON!
And that’s where I come in.
For those of you that are new here, I have a condition where, amongst other things, my body doesn’t create energy like it should. My mitochondria are all messed up, so, as you can imagine, that has an impact on… everything.
I am too exhausted to leave the house, or sometimes my bed. So I’ve been cared for by my lovely family for seven and a half years, and have been housebound for the last five and a half.
By now, I’m an old hand at this, so I’ll be able to help you out with some of the lesser known issues that people without that half a decade of experience just can’t tell you.
Some of this may seem strange or contradictory in places, but I don’t make the rules. This is how it is.
Choice makes a difference
You’re probably learning (or about to learn) that the one thing that makes a difference as to whether doing something or not is fun is Choice.
The number of times I’ve had someone say to me “it must be so nice to be at home all the time” is ridiculous.
The person saying it is thinking of the fun type of staying at home, where you decide to have a duvet day and watch movies and eat toast in your pants.
But now people are being faced with the less fun kind. The kind where you can’t leave.
Staying at home because you want to… fun. Staying at home because of Doom Plague Potential… not fun. (Also, bagsy “Doom Plague Potential” as a band name.)
Its tough being uncertain when you’re going to see people, do things or get on with your life, but…
If you think about it, you are making a choice. You’re making the choice to put your health first. That’s sensible.
And if you’re careful with others who are more at risk then you’re making the choice to be kind. That’s even better.
You can do it
I’m not even meaning this in an inspirational quote sense, you can actually do this. It may be tricky, but if I can last half a decade in my house, you can last a couple of weeks, or even a couple of months.
If you’re actually sick then make sure you have people who can check up on you via the internet or phone if not in person. Seek medical attention where necessary.
Otherwise…
The Internet exists - embrace it
All that “put down your phone and live in the REAL WORLD” stuff is about to become a load of cobblers.
You will feel lonely, the Internet is a great tool to prevent that, so embrace it.
Group chats, social media, and video chats make a MASSIVE difference in the lives of people stuck at home, so utilise that.
Even when you’re watching tv, have a group chat of mates watching the same thing and talk about it as if you’re all there together. Because you are... kind of.
You can also contact plenty of mental healthcare professionals over the internet (or phone) if you feel that’s something you need. Don’t be afraid to reach out. There are people available.
The Internet isn’t real
At the same time as the internet being an amazing tool and opportunity for social interaction, it’s important to remember that it’s not a complete experience of the world.
It seems obvious when you’re able to leave the house, but it will quickly become clear that things start to feel a bit more skewed without the regular interaction of polite (or not so polite) strangers in everyday life.
Things will seem more polarised and polarising, and specific, potentially small things may seem extremely important. That’s normal, just... bear it in mind and take a deep breath before reacting to things.
TV, Radio, Things to do!
If you, unlike me, are at home as a precautionary measure instead of long term health condition you can probably do things. Hooray!
Right now that is less than you're used to, and BELIEVE ME I know that feel, bro, but you can still do things and that’s wonderful.
Imagining a lengthy period where you’re stuck at home sounds awful, but imagine it without TV, books or the internet. Or crafts. Or DIY. Or the ability to clean your clothes or yourself.
I’m trying really hard not to play the “be grateful” card here, because people have said it to me despite me struggling (or being completely unable) to do any of those things and it made me want to bite them. But also... you can likely do those things. So maybe this is the point where all those trite inspiration memes come in handy and you can embrace the things you can do.
Unless you are sick, in which case, for the love of all that is holy, do not do the things.
Stay in bed. Drink fluids. Have people check in on you as safely as possible. Resist the urge to get up and make your body fight harder than it is, because that will not help you.
Trust me, despite all those “you can do anything if you BELIEVE” quotes, it’s not strong or clever to push your body when it’s struggling. You will just use up energy your body could be using to heal you. Take it from the sick person.
Stay in bed till you feel better, and then a bit longer, just to make sure.
And resist the urge to go out in public and rub your germy self onto various surfaces.
You will come to love your Postie/Courier.
Oh, those kind humans who strive through wind and gale to bring us parcels and food, and most importantly, contact with the outside world.
A face! A new face! Possibly some small talk. You never knew that was a thing you could miss before this moment.
Will you potentially feel the need to disinfect everything you get in the post? Possibly. Will you be ever so glad to see someone who doesn’t live in your house or flat? Most definitely.
They must be protected for they are the keepers of the parcels.
Time will lose all meaning.
The only thing I can reliably liken it to is that weird week between Christmas and New Year where you don’t know what day, time or year it is. Or why you’re covered in biscuit crumbs.
If you don’t celebrate these events and have have no prior experience in this weird time warp... I’m sorry. Things are about to get real.
I genuinely forget my own age at this point.
Keep to a regular schedule.
You’re going to re-enter the world at some point but that’s going to be difficult if your schedule is all messed up.
Keeping to a normal(ish) schedule will also mean you’re more likely to sleep better, which will be handy if you do actually get sick.
If you’re going to be working from home then you’re probably going to have to use alarms to get you to do anything because otherwise you will look up and it’s three in the afternoon, you’ve done nothing and you’re still in your jim-jams.
(To be fair, if you want to work in your jim-jams that’s a totally valid choice.)
Try to stick to specific working hours if you can. It’s much easier to switch off your mind from work worries when you’ve got commute time in the middle, so having set hours or a signal to yourself (like changing clothes) that the work day is over will help you wind down a bit easier. I remember that much from my healthy freelance days.
Exercise?
I imagine that if you’re housebound without being sick you’re probably going to have a ton of pent up energy.
I’ll admit I’m completely guessing here, because energy is quite literally what my body is rubbish at producing so exercising makes me worse, which is why I’m stuck in my house unable to do anything in the first place.
Looking back at those heady years before I got sick, however, I would get pretty restless being stuck inside during that weird post-Christmas week, so it’s probably good to try and exercise some of that off.
Stretches, yoga, kick a football about in the garden. Whatever floats your boat.
You’ll probably sleep better and it’s good for releasing endorphins too.
Again, if you’re sick, don’t do this. Just don’t. Coronavirus targets your respiratory system so nobody wants you to be doing star jumps like a muppet. Go lie down.
Touch withdrawal
If you live on your own, or even if people inside your house are avoiding contact to prevent potential contamination you may experience mild touch withdrawal. I don’t know if that’s an official term, but that’s what I’m calling it.
You can counter this with:
Blankets, duvets, or weighted blankets
There’s a reason people are given shock blankets after trauma, and that’s to simulate a hug and release the associated endorphins. Having a blanket, duvet or weighted blanket around you will do that same thing.
Pets
Having access to a furry (or scaly or feathered) friend will help with loneliness and touch withdrawal. A lot of them will be loving the chance to spend more time with you.
ASMR
I’ve had people tell me that ASMR videos help them with loneliness and touch withdrawal.
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is basically a tingly feeling of calm and being cared for that a person can experience when watching or listening to certain triggers.
YouTube is full of people tapping on bottles and turning books pages, and it can be really useful.
I was a bit dubious to begin with, but honestly the ones where the person pretends to cut your hair make me into a giant pile of goop.
Not the same as long term isolation
This is going to pass. You will be able to leave the house again, and it will be relatively soon.
When it does, please be respectful of those who are still here.
Yes, a two week quarantine might give you a tiny glimpse into what it’s like to be housebound, but it won’t make you an expert in long term isolation due to illness or disability. That’s a whole other ball game.
Please do not equate the two, because it honestly feels a randomer in a bar who has spent two minutes thinking on a topic telling you about something you have a doctorate in.
Coronavirus is scary, and quarantine or self-isolation is not something you’re used to but it is temporary.
Finally
If disabled or sick people are getting salty on the internet it’s because they have reason to be.
A lot of us have been stuck like this for years or even decades, and many of the options that would make things much more accessible for us have only magically become possible now there’s a threat to the general, abled population.
It doesn’t help that lots of people are trotting out the old “it’s only the old and sick who are in danger”. Thanks for that, mate. So glad that it’s only us sickies (and oldies) who might die and not the important, useful people that are in danger.
Many of us do not have that light at the end of the tunnel when we can leave the house and just get on with our lives. I have no idea when or if I will be able to rejoin society fully, or even partly. And I just have to get on with it.
So take this opportunity to be a little more mindful of those people.
I do hope this helps people who are nervous about being isolated. Keep calm. It will be alright.

