You should submit to radio stations to get heard! Many people listen to the radio and use it as a means to search for new artists. Many well-known performers got their start when they submitted a demo to a Florida radio station that played their song. The radio station is how Lil Uzi got signed! With so many people always sending in new music, however, it might be difficult to be noticed. Here are some guidelines for submitting your music to stations in Florida to get you started. Radio is non-interactive compared to other music consumption mediums. Your song on Spotify playlists means that it can be skipped... That's the beauty of radio - you don't need to search for a good artist. Airplay is a sustainable form for an artist to get heard around the world. Top 10 Florida radio stations: WiLD 95.6 - West Palm Beach, FL Mix 100.7 - Tampa, FL 97.9 KISS FM - Jacksonville, FL Rumba 100.3 - Orlando, FL V101.5 - Jacksonville, FL Mia 94.3 - West Palm Beach, FL Y100 Miami - Miami, FL 103.5 The BEAT - Miami, FL Magic 107.7 - Orlando, FL US 103.5 - Tampa, FL When you access air-play from these stations then you're in for something good! “What the fuck is this?”
Harry flinched as his girlfriend shoved the phone at him. He’d just got out of the shower, hair still dripping wet, but it wasn’t so out of the ordinary that she would start a fight first thing in the morning.
He sighed and gently pushed her phone away from his face. “Baby, if it’s another rumour about me cheating on you...I was with you this whole week!”
“No.” She lifted the phone up to his face again. “That girl just released another song about you.”
Even though Harry didn’t let it show, whenever he heard about Y/N, his heart would always skip a beat. He couldn’t remember exactly when the last time they’d spoken was, but he knew in his last message to her, he’d congratulated her on that new song about him. She’d never replied, and he’d taken it as the answer — they could never go back to the way it was.
It had broken his heart to listen to ‘drivers license’. Y/N had never been the kind of person to be vocal about her feelings. Or maybe she’d expressed it through actions instead of words, and he had been too nonchalant to see? He hadn’t meant to break her heart and leave her in the dust. After all, she used to be his best friend.
“Y/N’s a songwriter. She writes about her own experience the same way I do. Maybe that song is not even about me, babe,” he calmly told his girlfriend, who was standing in front of him with fresh tears in her eyes. He hated to see her cry, and he hated that this wasn’t the first time she’d done it because of him. He tried to reach for her but she stepped back, shaking her head.
“Listen to the song.”
“Baby.”
“Listen to the song,” his girlfriend repeated without looking at him. “Why are you so afraid?”
“I’m not.”
“Then listen to it and tell me it’s not about you, and that she’s not throwing shades at me. I’m so tired of this girl telling the world about how horrible we are as if you had even dated her in the first place—”
“Fine,” Harry exhaled sharply, his eyes pinched shut. He hated that when his girlfriend got mad, she would get so mean for no reason, and the last thing he wanted to hear right now was her insulting Y/N. He knew Y/N. She had always been respectful to his new relationship. However, he wasn’t in the position to tell his girlfriend how to feel about this situation. He knew it was all his fault, so he stayed quiet, took the phone from his girlfriend and sat down on the edge of the bed. His girlfriend stood with her back against the wall facing him, waiting for him to play the song so she could see his reaction to it.
“Go on,” she told him, her voice emotionless.
Harry looked at the song on Spotify. It was titled deja vu. He took a deep breath and one last look at his girlfriend before finding enough courage to press play.
Y/N’s previous song about him had been blasted in every shop he’d visited, all the time when he was filming, every time he was in the car, and now, the moment he heard her voice again, it really did feel like deja vu.
Car rides down Malibu
Strawberry ice cream
One spoon for two…
.
.
.
“Are we there yet?”
“No, stop being so impatient! Just keep on driving!” Y/N said and looked out of the window on the passenger side. The sun was going down, and the horizon was gradually turning the colour of an egg yolk. It was their last day in Miami. They had been filming for every day that week, and this was the only day they could spend just for themselves.
Harry stole a glance at Y/N and saw that she’d finished half the strawberry ice cream while bobbing her head to the song Uptown Girl on the radio. He frowned, making her laugh when she noticed.
“Open your mouth,” she said and fed him a spoon of ice cream.
“Ahh, brain freeze!”
“But it’s good, isn’t it?”
“So good.” Harry licked his lips. The face he made got Y/N laughing harder.
Fifteen minutes later they arrived at a secluded beach. Y/N had found this place when she traveled to this city alone two summers ago and almost got lost.
Together, she and Harry carried their picnic things through a palm forest, and by the time they saw the ocean, the moon had made a fading presence on the pink Miami sky.
Y/N picked up her shoes and ran towards the waves, letting it chase her back into Harry’s arms and nearly knocking him over. Their laughter echoed in the wind as their shadows stretched out long and lanky on the empty beach. In that very moment, it felt to Harry as if they were the only people in this world, and he had a sense of peace that he might never be able to experience again.
“You don’t get to see this in the city,” Y/N said dreamily as she pulled Harry’s jacket tighter around herself. It was dark now, and the sky above them was full of stars. They sat shoulder to shoulder on a picnic blanket, listening to the whispers of the ocean and the wind. Harry used Y/N’s jacket as a blanket because it was too small for him to put on. They’d laughed for five minutes straight when she told him he looked like that monkey from Aladdin and took plenty of photos just to prove the point.
“I don’t want to leave tomorrow,” he said, still looking at the sky.
“Me neither,” Y/N sighed, her shoulder brushing his. There was a pause, and he could feel her eyes on him, so he turned and saw her looking. “When I get home,” she said with a small smile that made her eyes sparkle, “I’ll learn to drive, and when we come to Miami next time, I can drive you to this beach.”
“I’d love that,” Harry said, then made her pink-promise him.
.
.
.
“They went to Miami last week.”
Y/N blinked. The beach and starry sky disappeared in a second, and she found herself once again standing in the fitting room with her stylist and best friend.
“What?” her best friend marched over to where she stood in front of the full-length mirror.
Her stylist was holding the phone up to show her the article. “Here. Harry took that actress to Miami last week.”
“Don’t show her these!” Y/N’s best friend grabbed the phone and put it on the vanity desk as she gestured to the stylist. “You do your work. Enough chit-chatting.”
“I took him there,” Y/N said. She didn’t even recognise her own voice at first because she was too in shock. She didn’t think Harry would do something like that. But let’s be honest -- how much did she really know about him?
It had been a few months since his last text to her, which she had ignored, and now her song had been overplayed, and nobody cared about the drama anymore. The whole world had moved on, and she had, too. Or so she’d thought. Now, seeing these pictures of him and his girlfriend on that Miami beach made Y/N feel betrayed.
“Asshole,” her best friend said and grabbed her shoulders. “Don’t worry baby. You’re prettier.”
Y/N worked up a smile and opened her mouth to say that she was fine, but then she heard someone call her name and turn around. They weren’t calling for her. Just a name similar to hers that had become an inside joke between her and her friends.
The moment she locked eyes with Harry’s girlfriend, her heart seemed to stop as she held her breath, her lips thinned as if to hold back a scream. She didn’t know the girl personally and had never run into her before today. How unfortunate that they had to be in the same room after Y/N had seen those Miami pics.
“What is she doing here?” Y/N’s best friend asked the stylist the question Y/N was too afraid to ask.
“Fitting for an event, I guess,” the stylist said.
Y/N told them to just ignore the others and mind their own business. The sooner they got the measurements, the faster she could leave. Or she could leave right now and come back another day, but that would make it look like the other girl’s presence was bothering her. They were both actresses, and so they would have to run into each other at some point. She must be professional about it. This was normal. Just act normal.
“He’s so unique,” Harry’s girlfriend said while laughing with her team. Y/N didn’t mean to overhear the conversation, but apparently, the girl was making sure that Y/N heard her loud and clear. “We were watching reruns of Glee last night, and he even sang to me and told me he loved me inbetween the chorus and the verse. Don’t touch the jacket! It’s Harry’s and it’s Gucci. We exchange jackets sometimes. Isn’t that adorable?”
“Show off,” Y/N’s best friend scoffed while shaking her head.
Y/N didn’t say anything. In her mind, she agreed with her best friend for a second and immediately felt that she was being petty so she forced herself to just be nonchalant about it.
She could not. She could not ignore the fact that she’d been replaced as if she didn’t matter. Harry was doing all the things he used to do with her with his new girl. Even taken her to that Miami beach. Their place.
Y/N bit her lip and tried to hold back the half-formed tears in her eyes as the stylist went on talking about the fabric. She chose a random one just to get this over with.
“I hope that fucker gets deja vu.”
“What?” Y/N blinked at her best friend, who gave a mean shrug as she glared at the girl.
“He’s probably thinking of you while doing all that shit with her.”
Y/N pondered over it. Over and over. Even after the girlfriend’s laughter had faded down the hallway, and Y/N was also packing up to leave the studio. Her best friend’s words stayed with her as she got into the car and watched the street of London pass by her window.
That night, when she was alone in her living room with her piano. She sat down and started playing a few experimental chords. Then, she cried. Her tears blurred the handwritten lyrics on her notebook as she tried again.
“I have this idea,” she told her manager on the phone before sending the recording. It was three in the morning.
“Oh my god,” her manager exclaimed, sounding much more enthusiastic than he had when picking up her call. “This song...is so gonna win a Grammy!”
.
.
.
Y/N’s song had won a Grammy.
They had talked about it for so long. Harry had encouraged her to pursue a singing career, because she’d started out as an actress but was blessed with the most beautiful voice he had ever heard.
Ironic, wasn’t it? Now he was sitting at the front row and looking up at her as she received the award from an artist she looked up to, for the song written about him. She smiled at the crowd as the light shone on her and everyone was cheering because she deserved this. She said her thanks and expressed her gratitude to her family, her teams and her fans. She didn’t say his name. He hadn’t hoped that she would, because he knew there was no way his name would come with a positive message. So he was kind of glad she hadn’t mentioned him.
His girlfriend squeezed his arm as if she knew what he was thinking of. He smiled at his girlfriend. A smile of reassurance. They had put it behind them and promised to try again after all the fights about the song they were playing right now. Nothing would change after tonight. Because there was nothing Harry could change.
He caught Y/N’s eyes for one brief moment as she ascended the stage. Although he was sure he loved his girlfriend, there was something about that look that made him sad. Would he be happier to come here with Y/N tonight instead of his girlfriend? He wouldn’t know, because that would never happen. He didn’t even know if she still resented him, or if she was still the same person he remembered. A lot could change in a day let alone many months. And it was scary to think someone you used to know so much had become a complete stranger. The opposite of love wasn’t hate. It was indifference. And Harry felt it deeply as Y/N never paid him a second glance.
At the after-party, he worked up the courage to approach her when he found her standing alone texting on her phone.
“Hi. How are you?” he said.
Y/N looked at him as if she couldn’t understand English. If she ignored him and walked away, this would be the most humiliating moment of his life.
But no. She pressed her lips into a gentle smile and said, “I’m good. How are you?”
“Good.” He nodded, wanting to shake her hand, but his fingers stayed glued together behind his back. “Congratulations on your win.”
“Thank you.” She picked up the glass of wine on the table beside them, and Harry knew he’d lost his chance of shaking her hand tonight. “Did you like the song?”
“Yeah. It was good,” he said, finding it difficult to hold eye contact with her. There was something new about her that unsettled him, and he couldn’t pinpoint what it was. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For speaking out about it.”
“Oh.” Y/N showed no emotion as she shrugged. “It’s alright. I only said the truth. The song was fictional, and I don’t want anyone to get hate for it.”
They both knew it wasn’t true, and he couldn’t tell her that his girlfriend had almost broken up with him for it. Even if he had told her that, he didn’t think Y/N would care. She didn’t look like the Y/N he knew anymore. Suddenly, he recalled that night on the beach, when she was still looking at him with feelings.
