i actually don’t think y’all understand how disillusioned i am with tv these days... the industry is dead to me. not for the reasons most fandom people say that like oh my fave died my fave couple broke up etc etc no. i think tv is dead because it literally is DEAD. its become so oversaturated that there is literally no way to rake through the muck to find the gems of good story. media has always been profit driven but the evolution to let’s create as much content as possible to beat out our competitors but only give them 1.5 seasons if that and make sure they have record-breaking streaming numbers -- a meaningless, MEANINGLESS metric when it comes to the quality of the storytelling -- within two days or they get the axe guaranteed and every single thing being a cheap and soulless IP adaptation that fans are happy to gobble down just to say they have it rather than actually see it as a faithful interpretation bc money money money and i swear if i see one more gd star marvel wars piece of property i will lose it. in this essay i will,

Currently Watching: Right this second? I'm watching a recording of The View from this morning. But I'm really looking forward to watching Abbott Elementary later tonight.

Relationship status: Hmmm... single-ish? I tend to date people for 3 months, until the "Where is this going?" talk. When I say, "Babe, I don't want to be serious..." They tend to walk. EVERYONE wants to be tied down! I'm like been there, done that, got the t-shirt, not going back... lol Now, I'm dating someone, it's going on 3 months, we had the "I don't want to be serious" talk, and she said, "You know that's totally cool with me." lol So I'm pretty pumped about that. lol

Current Obsession: OK, so I've been trying to avoid politics and news for my sanity, but there is just too much going on. So, I'm back to volunteering and trying to impact change locally because I sure don't know how to do it nationally or globally anymore. Jon Stewart is back on The Daily Show, and I'm obsessed. I freaking loved Derry Girls and I am rewatching it, I'm also OBSESSED with American Fiction. It was so fucking good!

oh absolutely. i'm not really in fandom anymore, it's just not the same as it was back in my heyday, but here's some i find myself rewatching or rereading.

ok so i was tagged by the lovely aria @calumthoodshands in this and what i got from her drunk explanation (love u aria) on the post is that we're talking about our top 8 shows that you need to know to know me 🥰 i definitely rambled here way too much for no reason but oh well <3

911 (2018 -): hmmm do i need to explain? i feel like people heard and seen me lose my mind over the weewoo show. this is currently what's shaping my life. i take the day off on tuesday cause it's when the new episodes air for me. yes it's that level of brainrot.

skam (2015 - 2017): this show shaped me as a teen gonna be real. i watched it in my last year of high school and seeing this type of real show about teens where at the times all the shows with high school were like tvd and gossip girl and such it was refreshing! i do believe that for full impact of watching skam you needed to hunt episodes on google drive and wait for translations as you're avoiding studying for your finals but it's great in any viewing shape and form.

parenthood (2010 - 2015): this is one of the shows that i used to watch weekly as it aired with my mom. it's about family and we've grown attached to the bravermans 🫶 it gave us many good crys!! also peter krause my beloved is there (even though i would have fought adam braverman many times).

ted lasso (2020 -): a show that just brings joy to my heart <3 im probably gonna cry when it's gonna end in a few weeks. every episode that i watch of this show i get some faith in humanity and when i don't think it can get better, it does!!

this is us (2016 - 2022): show of all time. the amount of tears this show brought out of me. made me have a full panic attack watching a certain episode and it's one of the best episodes of the whole series. this is another show i watched with my mom where we tuned in every week to watch together and it was our hangout time that i still very cherish. again very family driven storylines so yeah 🥹

schitt's creek (2015 - 2020): how does one explain the love i got in my heart for the rose family and co? a show i definitely procrastinated finishing cause i didn't want it to end!!! just as good as everyone say it is and i loved every second of it.

glee (2009 - 2015): when i tell you being a gleek was my whole personality for years i am not kidding. watched this baby since it came out and i would wake up at 4am so i could watch the episodes before school and then later on burn them on CDs. i had posters, magazines, merch, everything. like half the songs i know are from glee. watching glee from 10 years old will change your brain chemistry i promise you. i will admit that i stopped watching after the quarterback episode but at a point of time (literal years) this show was my everything.

always sunny (2005 -): most awful people in the world but you can't help but love them. pretty sure it's the longest running sitcom at this point? if not it will be. i did base my personality after some stuff from the show for a while. my bio on insta is still "champion of the sun ☀️" after all these years. i dressed up as charlie in the day man episode. it's just a really fucking funny show.

Music: Because I don’t trust spotify to know exactly everything I listen to and have been using last.fm for 12 years now, you get an end of year list based on my listening habits over there. A few funny standouts. Yes, that is the Severance theme as my #6 most listened to song. I tend to eat up the music of a show/movie I love and that was probably my favorite show this year. And yes, I was not immune to Bruno at the start of the year as you can clearly see by it being song #5. 

The rest is just a mish-mash of indie (Mitski, Father John Misty, Tegan and Sara, Arcade Fire, Ani DiFranco), R&B (SZA, Amber Mark, Syd) weepy ballads (Conan Gray), Pop (Taylor Swift) and everyone’s favorite emos (MCR) who decided to grace us with a new song for the first time in a long time.

Some anomalies: I got to go to my first concert since covid shut everything down, which was The Chicks and therefore the reason they are among my most listened to artists this year. The Smashing Pumpkins, eh ... I went thru a phase where I tried collecting all their relaxing songs into a playlist.

A few of my favorite non-musical things of 2022:

Movies: Puss in Boots 2 (Yes, you read that right), The Bob’s Burgers Movie, That second Doctor Strange film (although, I’ve never actually seen the first and I just liked it bc it was very Sam Raimi-fied), and then seeing Spirited Away and The Muppet Christmas Carol in theaters. Truth be told, I don’t watch a whole lot of new movies, just rewatch comfort ones.

TV: That Station Eleven miniseries, Severance, Andor, Abbott Elementary, Our Flag Means Death, What We Do In The Shadows, the first s3 episode of The Owl House bc it was really, really good. High School (which is on freevee so I’m sure none of you have ever heard of it and that’s a shame bc it’s a really good show!!). The ending of Derry Girls was sad, but good. I honestly didn’t love Kenobi, but I will give it attention in this list for renewing my Obidala love with the line “I wish I could say that I was.” And finally my latest obsession Hunter x Hunter, which didn’t come out this year, but I’m counting it bc it’s new to me and am very invested in my new found family.

Books: The Legendborn Series by Tracy Deonn, The Scythe Trilogy by Neal Shusterman and The Carry On Series by Rainbow Rowell were the standouts for me.