(6-20-20) You both like conversation.
You: hi
Stranger: Hey
You: anything on your mind?
Stranger: Blank slate over here
Stranger: Very zen
Stranger: Tabula rasa
You: that's nice
You: I've been thinking about my self-esteem
Stranger: How high it is?
You: mhm right now it's kind of on the low side
Stranger: Ooof
Stranger: Everyone has those moments
You: so on omegle I often go to the #politics tag
You: and I often get called dumb
You: and I'm reflecting on that i think
Stranger: Talking politics online is a mistake
You: mhm ^^ yeah it's poor judgement
Stranger: Yeaaa
Stranger: How old are you?
You: 26
You: I like to find strongly opinionated people
You: and talk to them
You: because I want to understand them
Stranger: People who talk politics online arent here to come to an understanding
You: but I think in part through the way I talk, I end up getting called dumb a lot
You: mhm
Stranger: Welp, calling someone dumb isnt cool
You: yeah a lot of them are mean
You: but I want to know why they're angry
Stranger: Read books or articles
You: mhm I guess
Stranger: Not random internet weirdos opinions
You: I feel like I'm just skeptical when I read books/articles by professors or whichever about "white rage" or things like that
You: so I think it's valuable to talk to people from places where I've never been to
Stranger: People have trouble articulating thoughts and opinions, especially with topics that make them angry
You: mhm
You: I try to ask them about what their life is like
You: and things they care about aside from the hot button issues
Stranger: Truu
You: A lot of them are just really mean though
Stranger: Welcome to the internet
You: yeah
You: anyway enough about me

You: I think I just remember people talking about fasting
Stranger: Mhmm
Stranger: They fast and avoid water during the day
You: mhm
You: I think lent interests me because I had a lot friends who would be like "I'm giving up chocolate"
You: or something random or specific
Stranger: Truue
You: it made me think about what I would give up, if I were to give something up
Stranger: Depends what the goal is right

You: mhm
You: umm

You: mhmm
Stranger: Social media?
You: I hardly use social media haha
You: I went vegetarian for year and a half in college just because

Stranger: That can be difficult
You: idk I didn't really have a sophisiticated reason for it
Stranger: I was vegetarian for four years
You: ohhh cool
You: why were you vegetarian?
Stranger: Ethical reasons
You: mhm
Stranger: I didnt like the meat supply chain and resources used for it
You: right
You: for me I had a bad break up and just spontaneously and randomly decided I didn't want to eat meat
Stranger: I'm the opposite of you, i stopped being vegetarian when i went to college
Stranger: Ohhh, yeah breakups suck
You: was there a reason why you stopped?
Stranger: It was difficult being vegetarian on dorm, i said i would return once i was done
You: ahh
Stranger: But i started getting really into fitness
Stranger: Hard to hit the macros with a vegetarian diet
You: right
Stranger: Why'd you stop being vegetarian?
You: mhm... I think I just stopped being vegetarian randomly
You: ...it's probably not very sophisticasted either
You: I've thought about it once or twice why I ended up vegetarian
Stranger: i feel like its appropriate, randomly stop what you randomly started
You: I guess I must have treated it like how ppl sometimes get a haircut after a breakup
You: like I think I wanted a different feeling to my life
Stranger: I didnt know that was a thing lol
You: ohh yeah like it's a stereotype
Stranger: I know about delete facebook and hit the gym
You: haha
Stranger: Didya get a fancy new doo?
You: no not really
Stranger: Rip, you had the perfect excuse to experiment
You: yeah it's true
You: I wanted to dye my hair in college
You: but never got the courage for it
You: and then towards the end, I was worried about jobs after graduating
Stranger: You play it real safe
You: yeah I do haha

Stranger: And if it goes bad its fun to joke about
You: oh haha
You: I get self-conscious easily
Stranger: Yeah i get it
You: a lot of times I convince myself that a lot of peers secretly hate me
Stranger: Ooof, i've done that too
You: I think I need to be friendlier
Stranger: Also imposter syndrome
You: but I'm a huge introvert
Stranger: Mhmmm
You: and yeah imposter syndrome
Stranger: It can be hard to put yourself out there
Stranger: What did you go to college for?
You: biology
Stranger: fancy
You: it's like one of the most common majors lol
Stranger: Lol
Stranger: Did you like it?
You: mhm I liked it enough
Stranger: Thats dope
You: what about you?
Stranger: Finance and accounting
You: oh wow
Stranger: I was actually a biomed major before switching
You: ahh
Stranger: Hated itt
You: I know nothing about finance and accounting haha
Stranger: Especially labs
Stranger: Ughh
You: yeah labs are terrible
Stranger: "I know nothing about finance and accounting haha" Sometimes i feel that way too

Stranger: People usually say i have a bristly personality
You: really?
You: I think you have an active and engaging personality
You: but also very nice
Stranger: I like poking funnnnn
You: and the active personality gives the perception that you're really listening
You: which matters a lot
Stranger: I'm a good listener i feel like
You: mhm, you seem like one
Stranger: You're pretty chill too
You: thanks ^^
Stranger: Despite fighting politics online
You: lol I don't fightttt
Stranger: Despite trying to bridge the political divide online
You: that sounds terrible lol
Stranger: It is
Stranger: The internet kinda sucks with politics lol
You: mhm
You: I feel like it's hard to have deep conversations irl
Stranger: Depends
Stranger: Some people are more receptive than others
You: mhm true
Stranger: I get online its easier to be yourself, but its also easier to be an asshole
You: mhm true
You: I think I worry a lot about interpersonal relationships irl
Stranger: How so?
You: mhm, like there's a group dynamic I guess?
Stranger: Ohhh
Stranger: So where are you from?
Stranger: Did i ask that already?
You: and the there's work colleagues
You: nope
You: new england somewhere
Stranger: myseriousss
Stranger: Are you lost?
You: new england is small enough it could be like a state if you put it all together haha
Stranger: Go pats
Stranger: With that i exhausted my sports knowledge
You: lol I'm not very knowledgeable either
You: although we hold football watching parties at my house
Stranger: I know people hate the patriots
Stranger: Because they dont inflate their balls or something
You: huuh, see I have no idea what that means
Stranger: Not cool new england, inflate them please
You: lol
Stranger: Wow, you're worst than me
You: yup!
You: I'm also bad with tv shows, movies, and music
You: basically it's hopeless if you want to have a normal conversation with me
Stranger: Im listening to music right now lol
You: lol
Stranger: I love talking about all those topics
Stranger: But i can talk about anything tbh
You: I just don't know anything ^^
You: what do you listen to?
Stranger: Like right now or in general?
You: either
Stranger: Pick one so i can start
You: general!

Stranger: I loveeee
Stranger: Folk music
Stranger: Blue grass
Stranger: R&B
Stranger: Motown
Stranger: Soul
Stranger: Rap
You: cool
Stranger: Thanks
You: I have no idea what blue grass is haha
Stranger: Should i ask what you listen to lol?

Stranger: Wise
You: basically pop bc I don't know anything else lol
Stranger: Lol thats fine
Stranger: Pop is fun
You: where are you from?
Stranger: Canada