“Look, Y/N, I—”
Before he got a chance to form a proper thought for what he was going to say, his girlfriend, who was obviously drunk, shouted from somewhere behind him. “Babe, Jeff’s wearing a tiny jacket! He looks more like the monkey than you!”
Harry looked at Y/N. She held his gaze. The corners of her red lips quirked as she raised her glass. “Deja vu?”
Just like that, she left him standing there all by himself.

So! Tumblr user @quaranmine I have decided to take you up on your Spotify wrapped challenge but I can’t draw. So it’s a fic! I’m cheating at the challenge but it’s fine. Anyway, my top song was The Haunted Phonograph so, here we go!
—————————————————————————
I curse the day I bought that phonograph for/You, my dear/For there are times I swear that it’s alive
“Hey man, are you ok?” Doc asked softly from the door to Ren’s Odditorium.
The man himself startled, looking up from the piece of moon rock he’d been starting at. “Oh, yeah dude! I’m alright. It’s just kinda cool a whole bit of the moon exploded our chicken coop, y’know?”
Doc hesitated. There was something about the light in Ren’s eyes that he didn’t like. “Are you sure? You’ve been in here a while.”
Ren just laughed it off and nodded. “You’re like my mom, Doc, geez. It’s fine. Promise.”
What else could he do? Doc just nodded and left to work on his own projects. He could only hope that he was being paranoid.
I chase at night the whispering from the music/Room so clear/But I’m mocked with silent scorn when I arrive
There are weird noises that come from the rock.
Doc had been half convinced it was some type of bomb at first, but now that it hadn’t exploded, that idea was gone.
For a few days, he tried to translate it to Morse code, but the sequence went by so quickly and smoothly that he gave up. Whatever the creepy moon rock wanted to say, he didn’t have to do it. He had real things to do.
Ren, however, fell in love with translating it. Or something. He claims there’s a faint whispering coming from it, and he’ll be able to decipher it. Just more time, he needs, and Doc is worried.
Ren has stopped responding as quickly when Doc checks on him. And he’s in the Odditorium more and more frequently. He doesn’t know what to do.
I try to play Caruso but the needle skips the/Grove/While calypso and Ravel keep coming back
“Hey, dude, could you keep the noise down? I can’t really hear.”
Doc obliged, turned the radio volume down. “I didn’t think I had it going that loud. Sorry if it was.”
Ren waved it off, shook his head. “No, no, you were fine. It’s just, I can’t hear what the moon rock is saying when there’s distractions, you know?”
Doc sighed. “Look, I don’t think your fixation on that thing is good for you. Why don’t you just help me go shopping for redstone stuff? Just for today.”
Ren shrugged and agreed, but Doc couldn’t help but notice how tense he was while they were away. The quick glanced he would toss in the direction of home. The way he practically ran to his Odditorium when they got home at sundown.
He tried, at least. He did something.
And there beside that damn machine, you lie/And never move/I’m cuckolded by metal and shellac
It was a couple weeks after this moon craze started that Doc noticed Ren wouldn’t come back for bed. At first he thought the man might just be going to bed late and waking up early, but there’s only so much you can deny it when he never sees the man inside the tiny RV they share.
So he stays up one night, just to see what he does.
And with a distant horror, he sees Ren building something by the Octo-bridge, dodging phantoms. Doc can’t tell what it is, sitting at the campfire, but it’s worrying that Ren has spent his nights doing this. As he watches, Ren seems to grow less and less afraid of the phantoms, just letting them swoop at him.
Doc feels slightly sick.
In the morning, he goes to check on what Ren had made. It was some iron pole, coming up from the ocean floor. It wasn’t taller than the bridge yet, so maybe that’s why Doc didn’t notice it before. Every so often there was a bit of gold or quartz, and it was a bit pretty but….why it was being built, was the question. What’s the purpose? Why is it worth Ren staying up all night, every night, and nearly getting swarmed to death by phantoms?
It has something to do with the moon, though.
It comes to me in dreams and it declares “I’m/Joan of Arc—/You can burn me but I’ve power from above!”
The spire grows. Despite Doc’s efforts to wrangle Ren into a bed and away from the moon, it grows. It branches off at seemingly random points, twisting up to the sky.
Doc’s started to dream of it himself. He stands on the Octo-Bridge staring at the thing, and staring at the moon. In the dream, the moon always says…something, and in the dream he can understand it and he knows to be afraid. But when he wakes up, he can’t remember.
He’s not going to look into it. One of them going moon-crazy is enough.
At one point, Doc gets desperate enough I try and get rid of the moon rock. He isn’t sure how, but he’s trying to leave the Odditorium with it when he’s stopped by Ren at the door. And Ren gets angrier than Doc has seen him get, ever. He tries to push past him, but when Ren tries to bite his arm, he just gives up and puts it back.
But I fear it’s not a dream and you’ll be/Swallowed in its darkness
When Ren builds at night, his eyes go white, Doc notices. And he moves like he’s sleepwalking.
Doc has taken to staying up just to keep an eye on him, make sure he isn’t hurting himself. He has to kill the occasional phantom, which Ren shouts at him for. Sometimes he has to just pick the man up and take him down to their treasure room, away from where the moon could touch him, to get a night of clarity from him. He uses it to get Ren to just sleep for once. He’s upset about it in the morning when he leaves, but it’s worth it.
Doc would keep Ren down there all the time if he could, but it doesn’t always work. And he doesn’t want to imprison the poor man.
One of these days, Doc fears, he won’t be able to get Ren back. He’ll wait too long or the moon’s influence will be stronger and Ren will just be gone.
He’s doing what he can. But with Ren now showing interest in this Mooner thing Mumbo has going on and the growing branches of the spire, he doesn’t know if it’s enough. Mentally, he makes a list of people who might know more than him. Might. He’s guessing.
It’s all he can do at this point.
It will one day speak your words for you, my love

let’s not fall in love
Tumblr media
no comment, just best friend seo changbin || chan ver, minho ver, hyunjin ver
// kiss kiss fall in love with changbin
fluff, mutual pining, best friends-to-lovers, i swear it’s not as angsty as the title seems
description: Changbin could always trust you to over analyse a heartbreak song and make it hopeful. He’s entirely to blame for that though, all his playlists for you are full of sappy love songs.
w.c.: ~1.6k
Tumblr media
What is the standard for someone to be considered selfish when it comes to love? And when do you know to step in and make a move to pursue someone you love? What does it mean when people say they are “in love”? More importantly, how do you know you are “in love” with someone?
You’ve always been curious about it, never fully understanding how people could romanticize a feeling so much that they’d turn it to a whole trope in multiple industries. It's both absurd and so vulnerable when you think about it.
Yes, a heart has always been a heavy burden. Oftentimes, people take the risk to entrust it to others in order to ease some of the burden, ultimately baring it to the jarring reality that is the world we live in.
But you guess that's the beauty of it; to blindly trust someone with something so fragile in hopes of the other party to return that trust, hoping that they'll nurture and protect your heart as you would theirs. It's an experience that you would deem quite peculiar as a witness, but know it would be even more complex when it would happen to you.
You wonder if he knows what it's like.
***
It all started on the bus.
The last trip to your place, the same desolate one you always took right after your 10 pm shift at the local coffee shop. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, really. The streets were still bustling with relatively dense traffic in the middle of it all, no clouds roamed the starless city sky, nor had there been an unwanted buffering of the Spotify playlist (courtesy of you actually remembering to download it offline for once) Changbin put together for the campus radio show. It was just you and him casually leaning against each other seated in the middle of the bus to your apartment, desperately trying to keep awake in fear of missing your stop.
And then that song played on your shared earphones.
Let's not fall in love
We don’t know each other very well yet
Actually, I’m a little scared,
I’m sorry
At first you thought nothing of it as your best friend wordlessly tilted your head to finally succumb onto his shoulder, granting you a bit of time and comfort to fall asleep. Your mind skipped over the gentle caress of his lips on your head and chose to focus on the rumble of his chest when he began quietly singing along the words, humming the lines he didn't know the lyrics to. The entire moment felt natural, like everything had just fallen in place.
With tired smiles, you bade each other good night as you parted ways in front of your apartment door. Changbin found himself humming that same song all the way to his dorms.
Soon enough (about a couple of days later), it began to linger at the back of your head. Sometimes it would come to light right after you met eyes with Changbin, a feat that normally wouldn’t make you as flustered and confused as you had then.
But still, you tried not to think much of it.
15:32
[bin🐷🐰]: you still up for dinner with the boys?
[you]: if you pick me up at the library
[bin🐷🐰]: be there in 5
"Falling in love" is a concept you’re still unfamiliar with. The whole falling action made it seem like it would always be a painful experience, especially if both parties would be falling for who was to catch them then?
15:33
[you]: i was kidding!
[bin🐷🐰]: too bad, i'm already on my way
Is it important that you were falling when you ended up "in love"? Or is that just simply part of the saying and, therefore, had no contribution to the feeling of being "in love" whatsoever?
You're sure you have things that you love wholeheartedly – like going on walks under the moon, or resting your head on your favorite pillow after a long day. But is that the same as "being in love"?
***
Changbin shot you a small smile across the room when he found you in your regular spot in the library. You're pretty sure you love Changbin's smile, although you're not sure if that counts as a part of falling in love with him.
If you were falling in love with him.
"Philosophy again?"
You shook your head, smiling and meeting his gaze as he sat down across you. "Organic chem."
If someone were to ask you how you came to befriend Changbin, you’d probably tell them that you two just clicked. You didn’t really bother to come up with some deeper explanation because you never needed it; you just clicked ─ as simple as that.
He hummed, burrowing his head between his arms. "Will you be for a while?"
"A couple more questions and I'm done."
Now if someone asked you to list what you liked about Changbin, you’d most likely hold back saying some things. “He’s a good listener” or “he's very dedicated to his craft" were ones you often threw out because he genuinely was. What you really really liked about him though was that he wasn't afraid to be vulnerable in front of you and admit his flaws; some of the most truly admirable traits of his that you're not certain he shows to others, so you don't tell anyone about them.
Was that selfish? Perhaps. Or maybe just very normal and you’re over analyzing things again.
The next time you raised your head to look at him, you’re met with his figure slumped over and lightly napping. Sighing, you reached over to push a piece of his newly dyed hair away from his closed eyes. Leaving a feather-light kiss on his forehead, you smiled.
“You really didn’t have to come, buddy.”
And he shifted his head to smile meekly against the underside of his elbow, eyes still shut and just pleasantly melting under your hand that was slowly stroking his hair. "I wanted to."
As you packed up to leave you decided that maybe you could fall in love with Changbin's smile even if he hid it from you. Whatever that meant.
***
Changbin is surprisingly and unexpectedly more romantic than you gave him credit for.
Once, he tells you after a really late night snack run that he loved the feeling of love, but he's yet to fall in love. "Ah, that sounds something like a hopeless romantic would say, right?"
You only shrug, disagreeing. "It sounds logical to me."
Yet you still wonder what it meant to fall in love and at this point you’re convinced Changbin is still wondering too. You welcome that thought easily, just like you welcomed his unexpected kiss on your temple when he bade you goodbye that early morning.
Whoever coined the term “falling in love” must have felt something so intense that they had to encapsulate it to such a vulnerable action. Much like you and Changbin, you note, whenever you come back to the other like they’re home.
***
Let’s not make promises,
You never know when tomorrow comes
But I really mean it when I say
I like you
The realization hit with that very song blasting through your phone’s speakers one awfully pink late afternoon on your bedroom floor, Changbin’s head lay beside yours as you two killed time by slowly becoming one with the carpet. You had set it as your ringtone for him a few days back, without him knowing of course. He plays it right after the last chorus of Jisung’s new song, asking if you still listened to it until now.
“You know, this song is so painfully wrong about falling in love.” You point out and he turns his head to look directly at your forehead.
“How so?”