Stranger: Want me to recommend a song?
You: yeah that would be nice
You: I found Wanderlust 🌲 - An Indie/Folk/Pop Playlist | Vol. I
You: because I guess I automatically go to playlists lol
Stranger: always alright- alabama shakes
Stranger: Lol, playlists are a good way to discover music imo
You: I often don't go back to figure out what songs are what though
You: this was my problem with the radio
You: I recognized songs
You: but had no idea who the artists or songs were
Stranger: I do that with albums when i listen to them cover to cover
Stranger: I never know the song names, just how they go
You: mhm
Stranger: So what area if your phd in?
Stranger: Is that too personal to ask?
You: immunology
Stranger: fancyy
You: it always sounds fancy, but I have no clue what I'm doing
Stranger: Give me some fire immunology facts
Stranger: Loool
Stranger: Ohh
You: uhhhhh
You: random facts uhh idk
Stranger: Lol its ok
You: lol kay haha
Stranger: I kinda put you on the spot
You: mhm it's fine, although I was racing in my head to find something that actually makes sense lol
Stranger: Sorry im so dumb : (
You: no, as in immunology seriously doesn't make sense
You: like it's basically jibberish
Stranger: Lol i get alot of it would go over my head, im just kidding
You: like CD45RA+ AB T cells
Stranger: BRAH
Stranger: Thats my favorite cell
You: lol
Stranger: I like how they
Stranger: Multiply
You: lol
Stranger: coolest ribosomes in the game
You: you're so chill
Stranger: I know
Stranger: My cell knowledge is sublime
You: lol
You: is there a reason why you like to come on omegle?
Stranger: Uhhh, i like talking to people
Stranger: So the quarantine kinda sucks for me
You: mhm
You: I forgot it was the quarantine
You: I was just thinking it's a friday night and you seem too cool for omegle on a friday haha
Stranger: Lolllll
Stranger: Trust me, im a massive dork
Stranger: Just a pretty social one
You: right
Stranger: Recommend me a song?
You: ohhhh so tough again
Stranger: Im not letting you off the hook this time
You: :c
Stranger: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You: *goes to dig through youtube history*
Stranger: Lol fair enough
You: do links work on omegle?
You: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0OX-a17Hfk
Stranger: idk
Stranger: Did you send one?
You: yeah I did
Stranger: Naww lol
Stranger: Just tell me title and artist
You: v=W0OX-a17Hfk
Stranger: That works too
You: it's entirely instrumental
You: idk most of the stuff I listen to is just background music
You: for when I'm doing something
Stranger: I feel that, i listen to stuff without lyrics when im working too
Stranger: I like the art work
You: but yeah, I don't have much of a sophisticated taste in music or anything
Stranger: Dont worry, no music degree on the wall here
Stranger: I just know if i like something or dont
You: mhm it feels like most people have a strong sense of what they like an dislike ^^
You: for me it's kind of uhh... blank haha
Stranger: Lol
Stranger: I'll listen to any genre if i like the song
Stranger: This musics chill, i like it
Stranger: Reminds me of harvest moon
Stranger: Used to play as a kid
You: ohh
You: I've never played
You: I did briefly play rune factory on an emulator
You: but otherwise yeah I don't have a long list of games either ^^
You: I think I'm kind of boring overall
Stranger: lol you're not boring
Stranger: I wouldnt be talking to you if you were
You: oh lol
You: thanks
Stranger: Noo problem
Stranger: I'm kinda glad i found someone around my age to talk to tbh
You: ohh I forgot that I told you my age lol
You: do you normally get ppl much younger?
Stranger: I dont go here often tbh
Stranger: But yeah, alot of young people
You: mhm
You: I feel like you're probably the most normal person I've gotten in a while
Stranger: Lol im glad
Stranger: What do you usually get?
You: mhm angry people
Stranger: Also the political tag probably skewed your sample
You: a lot of people trolling or just having fun some way
Stranger: I seriously dont get the fun in trying to upset people
You: yeah I've been trying to understand that too
Stranger: Modern bullying i guess
Stranger: idk
You: like it doesn't work to ask "why do you like to be mean"
You: so I will continue with my research!
Stranger: Lol plz dont for your own sake
You: lol
You: haha
Stranger: Put the scientific method to bed
You: lol
Stranger: Do you know reddit?
You: yup
Stranger: Ask me anything
You: the subreddit?
Stranger: Naw, im doing an ama
You: ohhh
Stranger: You're the only one attending
You: lol
You: okay, I hope you don't mind if I push the pedal then
You: what do you regret most?
You: (I ask heavy stuff often lol >.<)
Stranger: Loll
Stranger: I felt like i should have ended my last relationship sooner than i did
You: mhm why?
Stranger: I was just kinda hoping the problems would get resolved
Stranger: And that kinda lead me to hold on
You: what kind of problems?
Stranger: Drawing the line here lol, i dont wanna be sad all day
You: ahh okay sorry lol
You: yeah I'm really nosy
Stranger: Lol its okk, i just dont wanna dwell in it
You: how long ago did you break up?
Stranger: How about you, whats your biggest regret?
Stranger: Few months ago
You: ohh
You: (I hope you're okay)
Stranger: I'm getting there
You: for me...
You: I guess not asking for help when I needed it
You: I don't have many regrets though
Stranger: Mhmm
Stranger: I never asked for help growing up
You: mhm I'm the same
You: or at least, I'm still really bad at asking for help
Stranger: I didnt wanna bother people, kinda just dealt with it on my own
Stranger: Yeahhh, its hard
You: right
You: and like I have a stupid amount of useless pride for something not important
Stranger: Sometimes i just try to remember that people do want to help alot of the time
Stranger: Oh truue
You: mhm right
Stranger: I also dont like looking dumb lol
You: yeah haha
You: okay for the next AMA: Make a confession of some kind that you don't ordinarily tell people
You: (though I guess this isn't a question)
Stranger: More like a demand
You: lol
You: clearly I'm not in the habit of doing ama's
Stranger: So like im pretty healthy and take care of myself alot
Stranger: And i come across as super confident
Stranger: But im like pretty insecure about my looks
You: mhm
Stranger: Like im pretty critical to myself
You: yeah we're often our own worst critics, right?
Stranger: Yeahhh
Stranger: How about you?
You: ohh
You: umm, how bad do I want to go lol?
Stranger: Lol, your call
You: I think I use omegle to boost my ego. Like I'm not interested in hooking up with anyone, but when people express interest in me it boosts my ego and then I can ditch them
You: >.>
Stranger: Ooof
You: was that heavy one?
Stranger: Lol no, i get it
Stranger: Im just preparing to be disconnected on lol
You: ohh I don't usually dc at all haha
Stranger: Mhmmm
Stranger: Well i think you're pretty cool tbh, take these ego points
You: oh haha
You: idk I think I'm selfish in a lot of various ways
Stranger: I feel like being able to refelct on it is like a good way to begin to address it
Stranger: Some people lives their entire lives without realizing what drives what they do
You: mhm
You: next AMA: What's something you dream of doing?
Stranger: A thru hike
You: thru hike?
Stranger: Its like a long hike that takes weeks or months
You: ahh wow that seems cool
Stranger: It isss, ive been on multiple day hikes
You: mhm I want to do one!
Stranger: But a thru hike would be amazing
Stranger: You can tag along lol
You: I have no idea how you would prepare for one haha
You: lol
Stranger: Lol
Stranger: You know how some people randomly plan holidays or online shop
Stranger: Just to waste time
You: mhm
Stranger: I plan thru hikes and my gear and food list sometimes lol
Stranger: Its pretty dorky
You: I think it's cool
You: wait so for a multi-day hike, how is that planned?
You: like do you usually go with someone?
Stranger: Solo or people
Stranger: I started going solo because its kind of hard to get people to come along
You: what do you pack?
Stranger: And being alone in the wilderness is kind of amazing
You: mhmm
Stranger: Pack alottt of stuff lol
You: lol
Stranger: I subscribe to the ultralight philosophy of hiking
You: mhhhm
Stranger: Where you try to keep gear minimal and light
Stranger: So you can go long distances and bee less tired
You: right
You: what do you see as essential?
Stranger: Tent
Stranger: Sleeping bag or quilt
Stranger: you're so lucky you're american
Stranger: You have better access to gear than i do lol
Stranger: Sleeping pad
Stranger: Backpack
You: really? for some reason I feel like canada has the outdoorsy stereotype haha
Stranger: Its legit amazing here nature wise
Stranger: Just harder and more expensive to get some gear lol
You: mhm
You: how much water/food do you pack?
Stranger: 2000 cals a day usually
Stranger: and i keep filtration tablets on me
Stranger: So i can reup on water
You: mhmm do you usually reup water?
You: I can see water getting a lot
Stranger: Streams usually
You: to carry
Stranger: Dont carry a ton, just reup on water
You: mhm
Stranger: being in nature is fun
Stranger: It feels like a reset for the brain sometimes
You: right totally
You: so do you usually pick hikes with nearby streams/water?
Stranger: Well there are usually trails people do
Stranger: Some people plan their own using a topical map
Stranger: I dontt
You: ah
Stranger: Topographic*
Stranger: Idk what topical is
You: on the surface of something ^^
Stranger: Lol oh
You: I guess it would just make sense to go a visitors center and ask for recommendations
Stranger: Naww, i usually just research it online
Stranger: I rambled a ton my bad lol
You: oh not at all
Stranger: What's something you dream of doing?
You: mhm I want to be lazy and copy yours lol
You: but I guess it's probably something vacation related
Stranger: The more the merrier
You: I'm super bad at planning
You: or more specifically, I procrastinate forever
You: so I don't plan vacations normally lol
Stranger: Loll
Stranger: I kinda like to wing it with a general idea of what i want to do
Stranger: I like exploring cities
Stranger: Where do you want to vacation?
You: ahh
You: mhmm I dunno lol
You: I so bad at being decisive lol
You: I do like outdoorsy things though
You: less so cities
You: I've never been clubbing or anything like that and I don't think I'd want to lol
You: I also don't drink very much
Stranger: Its overrated
Stranger: Im more outdoorsy too
Stranger: BUTTT
Stranger: Im a foodie
You: ohh
Stranger: and love stuffing my face when i visit a city
You: mhm that's cool
You: I think I like food until it gets too expensive
You: and then my heart sinks too much to enjoy it
Stranger: Brah fuck tourist traps
Stranger: I want hole in the wall joints
You: mhm those are great ^^
Stranger: Montreal is legit my favorite city
You: mhm montreal is great!
Stranger: Have you been?
You: yup!
Stranger: yessss!
Stranger: Have you tried the bagels lol
You: I think so
Stranger: Ughhh so good
You: ahhh yeah
Stranger: I bought two bags to bring back home lol
You: yeah I remember it now that I've googled it
You: they're fantastic
Stranger: Yeahhh
Stranger: Best souvlaki i ate was in montreal
You: ohh
You: I didn't know that was a huge thing there
Stranger: Idk if it is tbh
Stranger: But the place i went was fire
Stranger: Hard af to order tbh though lol
Stranger: They didnt speak english or much french
You: ohh interesting
Stranger: My cousin told me usually their daughter works the counter
Stranger: Im guessing thats why lol
You: lol
You: I took french in high school
You: but I forgot it all
Stranger: Welcome to the club
You: mh, it's kind of disappointing in a way
Stranger: Can always brush up on it
You: very true
Stranger: Do you know any other languages?
You: Chinese
Stranger: Mandarin or Cantonese?
You: mandarin
Stranger: Nicee
You: you?
Stranger: I can understand some hindi?
Stranger: Cant really speak much
You: ohh cool!
Stranger: Lol thanks
You: I can also understand better than I can speak
You: although my accent is okay
Stranger: First generation eh
You: mhm
You: uhh I mix up the generations
Stranger: Mhmm
You: I'm second generation
Stranger: Ohhh ok
Stranger: yeah i dont get generations either
Stranger: That means you're born here but your parents arent?
You: yup
Stranger: Ohhh, same then
You: I can never remember if that's first or second generation
Stranger: Preachh
Stranger: Alrii, hit me with another ama
You: mhm
You: let's seeee
You: bah I just thought one but it's basically the same lol
Stranger: Loll