“I’m not saying I have any experience with falling in love, but I don’t think that’s how it works.” Sitting up, you move to sit closer to him. He stares up at you in question and you reach for his hand, unable to stop yourself from smiling. “It’s more like this.”
Shifting his attention from your face to your hand in his, he lets his fingers slip to twine with yours. “Like this?”
“Like this.” Leaning down, you press your lips against his almost experimentally before you feel his free hand rest atop your head. It’s gentle and warm and fulfilling and so Changbin.
He parts from the kiss first, eyes still closed when he asks, “Have you been thinking about that all this time?”
You hum against his lips before lightly shaking your head, “Not as much as I’ve been thinking about you, no.”
He smiles and leans in once more.
***
What is the standard for someone to be considered selfish when it comes to love? You can’t be selfish when you love because, then, it wouldn’t be love. Just wanting.
And when do you know to step in and make a move to pursue someone you love? Loving someone will always come unexpectedly, so whichever way you choose to love them or whatever circumstances led you to love them now, do it with all of your heart. Even if it takes forever and a day for them to see that.
What does it mean when people say they are “in love”? More importantly, how do you know you are “in love” with someone? Who knows honestly? It’s different for everyone and you can never speak for someone else’s love.
Maybe in some alternate universe things didn’t go the way it was supposed to go. Maybe in another lifetime there was no you and him. Or maybe there was such a thing as fate and destiny, and maybe you were really meant to fall in love.
Then again, you should never overthink matters concerning the heart, it just comes and goes as it pleases. Plus, you’re pretty sure you were already in love with him when you met Seo Changbin, just as he was in love with you now.

It’s the final day of doing my yet again botched attempt at a review series and I’ve been dying to post my gigantic write-up for my newly beloved Italy, at the top of the bookies, darling of all hearts, ready to rock Eurovision, and even more! Vai vai~
ARTIST & ENTRY INFO
Representing them this year is Måneskin, a band made up of four - singer and possibly the hottest motherfucker to grace the planet Earth Damiano, guitarist Thomas, drummer Ethan, and the cherry on top - bassist Victoria, whose half-Danish heritage is the reason Måneskin is called Måneskin (= Moonshine). They thought of this name at a “battle of the bands” that they won, thinking they might as well change it to something different, but in the end... say it with me now
Tumblr media
They have known each other since highschool, made a band in 2016, won the “battle of the bands”, started out making a living as buskers in the streets of Rome, from which they gradually grew through playing small gigs, and later tried out for X Factor Italia season 11, on which they came 2nd.
youtube
They went on to release an EP titled after their debut single of the name of the song above, including some of their X Factor covers, and later on got to get big through releasing an album, getting it certified all kinds of goodnesses, having singles from that album be popular, even releasing a documentary of themselves... they’ve done so much in life and they’re only 20-22 years old... aw man, the life is just ahead of them, for them to be so young and win Sanremo on their first try. (And I’ve always wanted them for Eurovision ever since I was aware of their existence, because their music is very nice, and they just feel like charming human beings. So imagine my joy seeing them announced for Sanremo 2021? And them WINNING months later??? man what kind of luck do I have even if just for a year lmao <333)
“Zitti e buoni”, the last song title alphabetically this year, is purely of the band’s making, and the lyrics are talking about not abiding the rules in general, how they’re out of their minds but they’re not like “them”, and how people talk but don’t know what they’re talking at all.
REVIEW
IT’S A PRETTY CRAZY GOOD ROCK SONG AMEN HALLELUJAH OPRAH WOOOOOOO
wbk I love it. Yeah sure it might be composited of something that sounds like standard rock riffs and what not, but it’s the ENERGY that goes into it that gets me more excited for this than for Finland, a fellow rock song of this year’s final.
Damiano’s vocals have the specific kind of rockstar tinge to them, and they’re very complimenting to the song. The way he says everything is beautiful, the “e buonasera signore e signori” line in particular is just a moment that shows the beginning of power somehow, I don’t know. The chorus is great, eventhough it’s just one line repeated but it changes the pronoun each time (going from “I’m out of my mind” to “you’re out of your mind” to “we’re out of my mind”) - MAGICAL.
And the bridge. YES, the bridge. Along with the outro it’s the best part of the song. The chord progression. The lines repeated on that bridge. The emotions going on. The delivery of the lines of the emotion. It’s a convincing little bridge, to the point that it sounds just as great with violins! Wish they brought one, because according to Love Love Peace Peace, nothing screams winner quite like a violin.
God damn to the Måneskinsters pump this song up to the maximum. It was originally a ballad song, and I think that’s for the better for them to present it as a rock song, because a Sanremo ballad in a pool of Sanremo ballads... unless it stands out according to demoscopic & press juries, and there seems to be a no better option at hand that could make them stand out other than just sending a classy ballad, it just fizzles out in a spectacularly lame fashion. Måneskin’s one real shot through was with a song that would make them stand out, and they did it, and they’re here.
Everyone has put in their work, their passion, their skills into this, and it shows off in spades. Måneskin themselves are fantastic and chill human beings, who too, just like Flo Rida, get to enjoy how crazy amazing Eurovision experience is. And for that I salute them with my whole heart. Whatever they do tonight on Eurovision, they’ll leave a lasting mark in it. And for a good reason.
Also an Italian Eurovision edit that doesn’t suck, once again, yay! (In their defense, they didn’t have a whole lot to work with, so they released theirs early - just a few trimmings here and there, and a lyric change so that they skate by EBU easier with their anti-swearing policies. Gahddamn swearing~)
Approval factor: FUCK YES Follow-up factor: The funny thing about this is that last year their entry is about making noise but the song was a love ballad, this year it’s a song titled “shut up and behave” while dressed in a loudest motherfucking musical setting lol. Fuck the rules! It was solely on the Sanremo’s last year’s winner Diodato not to send an entry he thought that would fit for Sanremo, and that’s good on him - he can return next year replenished as all hell, and maybe aim for the trophy again? wishful thinking? aaaa. Anyway on a personal scale “Zitti e buoni” is a marvelous follow-up from “Fai rumore”, even if skipping 2020 entirely, especially after “Soldi”, which was already a fab follow-up after “Non mi avete fatto niente”, and even from “Occidentali’s Karma” on. And so it is subjectively a good follow-up. Italy SLAYS. AQ factor: As I write this, the odds are very much in their favour, if not a little bit too persuaded over the fact that Måneskin gave a good rock performance and knew what they would be doing, or it’s just that the Italians like overbetting for their acts way too damn much. But nevertheless, I just wanna hope for them to break the expectations people set on rock songs in Eurovision and SMASH themselves a victory. Or a top 2. Or a top 5-10. Anything will do, goddamn.
NF CORNER
Well, I promised that I will talk about Sanremo in a NF corner, because this is the first year I actually cared to watch it myself, unlike when I would’ve sided with someone whose reviewing style I love in not caring to watch it, and usually just check all the songs on the last day lol.
One thing about Sanremo that I sorely underestimate is that a handful of artists on there can come across as very versatile, and the one song you loved of one genre they presented several years ago, can be completely different and leave you baffled for days if you’re not very familiarized with their discography and the Italian music scene in general. Which now I’m going to pay an extreme amount of attention towards following Sanremo 2022 on out because hot damn did I never see gems like Willie Peyote coming!
youtube
Did I call him a gem over his entry? Yes, somehow. Am I even sure if I’m being serious?
I think I can somewhat agree when I say that for the international fam watching Sanremo at least, “Mai dire mai (La locura)” was a major expectation destroyer, at least for the crowd whose main lookouts in a lineup like this years were Ermal Meta, Annalisa, Arisa, etc. You know they’re gonna bring a ballad, and their ballads are usually decent, but what about the unexpected? That’s where a handful of acts, including Willie, comes in for me. The bass hooks in the second the song starts. The beat is minimalistic but strong enough to slap. The steady rap flow is mesmerizing, paired with that somewhat specifically Italian(?) vocal timbre. The chorus is greatly catchy, and it is a sung chorus, with this song still being largely a rap song. The electric-esque guitar soundwaves interspersed throughout the song are magnificent and magical, and on the chorus they even make a constant melody riff that repeats and may get annoying on multiple listens, but I still adore them. I really love the bridge as well and all that goes into it. A fantastic surprise of the season for me personally.
Now I figure that the lyrics may hinder the enjoyment for some, especially the points raised in some lines that may seem questionable and shady (if this went to Eurovision and got a “twerking” comment on Youtube, I will not be surprised if the description of choice is “patriarchic twerking”), but am I supposed to be fully offended at some points of it if I’m not its target audience, although I see some of what I do nowadays in those lines? “Mai dire mai” is probably dedicated to the Italian media and the Italian trends and what not. I’m not even disappointed it didn’t win, because if it went to Eurovision, it would’ve likely been met like a lesser “Occidentali’s Karma” - catchy song with lyrics that fly over listener’s heads which might as well be very accidentally mocking how we live our lives.
“Mai dire mai” has just less of a memorability-in-history value and no memorable gimmicks (Francesco had a gorilla, what is it visually going for on Willie’s performance?), besides, it would’ve suffered even WORSE post-Eurovision-edit than OK has - a lot of the bits and bobs that pass me by but when I notice them they make a really great entry, but other than the (presumably copyrighted) removal of a sample from a TV series (spoken by a fish character, nonetheless), what else is there to remove???? With Eurovision’s rules specifying that brands (Spotify, TikTok) and swearwords (lots of the good old Italian ones that Italian radios would digitally scratch out to emphasize that there were a LOT in the second verse) can’t be sung live, the song loses some of its lyrical charm. And you can’t just go around the song like Francesco Gabbani chopping off entire verses full of content full of witty lyrics and a reference to Chanel in order to present the more lyrically singable-along-to lines and not let go of the long chorus to whom his gorilla can dance to. “Mai dire mai” is RIFE with lyrics, that’s what a rap song is. It would have absolutely fallen apart.
Also no one paged it as a potential Eurovision winner during Sanremo, at least seriously, and it doesn’t have much that would have clicked with the future Eurovision generation and contestants when they would be asked to name their favourite Eurovision song of all times. In a world where from Italy they really like “Grande amore” and “Soldi” and even sometimes could name “Occidentali’s Karma”, is there really a place for “Mai dire mai (La locura)” over “Zitti e buoni”? Who would be naming that song as their favourite of all time? If you raised a hand, you lie to yourself, because that would’ve been me.
Now I don’t know how many of the Tumblr fam would draw ire at me putting out paragraphs worth of me being ultra positive towards this song, because as I’ve learned, there’s an ironic and unironic audience for Mr. Peyote on Tumblr especially, but for me I guess it was pretty worthy, also a thing I was finally able to yell off my chest since, and now I finally said it, I will continue streaming “Mai dire mai (La locura)” in peace.
He might’ve not won Sanremo, but his song won the equally important Mia Martini Critics Award, and also, my heart. Rest in broken shards of the Boris aquarium, my sweet cynical prince~
Tumblr media
Måneskin were my 2nd after him so I’m equally happy they won. But what about my other favourites?
• Extraliscio ft. Davide Toffolo - Bianca luce nera A diluted version of the liscio genre, still makes for a very fascinatingly catchy and swaying song with lots of great instruments that are violins and a clarinet. What I figure is kinda a love song. Their performances were also great, with lots of dancers on stage and a genuinely great fun to be had, and you may remember them more after their performance in cover night, which was titled “Rosamunda”. They were the ones with their main singer’s guitar spinning for whatever reason that was there to make their song catchy, I guess.
• Lo Stato Sociale - Combat Pop A little bit of a far cry from their glory heydays with 2nd place in Sanremo 2018, but they returned with an equally banging song and an amazing set of performance chaos they brought in each and every time - dedicating their first night’s one to making a performance to not forget (and being the ones of two to reference the great Bugo&Morgan incident from last year, the other being Willie Peyote), the second competitive one was for referencing politics, and so on.
• Colapesce & Dimartino - Musica leggerissima Sweet melancholic song with the shades of Sebastien Tellier kinda sound, this song may seem jolly at first, but the especially melancholic undertones denote that there’s something else going on. It’s actually about depression, as that’s what the term “musica leggerissima” (very light music) means. But it still found a heart in Italian listeners and the Italian world finally woke up to how great Antonio Di Martino and Lorenzo “Colapesce” Urciullo are, and a handful of viewers were slightly heartbroken to see it not place in the superfinal top 3. Who knows if they would’ve actually won over Måneskin. I just know that their rollerskater girlie is so damn fine~
Tumblr media
Bugo has also returned but I think his redemption arc started off the wrong foot, as his return entry, “E invece si”, was a bloated showtune ballad and got obnoxious to listen to at part. I declared to myself that night when I first heard the new entry that regarding on what made “Sincero” great, I side with Morgan.
And a special shout out to Ghemon, whose 2019 song was more than just a “purple rose” unlike I noted on a last proper Italian entry review. I don’t know what expectations I had for him, but I certainly wanted to love “Momento perfetto” more at the first listen, which was also somewhat of a show-tuney piece, but with a bit more funk and pizzazz, also Ghemon was VERY much vibing with his song, and that made me feel great for the few other performances of it that I saw the following days. It’s definitely a grower song, and around 2 months after Sanremo I fell into a bit of a rabbit-hole of his earlier music discovering, and I may be a bit exaggerating but, give Ghemon a bit more of acknowledgement and a stellar enough song, and with a little bit of magic touch, I can maybe see him lifting the Golden Lion trophy one day. Don’t ask why. (also lovely music video for his 2021 entry, which replaces continuous spinning in an aesthetic area to everybody moving their body in a diner (hopefully with everyone in the MV tested and been negative for long enough for the MV to actually happen).)
NF CORNER (NON-COMPETITIVE)
There’s so much needed to be discussed about there. So I’ll restrict myself to the moments that I remember and cherish:
• Rosario Fiorello. Just. Him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• And the gentleman next to him, Achille Lauro.
Tumblr media
tw // body piercing
Tumblr media
Belarus 2018 could never
Fiorello and Lauro are perfect matches to each other’s worlds of imagination, and I was more than ever glad to see so much creativity coming from each one of them, a host and a nightly interval act respectively.
• Once again, “Rosamunda Medley” by Extraliscio, I didn’t watch the cover night in its entirety but I think it’s good enough of a medley if it got a 3rd place from the cover night from the orchestra!
• Sanremo Newcomers section of this year. I liked or vibed to almost every song out of the 8, and I’m decently happy with the winner, but if there’s one big shoutout I really want to make, is to “Regina” by Davide Shorty, for it’s such a cozy funky little love song that always makes me happy when I hear it. My personal winner preference, but I don’t mind Davide getting 2nd! For as long as he gets to place 1st in a future main Sanremo event hihihihihi
youtube
• Diodato proving himself to be a dance king at the beginning of his “Che vita meravigliosa” performance, my good Twitter friend made a bunch of videos where he dances to a lot of songs, as per request, check them out and you won’t forget it.
• Since Sanremo 2021 got rid of the audience as per COVID regulations and much to Amadeus’s dread, there ended up quite a handful of audience related memes. Such as the penis balloon et al.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Remember when Sanremo 2021 audience was supposed to be whisked away in a cruise ship for safety measures? Pepperidge Farm remembers
• SESSO IBUPROFENEEEEEEEE
Tumblr media
The guy that sang this song actually has the same birthday as me, so in my eyes, I feel like he has some charm to it. I’m biased lol sorry
There’s way too many more but I am afraid of flooding my post beyond your readability interest. Let’s hope that, in an event of Italy’s victory or non, we’ll get to see an even more iconic event of Sanremo emerge come the future. <3
ANY LAST WORDS?
Måneskin’s big goal was to rock Eurovision, and I think they’ve greatly accomplished that by just... doing what they do best, and that is, rocking. They leave energy lasting for days.
In bocca al lupo, fam. You’ll nail it, and even if you don’t win, Italy shouldn’t not hail you as national heroes after it’s all over.

paper rings | peter parker (soulmate au)
Tomorrow was your seventeenth birthday. You were finally going to be linked to your soulmate. Everyone’s connection was different. Some saw specific colors, others shared emotions. Your parents had been the latter. The bond does not show itself until both soulmates are seventeen. You will admit that your heart was yearning and hoping that it would be one specific person. Peter Parker. You were in the same chemistry class as the honey-eyed brunette. The pair of you have never exchanged more than a few words to each other in the two years that you had been classmates, much to your dismay. From the second that you had laid your eyes on him freshman year, you had been his. Today, walking into school had been anxiety ridden for you. While on the train to school, your head was taken up with the thought of soulmates.
Would your infatuation with Peter suddenly disappear? What if it didn’t? Wouldn’t your soulmate eventually find out your affection was so focused on someone else? What if Peter was your soulmate?
No, that is just wishful thinking on your part. Walking up the stone steps, you reached the entrance of Midtown High. As cliche as it sounds, you felt your heart skip a few beats as you walked through the double doors. Peter was standing by his locker, shifting through stacks of paper, with a pen loosely hanging between his lips. Feeling your stare, he looked up and gave you a lopsided smile that wrapped your heart in warmth. Quickly, your eyes flutter towards the grounds as you feel your cheeks heat up at being caught. Walking past him, you flash him a smile as you go to find MJ, who would surely be waiting for you by your locker. You greet her with a flustered smile and she eyes you suspiciously.
“What’s up with you? Your cheeks are the color of strawberries.” She lifts a finger and pokes at your left cheek.
“It’s nothing.” You assure her as you hide your face behind your locker door.
“Mhm, this wouldn't have anything to do with a certain nerd named Peter Parker, now would it? She says with a smirk lighting up her features. “You know, if you just talked to him you could already be his girlfriend.”
“As if, MJ.” You scoff at her. You and Peter are barely acquaintances at this point in time. He would smile at you when you make eye contact and make small talk at the science tables, but that was the extent of it. You were his chemistry seat partner, that’s all.
“What do you mean? Never forget that you’re the one that’s out of his league.”
“Sure,” You sigh. MJ had always seen the best in people, even if she was a tad guarded. “Tomorrow is my birthday anyways. I’m gonna find my soulmate.” You do smile a little at the thought. It is important to be independent, but it would be nice to find a forever with someone.
The two of you walk to English and take your seats.
The day passes by, and you are finally on your way home. Your apartment was empty, there was a note on the counter from your parents saying they wouldn’t be home for dinner and that there was money on the table for pizza. They were rarely ever home, due to their busy work schedules, but you were used to it. Kicking off your shoes, you make your way to your bedroom to start your homework. As the time goes by, you try not to stress about your soulmate situation. The closer it got to 12, the more anxious you became. Finally, the moment had come as your clock switched from pm to am. You let out a breath and waited. Nothing happened. You didn’t feel any different. Furrowing your brows, you go to the mirror to search for some marking, which was the most common form of soulmate matching. There was nothing to be found. You sat on your bed hoping to feel anything from your soulmate’s end. All you could feel and hear was silence. Maybe your soulmate hadn’t turned seventeen yet. Then a terrible thought had occurred to you. What if you had no soulmate? It was rare but there had been a few cases of people who had no bond. You were reaching all kinds of scenarios in your head when you heard your parents walk through the front door. You rush under the covers and pretend to be asleep, so they don’t ask you questions that would make you cry in your fragile state. You hear the door open and hushed whispers are shared, before it is closed once again. Falling asleep, you try not to focus on the worst case scenarios.
You are woken up by a loud voice. Startled, you glance over at your clock to see that it is 3am. There are two voices speaking about salicylic acid? Confusion and alarm are at the forefront of your emotions. There was no radio on, yet the voices continue to converse about science. Opening your window, you stick your head out and try to find the source, but the voices seemed to be directly in your head. An epiphany strikes you. It has to be your soulmate bond. A smile lights up your features as you finally understand. It was a rare connection to have. Music. You and your soulmate could hear whatever music- or in your case, podcast- the other was listening to. An excited giggle forces it way out of your throat as you listen to scientific procedures. Why your soulmate would be up at 3am and listening to a science podcast was beyond you, but you were relieved to know that you were not without a soulmate. You thought about putting on your own music to let them know that you were there, but you didn’t want to disturb your other half. Your eyelids grow heavy and you are once again drifting back to sleep with thoughts of the periodic table.
Waking up at 6 am on a Saturday with just 4 hours of sleep under your belt was not difficult to do when you were excited for the prospect of hearing whatever your soulmate heard. There had been no new sounds in your mind since this morning, but you knew that if you began listening to a song, they would hear it and be as surprised as you had been. You had spent the morning racking your brain for the perfect song to play your soulmate. Nothing too heavy, you wanted a soft introduction. Searching your Spotify playlist, you found the perfect song. Holding your breath, you press play on Taylor Swift’s Invisible String. The intro starts and you wait. The song plays and finishes without interruption. You don’t play anything, hoping for some sort of response. Your heart is beating out of your chest as the same opening intro is played back before stopping. It worked, they had heard you! Excitement coursed through your veins. Freaking out, you look for another song to play for your soulmate. After half an hour, there had been no response. You were disappointed, but you brushed it off as your soulmate just getting busy. Around 8, you decided to take a quick shower. Normally, you would be playing music and singing in the shower, but you didn’t want to bother or annoy your soulmate. The silence was awkward for you. Brushing your hair, you decided to throw caution to the wind and play your everyday playlist. The soft sound of Clairo’s Bags fills the room. You keep the volume low as you hum and sing along. Then, Paper Rings starts playing and you can’t help but turn it up a little and sing into your hairbrush. You finish your nightly routine and head to bed. The weekend went by with no sounds on your soulmate’s end. It was frustrating to say the least, but you tried not to get worked up about it. Lover had been your album of choice for the weekend. Paper Rings had been on repeat for almost 2 days straight. You couldn’t help it. The song just elevated your mood. And with the mountain of assignments you had to do, you needed the boost. You popped your headphones in and started your walk to school. Taylor Swift accompanies you through your subway stops. Walking through the doors, your eyes immediately go to Peter’s locker. He’s standing and talking to Ned. He looks up when you enter and waves at you. You take out your headphones and pause your music to wave back at him. His hand stops its movement as soon as you begin waving back. He seems to be frozen in place as his mouth parts in disbelief. You drop your hand and your smile, thinking that you had done something wrong and cringe internally. Wrapping up your headphones, you walk past Peter, whose eyes are following you. His expression stays the same. Turning the corner, you run to MJ, telling her about your soulmate and your bizarre interaction with Peter.
“Wait,” she interrupts your rambling about how Peter reacted to your wave. “You waved at Peter? That’s so unlike you. Maybe that’s why he freaked.”
Thinking about it, Peter doesn’t usually wave at you when you walk in. Normally the two of you would exchange only a smile in the mornings.
Sliding into your seat in Chemistry, your leg bounces as you psych yourself up to talk to Peter. You wanted to get past the shy responses you always gave him. Having a soulmate had built up your confidence and you were ready to try and be Peter’s friend. You catch his eyes as he walks through the door frame and into the classroom. Your heart flutters, but you will the feeling away. You had a soulmate out there and it was not Peter Parker. This time it is him who averts his gaze and blushes. He walks down the aisle to his normal seat next to you. For some reason, you are hyper aware of his proximity today and you want nothing more than to melt into his side. You shake the thought from your head. What is up with you today? You turn to him.
“Hi, Peter.” Your voice sounds small amongst the loudness of the room, but his head perks up to look at you.
“Hi, Y/N. Wow, you’ve never been the one to talk first.” He laughs, but stops as he sees your face fall. You hadn’t wanted to seem standoffish, you were just painfully shy around him.
“I’m sorry, I-I” You blush a scarlet red as you stumble over your words.