You: sure
Stranger: OOff lemme think
You: looool
Stranger: lol
Stranger: Uhhhh
Stranger: Celeb crush lol?
You: ohh
Stranger: Sorry, i was struggling
You: no it's fine

Stranger: Ooof i forgot
Stranger: Lemme think of another then
You: can I cheat and steal your question lol?
Stranger: Lol
Stranger: Nuhh uhhh, if you dont answer it

Stranger: Study, tv, games
Stranger: I legit sucked in highschool
You: hm sucked?
Stranger: Was super boring, didnt really like going out of my comfort zone
You: ahh
Stranger: What were you like in highscool?
You: I feel like I'm still bad at going out of my comfort zone
You: um, I was basically like the walking stereotype
You: swimming, piano, study, manga, writing
Stranger: Oof, i remember the manga kids lol
You: lol
You: that was mostly at home for me though
You: I read it when I was supposed to be studying
Stranger: We had a circle who hung out in the library
You: ohh
Stranger: I read a little of bit of a manga to try it
Stranger: I've watched some animes though way later on lol
You: mhmm
You: I never watched anime in high school because manga was much more discreet lol
You: I could read it on my computer without my parents knowing lol
Stranger: Loll
Stranger: tiger parents
You: mhm kind of yes and no
You: yours?
Stranger: They were pretty strict
Stranger: Moving away from them really allowed me to grow as a person
You: mhm same
Stranger: Sooo, what mangas did you read
You: ohh I read everything
You: like I was addicted lol
You: I read enough that I forgot what I read and the just all blur together lol
Stranger: Loll woww
Stranger: Do you read books?
You: yup!

Stranger: Like not dying?
Stranger: Love it
You: lol
You: I meant as a genre kinda (if that is a genre?)
Stranger: Oof idk, i dont think ive read survival
Stranger: Like man vs nature type of deal?
You: oh as kid I read hatchet and some other similar ones
You: yup
You: as for other genres, in high school when I was still reading a lot, I read a lot of fantasy and generic stereotypical trashy romance stuff
Stranger: Loll
You: oh and animals
Stranger: Like peppa pig?
You: I was the first one in my friend group to pick up twilight lolololol
Stranger: Lolll
Stranger: I never actually read the books or watched the movies
You: lol
Stranger: Do you recommend them?

You: I was nearly a furry lol
Stranger: Oh lawd
Stranger: Or actually
Stranger: oWO*
You: lol
You: I had a lot of really good memories from then
You: they're sort of like my defining experience on the Internet I think
Stranger: Thats cool
Stranger: A tight knit community can be nice
You: mhm, and it was actually writing, which was nice too
You: it was fun to sort of put characters and stories together
Stranger: Do you still write?
You: mhm super on and off
Stranger: Can iiiii
Stranger: Read it?
You: nope! XD
Stranger: Ughh
You: lol
Stranger: Worth a shot
You: I did nanowrimo freshman year of uni
Stranger: brah im canadian

Stranger: Ohhhh
Stranger: Thats cool af
You: yeah but the thing I wrote was total trash lol
Stranger: Can i read that?
You: lol absolutely not lol
Stranger: But i want to so badd
You: when you rush to write 50k words in a month, that's like 1666 words a day
You: so basically you vomit over the page
You: and like your subconscious shows up on it which can be really bad
You: like it's like bad fanfiction but even worse
Stranger: Damn
Stranger: Exposed your Id for the world to see
You: yeah lol
Stranger: Idk if im mixing up id ego andsuperego
Stranger: I dont remember which is which lol
You: I don't remember the difference between them either

You: ohh
Stranger: Whops
You: yeah...
Stranger: Thats not even that bad tbh lol

You: I'll pick a parents one
You: so in high school, I also drew on deviantart
Stranger: whats that
You: ohh it's like the art website
Stranger: ALSO IM LEARNING TO DRAW
You: deviantart is like one of the biggest art websites, or at least used to be?
Stranger: Waitt
Stranger: Is it that like sex drawing site?
You: mhm no?
Stranger: Lol okk...
Stranger: Go on
You: although I guess people do draw some nsfw things
You: anyway
You: so I had a friend on that site, who had really serious problems
You: he cut and wrote really bloody and graphic pobik
You: poems
You: and we would pm and message each other
You: and my parents found out
You: and then freaked out
You: because they thought I was going to elope
You: to denmark
Stranger: LMAO
You: which is where the guy was
Stranger: Did you?
You: we were like 16
You: lol no
You: and it wasn't romantic
Stranger: darn
Stranger: Still a chance

You: so like overnight I disappeared from the Internet
You: and I got really worried for him because basically I just disappeared one day
You: and like, he's not really stable you know?
Stranger: Mhmm yea
Stranger: Was he ok?
You: mhm like a year or two later he turned out okay
Stranger: Oohhh niceee
You: yeah
You: I only have one sad internet story

You: since we're kind of half capacity
You: and I've been doing a lot of 2-10pm ones
Stranger: Oh truuue
You: the other one is 6am-2pm lol
Stranger: I've just been staying up because i can do contract work whenever lol
Stranger: Oh wowww
You: mhm
You: well it's the easiest way to fit 8-hours twice in a day lol
Stranger: Lol yeahh
Stranger: So what hobbies you have?
Stranger: Do you still draw?
You: uhh they're almost the same as in high school
You: except I'm less active lol