“N-No, don’t apologize. It was just surprising. I’m glad you’re talking to me,” He assures you with a gentle, close-lipped smile and a hand on your arm. Warmth spreads around the area where his palm meets your cardigan. You could sigh at the feeling. “Happy Birthday, by the way. Big seventeen.” He rubs his neck.
“Yeah, thank you. I didn’t know you knew about my birthday.”
“MJ told me.” You nod at his rushed explanation and a comfortable silence washes over. Peter breaks it by asking you a question. “Sorry if it’s personal, but did you find out what your soulmate bond was? Y-you don’t have to answer, I’m just curious.”
Before you could answer, the teacher began explaining the assignment for today. You and Peter finished the paper just as the bell rang, signalling the end of the class period. Peter offers to walk with you to your locker. You nod in acceptance. You break the silence once you reach your locker.
“Um I did get my soulmate bond by the way, it’s bizarre. Mine is a music connection, but my soulmate has only listened to one science podcast so far. It was at 3 in the morning too.” You laugh and look over to see Peter looking at you with the same expression from this morning. You see him duck down to pull his phone out of his backpack and frantically untangle his headphones.
His movements were startling and you reached a hand out to his shoulder. “Are you okay, Peter?”
He doesn’t respond. His tongue pokes out of the side of his mouth, as he concentrates on his task. He finally untangles the knots and plugs in the wire, with the headphones situated in his ear. He taps away at the screen. All of a sudden, you hear the all too familiar opening of Paper Rings, your song of choice this past weekend. You gasp as Peter looks up at you and turns his phone around showing you the cover art to none other than Taylor Swift’s Lover album. You reach down and pause the song. Silence falls between the two of you as you try and process what had just happened.
“Y-You.. You’re m-my soulmate?” You know you must look insane, but there is so much happening in your mind that it’s a miracle you can even form the words.
Peter watches you carefully as he stands up. “Y-yeah, I mean, I had a suspicion from the weekend and this morning, but yeah. I h-hoped it was you.” He admits shyly.
Your heart could burst. Here was Peter Parker, the boy you had been hoping was your soulmate, admitting that he had hoped the same thing.  Here was Peter Parker, your soulmate. Before you can even process the words, they are coming out of your mouth in quick succession, “Can I kiss you?”
He seems a bit startled but recovers and gives a small nod. You reach up to wrap your arms around his neck and delicately press your lips to his. He is hesitant at first, but soon leans into the kiss and places his arms around your waist, bringing you closer to him. You pull away from lack of air, but press your foreheads together. Peter laughs.
You look up at him and smile. “What?”
“You really like Taylor Swift, don’t you? I’m tired of hearing that song bouncing around in my head. I don’t know how someone could listen to the same song for so long.”
“Shut up. You didn’t even listen to any music at all.”
“I didn’t want to disturb you. Plus, you listen to enough music for the both of us.”
He leans down again to place another kiss on your lips. His arms are still wrapped tightly around you. You were perfectly happy to stay in his embrace forever. Thanking the heaven’s for whoever was responsible for making him the perfect match for you, you kiss him back.
I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings
I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this
darling, you're the one I want
In paper rings in picture frames in all my dreams
You're the one I want

survey by starsareonly2nd
Have you ever been to Las Vegas? No. Doesn’t sound like my type of city. I wouldn’t mind visiting the rest of Nevada though.
What did you have for breakfast this morning? Just a cup of coffee; I skip breakfast except on Sundays, when we actually sit down at the dining table and eat as a family.
Do you have any loose change in your pocket? I don’t have any pockets right now but I do have very few coins in my wallet. I used to have plenty, but I’ve given most of them away because I usually give tips to the nice people who help me get out of parking spots.
Do you like Taylor Swift? I like some of her songs, especially the ones from 1989, but I have no idea why I just can’t get into her as a person.
What's your favorite Disney Channel movie? I haven’t tuned in to that channel for a very long time now, but the movies that I got the most excited about as a kid were Twitches, Wendy Wu, Camp Rock, The Cheetah Girls, and High School Musical 1 and 2.
If you met your favorite celebrity, would you be calm or star struck? I’d be starstruck in a calm way; like I’d most likely be too shocked to get more than a few words out. I’m sure I’d come off as shy or boring haha, which is why I’ve refused to meet or interact with my favorite celebrities even if I’ve already had the chance to.
Are there any lights on in the room you're in? I have a ceiling light and a desk lamp, but both are turned off. My only light source at the moment is my laptop screen.
What's your favorite subject in school? History.
What's your favorite holiday? My birthday, if that counts. Christmas can also be great but only for the food, the reunions with extended family, and the freedom to guiltlessly cut off contact with colleagues for a couple of weeks. All other aspects of it make me miserable though.
Do you ever have to do yard work? I’ve never had to do that before.
Is your school close to your house? I mean, it wasn’t a 10-minute walk away but it’s relatively close and driving to my university objectively doesn’t take too long unless there’s heavy traffic. If there’s absolutely no barriers I could get to school in 15-20 minutes, but this is really only just for weekends where I have to go to school for some reason. If there’s traffic (and there always is), I take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half.
Speaking of school, how did you get there today? I haven’t been to my school since the first week of March, and I’ve already graduated since then.
Do you think Bad Romance is a catchy song, or an annoying one? I can honestly tell you that I have genuinely never gotten sick of that song. It’s a late 2000s classic, man. Of course it was too explicit for my 11 year old ears when it first came out, but I found it catchy nonetheless.
Do you use perfect grammar online? I always try to be correct, yes. When I use improper grammar it’s usually because I’m joking.
Are you currently using a laptop? Yup.
Do you have any live versions of songs in your music software? I haven’t used iTunes in a while and Spotify, which I do use, doesn’t work that way.
Did/do you listen to Britney Spears songs? I’ve never skipped her singles whenever I caught them on the radio and I’ve always fairly enjoyed the music she puts out, but I normally don’t voluntarily listen to her i.e. look up her songs myself on Spotify.
Is it a windy day? It is now that it’s nighttime, but it was a little humid all day today.
In the past week, have you ridden in a taxi? No. I’m not actually sure if that’s even already allowed...the possibility of public transport is still pretty murky where I live.
What shorthand do you use the most? I have no idea what this means. I did try looking it up but I dunno if I’ve ever had to use shorthand at any point in my life.
Do you ever wish on stars at night? Every now and then, but it’s just the little kid in me.
What color are your eyes? Dark brown. I feel like I answer this at least once a week.
What album is the current song you're listening to off of? Not listening to music but the last song I heard is from an album called Petals For Armor.
What are you doing after you finish this? Try not to cry/break down. Find something to watch on YouTube. Maybe play with Cooper to destress and forget about my problems for a bit.
In your opinion, what song is the most overplayed right now? Other than songs I occasionally put on repeat, I have not heard any new music for a while now.
Are you in a band? Nope, never been.
How clean is your bedroom? We just tidied it up and rearranged a few things last month so I’d say it’s clean - at least tidier than it used to be. And I’m a little proud that despite how rough life has been, I’ve managed to keep it clean. It’s the little things.
Is there a pen within reaching distance of you? Yeah, there’s one on my desk and I can easily reach out and grab it.
Are you sitting at a desk? I’ve moved to my bed for now. My back does not appreciate sitting at a desk all day.
Does your favorite band have a male or female lead singer? Female.
Do you normally shut your bedroom door before you go to sleep? Yesssssssss. We have a light source by the stairs that extends to the hallway and reaches my room, so it gets super annoying if my door is even just slightly ajar because my eyes get distracted by the faint light. My door has to be completely shut for me to feel comfortable in the privacy of my room.
Have you seen the movie Moulin Rouge? I haven’t. I loooove Lady Marmalade, but I’m just not sure if the movie itself is my cup of tea.
Would you ever dye your hair a different color? I’d love to have the chance to do that, yeah.
Are there any framed pictures in the room you're in? There are a couple.
Have you ever been to a Broadway show? Nope.
Do you watch So You Think You Can Dance? I don’t think so but I do remember watching a few episodes of Dancing with the Stars because a wrestler that I liked was one of the contestants for one season. I’m just not sure of SYTYCD also featured wrestlers in their shows; if that has been the case in the past- and I’m just not sure because my memory is a little hazy - I would’ve given it a watch.
What's your favorite movie soundtrack? The Twilight Saga churned out some bomb ass soundtracks. Other than that, I also enjoyed Interstellar’s and Requiem for a Dream’s.
Do you prefer group or individual work? Depends on what kind of work needs to be done. If a task is graphic design or video editing-heavy, I would prefer to work with other people; but if it’s gonna be heavy on something that’s already my forte, I like to work by myself.
Do you have a key to anything besides your house? Just my car.
Are you wearing anything with stripes? Not at the moment.
What time did you go to sleep last night? 9:45 I think? A little later than 10? Somewhere along that range.
Did anyone tell you you were beautiful today? No.
What show did you last watch? Friends.
Do you think you'll do anymore surveys today? I doubt it. This one is already quite longer than the surveys I usually take.
What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Cookies and cream; and more recently, chocolate chip cookie dough.
When was the last time you stayed home from school sick? Sometime in February last year. I developed a fever the night before but wasn’t able to start feeling better by the next morning, so I had to skip the one class I had that day.
Could you ever complete a 500-piece puzzle? Yes. I’m actually planning to buy a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle; it’s one of the items I’ve put on my cart recently. Depressed Robyn is also spend-a-lot-of-money-on-artsy-craftsy-supplies-Robyn, so.
If you could run a red light and not get caught, would you? Hell no.
Do you like to listen to music as you do your homework? Not usually, but sometimes I’ll put on lo-fi since that’s the only kind of music I can listen to and still keep my focus.
Did you think Adam Lambert's AMA performance was really that controversial? I’ve never encountered it, but I doubt I’ll have a problem with it if I do get to watch the performance. I love Adam Lambert and I've never found myself shaking my head at whatever he’s doing.
Do any bands flat-out annoy you? They’re a boy band more than anything but The Vamps has consistently irritated me through the years.
Do you have a mirror in your bedroom? No. I used to, but I gave it to my sister.
Was today a birthday for any of your friends? I don’t think so. With all my social media being deactivated I never get notified about birthdays anymore, but I’m fairly sure none of my friends blow out their candles every October 22nd.
When was the last time you rode in a limo? I’ve never been in one.
Do you take naps daily? No. I can’t really do that anymore since I have an 8-hour shift on weekdays, lol.
Do you still make Christmas lists? No.
Do you watch the show Dexter? I tried getting into the show because it used to always be said in the same breath as Breaking Bad, but I never got invested. I heard later seasons sucked too, so that also turned me off from continuing to pursue the series.
What's the background on your phone? I have a motivational comic that says “You’re doing really well given the circumstances” as my lockscreen. Cooper smiling is my home screen.
When were/will you be a a sophomore in high school? That was six years ago.
Are you scared of any animals? Any flying insect or bug, and I find them scarier if they come with a loud buzz.
Have you ever been to any sort of convention? YouTube Fanfest, if that counts as one. I’m not really sure what counts as a convention haha, but that’s the closest thing I’ve got.
Which song did you last listen to on repeat? Why We Ever by Hayley Williams.
Where do you want to live when you grow up? I’ve stopped thinking about that for now. My focus has since shifted to asking myself if I’ll still even be alive in a few years...ugh, how far we’ve fallen.
Are you currently using a blanket? No. It’s not cold enough for a blanket yet, but maybe in a few hours.
Are there any songs that make you cry? A lot.
How many siblings do you have? Two.
What are you doing this weekend? I have no idea.
Do you prefer swimming at the beach or in a pool? BEEEEEEEEACH. Once I took my first dip in a beach, I never wanted to swim in a pool ever again.
When was the last time you had a haircut? March.
Which musical instrument do you think sounds the prettiest? Piano, saxophone, and violin. Can’t pick a favorite; I think they all sound beautiful.
Are you in band or chorus at your school? I was never in either.
Do you know what you want for Christmas? Yeah but they’re all intangible. I want to be happy, be at peace, normalcy, etc. I’ve stopped pining for presents, especially now that I can afford my own shit.
Do you watch fireworks on New Year's Eve? Always.
Is your birthday within the next three months? Nope. You’ll have to add three more months to that timeframe.
How long is the song you're listening to? No music.
Are you anticipating anything this week? I’m waiting for a couple of very specific emails to come in, and I hope they do before the week ends.
Is your mom or dad the older parent? My dad, but only by 8 months. They were born in the same year.
Have you taken the SATs yet? I never had to take them, but I heard they’re triiiiiiiicky.
Do you watch anything on E? We never had E! in our cable service but I like tuning into that channel whenever we stay at hotels because I get to watch KUWTK, hehe.
Are you going to get off the computer now that you've finished this? Most likely.

the extra long tag game ;)
Tumblr media
tagged by @yawnjunie thank you friend ;u; ily blu~
tagging @meiiyue @dulcaet @lordseochangbin (y’all don’t have to do it, i didn’t really know who to tag since my moots circle is small ;w; but i’d like to get to know you all more c: )
ONE
tell me the first song that made you stan your current fave group and why did your faves attract you so much?
firstly, i stan so many amazing groups. but, i’ll do the two i’ve been listening to frequently, or months, i should say.
for stray kids...hellevator was a piece that moved me a lot. i could feel their emotions, hardships, and experience through the lyrics :( the song really means a lot to me. i didn’t really get into them when they had the survival show, but i knew of their predebut show and their debut song. the time i finally got into them for real was last year, somewhere in august. it was during side effects era when i learned more about them. i didn’t really settle into their music yet since i was insistent on learning about who they were first. so, i got to know them before listening to the rest of their music :) my faves are changbin and chan :3
for ateez...their whole discography are bangers and i’ve never skipped any of their songs when i first listened to it D; but if i had to pick a song, it’s either twilight or utopia. i saw them during kcon 2019, but i wasn’t into them yet!! i got into ateez the beginning of this year actually. i saw their performance video for answer, and whoosh, i fell in love with the music and everything. i really love their music styles, especially the slower and softer songs? their dancing is insane too, all of them O_O i can’t fathom how much passion and energy they put into dancing, especially that ‘part’ in hala hala. my faves are san and seonghwa. fun fact: they were the ones that caught my attention first when i saw that ateez performance video that got me into them
TWO
rule: answer the ten questions and write your own!
what’s your unrealistic goal for life?
to have different career goals? i get sticking to one career you would choose for life, but, i’m a person who has an aspiration for arts and crafts/visual and performing arts. i’ve tried everything. ceramics, drawing, graphic design, photography, dance ;)
if you had known that we would be in a global pandemic, what’s one thing that you would’ve done before things shut down (if they have for you)?
well, i’m a home-body...so maybe go to the beach or mall with friends or cousins
what’s an unconventional thing that you carry around with you when you go out?
chapstick, i guess. i carry it in my jean pocket and it’s just lodged there looking pretty.
favourite type of plushies and why?
the huggable ones where i can use to comfort myself or just to hold :)
favourite song right now?
stay gold by bts
something that you’ve always wanted to learn?
how to make/compose music, the korean language, dance~ (pretty similar to blu’s lol)
tell a funny story about yourself (or just something that you’ve witnessed)
i was running upstairs to the second floor where my room was and one of my brothers was coming up as well. he was catching up to me fast so i speed ran upstairs and zoomed over to my other brother’s bathroom. i was wearing socks, so right when i stepped foot onto that bathroom floor, i slipped and landed on the ground.
headphones or speakers? why?
headphones to listen to music at night or for videos and speakers for computer games and etc :)
craving any food right now? what are you craving?
fettuccine alfredo
which music streaming platform do you prefer? why?
i’ve been using spotify. which is kind of ironic bc i didn’t get the point of why my friend uses spotify and pays for it. but look at me now haha. i prefer it over apple though, but i don’t particularly know why.
my questions to you:
1. what is your favorite scent?
2. what makes you laugh the most?
3. proudest accomplishment?
4. dream vacation spot?
5. favorite food to eat during breakfast?
6. any pet peeves?

Rammstein Family Game: Get to know me!
I was tagged by @notafraidofredyellowandblue and @endlich-allein thank you both for tagging me. 💕💕
Rules: There are no rules. Tag whoever you want. Don’t tag yourself. Tag yourself. You don’t have to answer all the questions. Do what you please. Have fun.
Created by: @vapor-stein
1. I’m curious: when did you discover Rammstein?
I’m not sure but maybe around/after 2009 when LIFAD came out I heard some of their songs. But only became a fan of them and started listening to their music a lot last year.
2. Tell me your story. How did you discover them?
I heard them first on the radio, and only really remembered it because my mom likes their music. Later I found the on Spotify.
3. Favourite song?
There are way too many lol, but at the moment los (the full band version) and spring.
4. Least favourite song? Come on. I know you have one.
Auslander, it’s not bad but I skip it pretty often.
5. Favourite album?
I love all the power that’s packed into Herzeleid and also the softer sounding(?It has benzin and Mann gegen mann... but you get it) Rosenrot.
6. Least favourite album?
LIFAD. Bit ironic that the album that introduced me to Rammstein ends up on he bottom. I love most of the songs on it but I just like the other albums more.
7. Something that speaks to you in the deepest sense of the word: a lyric? A specific song?
Donaukinder. Even if I don’t remember the cyanide spill, the Danube flows trough my city and it feels touching/a bit more personal.
8. Unpopular opinion about a member? A scandal? Anything?
I’ve seen some comments about people not liking the english part/singer of Stirb nicht von mir, though I don’t know if it counts as unpopular or not, but I think it’s pretty good. I’m sure the song feels different for people who are native english/german speakers and those whose mother language is something else. But I really liked the english-german, female-male singer contrast.
9. Have you ever seen them live? Tell me what you felt.
I’ve seen Lindemann and I hope the see them in July in Trondheim but corona...🤷‍♀️
10. Do you play any instruments? If you do can you play any song by them?
I used to play chello and now I play guitar though I’m not really good at it yet.
If you haven’t been tagged yet, I tag @thanatosx49 , @herrgott-gibt, @rammlanders , @jellybelly30 , @hanhan156 and anyone who wants to join in. 😊

tagged by the lovely @coffeexwhiskey thanks. This was fun.
1. Zodiac Sign: Virgo through and through. I used to deny it but no yeah I’m a total Virgo and proud of it.
2. Last thing I googled: well I google everything. To the point other people know I will and ask me to google stuff. Apparently it’s a Virgo thing too but the last thing I remember for sure. I was writing a board for work about Illnesses you can’t work with and was making sure I spelled Jaundice right.
3. Song stuck in my head: that damn Lizzo one. I just walk around telling people they could have had a bad bitch.
4. Favorite musicians: I kind of prefer songs over musicians but I do miss living in SoCal and going to see my fav singer songwriters all the time. I’ve seen Tyler Hilton and Tyrone Wells like 16 times each. Sometimes twice in one day. They aren’t as easy to see living in Central Oregon but I do what I can. I also love musicals. 90’s rap and 2000’s pop. Emo and rock were my 20’s faze. I will just listen to anything and everything.
5. Do you get asks: I used to back in my first round of tumblr posting about 6 or 7 years ago. Not so much now but I’m open to them.
6. Amount of 💤: if I’m being good and go to bed at 7:30 a good 8 hours but that never happens. I work at 4:30 in the morning 5 days a week so usually a good 5 to 6 will keep me sane.
7. Lucky number: 12. Don’t know why just have always liked it.
8. What are you wearing: a Star Wars Princess Leia sweatshirt and some black and grey star patterned leggings filled with holes from my dogs jumping on me. Also currently have a dog on my lap since I just got home from work and he’s excited.
9. Dream trip: I got to experience part of it last year finally going to Ireland. I very much want to live there. Next up I want to go to Scotland. France. Spain. Switzerland. And back to Ireland and Italy. Cities I really want to explore. London. Bristol(thank you Skins for this one) Paris. Venice. I get my bachelors next spring and I’m hopefully planning a trip for September.
10. Instruments you play: none. I mean I can play some stuff on the piano self taught and I can sing and dance. I had an awful music teacher as a child and it kind of scarred me from instruments but I still would love to learn the drums one day.
11. Languages you speak: English. I have leaned both Spanish and Italian but I understand it better than I can speak it. I need to hear more cause I’d love to be better at speaking it as I am both. Would also love to learn French one day.
12. Favorite song: oh man. I know it’s cheesy but Hallelujah any and every version. I also have a soft spot for Hometown Glory by Adele and Call your Girlfriend by Robyn.
13. Random fact: I own my house. Bought it on my own with stock from working at Starbucks for 17 years. Ironically my dream has always been to living in an apartment in a big city. There’s still time.
14. Cats or dogs: I’m an equal opportunist. I have 3 cats. Loki. Vader. Calypso. And two dogs. Rogue and Zeppelin. I guess it I had to pick I’m a cat person but my pups are my babes. I just like animals.
15. Aesthetic: I’m a bit of a mixed bag. I suffer from anxiety and depression so I can get super dark. But I love sunsets and sunrises and dancing like a fool. I lean to introvert but I love hanging out with friends and make them easily. I just suck at keeping up with them. I love love and yet have no desire to seek it. I’m all over the place but it’s me.
16. 🎶playlist on shuffle: gonna go ahead and shuffle my most played playlist on Spotify.
Chandelier- Sia. My goal is to one day work up the courage to do this one for karaoke. I love Sia though. When I lived in Long Beach my boss made me take a long break to listen to the radio and tell her who sang the song. It was Sia.
Hello-Adele. I refused to listen to this song when it came out. I just wasn’t in that head space for sad Adele. I heard it for the first time driving to work at 4 in the morning. Clearly I liked it.
Powerful-Major Lazer, Ellie Goulding. I’m a big fan of male/female singers collaborating. “There’s an energy when you hold me”. I just dig the lyrics.
Work It- Missy Elliot. I will literally stop what I’m doing and dance to this song when it comes on. If I’m at a club and we were talking I would be gone mid-sentence to the dance floor. This is my song!
Girls Chase Boys-Ingrid Michealson. It’s just catchy and fun to sing. I like it.
Home- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetics. If I was in a band this is the vibe I would want. Singing with a male vocalist and just vibing. I do hate the talking part though.
Butterfly-Crazytown. Ok this song is terrible but in that horribly good way. It reminds me of high school. Yeah. I’m a little old. But it’s so silly and I know all the words and I love just singing it loudly.
Stolen Dance- Milky Chance. I honestly haven’t listened to this in a long time. It was fun when it came out but then it was everywhere.
2 Heads-Coleman Hell. This song actually kind of makes me sad. It reminds me of my old roommates and inside jokes. We don’t really talk anymore. But that’s the joy of music. It can take you to happy and sad times. And though I get sad the times were happy.
When I was your Man- Bruno Mars. I never listen to this song and I have no idea how it got on my favorites yet I keep it there and skip over it.
So a bonus number 11.
Hometown Glory-Adele. I first heard this on Skins when Cassie runs through NYC. RIP Chris Miles. I loved it and even had it as a ringtone on my chocolat phone. People were like who is that. And look at Adele now.
tagging @qwillow @gendryadempsie @thereluctantbadger @valsore and pretty much anyone who wants go do it. Sorry if you’ve already been tagged.

Bon Iver’s hauntological i,i (William Fleming)
Tumblr media
Image Copyright: Bon Iver / Jagjaguwar
In this essay, William Fleming takes a detailed look at bon iver’s new album, i,i: through acid communist hauntology to oedipal melancholia and the future’s cybernetic fracture.
> This week I’ve been reading Mark Fisher and listening to Bon Iver’s new album on repeat so I combined the two.