Day 3 1.8.19
1st August 2019, supposedly our 2 year and 11th month together. Maybe it was not that simple, that you wanted to focus on your career. I guess you long felt we weren’t suitable- you just did not tell me. I wish you did, instead of giving me false hope by making me count the gifts and telling me we would get married when it reached number 13th. Or checking out the houses and making plans with me to apply for the BTO in November. Or even booking our trip which was supposed to be next week.
Anyway, yesterday was the day I felt true betrayal. It’s saddening cos it’s from someone I trusted, someone i looked up to and listened to for advice. I should have trusted my gut-feelings. Now thinking back, I did sense something was wrong as words always did not tally. But I decided to forgo that doubt and trust, believing that I should respect the elders, and trusting that she would not be wrong, since she was such a strong believer of God. Boy was I wrong, so what if she had constantly been using the words of Him, to teach, give advice and suggestions. Words have come back to me. I now know the rumours that have been gossiped about me. Super untrue events and characteristics about me have been talked about and spread around. Words about me being unemployed, words about me being clingy, words about me not helping out and not having a home to return to.
I have no words. I had been facing trouble connecting with the people at home, that is true. It was my foolishness to think that I could have found a better environment, a warmer home with delicious homecooked food. I tried to balance- maybe in other’s eyes I did not do enough. Maybe washing your car, spraying paint to cover the scratch marks, barbequing for the entire family and friends for 3 hours, baking for your and your brother;s birthday, going to church on events like baptism and christmas even though I’m a freethinker, praying for the ghost festival and trying my best to help despite being scolded by strangers, making a dish every single time for family pot luck, ordering clothes for all your siblings including you for new year, paying for medical herbs, going out last minute and visiting multiple despite being tired from work to find that one desired sweater for your brother, having to wash dishes despite having tons of work undone- was not enough. I was foolish to think I was accepted, that every word and invitation to your family events were genuine. I did not expect the fear of turning down invitations and the fear of appearing rude to be seen as “clingy” and that “I do not have a home”. My passion for children, my related job- I did not know that that was not seen as a job. I had been independent enough, not needing to seek help for my finances, neither did I have any debts that your family had to pay off for me. I feel unjust with all these untrue words said and spread about me.
Indeed, I am a clingy girlfriend. But if it can’t be accepted that my love for you is overflowing, 100% and pure. Despite all the flaws, all the fights, all the mistakes, I stayed by your side when you needed help. I complained and nagged a lot as I have difficulty managing my anxiety and worries. I love you, I want to see you- that simple. Just like how you used to find me at my workplace everyday. Why did you make that choice? Are you a clingy boyfriend? Maybe you are but I loved it that way. We were not fearful of how people looked at us. We were genuine about our love, not beating around the bush or playing games.
I guess all that changed. I just wonder how much of all these you knew, or even if you knew did you defend me? Or maybe you are tired of defending me. I just wish you opened your heart and not get so affected by the judgements of what people say about our relationship. I wish you weren’t so affected when people made sarcastic comments about us meeting often and having fun. Is not that what love is meant to be? Yes it can be serious- we did have our fair share of job drama and breakdowns, but I believe it’s also meant to be fun, it’s for us to make memories, visit new places. We shared the same vision about exploring while we were young. Yes, I pressured you about settling down, but that does not mean I did not want to have fun anymore. I believe we have the capacity to create work life balance. It did not have to be so extreme.
                     Our love was fearless.

How to Invest in Index Funds
Knowing how to invest in stocks is an important step you can take to achieve financial freedom. It’s a statement backed by TONS of research.
The best way to invest in stocks is through index funds. I am not the only one saying that. It’s also recommended by billionaire investors:
“When you look at the results on an after-fee, after-tax basis, over reasonably long periods of time, there’s almost no chance that you end up beating the index fund.” – David Swenson
“Both large and small investors should stick with low-cost index funds.” – Warren Buffet
What is an Index Fund and How Does It Work
Successfully choosing individual stocks is difficult. Even people who have studied them for all their lives find it tough and can’t beat the market. That’s where index funds come in.
They may seem boring, but they tick all the boxes that a good investment should have.
Lowest costs? Yes.
Maximum returns? Yes.
Minimum taxes? Yes.
No effort? Yes.
An index is quite simply a basket of securities within an asset.
For example, the S&P 500 is a collection of the 500 biggest companies in the US. It’s a common market benchmark that lots of investors try to match. If you were building a portfolio from scratch, you’d have to buy shares in all 500 companies in order to match the market. Or you could buy one share in an index fund which matches the market for you. You get all the benefits without any of the work. The same principle works across any index fund for different assets like US stocks, international stocks, bonds, real estate, and even commodities.
An index fund aims to mimic an index. The fund managers invest in securities in the same proportion as they are found in the market.
Index funds are passive in nature. Their fund managers don’t keep buying and selling stocks to “beat the market”. In fact, their objective is to be the market.
Even if a few stocks in an index don’t perform well, the others will protect your portfolio. An index fund lets you own the entire market. Yes, that’s right. By buying JUST ONE index fund, you can invest in ALL of America’s biggest companies.
On the other hand, in actively managed funds, money managers use their judgment to invest in stocks that they believe will grow the most. But, as you know, that’s a difficult job to do. That’s why index funds perform better than actively managed funds 90% of the time.
Index funds are low-cost because they don’t charge you for BS like the fund manager’s fee and admin costs. Their job is a lot easier. They don’t need to do a bunch of fancy analysis to beat the market, they simply follow the market wherever it goes. An average index fund costs less than 0.20%. In comparison, actively managed funds have an average cost of 0.60%. The high fees also lower your returns. Why would you pay a higher fee for a lower performance?
By buying expensive mutual funds, you are securing your financial advisor’s retirement, not yours. At the same time, constantly buying and selling stocks also increases taxes, lowering your returns further.
Because of all these reasons, I recommend putting 90% of your stock investments into index funds.
So which index funds should you buy?
The Best Index Funds to Choose From
There are hundreds of indexes across the world and even more index funds. But there’s a few standouts that you should consider.
I’ve broken the most popular options down by asset class:
US Stocks
Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares (VFIAX): This is my personal favorite. It tracks the S&P 500. Vanguard is the pioneer of index funds, and its founder, Jack Boggle, is a legendary American investor.
Expense ratio: 0.04% and Minimum Investment: $3,000.
The Schwab’s S&P 500 Index Fund (SWPPX) or the Fidelity 500 Index Fund (FXAIX) are also reputed funds. Both have no minimum investment requirements.
The Vanguard Total Stock Market Index (VTSMX): I also like this fund because it represents not just the biggest companies in the US, but also the smaller ones. It aims to track 100% of the investable stocks in the US. It’s a perfect option if you want a US stock index fund.
Expense Ratio: 0.14% and Minimum Investment: $3,000.
US Bonds
Bonds are like an IOU by governments or corporations. Most are very low risk. That’s why their returns are lower, but they make your portfolio less risky. My suggestion? The Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND). It invests in both US government and corporate bonds.
Expense Ratio: 0.035% and Minimum Investment: $3,000
Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
Think of REITs as index funds for real estate. They pool money from investors to buy income-producing real estate such as domestic and international housing, industries, and commercial properties.
They are great investments for those who don’t want to have the headache of buying physical real estate but still invest in it. I love the Vanguard REIT ETF (VNQ). It’s solid and reputable.
Expense ratio: 0.12% and Minimum Investment: $3,000
International Stocks and Bonds
International stocks and bonds diversify your portfolio. International stocks don’t typically correlate with the performance of US stocks. When one has a good year, the other usually doesn’t. By investing in both, you smooth out your returns by investing in multiple asset classes that don’t correlate with each other.
Here’s a real-life example of the benefits of diversifying in international stocks. From 1976-2010, a portfolio that had 60% US stocks and 40% international stocks would have given marginally higher returns but at a lower risk than a portfolio with 100% US stocks.
I like the Schwab International Index Fund (SWISX). It invests in several countries and is extremely affordable.
Expense Ratio: 0.06% and No Minimum Investment.
For international bonds, my choice is the Vanguard Total International Bond Index Fund Admiral Shares (VTABX).
Expense Ratio: 0.09% and Minimum Investment: $3,000.
Best Options for Buying Index Funds
If you haven’t already done it, the best way to begin investing in index funds is through your 401(k) and Roth IRA accounts. You should absolutely max out both because they help you save out on truckloads of taxes. Speak to someone at HR at your employer and set up an investment plan into index funds for your 401(k). Watch the fees though, some 401(k) plans only give you access to horrible mutual funds.
You will need a broker to invest in index funds through your Roth IRA. A good broker must be low-cost, secure, and easy to use.
My favorite inline brokers are TD Ameritrade, Vanguard, and Fidelity.
Signing up with these brokers is easy. Here’s a quick guide on how to go about it:
Go to the brokerage website of your choice.
Click on the ‘Open An Account’ button.
You need to apply for an ‘Individual Brokerage Account’.
Fill in all the relevant information about yourself.
You need to transfer the initial deposit at this stage if your broker requires it.
Sit back and wait. Verifying your information might take anywhere between 3 to 7 days.
The broker will get in touch with you once your account is setup. All that is left now is buying your first index fund. At this stage, it is as easy as buying something from Amazon. Look up the fund you want and place an order.
Considerations and Tips Before Investing Into an Index Fund
Now, I know you may be wondering how you can tell a good index fund from a bad one. Here are some things you should keep in mind while investing in index funds:
Costs: Traditionally, index funds are low cost (under 0.20%). But some of them are crazy expensive and cost more than 1.5%. You know what to do in this case. STAY AWAY from them. As a thumb rule, do not invest in index funds that cost more than 0.20%.
Tracking: The sole job of an index fund portfolio is to mimic an index accurately. To ensure this is happening, compare the holdings and returns of the concerned index to your fund. I don’t worry about this with major online brokers like Vanguard or Fidelity but if you’re investing into a smaller broker, check their returns and make sure they’re matching their benchmark as expected.
Checking investments every day: Do NOT do this. You are better of watching cat videos on Instagram. Believe me. Looking at your investments every day has not helped anyone. Check your investments once every three months. Index funds are the safest and best way to invest in stocks. Take advantage of it and don’t get worried with day to day drops.
Automation: Investing once a year is like exercising only once a year. It’s clearly not going to solve the purpose. You need to be consistent with your investments. So, make sure you set up an automatic monthly investment into index funds.