-
> Mark Fisher, in his Ghosts of My Life (2014), laments the dearth of creativity in popular music after the turn of the century, the loss of experimentation and of hearing something New and Radical, and the persistent replication of past methods, sounds and images. Fisher was no Adorno though (I don’t think anyway?). His essays are emotive and developed from a deep desire for a compassionate politics; Ghosts evokes the pathos of his seminal Capitalist Realism (2009). One of the key themes associated with his work on pop culture, is the use of the Derridean term ‘Hauntology’: the haunted ontology of futures that never came to be, the spectral disturbance of time and place as the possibility of political becoming dissipates. As he details in Ghosts, Fisher initially used hauntology as a genre-defining term for music. He identified artists which were 'suffused with an overwhelming melancholy; and they were preoccupied with the way in which technology materialised memory', this results in us being made 'conscious of the playback systems’ and of ‘the difference between analogue and digital’, 'hovering' out of reach behind the media’. Fisher uses this conceptual framework to analyse a raft of musicians and their work but there is a consistent emphasis on the political narratives of class and race which shape these cultural offshoots.
> Despite being one of the biggest records of this summer – and thus perhaps a bit bait for me to discuss? – Bon Iver’s i,i bares all the hallmarks of the hauntological genre: melancholia, the clash of digital and analogue, anachronism, the suggestion of political solidarity, artistic experimentation.
-
> First a confession: I first listened to Bon Iver because, in 2011, there was a girl on twitter I fancied who posted a video to Birdy’s Skinny Love. Birdy’s rendition is a wisp of a song, sad and grasping and completely lost on a shallow sixteen-year old and probably rightfully so. Failing to select the next song, I’m guessing Bon Iver’s original version played. For the first time I felt I’d discovered adult Sad Music. None of the ghd straightened, dip-died, angst-ridden emo tunes I’d gotten into a few years prior to impress my first girlfriend; or the one ballad acting as the penultimate track on one of the indie-rock albums from my older brother’s excessive collection. (- Does anyone know how to recycle these properly?). I would wallow in performative sadness playing immediately gratuitous and instantly gratifying XBOX games, quickly repeating the heartbeating guitar of Lump Sum on For Emma, Forever Ago or the wails of Holocene from Bon Iver, Bon Iver as I pined for my yet-to-be second girlfriend.
> I went off Bon Iver for a few years: these days, the quiet acoustic melancholia of these first two albums doesn’t fit with any aspirational sense of masculinity of mine. Being a man and being non-toxically emotional isn’t about listening to acoustic guitars and barely audible snares whilst you lie sulking in your room or on the drizzled walk to the library or job you hate. Instead it’s about communication, solidarity and empathy – ‘I’d be happy as hell, if you stayed for tea’. And so, when 22, A Million came out I was into it. Everyone thought it was a bit shit the first time few times they listened to it but this gave me cover to pretentiously purvey that they just didn’t get it and listen to it over and over. It was still the same anguished voice of Justin Vernon – but it was finally coming to life. Revived through stretched synthesizers, neologisms which made you question the contributors on A-Z Lyrics, and deconstructed bass. The piano riff on 33 “God” interrupted by alien helium-infused voices and the stammering, looping saxophone of 45 are still highlights. Listening now, 22, A Million initiated the hauntology of Bon Iver.
-
> At times, i,i feels like Bon Iver’s latest album is a playback of their first album, but one done through a signal sent by an analogue walkie-talkie found on the abandoned spaceship from Alien: Isolation – itself maybe the most harrowing video-game I’ve ever played, one which is played in constant anticipation of being found. Listen to the intermittent signal of Holyfields,: the bleeps and radio fuzz a beacon we sent out into space, only for it to sporadically and hauntingly talk back at us – a cultural SOS signal.
> i,i is the same guitar riffs from albums one and two but cybernetically fractured through time. The same syncopated kick drum but ripped out from the mid noughties and dumped in a Iain M. Banks novel or an episode in Love, Death + Robots. Fisher, quoting Derrida, quoting Hamlet: ‘the time is out of joint’. In these time fractures, it’s not just the music’s original location which is torn into the future, but also objective fragments of past culture: the sax (Sh’Diah) and violin strings (Faith) torn from eras when politics and music were still intertwined.
> The first track on the album, Yi, is garbage. But it is orbital astro-garbage – a notable anthropocenic feedback loop! – sitting uncomfortably at the stratosphere of an album which explicitly reflects on ecological destruction. Yi’s inaudible conversation and the ‘Are you recording, Trevor?’ set it up as a soundcheck for the album too. Including a soundcheck evokes Vernon’s emphasis on the album as a performance piece in the accompanying mini-documentary Autumn. In the doc, Vernon mentions the problem of ‘How is it going to be played live?’. Immediately, we are forced to imagine i,i as more than just another album on Spotify.
> Yi bleeds into iMi, a psychedelic echo of a track built from interspersing a melancholic vocals/arpeggio combo and an encroaching synth/dub beat combo. We is similarly eclectic, digitalised vocals juxtaposing with endearing, major-key sax. Following is Holyfields,, perhaps the most alien but most beautiful song on the album.
-
> Hey, Ma is the headline single from the album. An ode to Vernon’s mother and a sense of the sunrise walk home after the summer party (I’ll try and avoid further seasonal references: the four albums are set up to represent the four seasons, i,i being autumn, but IMO this is pretty naff).
> There is a sense of time passing in Hey, Ma, a nostalgia for the yet to be – ‘Well you wanted it your whole life’ – but with this passing is a sense of desire – ‘I wanted all that mind, sugar / I want it all mine’ – and of becoming or evolving – ‘You’re back and forth with light’. Becoming is the famous Deleuzean postmodern motif; i.e. being is constantly flowing and reforming. Bon Iver’s becoming, however, is not a flow, but a hauntological wrench into the future state. The entire album feels as though you’re experiencing the tech-enhanced evolution of Bon Iver’s music. That skipping between soft indie and futuristic synth reminiscent of the OG Pokemon games when your Pokemon was evolving and it would flicker between its past and future states. But becoming is never complete. As Fisher highlights, ‘futuristic’ no longer refers to a time/space but is now merely an adjective. We’ll never hear the Bon Iver made entirely on digital tech.
> For Fisher, melancholia is a productive force of political resistance. He distances his ‘hauntological melancholia’ from that of Wendy Brown’s ‘left melancholia’ which ‘seems to exemplify the transition from desire (which in Lacanian terms is the desire to desire) to drive (an enjoyment of failure)’. Fisher’s melancholia, ‘by contrast, consists not in giving up on desire but in refusing to yield'. Under scrutiny, Bon Iver’s first two albums fail this melan-test – they are a spectacular, self-pitying self-indulgence. Self-pity as a common form of masochism. For Deleuze, thinking through Jung, thinking through Bergson (yeap, I know), masochism is always regressive, flipping the Oedipal on its head as a form of un-becoming.
> Is Vernon’s song to his mother a masochistic form of melancholia; a self-pitying reversal of the Oedipal? ‘I wanted a bath / “Tell the story or he goes”’; ‘Tall time to call your Ma / Hey Ma, hey Ma’. The type captured by Maggie Nelson in The Argonauts (2015) when reflecting on Ginsberg’s poem Kaddish, which is dripping in, in Nelson’s words, ‘misogynistic repulsion’. Or is Bon Iver’s a hauntological melancholia? One of stubborn resistance. The type of mother-son relationship photographed by Donald Weber in his response to Alison Sperling and Anna Volkmar’s conversation on the post-atomic (Kuntslicht, 39: 3/4). Weber’s photographs were taken over two years in Chernobyl. The, now fetishised, explosion in Chernobyl perhaps the example of the nuclear, a hauntological theme post-WWII, made material. The bursting of a political, biological and biopolitical reality which was never meant to be. Weber’s photo of a middle-aged man and his elderly mother is captioned: ‘Mothers sought to be photographed sitting close to their sons, in domestic scenes of proud companionability. Their eyes signal an unalterable communion. And more – elevation. A man’s mother transcends the material order, and rises easily above even the most squalid circumstances. It is the frank declaration of her biological supremacy: This is my child’. If it is this relationship captured in Hey, Ma, it may promise a spectre which can be made material. An artefact which can continue its evolution, its becoming. ‘Let me talk to em / Let me talk to ‘em all’.
> Finally, that Hey, Ma’s nostalgia is a culturally productive one is suggested by one of its more memorable lines: ‘I waited outside / I was tokin’ on dope / I hoped it all won’t go in a minute’. In Fisher’s posthumously published Unfinished Introduction to Acid Communism, he, when imagining the process of resistance and a new politics whilst citing Jefferson Cowie, writes 'these new kinds of workers – who “smoked dope, socialised interracially, and dreamed of a world in which work had some meaning” – wanted democratic control of both their workplace and their trade unions’. The curious, outdated use of ‘dope' in Vernon’s lyrics then mirrors Cowie’s use of 'dope', echoing Cowie’s nostalgia for a lost working-class culture of 1970s America. Fisher uses Cowie’s argument to piece together an acid communism, which I will return to, but this, surely consequential, similarity further constructs i,i as a contemporary hauntological album.
-
> Following Hey, Ma comes the Sunday-school piano of U (Man Like). Raising an image of a crisply ironed, white America, like that depicted in Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone (2000), which acts as a reminder that nostalgia isn’t always productive. However, the nostalgia is continued with Naeem ‘Oh, my mind, our kids got bigger/ … / You take me out to pasture now’. Fisher asks ‘is hauntology, as many of its critics have maintained, simply a name for nostalgia?’. However, he argues that it is not a ‘formal nostalgia’ but one of solidarity and of a longing for the process of social improvement. Naeem, despite its nostalgia, continues the flickering between hope and despair. The joyful ‘More love / More love / More love’ and ‘I can hear, I can hear’; the anguished ‘I can hear crying’ and ‘What’s there to pontificate on now? / There’s someone in my head’. The latent and angelic child-like choir on Naeem another hauntological theme. As Fisher declares, ‘no doubt there comes a point when every generation starts pining for the artefacts of its childhood’. However, Vernon’s evoking of childhood is one perhaps linked to the, at times damaging, trope of ‘future generations’ in environmentalism. It is still a political longing though – ‘I’d Occupy that’. Occupy: that great post-2008 political uprising which dissipated into a mere exemplar in an undergraduate geography textbook.
> Next, Faith brings back the aliens from 33 “God” but this time, for attention, they’ve brought their clean guitar and slowly morph into the catholic choir we began to hear on Naeem. God died and, despite the sexy, liquidity of our modernity, we miss him.
> Marion momentarily brings us back from the cybernetically fractured semi-future. Back to the £3-coffee coffee-shop where you’re telling your friend that you think you and that girl will probably get back together but you need the time to be right. The hope is sucked back out; we’re back in capitalist realism and Arctic Monkey’s fourth (fifth?) album. Luckily, Salem restarts the signal to bring us back from our self-pity, dragging us to the obfuscation we were enjoying. Salem’s witches are still here and they’re pretty good at Ableton.
> Next, Sh’Diah grows from an autotuned prayer – ‘Just calm down (calm down) / And she’ll find time for the Lord’ - into a yearning saxophone riff/rift. But, alas, RABi, the album’s final song, returns us to a blues guitar and Vernon’s vocals. If the oscillation between past and future throughout i,i was a dialectic, the depressing outcome is ‘consumer capitalism’s model of ordinariness' (Fisher) of the neoliberal present. As in Fisher’s hauntology, the technologically-infused creativity of i,i is a lost future. Watching Vernon being interviewed feels like this. He’s got the Pacific-North-West hipster look: vegan but drives a V6 truck. Goes to the craft brewer’s bar and talks about that latest public health campaign to encourage men to talk about mental health over a pint but refrains from actually talking about depression. (Maybe serving beer in 2/3rd schooners means you never end up getting to the important part of the conversation?)