Fitness and the Family Business — Sitting Poolside with Mike Monfredi from MikedUp Blog
The Sitting Poolside interview series
When people think of retirement, scenes of beachfront homes, rounds of golf, or reading by the pool come to mind. Sitting Poolside is a series of interviews that challenges that notion and other financial misperceptions. The series name pokes fun at the stereotypes, but it’s also an opportunity to discuss people’s real stories and unique insights. So grab a piña colada and pull up your lounge chair!
Mike from MikedUp Blog
I’m Mike – current 30-ish CEO and Blogger. I write Financial insights for Family & Business, and Fitness tips for all! We’re growing our family-owned business while I’m focusing on staying fit and being a solid family man… and writing about all the highs and lows on MikedUp Blog!
Wealth
Mr. SR (MSR): What was your concept of wealth when you were growing up?
Mike Monfredi (MM): For whatever reason, my concept of ‘wealthy’ at a young age was earning $100,000/year. But I hadn’t quite grasped much of anything financially at a young age. I came from an upper-middle-class family, didn’t want for much, and although I worked from the age of 15, I still was afforded the privilege to pursue sports, different fields of work, and other passions.
I knew that I needed to save money but I didn’t quite know where, or how. I knew of the few employment options available in my hometown but honestly felt helpless at the prospect of only those few options, none of which seemed to boast much potential.
So I focused entirely on annual salary, ignorantly ignoring the multitude of ways I could put some savings to work for me (i.e. real estate, investing in the market, etc.). I felt that if I could earn 6-figures that all would be swell in the money department.
But I ended up finding out later in life that more money doesn’t solve your financial woes — it just gives you new ones.
The family business
MSR: What is your current career status? How do you like to spend your time when you’re not working?
MM: I am currently the CEO of our family’s small business, a 9-employee dental office in Columbus, Ohio. But up until January 2019 — I worked this job in addition to a regular 9-5 with a large state agency in Ohio as a Forensic Scientist.
I did the two full-time jobs while blogging, having 2 young children (well, technically watching my wife have them), and tackling all the other tasks that come with regular life. About mid-2017 my stress level was unbearable and with the counsel of my wife, we decided that one day she and I would work together in our business.
I’m stoked to report that today is now that day.
When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my girls, working out, playing beach volleyball, meal prepping, watching some live sporting event, or enjoying a glass of red with my wife on the 1 out of 30 nights both girls are asleep before 9:00. Love those days…
MSR: I’m curious to hear more about your experience in the medical field and with the business that you and your wife run together.
As doctors yourselves (and spending time with other medical personnel during your career), has that background affected your worldview or your priorities, compared to other people you know who have different career paths?
MM: Just for a bit of background — my wife is the dentist and I run the company (no clinical expertise). Although we have the same undergraduate degrees, our grad degrees are where we diverged academically.
With that being said, I do have many interactions with other medical professionals in addition to my wife and business partner — and I’d say that background does put a unique perspective on the decisions we make.
For example, we are 100% in business to make money, however the ethical component of doing what’s best for the patient cannot be ignored. Sure, we can try and sell the most expensive treatment for our patients, but if that’s not what they need, or if a less-expensive option would be best for their specific situation — that is what we suggest.
Many patients who visit our office do not have a great deal of clinical knowledge of dentistry. It is our job to educate our customers, explain what treatment they need — if any — and why, and at that point we’re able to start making money.
Aside from those points — we notice smiles while we’re out and about. Much like a car salesman may notice cars, sometimes we’ll exchange a, “Wow – nice teeth there!” under our breath.
Value of physical fitness
MSR: You share that fitness is a big part of your journey and one of your hobbies now.
Have you found that your health and fitness interests have correlated with your personal finance interests? Are there principles or motivations that fuel you in both areas?
MM: 100% — yes.
If you want to be successful in achieving a higher level of fitness, you need specific and achievable goals. You need a plan to reach those marks and you need some ways to measure and track your progress. From there, you need the discipline to see it through.
Does that sound at all like budgeting or tracking your net worth to reach FI, for example? It does to me.
The main concepts carry over to all aspects of your life, whether they’re fitness, finance, family, business, or otherwise.
Strategic goals, a well-researched plan, and the discipline to see it through while adjusting course along the way is the recipe used to make significant positive progress in life.
The trick for me lately, is realizing that I’m only truly capable of focusing on 2-3 major life goals at one time. So I’ll prioritize the most vital in the present moment, check them off, and move on to the next.
Financial journey
MSR: Describe your financial journey.
MM: If you’re looking at a scatter plot with the X-axis representing time and the Y-axis representing net worth, my financial journey creeps up over a small hill in my early 20’s, drops off a cliff around 25, and gradually climbs a slow, steady, and arduous mountain at about 29.
The Sisiphyisian climb from 29 to present-day represents a multitude of hard work, incredible risk, and some ole’ fashioned good luck.
If you’re looking for professional experience and a bit about who I am in general, here’s an excerpt from my ‘Start Here’ page that gives you an idea:
I played football in college, got injured, gained too much weight, then lost ~65 pounds. I have an intense drive to keep that weight off. My degrees are in molecular biology and ecology. I’ve been fortunate to have worked, a lot – in a bunch of different fields (as a landscaper, men’s fragrance salesman, coach, server, quality supervisor, forensic scientist, blogger, and now CEO…) and in varying places (Ohio, Maui, Costa Rica, the Gulf of Mexico,…).
Monica and I took out some sizeable loans for her to go to dental school and for us to buy our business (MFD), and we are working to pay off that debt and grow the business (many posts about each of these in the archives and to come). We believe in credit cards that don’t carry a balance from one month to the next (love the points, hate the interest). We put family first and love vacations. Our world centers around our girls (Clara and Stella).
From here, we’re betting on ourselves and our business to be the drivers of economic gain and wealth generation, and we’re really stoked to be working together on a project we both love.
Family
MSR: You share that your marriage and your daughters are a top priority for you.
How do you balance your career and personal finance focus with finding time to spend with your family? Do you have any routines or advice for other people struggling to find a sense of balance in those areas?
What’s been working for me lately is to have specifically coded times throughout the day. Early morning is for workouts/family/getting ready for the day. Work hours are for work. Come 5:00pm — the kids bedtime, it’s family time. Then after the kids are asleep, I do my best to balance quality time with my wife, gym work, me time, and time for blogging or additional work on our business.
For the first 2 years we were in business, I had another full-time job thrown into that mix, but I’ve actually had a night or two to relax lately — which is a much welcome feeling.
As long as I’m not slacking on my discipline, and keeping the lines crystal clear — not allowing my coded times to bleed together — I’m able to find the balance my life needs.
Advice
MSR: What do you consider to be your biggest failure or regret?
MM: You know, I honestly don’t have many hugely regrettable situations in life. I’ve made a ton of mistakes, sure, but many of those have been tremendous learning experiences — and I’m better for them.
Honestly, I probably partied a bit too hard from 19-23. And with some of the opportunities I had in that window, I would’ve rather capitalized on making the most of those rather than worrying about ‘having such a good time’.
MSR: What is your concept of wealth or financial success now? What were the major influences that changed your view?
MM: Net worth. Period, full stop. I learned quickly that a 6-figure income doesn’t bring with it rainbows and unicorns. And if you’re not saving money, building wealth, paying off debt, etc. it really doesn’t matter how much money you make.
So, I’d say that ‘wealth’ to me means a healthy and growing net worth, while financial success is the ability to do the things you want to do in combination with growing your net worth, not in spite of it.
I saw individuals who earned what was a huge paycheck in my eyes who also didn’t have much in the way of assets. Conversely, I’ve seen folks who earn modest paychecks, but who’ve been good stewards of their money be able to retire comfortably and do the things they choose to.
MSR: What’s the most helpful book you’ve read recently?
MM: Regular readers of MikedUp Blog know where I’m going here…
Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin
For some perspective on my feelings regarding this book: I have given it as a gift to friends, relatives, and employees alike. In fact, it is the literature we use at our business to read, describe, and discuss the culture we have implemented. All of our team members have been provided with a copy and I’ve read through and discussed each chapter with all of them.
There are so many great leadership teachings in this book and the way that each chapter is constructed – with a real-life battlefield story that leads to a principle, which is then defined and finally applied to the business setting – helps to amplify and reinforce each chapter’s principle.
It also makes chapter discussions easy to facilitate. But maybe the most valuable lesson I have learned after reading through this book nearly 20 times is that by putting the Team before self, not only does the team win but by definition so do your individual ambitions and goals.
This book has helped me to be a better husband, boss, employee, and person. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
MSR: What advice would you give someone who is on the path to semi-retirement or early retirement?
Develop a well-researched and results-oriented plan to build wealth. Ask ‘wealthy’ friends or acquaintances how they’ve generated wealth, read books, blogs, and listen to podcasts, and incorporate the points that work for you into your plan.
Understand the risks associated, where your plan can go wrong, and what to do when that happens. Use all of this information to come up with a plan that suits both your desired goals and the lifestyle you hope to live in pursuit of those goals.
Because life’s not about the finish line — that’s a misconception. It’s about the journey toward the line. And you have the ability to design that journey and all it’s twists and turns based on the decisions you make early on.
And once you decide where your life will lead you — put your head down and get to work.
MSR: Mike, thank you for sharing your family’s story with us. I appreciate your time and I’m excited to see how your blog and your business both continue to grow!

Speeding ticket.. insurance increase?
okay soo I just turned 18 last tuesday, and today, I got a speeding ticket. I was going 58 in 40, but I really didn't notice that. the cop went by me in the other direction and apparently his radar said I was going 58. I know I've sped on that road before, but this time I honestly don't think I was. it was my second speeding ticket.. I got one last year that didn't go on my record or something so the insurance company never found out. but this time, I can't imagine I'd be so lucky. I've been googling car insurance and how much it would go up, but I can't find it anywhere. I believe we're with arbella. my parents are going to kill me and I don't know what to do that will help this situation. so I guess I have two questions: one, how much will my family's insurance increase? and two, what to do I do to minimize the penalty, or whatever you want to call it. I'm perfectly willing to pay the fine..if I was speeding, I deserve that.""

Does a warning for running a red light increase insurance rates? PLEASE HELP!?
Today I got pulled over for the first time for running a red light , when the officer pulled me over, as he was getting off his bike I took my seatbelt off (I know, now that I think of it, it was such a stupid thing to do, but it was my first time being pulled over and I didnt know how to react). He di.dn't say anything about the seatbelt, but he told me that I ran the red light back there. Ok, let me explain this to you guys now, i don't know if you're familiar with Cape Cod or not but there are TONS, literally tons of tourists here right now, and the roads are really narrow.. There was a guy in an Audi pulling into a parking spot in reverse in front of me and he was taking half of the lane that I was on.. This parking spot happens to be 10 ft away from the set of lights. In my mind I was thinking, I'm gonna go to the left side to let this guy go in, and while that was happening I was worried about the tourists that like to jaywalk and cross the road inbetween cars... So I go to the left and the left and gas it a little bit, I was going like 10 mph as I was taking off, and the light turns yellow, I cross the crosswalk, then the light turns red and I drive under the set of lights.. These 2 bike cops came immediately after me... So long story short, it was my first time being pulled over, I took the seatbelts off, and I ran the red light because there was a guy pulling into a parking stop right in front of me and I was too worried looking around afraid I was going to hit a jaywalking tourists. I know people always think they're right, but I honestly think I didn't do anything wrong here. I got a $25 seat belt fine and a warning for running the red light, which is complete BS. I know it's a warning but I don't want it on my record at all, how can I appeal, any tips? Im only 18 years old, just got off my JOL and I'm very conscientious of other people, never speed or anything. I appreciate your help, will give best answer, thanks!""
Why doesn't insurance coverage increase along with premiums?
Suppose you have 100 / 300 / 100 car insurance coverage. Suppose you were paying $50 per month in 1990. Suppose you are now paying $75 per month in 2010. If the premiums go up because of inflation then shouldn't the coverage? It costs more to fix a car in 2010 than it did in 1990. Is it correct to say the insurance company's average risk is the same, but their maximum risk has gone down? Having to pay out $100,000 maximum today is less than $100,000 maximum in 1990. What do you think?""

How much insurance would a 1977 Camaro be for a 16 year old?
My dream car has always been a Camaro. Recently me and my dad have been looking for project cars to fix up and stuff. We found a 1977 Camaro that only needs cosmetic work, so I've been asking him about it. He says the insurance would be around $5000 a year. We could get the at around $2500 dollars. The Camaro has a 350 V8 engine and a T350 transmission. I'm 16 right now but I turn 17 in 2 months. I've had my license for 10 months with no tickets or accidents. I've had 2 cars already, a 1997 Nissan Altima and a 1998 Chrysler Sebring (Which I pay about $90 a month for.) I am on my parents' insurance, but I still pay for the car I drive. I know I won't get a perfectly accurate amount without asking our Insurance providers, but is my dad right when he says it would be $5000 a year?""

My fiance got hit in my car is it an insurance problem?
I bought a car about 5 months ago and got full coverage insurance through State Farm with myself listed as the driver of the car and only my name on the insurance. My fiances car recently broke down so we sold it to salvage and canceled her insurance for it. I have two cars so I let her borrow the newest one today because its an automatic. Pulling out to turn a woman struck her passenger side with a minivan. I haven't seen it yet but the damage she says is very light a scratch and the front corner of the headlight broken. The other woman agreed it was totally her fault and provided all her insurance info but they didn't call the police to make a report :( So will this cause a problem when I call the womens insurance company or if I have to call mine if her insurance won't pay and who should I contact first just her insurance or mine and hers? I don't want to tell my company if I don't have to I turn 25 in a week and my rate is suppossed to drop big time and I don't want to screw that up.

""Car insurance question. Help desperately needed, please!?""
Here's the situation. Before I start here, I will say I have never sold a car/transferred insurance in my life until now (I'm 37) and I'm panicking. (Please don't laugh; I am somewhat mentally disabled and have a hard time understanding business side of things). Please bear with me: I have a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with 178,000 miles on it. Last Friday, my husband's brother decided to give his 2005 Hyundai Elantra (53,000 miles) to us as a free gift. We decided to sell the Malibu to some friends of ours (with whom we have been friends for quite a few years). My friends have already paid us and they have a Bill of Sale and next week we are getting a duplicate of the Chevy title in the mail (because we lost ours), at which time we will transfer. Here is where the confusion begins: My mother-in-law (who is a retired State Farm insurance agent) drew up a Bill of Sale that indicated as its last sentence at the end, Buyer will show proof of liability insurance at the time the car is received (or something like that; I don't have the Bill of Sale in front of me). We saw our friends today to get the Bill of Sale notarized (they already paid for the car; we're just waiting for the title for the Malibu to arrive via mail, as mentioned above). Their insurance agent is about 90 miles away, I find out, and will need pictures of the car. Our friends insist that my mother-in-law is just being a mom since we're new at such a transaction (our friends have owned and sold boats, cars, etc., so they are experienced at this, too), meaning that she's being overcautious by saying they need to present proof of liability insurance at the exact time I give them the keys to the car. So, once I give them the title and the keys, are they responsible for when they get the car insurance? My Hyundai is covered through my insurance agent (my mother-in-law called them and got coverage on it already), but she insists that I am not to get insurance verification on the Hyundai until the friends show proof of their insurance on the Malibu after they get possession of it. Is that correct, or is my mother-in-law just being overcautious? (I would think that once I switch the Malibu title to my friends' name and give them the keys, that would relieve me of any responsibility any longer to the Malibu). Help me, please. I am so confused; I have my mother-in-law telling me one thing, and my friends telling me another. Both sound correct. So would I be right if I did these (in this exact order): 1) switch the title over to their name & give them the keys to the Malibu. 2) call my insurance agent and report that I sold my Malibu, and ask them to type insurance vertification for the Hyundai. (would I have to be present in person for them to type the verification for the Hyundai? Also, would my report of me selling the Malibu mean that they would cancel the insurance on it immediately?) I am sorry this is so lengthy; I tried to explain this the best as I could. I just want to do what is correct in the eyes of the law.""