-
> But why does it matter? Because it’s about political and cultural (and creative) imagination. Fisher’s last big, and tragically but appropriately unfinished, philosophy is that of Acid Communism. Maybe there is a future !
> Fisher mourned not only the flattening of pop music, but also the ‘culture constellated around music (fashion, discourse, cover art)’. In contrast to a digital album which you never perceive in any physical manner, Bon Iver have emphasised various forms of art in their work, ensuring a communal creativity. There are multiple iterations of the album cover art on public posters and on social media. More excitingly though, is the collaboration with WHITEvoid, a Berlin-based sculpture group/company, which is discussed on Autumn. Prepared for live performances, WHITEvoid have constructed an ensemble of floating mirrors and kinetic lighting made from ‘space-age metal’ and motion tracking sensors. An artistic contribution as ethereal and tech-enhanced as the accompanying music and one which aestheticises our material sciences. The lighting provided by WHITEvoid in collaboration with the experimentation in sound system, similarly shown on Autumn, constructs the performance of i,i as an ongoing innovation and experimentation. The effort put into the upcoming live performances of i,i ensure that it is a music to be experienced not merely consumed. In another discussion on Autumn, Michael Brown, Bon Iver’s Artistic Director, says ‘you have to be in the moment with other people, you have to be able to know that the person next to you is having the same communal experience’.
> In Krisis (2018:2), Matt Colquhoun sees acid communism as a “project beyond the pleasure principle” (2) and of an “experimental” politics. If the sounds of i,i are hauntological, then the spectre it suggests is one of acid communism. The acid is provided by its accompanying artistic experimentation and the communism is its emphasis on the political and the communal.

TTS songs ranking (s1&2)
Disclaimer, this is my own, personal opinion. By all means you can think this list is completely wrong! There are no right answers.
The songs I included are not background music (Rocks lead the way etc.). They are clearly pictured as an actual song in the series. This being said, I threw in the Friendship song and More of me just for good measures. I included reprises as their own song, since my opinion about the reprise might be a lot different from the ‘actual song’.
The ranking includes the music, vocals, animation in the background, and overall if the song was necessary (what it brings to the scene etc.) That being said, if I absolutely hate the song, yet the animation is beautiful, it won’t actually lift it upwards on the list.
Let’s begin, shall we? I probably forgot like one song anyway.
21.. Hook Foot’s Ballad
Let’s be honest with ourselves; this was never meant to be a good song. It just a silly little thing to show Hook Foot’s dedication towards his supposed love. It’s sort of cringy, but a lot of love songs thend to be that way. It’s not necessarily bad, but no one would listen to it just because. It’s that song in the Spotify list that we all just skip. Last place for the skip that didn’t have to exist.
-
20. Livin’ the dream
Alright, this is by no means a bad song even if it ranked this low. I think a big reason why this song is here, because of my dislike to really low, raspy male voices. Yes, it’s forgettable and kind of unnecessary, but why not. It’s catchy to an extent, lyrics aren’t bad. Therefore it’s a pretty neutral song to me.
-
19. Let me make you Proud
Alright, I can hear the fans screeching. Everyone knows I have a dislike towards Varian, but that has nothing with this song’s ranking. It’s an alright song, showcasing Varian’s trip from Old Corona to Corona. The song fits well to where it is, and it shows Varian’s need to ‘make his father proud.’ However, the song has always felt a bit bland to me. It’s not as forgettable as the two songs before, but I did not remember it was a thing until I opened my Spotify to list the songs. It sounds like it’s supposed to be a song for ending credits and nothing more.
-
18. Friendship song
I dislike too happy songs. They rarely go over the line, and this one dangles so close to the edge. The beat isn’t bad, but it feels like something out of My little pony (no shame I watch it too). It’s a nice addition, but I don’t know if it was needed. This is one of those song that I will skip. It’s just way too ‘sunshiney’ for the lack of better word.
-
17. I’ve got this
I thought this one would rank a lot higher than it did. I remember listening it to the first one and not getting it out of my head. It’s a nice fit to lower Rapunzel’s believe in herself as a ruler, and this song does it in two minutes. What can I say, it’s so catchy. I honestly have nothing more to add to ‘I’ve got this’. It seems that it’s more forgettable than I originally thought, and that is why it ended up this low on the list.
-
16. If I Could Take This Moment Back
I like it. There’s honestly nothing more to say. It’s a nice duet between both Rapunzel and Eugene, but it’s just nice. It merely brings anything more to the table. It’s sorta bittersweet with both melody and overall aesthetic. I get why people like this song - heck, it’s shipping material. But still. It’s shipping and it will forever to stay as “just shipping”.
-
15. Life After Happily Ever After
There’s a line between too much dialogue and just a good amount of dialogue in a song. This song just keeps going and going, because of it was a normal scene built as a song. This whole scene could have worked without the song easily, and that’s the main reason this ranked kind of low. If song is five minutes long, it better have a purpose, and this really doesn’t. It’s catchy, especially Eugine’s part, but it doesn’t make it much better.
-
14. Next Stop Anywhere (Reprise)
Heck, I like this one way less than I like Next Stop Anywhere. The reprise is so much more controlled in terms of excitement. It starts as this calm, peaceful melody, and then picks up speed towards the end. Even so, it stays controlled throughout the song. I love the way Eugene supports Raps in her journey, even if neither of them knows what lies at the end of their journey. I LOVE the lyrics in this one. It’s a really sweet reprise that compliment a the original Next Stop Anywhere. And why is this low, you might ask? I just like the other ones more :’D
-
13. More of me
I have honestly nothing to say about this one. It’s a good song, but not something I’d expect from Tangled the series. Another very neutral ending song that I don’t really have a good opinion to
-
12. Listen up
Another song I thought would be much higher (or at least in the top 10). It’s catchy, fun, has a nice instrument and good singers. Yet, it’s sort of forgettable. It’s not too important for the main plot either, so that might be one big reason why it’s so low.
-
11. Wind in My Hair
Wind in my hair is an a strange song. First I liked it, then I didn’t and now I kinda do again. It’s not a ‘musical’ song in my opinion, but an actual song that could play in the radio. In a way it holds no plot, and it doesn’t need to, because it’s job is kind of to be there for the intro. It’s placing is nice in the show, so I can’t hate on it. It’s a good song, but the finnish version has burnt into my brain too badly.
-
10. Buddy song
I know - this shouldn’t be as high as it is. I’m so mad it got to the top 10 :’D I fell in love with this one because of the beat in the background. It’s so stupid, and it’s even stupider that it works. The two singers harmonize very well, and make it overall enjoyable experience. It only gets better when you know they are basically high. This whole song is just a joke and I love it.
Tumblr media
9. Set yourself free
No idea how this ended up to here. There was a point where this was my least favorite Tangled song. Where the animation during this is pretty minimal because of the flashbacks, I love the animation of Rapunzel’s during: “You know that you are strong, you’ve known it all along, so seize the day, let down your hair..”. It’s an unnecessary flashback song, but heck it’s good. During it you can hear Rapunzel having enough of her father’s rules, and how she decides finally step up. Just a side note, I feel like it was a weird choice to leave the sound effects in the flashbacks.
Tumblr media
8. Everything I ever thought I knew
Honestly, at first I didn’t like the song. I’m not sure what made me dislike it, but overall it wasn’t anything special. The first verse still kinda lacks something, but the bridge and chorus are emotional and beautiful. The visuals are gorgeous, especially the black rock/flashback scene.
Tumblr media
7. Waiting in the wings
I was so confused when Waiting in the wings ended up this low. I never realized how much it sounded like “Everything I ever thought I knew” until now. They’re both bittersweet songs with the main thing being “I guess I can’t have anything good”. Eden Espinosa’s voice is absolutely angelic, and I love the lyrics. The second half of the song is gorgeous, but the first half lacks something. It reminds me of “Let me make you Proud” in a way. However, since this long literally made me cry the first time I heard it, there was no way to rank it as low. The fact that it’s as soft as it is, and it’s a Cassandra song, makes it so special to me.
Tumblr media
6. Wind in my hair (Reprise)
This is kind of mix between “Life After Happily Ever After” And “Wind in my hair”. I’ve always liked this reprise better than either of those songs. It starts peaceful, and picks up tempo as it goes. The lyrics are gorgeous, my favorite line being: “True I’m in here with those I hold dear, surrounded by their love. And for some that’s more than enough, no doubt.” It beats both original songs, because of the realization, that leaves the song kind of open at the end. It showcases that the adventure is only beginning.
Tumblr media
5. Let me make you proud (Reprise)
Now here is how you make a reprise. The piano at the start, the sudden change in tone, and beautiful vocals. The last “pay” is delivered with so much emotion it makes my skin crawl. There’s no doubt that this is the best reprise in the series at least for now. It starts so sweet and innocent and ends to be dark, all in just under a minute. I approve.
Tumblr media
4. Ready as I’ll ever be
Ah, the song that got me into the fandom through the Warrior cats map. The composition of this song is brilliant. The way they basically sing the same song in three places and link them together. The words have a meaning to each character who sings. It’s, to this day, the only song in Tangled the series I consider a ‘Villain song’. It’s not one entirely, but the intense feel it has really makes up for the rest. My love for this song has definitely faded, and it’s not what it used to be anymore. Still, I had no heart to rank it any lower than this. I mean, it’s one hell of a song to a person who hears it for the first time.
Tumblr media
3. Next Stop Anywhere
Man, the top 3 were hard to organize. They’re all incredibly beautiful songs, not just in the story, but overall as well. Next Stop Anywhere is no exception. Even if there’s some talking in between, it compliments the song nicely. I was playing this song in a car while driving my mother somewhere, and even she was jamming into it.
I tend to love story based songs. With this, I mean that the lyrics hold an ongoing story or complication that the characters singing need to overcome. It doesn’t need to be completed in one song, but I love when the lyrics leave you questioning things. How is their story going to end? Where are they coming from? Also I’m weak when it comes to story based duets. During this 3 and half minutes of this song, we’re being introduced to 5 completely different characters and their personalities, yet it doesn’t feel rushed at all. Not only that but the melody, uplifting music and absolutely beautiful vocals by everyone who opens their mouth. I’m sold.
Tumblr media
2. With You by my side
Is anyone actually surprised this masterpiece made it this far? I have one word. The imaginary. It’s absolutely gorgeous. They way they are being separated, but find their way back together. This highlights their friendship in a way it hasn’t been highlighted yet.
Holy heck let’s start with saying the main cast song. Their voices harmonize ridiculously well together. They sound like they were always meant to sing together. They sound like the team their characters are.
The song sounds so happy “let’s do this” type of song, but when you pay some more attention to the words, they hit you with this depressing “we might not all come all out of this, let’s have fun now” stuff. This song is so much more painful after knowing how the episode ends. That being said, it seems odd they put it on here, especially in Cassandra’s part. However, I can’t judge it currently, since we don’t know the whole story.
The reason I preferred this one over Next Stop Anywhere is the obvious, painful lyrics, that turns to be even more painful after watching the episode. It literally breaks my heart everytime I listen to it now. They both have similar aspects, in a way With you by my side sounds like a reprise to Next Stop Anywhere.
Tumblr media
1. View From Up Here
I’m actually very surprised that this made it all the way to the top. I’ve always loved light hearted, happy songs. Not to mention this is a duet between my favorite characters. Their voices are absolutely gorgeous together (remind me a lot of Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash). It just feels so free in a way. Like after listening to it you feel so free yourself. It’s the only one of these songs I haven’t gotten bored of yet (to some extent). I absolutely adore the part where Cassandra joins to the song by basically crying in the background that “this is crazy”. It bring some kind of sense of ’real life’ into it (I mean they’re birds but still). The instrumental is absolutely gorgeous, especially the beginning, and the flute in the background sounds absolutely magical. To be honest, I don’t know if the shorter (actual) version could have competed with With You By My Side, But the Spotify release grabbed the place of my favorite song.