Does affordable car insurance exist for a 19 year old?
I'm a 19 year college student. Currently I'm a closing manager at McDonald's and a certified Cisco Network Associate. I'm in the process of buying a vehicle and was optimistic about it until I started to look for insurance. The cheapest policy I've found is $338 a month. There isn't any way I can afford that and the car payment. It's not that I'm lazy and don't work, I work 40 hour weeks plus overtime from closing. I live in a rural area (North Georgia Mountains) so taking the bus isn't a option for a 20 mile commute. My closest neighbor is 7 miles away so car pooling isn't realistic. I feel somewhat hopeless. I would join my parent's policy or something similar but I live on my own and have little to no contact with them. I've been borrowing my Mother's car to get to work but she's given me 3 weeks to get a vehicle or walk. I have found it to be almost impossible to transition into the real world and become an adult and live on my own. What's a guy to do in my situation? I can't work without transportation, and without work I can't pay bills. That American Dream I grew up hearing about seems to only exist for people who have established wealth and good parents. What's left for the others? Are people in my situation just ******?""

Ticket and insurance rates?
My parents have 3 cars all insured in their names. Any statefarm agents that can help with a car insurance question?
I had my auto insurance with state farm for several years. I used to live in Miami, Fl for pretty much the whole time until this past January that i moved to Orlando. Until now (October 2012) i hadn't changed my address because i was planning on going back but now that i decided to stay in Orlando i ended up changing to another insurance company because my policy was going to be A LOT cheaper. My question is, should i be able to get retroactive pay for the difference in my premium from the more expensive premium that i was paying in Miami and the much lower one from Orlando? I sent my state farm agent my lease contract since the beginning of the year and she said that they weren't going to allow it. Does that sound right? Car insurance gets cheaper at 21?
Okay so this may sound stupid but I have heard that car insurance gets cheaper at the age of 21, I mean it is still alot for new young drivers compared to the 25+ year olds but apparently cheaper. Proof of Insurance (and deferral)?
Hello, I live in washington state, and have a mitigation hearing tomorrow for a speeding ticket. It's my first, so I have a few questions. In my ticket im charged with no proof of insurance, BUT I was wrong, I had my insurance I was just confused, I did not realize our AAA was our insurance as well as the aid that they're known for. Anyways, since then I have lost my wallet. So I have a temporary lisence but still no insurance card. So how do I get proof that I had insurance on that day? I have an insurance policy card I've been keeping in the dash. Will that work? Then how do I get this deferred? Do I ask the judge, or do I need to go to the courthouse today to get a form, etc. Thanks for any help.""

My parents wont put me in car insurance?
My dad keeps giving me excuses to why I'm not on his insurance yet. His excuse now is that he wants to switch car insurances first, but that he can't until he fixes his car. Like why can't he fix his car under the new insurance? it makes no sense. I've had my license for about 3 weeks now. All my friends have been put under insurance as soon as they got their license. I'm trying to get a job, but I cant because I'm not on the insurance. and no one can drive me to work since they work themselves. My parents think my older brother is my personal driver, its annoying. I don't know what to do. Any advice?""
Named driver car insurance?
My dad purchased a car and added me as a named driver. I use the car whenever he doesn't use it but as a majority he covers more miles than I do, some weeks it's 50/50 usage others I use it not as much. My dad is the owner of the car and the policy holder. He received a call from the insurance people and because he said we use it 50/50 some weeks they have now given him 7 days left before they are going to cancel the insurance. He payed this in fully and is only 2 months in. He recieved no terms and conditions, are they aloud to do this? Please help as he is isn't clued up on this and we both need to use the car. We were told that we need separate insurance for the vehicle which seems ridiculous seen as that would be double the price and not make any sense. He has his own other vehicle which he uses for work and I only use the shared car when necessary. Thanks in advance for any help. Ryan""

Will a bike licence bring down car insurance?
Ok, so I'm 18 and am looking to learn to drive. I know that insuring a car is going to cost a bomb anyway, but will the fact I have passed a full motorcycle test (A2) help to bring my insurance down? Or will the fact I will have access to two vehicles (car and motorbike) increase my insurance? By the time I pass my car test I would have had my A2 licence for a year and have 3years no claims discount. Also I am looking at getting a 1.1 Citroen Saxo. Will a two door be more expensive than the four door to insure or doesn't it make much difference?? Thanks.""

If I obtain the insurance after denying my condition could I be denied the care/specialty visit/meds from a very routine medical condition?""
Can I Buy Car Insurance Without Having A Car?
I'm not planning on driving anyone else's car it's just that my mom doesn't want to put me on her insurance because she says that it'll be too expensive for her (even though I would pay her for my piece). Thing is I don't have a car yet but do plan on financing a ar very soon. I've been pre-approved so I'm pretty much set to go but want to just drive my car off the lot without any problems. Also, does 'non-owner's' insurance like roll over should you buy a ar yourself? Like say for instance I did get non-owners insurance, drove my mom's car and then finally got enough money to buy my own car, can I use the same insurance?""

""No fault claim on car insurance, will rate go up?""
My truck was hit by a car while parked in valet parking. The valet company was not driving the other car, it was a lady who tried to get around my truck because she did not want to use the valet. The valet company took her insurance information and wrote a report indicating what happened. I only have a few deep scratches on my bumper, but it is a new car and kind of want to get it fixed because it is new. I was hesitant to call my insurance and tell them about it because I have heard that a claim is a claim on my record regardless of fault. I did call my insurance to discuss the situation and when I could ask if my insurance would go up for a no fault claim, the lady told me she just filed the claim and an adjuster would contact me in a few days to answer all my questions. If it is only a few hundred dollars in damage, I would have rather paid it myself than have a claim. Anyone experience anything like this and how long does claim stay on record in case I have a real claim someday?""

If my son is on my parents insurance does that mean they claim him on his taxes?
Okay my son is now 1 year old. He is on my parents insurance, we live with them, and my parents pretty much support him.(pay for all expenses).. Now my sons father wants to put him on his taxes. I know he just wants to get money to get him a new car. he also says he will get me a car too. but idk about that. When i told him i think my parents already claimed him, he started yelling its his son, and told me to give him his security card(he has a really bad temper and gets angry to where i get scared) so i did.. but now i need to sign a paper..and i dont want too.. Here is my thing i told him that he is automatically on my parents taxes, because he is on there insurance, so that would mean i would have to take aiden off of their insurance(Which means he wouldnt be on any insurance)he started yelling how stupid i am and just to sign paper, my question is is it true that because my parents have him on their insurance, he is on their taxes. What should i do? Thanks for anyhelp. Sorry long question. Please no rude answers""

I think my short term disability due to giving birth got messed up?
So I want on leave on May 20th due to best rest. I used all my vacation and leftover sick time, and the rest is paid by short term disability, a total of about 9 weeks total. I stayed home 6 weeks after my baby was born since my work doesn't cover any of my pay. I work in a very small private business, just 3 of us. My boss had never handled maternity leave before, and I think he did it wrong. A few weeks after I gave birth he said he got a check from the disability insurance agency, it was made out to his business. So he cashed it and wrote me a check for the total amount from his business account. There was no explanation of how to dole it out, so he just gave me the total amount. Then, just now, 3 weeks later, I got another check mailed to my home from the insurance company?? What happened? I should of only got paid for the 3.5 weeks I believe from short term disability because I was paid for the rest. The insurance company is not open until tomorrow so I cannot call them yet.""
